IPod locked and USB not recognised?

Someone please help!! I've been stuck with this problem for the last three days. Basically, what has happened is:
I changed my passcode for my iPod 5 the other day, then had to turn my iPod off as I was in school, I get to my iPod
at lunch and completely forget the passcode I changed it to. So now I'm locked out. This has happened before so
I knew what to do but this time, whenever I plug the USB into my laptop a little message just pops up saying
''USB not recognised''. I've tried absolutely everything to get this USB to work, I've even used different USBs
but barely any of them work or nothing comes up at all, like the laptop doesnt even know it's plugged in.
Is there any way I can restart my iPod without connecting it to iTunes or..? Does anyone know how to sort out
the USB? Sorry if this was a stupid question, I'm not very good at this sort of stuff.
Thanks anyway,
Kate x

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
Also, as necessary:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
Also see:
iPod not recognised by windows iTunes
Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates
- Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem
Further:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.

  • Ipod touch and nano not recognised with itunes

    Hi
    I updated my itunes yesterday.  I have a new shuffle (4th gen I think) but 4th gen nano and 2nd gen touch.  Itunes recognises my shuffle no problem and I was able to sync ok, but it won't recognise the touch or nano, I tried 2 different usb cables but still won't recognise, is it something to do with older gen models not working with the new itunes??? I have a fairly new computer running off new windows package.  Itunes was recognising all my ipods until I installed the new itunes.  Any help gratefully received.
    Thanks.

    It sounds to me like an issue with your iTunes, try un-installing the software and re-installing it and see what happens then. It seems a little odd that it won't recognise 2 iPods, so I highly doubt it is the iPods' fault.
    If it deosn't work after re-installing, take it to the Apple Store (with your computer, if it is portable) and they should be able to help out

  • Ipod mini  and nan2nd not recognised by windows or itunes

    Had ipod mini for two years no problems. My son got a nano 2nd gen in november no problems. latest itunes downloaded and none of the above are recognised. tryed all the quick fixes on the help pages and a few on the discussion page nothing works please help.....

    I'm having the exact same problem, have tried everything listed on this page and the device manager steps. Nothing extra comes up when I click on "show hidden devices" the exact same listings are still there. And there is nothing indicating an ipod mini in the USB section in device manager or "unknown device" or anything.
    The other user said "thank you yes have tried this and message is as follows: windows cannot start this device because its configuration information (in registry) is incomplete or damaged (code19)" - but nothing like that is coming up on mine. None of the R's make anything different. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone give me a hand?

    That could be a clear sign of a damaged hard disk.  Can you try and force the iPod into Disk Mode and then connect it to iTunes so you can attempt a restore or even a low level reformat of the iPod's HD/file system.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
