Ipod locked up today during sw upgrade. shows logo
ipod locked up today during sw upgrade. shows logo and empty status bar. pc doesn't recognize device is plugged in. won't turn off.
I would try in order:
- Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring it via iTunes on your computer. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
- Place the iPod in DFU mode and then restore via iTunes.

After 1.1.1 update: iPod locks the phone during music playback
My iPhone gets locked during music playback. It worked fine during the the first few hours after the upgrade but now it stalls or locks up completely. Anyone else experiencing the same?
First, for safety, do a quick diagnostic of the iPod.
You can do this by starting a sync as usual with iTunes, then enabling Disk Use. Now, go to Utilities/Disk Utility on your desktop, and perform a diagnostic - it should take only a few seconds. Now, go back onto iTunes and Disable Disk Use (so you can take your cable out).
As long as you have the iTunes desktop up, click Check for Updates, and then Update. (They update thee software every month.) -
ITunes / iPod locking up when during music and file transfers!
I'm having this problem with all 3 iPods in my household, but all on the same machine (20" iMac G5).
Quite often, when hooking up my iPod to transfer songs, or graphics files the whole thing just locks up. My "do not disconnect" screen freezes, and in iTunes I just get the spinning ball FOREVER. iTunes WILL NOT force quit, nor will it eject my iPod. Most of the time I have to force my computer to shut down because it will not do anything else.
I have no idea if it is my machine, or the iPods, or iTunes. I've checked and repaired permissions, and I've also run Tech Tool Pro. Nothing seems to resolve this issue.
Please... can anyone help?I have a smiliar problem. Sometimes my iPod just gets "stuck" on the upload of certain songs (always different songs). It will just stay uploading the same song forever! so I have to unplug my iPod (even though it says "do not disconnect") and force quit iTunes. A few times I have had to force a shut down of my computer and twice when I did that all of my Favorite on FireFox dissapeared, my desktop was the default blue, my tool bar was defalut and my iTunes library was missing! I got all the songs back, but had to spend HOURS re-doing all of the playlists and then re-uploading everthiing to my iPod.
I avoided this the latest time by only uploading one playlist at a time, but it was very time consuming and still got "stuck" twice!
Any suggestions?? I have the extended protection plan on my computer and ipod... -
Audio Books Not Resuming / Ipod locks if exit Music after 2.2.1 Upgrade
Hello,
I have a 1G 16GB Ipod Touch, and have been running 1.1.4 for the past year until about a week ago when I took the plunge and upgraded to 2.2.1. I thought all went well, but have been experiencing multiple problems as my use of the Ipod expands.
I subscribe to Audible and listen to long audio books on my drive to work. In 1.1.4 I was able to pause the books, go off and do other things, and come back to resume where I left off. This feature no longer works correctly for me after the 2.2.1 upgrade.
After pausing an audio book, I am able to resume playback where I left off if I stay within the Music application (even playing other songs or books). However, if I exit the Music application back to the Main Menu, the Ipod locks for about 30 seconds before I can start another app, lock, or go back into music. If music is playing when I go back to the Main Menu, it will continue during this time the Ipod is locked and then stop. If no music is playing, the Ipod still locks, so it doesn't matter if music is playing or not.
After the Ipod becomes responsive again, I can go back into Music, but I find that all my audio books have reverted back to the bookmarks that existed a week ago when I did the upgrade. For example, I was on Chapter 6 of a book when I did the upgrade, listened up to Chapter 10 and paused. I exited the Music, came back in, and it reverted to the exact second in Chapter 6 where the bookmark was placed before the upgrade. I have tried multiple experiments with this, and it's always the same result. I upgraded to 2.2.1 to use Apps, so it stinks that I can't leave Music...ever.
Is there anything that I can do to fix this issue or am I going to be forced to downgrade back to 1.1.4?
Thank you very much!Well, I managed to fix the problem thru sheer brute force so I figured I would at least pass along what I did in case someone else has this issue. Evidently, doing an in-place upgrade does not work so as a last resort I used "Restore", cleared the Ipod, reloaded everything back on and the playback positions are now working again in music and video. Something screwy must have happened during the upgrade and just needed to start over. Still trying to reload everything (they REALLY need a mass backup feature for photos/music/videos) but looks like it will work.

Hello. Today, I was updating my iPod Touch 4th Generation to iOS 6. I unplugged the iPod when it was during the installation because it appeared to be frozen. Now the iPod is stuck at a light blue screen even after I reset it. How do I fix it?
You will need to do a DFU restore by holding the home and power buttons down (while the device is plugged in to your computer) until the device's screen goes black and as soon as the screen goes black, count down from 3 and release the power/sleep button, but keep holding down the home button. Then, iTunes will say the iPod needs to be restored. The restore process will take some time and even though the iPod may appear to be frozen, don't interrupt the restore.

Will iPod be backed up during upgrade?
Hello all,
I am in the middle of a move. The desktop that has all my media on it is on a boat somewhere in the Pacific and not scheduled to arrive until next month. I have my iPod hooked up to my laptop for the time being (syncing calandar and to charge).
What I want to know is if my songs, pictures, etc., will be backed up during the upgrade or is it going to wipe all of those off since I'm not on the computer that stores the media. (My laptop has no songs, pics, anything) Nearly all of my mp3's are from ripped CDs...
Thank you,
Ethan CaineHi Ethan Caine-
Yes I am. I really am not sure exactly where all of the information is being stored. In your case I might be tempted to make sure that you have manually transferred anything that you want to keep to the laptop from which you will be doing the upgrade.
It did inform me that a movie that I rented will not be backed up, but that particular movie had expired anyway.
It is still backing up.

iPad locks up when doing iOS upgrade. Screen shows iTunes icon and connector. System will not power up or restart. Any ideas?
FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY. -
I attempted to upgrade my Ipad 2 from ios 7.2 to 7.4.
During the upgrade, the Itunes on my PC was prematurely terminated by a failed IE application.
the end result is that my Ipad is now stuck at the Apple screen, cannot be switched off, will not be recognised by the Itunes application running on the PC and is generally a brick.
Any suggestions? Please.FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Hold Sleep/Wake button down and slide to turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug.
5. Release Home button.

Lately when I've reached a certain point in my run (around 3 miles) and push the center button to hear feedback on my pace/time etc. the iPod locks up. The lock icon appears and i cannot do anything. THe only way to end the workout is to disconnect the sensor. Any idea why this may be happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Have you been through these?

What exactly do you mean by "locking up"? -
3rd Gen Lock Ups / Freezes during everyday use
My 3rd Gen Click Wheel iPod has developed a freeze issue, where I'll be playing a song and suddenly the ipod locks up and none of the controls respond.
To try and fix this I've restored the ipod, zero formatted the drive (disk utility says all is fine) and then put 2gb of music on it to test.
I still get the same issue arising pretty much every time I use it now. Luckily, more often and not the click wheel doesn't respond, but the buttons at least do and I can re-boot the ipod to get it to respond. When I get totally locked out, I have to wait until it goes into sleep of drains the battery.
Battery life is still good as this is a late 3rd gen model. What gives? This happens to songs encoded by the latest version of itunes as well as older versions. The software is up to date to correct 'bug fixes', but is there a way of forcing the ipod to upgrade its software in case the ipod software has become trashed?
Any help/suggestions please.Well no answers but looks like it could possibly be a disk fragmentation issue. Diskwarrior showed 77% fragmentation of the iPod. Once I set it to work, the iPod changes tracks much more quickly.
Hopefully that's sorted it... -

VadiHi Suhas,
Have checked the hostname and it is correct.
I am getting the below output When i run r3trans -x
This is r3trans version 6.14 (release 700 - 04.03.08 - 16:43:00).
r3trans finished (0000).
I could see the below error message in dev_W21
ExecuteAndFlush return code: 0x80040e14 Stmt: [if user_name() != 'sid_shd' setuser 'sid_shd']
C sloledb.cpp [ExecuteAndFlush, line 6470]: Error/Message: (err 15157, sev 0), Setuser failed because of one of the following reasons: the database principal 'cdu_shd' does not exist, its corresponding server principal does not have server access, this type of database principal cannot be impersonated, or you do not have permission.

My ipod is no longer keeping my tv shows in order, or returning to where i left off when watching an episode.
I have deleted them and re-added from my computer. On my computer, when plugged into Itunes,
they show as in order by air date--on my ipod, they are random. Also, my shows are not
restarting where I last left off--they are going back to the beginning, so I have to fast forward!
Very frustrating! Anyone have a problem like this? You have to enter the Apple ID and password. You are running into the Activation Lock
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
Is there a way to find my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?
Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?
If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to My Apple ID and follow the instructions. SeeChanging your Apple ID password if you'd like more information. -

Best practice to secure database during patching/upgrade-Vault disabled
I have a highly confidential system and to protect the data in the DB, I intend to use Oracle Vault. In my company, we have centralized services and therefore, the oracle Unix owner and sysdba are owned by this group, not the application dba that "knows" the system (me).
The problem I have is what would be the best way to protect my data from the sysdba user during the window that Vault is disabled?
I thougth maybe I could un-mount and file protect the tablespace from the Unix oracle user during the upgrade process, but the tablespace could be outdated when I remount it after the patch. I am not sure how I might patch it seperatley. I am thinking I might export and drop the schema during the patching, then load it back in when vault is enabled again. This will work for a year or so, but I envision the databases getting too large to do this efficiently.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how I might protect the data in this scenario?
Edited by: user4714217 on Oct 20, 2008 11:06 AM for clarityHi,
I did not understood your question properly, but the thing which I understood is like you do not want any other user to access the database when your security vault is disabled.
At that time you can
1) Start the database in restrict mode (only a sysdba can do it).
2) Change the password/lock the user till the time your patching activity is going (any user with dba role can do it, so might be not so useful)

I am getting a dialog bx saying "Not enough storage: this Ipad cannot be backed up....manage storage in settings" When I click settings nothing happens. The Ipad seems to be locked. How can I upgrade storage to unfreeze my I pad?
Hi karlos16,
For the error message you are seeing, I found this article:
iCloud: Troubleshooting creating backups
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3992
"This iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available."
This message is displayed when there is not enough storage space available in your iCloud Storage to complete your backup. You can either reduce the amount of data you are backing up under Backup Options, or you can buy more storage.
For the issue with the iPhone appearing to be unresponsive, I recommend this article for troubleshooting:
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch: Not responding or does not turn on

Cheers!
