IPod locks up iTunes before syncing

Posted this in the wrong topic before...here it is in the correct place.
When I plug my iPod into my computer, iTunes locks up for about five minutes, then starts to sync. I have done a soft reset, and I checked the disk in disk utility, no problems. My iPod software and iTunes are both up to date. I guess I could try restoring, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice before I do that (since it takes a while). Thanks!

You need to copy the iTunes liubrary from your Old computer, or its Backup, to your New computer...
    See Here for one way
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    Or...
From your Old Computer... Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
Backup iTunes to an External Drive

An Added Bonus is that you will then have a Backup of iTunes...

  • IPod touch (iOS8/ iTunes 12) sync issue...

We just recently updated our iPod Touch to iOS8 and our iTunes to 12.  But now our iPod touch will not fully sync.  It gets stuck in "step 6 of 6" in status bar. It creates this other category that fills iPod.  Then to top it off it is for some reason duplicating all the playlists we have selected to sync to ipod.  HOw can I stop this and fix problem so I can enjoy our iPod touch without over flowing everything???

  • IPod Touch 2g iTunes 10 Syncing problem

After many hours of pure frustration, I'm finally giving up and putting this issue out there for some help.
    Here are some simple things:
I own an iPod Touch Second Generation model.
It has been synced with my HP Desktop for some time now.
Recently I bought an HP Envy (Laptop) for school.
My Desktop is going to be used less frequently, so I decided to sync my iPod to the laptop.
I've moved over all the music through a hard drive.
I've transfered my purchases through iTunes.
Here is where the problem lies:
Yesterday I decided was the day I would finally sync my iPod to my laptop. This is after just downloading Podcasts through the iPod and charging it through an AC adapter for several months. I plug it into my USB port using the stock cable. Windows 7 recognizes it as "iPod Touch", it even has a little graphic of it for My Computer. It installs the drivers and iTunes pops up. Things are going swell right? Wrong.
iTunes does indeed surface, and I sync it to the new (same) library of music and apps. I unplug it, and plug it back in just to make sure. When I plug it in a second time, it comes up and begins backing up my device. Here is where things get sketchy, due to the many (-50) errors when trying to back it up. Finally it succeeds, and I'm irritated. So I go ahead and restore the iPod. It restores. I get 4.1 or w/e for the iPod and things look dandy. My music is there, the apps. I decide to plug it in ONE more time for good measure. This time and every single time up to this point, it shows the iPod, but then brings up the screen saying: "New iPod". In the top it says Verifying iPod Touch, and it usually finished but my ipod's screen just quits syncing and goes to the home screen. Both you and I know this isn't a NEW iPod to the computer. I can't seem to get it to sync because it constantly thinks its a new ipod. Although it says a previous ipod was synced earlier, would i like to restore this one with that info. I would rather not. I'm tired of this. Please help me if you can. Thanks Oh and now My Computer doesn't show the iPod at all. in the device manager it shoes an Apple USB device, and the Drivers are fine.

    Hey im567,
Make sure the iPod touch and iTunes are both updated.

Also make sure your iPod is directly connected to a high-speed USB port on the PC, not a hub, monitor, or keyboard.

  • Ipod Classic 80 & iTunes 9 syncing of contact and calendars no longer

Itunes 9 doesn't seem to allow my 80 gg ipod classic to sync contacts and calendars. It says I don't have and and would I like to open iCal/Address Book to create some. I did get one notice that itunes no longer syncs contacts on my ipod... it appeared so fast that I didn't get all of what it stated. Had something about would I like my contacts to be cleared from my ipod. Fortunately they are still on my iPod. Can't believe something as simple as syncing a little contact or calendar file to my somewhat recent ipod no longer is a feature. What up with that. Am I missing something

Having the same problem, and I found a temporary fix. In iCal select the calendar you want on the iPod (you may have to do this multiple times if you want multiple calendars on there) and go to File>Export... name the file as "iSync-whatever your calendar name is" (not sure if the iSync prefix is necessary, but that's what the synced calendars on the iPod look like).
For this next part you need to enable disk usage (a pain, I know, but hopefully this will only be temporary). Go to your iPod>Calendars and drag the .ics file you just exported in there. Then you can turn disk usage off (if you don't plan on doing this several times, if so then better just leave it on till a patch comes out) and eject it.
Hope this helps. I really hope they remedy this soon.

  • IPod lock in iTunes

    Hello,
I've bought me an iPod nano but I'm having the problem that I can not upload any songs to it. The only songs I can put on it are songs that iTunes has choosen. When I go to my iPod in iTunes, I see this lock next to how much disk space I have left.
Can anyone help me with this?

    Your facing 2 different issues.
    1) All newly bought ipods are set to "Auto Update ALL". When your library is bigger than your ipod tho iTUnes changes this to "Auto Update select" and creates its own playlist that will fit on the ipod. What you have to do is goto edit>preferences>ipod and UNCHECK that playlist and select the one you want on it OR set the ipod to "Manual update"
    2) When the ipod is set to one of the "Auto Update" settings it "Locks Off" the ipod from windows and you see a lock on it in iTUnes. If you set it to "Manual update" this lock is no longer and you have full access to your songs on the ipod in iTUnes
Since your new to all this you need to goto the "iPod 101" lessons to learn all the ropes of your new ipod and itunes here http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/

  • Ipod Locks Up. Itunes won't Recognize, and Can't Disconnect!

I have a U2 special edition 20 GB Ipod. This is #2 as the same thing happened with #1.
I plug it into my computer to update from itunes. I get the "Do Not Disconnect" message, tho itunes fails to recognize it. It appears to be locked up. I can hear it cycling through. It starts up, I hear a click, it shuts down. Over and over. I can't eject, because itunes doesnt recognize it is even plugged in, and I am afraid to unplug it. I tried to reset. It didn't work. This very same thing happened with my last ipod, i rebooted the computer, and it totally fried the ipod. I was left with the folder/exclamation point icon and had to send it in for a new one.
I am going camping this weekend and really wanted my tunes. Can anybody help?

I give up. I downloaded the new version onto my laptop, it had some sample files already preloaded, so I tried to update my ipod with those. What do you know? It worked GREAT! So, I upgraded the itunes on my home puter to the latest version and tried again. It recognized my pod and immediately began to update. So, I left to do some things, and when I came back, my computer had rebooted and once again my ipod had playlists but not a single song loaded. With the luck on my laptop, however, I thought I would upload an album to that itunes and try it that way. Now the laptop itunes also refuses to recognize my ipod. I wish I could find it entertaining that the sample files preloaded with itunes work but absolutely nothing else will. I also realized I didn't have the latest update (9-23)so I downloaded that too. It locks up my computer. Freaking Marvelous! 5 hours pretrip down the drain, nothing to show for it, and one long-assed drive without tunes. THANKS APPLE! You have done a superb job of convincing me I no longer have any need for your products.

  • Updating itunes before syncing new touch:  do I need to install safari?

...and mobile me as suggested by apple? or can I just install itunes/quicktime?Thank you in advance for your help. I have only ever had one ipod (the original nano) and have finally moved up to a touch! (Can I keep both and continue to update both on this one laptop?)

On a Windows system, just installing iTunes and QuickTime is fine. (Safari is only required for Store access on Mac systems.)
I have only ever had one ipod (the original nano) and have finally moved up to a touch! (Can I keep both and continue to update both on this one laptop?)
Yes you can. There's no limit on the number of devices you can connect to your existing iTunes library. (I'm only really using my Classic nowadays, but I've had up to three different ipods running off a single library before.)
If you want to put different content onto each different device, the following document might be of some assistance:

  • Synching iPod Locks Up iTunes

I'm using iTunes 9.11, and whenever I connect my ipod, iTunes appears to start to synch (the iPod shows up in iTunes and says synching iPod, do not connect). Then almost immediately, iTunes gives me the spinning beach ball.
I reset my iPod, and it still does this. The only way out is to force quit out of iTunes.
I'm not sure this is relevant, but I recently changed my Apple ID to reflect a new email address. I'm not sure if that helps, but that's something that is "different" from before.
    Thanks for all input.

    Hello eightfifteen,
Try reformatting the iPod using *Disk Utility* and then restore via iTunes. Here are instructions if need be.

Or if possible, try restoring the iPod on another system to see if that does any good.

  • Change reader app and choose reader app from iTunes before sync

Anyone knows how to change reader app for a pdf file?
It seems if I've chosen one app to open a pdf then my file's stuck there for good
Also is there any way to choose which app to open a book in my iTunes to be sync'ed to my iPad?
What happens right now is if I add a file to my iTunes andsync to my iPad then it goes immediately to iBooks, while it can only be readwith other DMR-supported app
    Thanks a ton in advance!

It's not possible to delete it. It CAN be disabled via restrictions, as can installing apps.
    Go to Settings>General>Restrictions.

  • IPhone links then disconnects from iTunes before syncing is complete.

From the previous discussions I used the USB directly on my MAC instead of using a Hub.  Problem solved!  On another hub I couldn't charge my iPod.  Once directly plugged into the computer, problem solved!  Moral of the story, don't trust hubs!

Correct the time and date on the computer.

  • How do you sync your ipod to your itunes without loseing all your music?

Some how my itunes deleted all music (everything except my purchased music and I dont have my other music anywhere else only on my ipod.). Today I tryed to add a new Cd but i cant do that untill i get all my music from my ipod back into itunes by syncing it without losing everything. how do I do that i need to know ASAP

You need to put your ipod in manually manage mode. When you plug in your ipod the box that pops up is gonna state your ipod has been synced with another library do you want to erase and sync or transfer purchases or cancel. Hit cancel. Under devices in theleft hand side of itunes click the name of your ipod. That brings up a summary page, then select under options on that summary page manually manage ipod then click apply. You can then add content by dragging and dropping from itunes library to the name of your device. this allows syncing with multiple computers withuot losing content.

  • How can I see Ipod download on iTunes.  (It syncs but I do not see the synced data)

How can I see IPOD download on iTunes after syncing.  The data syncs but is not visible on computer screen

For example, when I sync the contents of my address book to the computer using itunes, shouldn't I be able to see what content was transferred to itunes?  When my calendar is synced shouldn't I be able to see on iTunes the events that I added to my IPOD?
