  • IPod locks after sync

I am at the end of my rope! I have an 80 gig iPod classic synced to my MacBook. When I sync, at the end, the little round thing in the upper left stops turning and it freezes. If I leave it the freeze lasts for 30-45 minutes. When I reset it, it takes 30 minutes to get up and running again.
So far, I have exchanged the iPod 4 times. On each one I restored to factory settings, used disk utility, restored, etc. After the second exchange, I figured it was my MacBook, not the iPod, so trashed iTunes and re-loaded it, and I did an archive and re-install of both Panther and Leopard (once I switched). Eventually, my iPod would no longer update at all, which is why I exchanged it again...and again.
I just synced my newest iPod for the first time and it froze after sync again!!
Does anyone else have this problem? I have a 2nd generation iPod 10 gig and a 4th generation iPod 40 gig (that I gave to the kids as I upgraded) and they both sync fine.
    Suggestions????

seems your iPod 10G and 40G working fine, but not 80G - it makes me feel that it is either a problem of 80G or there are some corrupted files on your iTunes library e.g. movies

  • TS1425 I cannot eject my ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc. It states some of the files are being used by other applications. What does this mean? How can I get it to eject?

I cannot eject my new ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc due, it states, to open files being used by another application. What does this mean? How can I get my ipod to eject?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

  • Zen 32 GB locks after sync with AudibleManager or WMP 11

Have a new Zen 32 GB and after syncing Audible content using either Audbile Manager or WMP , the player locks - screen goes dark, blue light on side stays on. This is repeatable! If I hit the reset button with the paper clip, the blue light turns off, then it can be turned on again but it rebuilds the library, every time. This is very irritating - any suggestions? My computer has WinXP SP3, latest Zen firmware (.2.03)

Thanks for the suggestion but I had already tried that. Still keeps happening whenever I add or delete Audible content.
Maybe someone else that uses Audible will chime in. I have not used that format or software. Sorry I'm not more help

Can someone tell me how to go back to a previous version of the OS/Firmwere.
Sorry I do not know - but I suggest you try the following first
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    Then
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

  • ITunes will wipe my iPod classic after sync

I have an 8th Generation iPod classic 160gb. I have recently had the problem of when I would attempt to sync my iPod, it would sync most of the music, but then would throw error (-50) or error (-69). Upon resyncing my iPod, it would give the same error, but this time it would completely wipe my iPod, and force me to restore it.
I have restored it multiple times, I have reinstalled itunes (11.0.2.26), and still have the problem.
I have also run the diagnostics (hard reset iPod then hold the select button and the << button) and it has given me the following for HDSMARTDATA:
    Retracts: 11
    Reallocs: 13976
    Pending Sectors: 2400
    PowerOn hours: 254
    Start/Stops: 17457
    Temp: Current 35c
    Temp: Min 66c
    Temp: Max 255c
I have also taken my iPod to my local Apple Store, and they were unable to do anything besides restore the iPod, which I have already done on multiple occasions.
Does anyone have further insight into what is going on?

Those 2,400 pending reallocations are a bad sign. Add that to 13,976 sectors that have already been reallocated, and the corrupt thermal data, and I think it is safe to say your classic is toast.

  • Ipod blank after sync

    Hi
I had my 30G ipod on pc now i am on a macbook pro. I went to disk util and erase my ipod. now when i sync with my itunes on my macbook pro, it seem to transfer all my songs to my ipod, but when i go to play back my ipod it is blank. Iam i missing somthig?

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • IPod disconnects after sync

My iPod keeps disconnecting after it syncs. I connect it to my iMac; it syncs; and then the icon on the desk top disappears. It is, however, still in the iTunes menu under devices. The reason this is a problem, is when I connect my iPod to use it with Backup (I use my iPod as a external hard-drive for personnel settings back-ups and such) it first syncs with iTunes and then disappears where as before it would be found by backup and start. I did just recently restore my iPod as a test to another problem I am having. My iPod won't charge on my HiFi. It charges on my computer and on my wall charger but it won't charge on the HiFi. I tested it on other HiFi's and it does the same thing, so it is not the HiFi. Besides, my wifes Nano works fine on the HiFi. Any help you can offer?

That's how it's supposed to work.
When auto sync is finished it dismounts.
If you wan to stay connected, select the iPod in iTunes, then tick Enable Disk use.
You will have to Eject the iPod when you are thru.

  • IPod restarts after sync

I noticed my iPod sometimes restarts after a sync is completed. This doesn't happen all the time and update 1.0.1 doesn't seem to resolve this. Does anyone else have this "problem" or can someone explain why this happens?

Solution? Use firewire. $20 extra is lame (not very much, mind you) but now I don't have to send it in, and the uploads are a tiny bit faster. As I type, I'm 650 of 1300 songs in, without a hickup. Last night, it'd crash after 10. I'll be posting this in a few threads - I apologize if you're reading them all!

  • IPods remounting after sync

    Hello All,
I have 2 5.5 gen 30gig iPods. They both sync fine and are not set to enable disk use.
When they are both plugged in and after having successfully sync'd, they dismount (as expected). A few minutes later, they both remount as external disks.
    Observations:
    - It seems this only happens when they are both plugged in.
    - Doing a manual sync will sync the iPod, then dismount it (only to have it remount a few minutes later)
iTunes is version 7.5.2, OS X 10.4.11, iPod software is 1.2.2 (on both)
It's not a huge deal, it's just inconvenient. Does anybody have any ideas how to change this behavior?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Using your wife's account, have you tried not syncing any photos? For a lot of us, it's the photo syncing that causes a -50 error. This is, apparently, caused by music in the slideshows that get synced.
Currently, until Apple fixes this (again, by the way...it broke some time ago, Apple fixed it with an update...now it's broken again), you have a couple of options (assuming it's photos that are causing this issue):
    1. Don't sync photos to the nano.
    2. Disable music in any of your slideshows via the slideshow setting for each one.
I don't have a nano, but can verify this issue occurs on both my iPhone and IPod Classic.

  • Ipod restores after syncing

I have a beloved Ipod Classic.  I recently installed a new computer, and brought over my itunes files to that computer. When I connected my Ipod to sync the music onto it, it said I needed to restore the Ipod, then the circle of **** began.
Now, when I plug in my ipod, I sync it, and when I click to eject, the ipod gets frozen on the "Okay to Disconnect" screen, then restarts itself after a minute, with no music on it. I then tried to click restore again, the Ipod restores, then Itunes says "Itunes has detected an Ipod in Recovery Mode. You must restore this Ipod before it can be used with Itunes". I restore, and the same thing happens!
Please help! I brought this to apple yesterday, and they barely looked at it and just offered me to fix it for $130!

If the On This iPod tab shows a list of songs, then they are being synced to the iPod.  Not being able to play them there (from that tab in iTunes) is normal, if you use automatic syncing. The list is probably grayed out.
I'm not sure why the songs to not appear when the iPod is being used.
Try this test.  Do a Restore again.  If it asks if you want to sync your library to the iPod during thre Restore process, decline doing so.  Also, show the iTunes sidebar, so that iTunes operates like it did before this version.  From the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  You can change that back later.
Select the iPod in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  On the Summary tab, check the box for Manually manage music and videos, if it is not already.  Apply this change, if needed.
In the sidebar, "drop down" the iPod's content list and select Music there.  To the right, is the list of songs on the iPod, which should be empty at the moment.  NOTE:  This is equivalent to the "On This iPod" tab.
Go to the iTunes Music library in the sidebar.  Using the manual method to load the iPod, drag a small number of songs from the Music library to the iPod.  When you go back to Music under the iPod, you should see those songs on the iPod's Music list.  The list should no longer be grayed out, although you still may not be able to play the songs from there (in iTunes).
Now, try the things that did not work before...  Eject and disconnect the iPod, and see if those songs appear on the iPod and are playable.

  • IPod resets after syncing?

About every second or third time I sync my iPod Classic (120GB), after the white progress bar goes across the screen, the iPod resets itself. Why does it do this? Is this an iTunes problem? I've never seen my old 5G iPod do this before.

No, after you sync an iPod then disconnect, it reverts to the main menu.
