IPod/Lost Music Problem

My computer (running windows) recently got a virus, i was forced into formatting the computer. I had all of my music on my iPod (with color display), so i figured i would find a program to get my music back onto my harddrive. However once i connected the iPod to the computer after formatting, it did not recognize the iPod. i gave it about a half an hour, but nothing happened. The Do not disconnect icon appeared, but nothing happened. I gave it another 30 minutes or so, but then i finally disconnected it, figuring that there wasnt much i could do. The Do Not disconnect icon stayed, however, and is still on the screen. I've tried resetting it, by holding down Select and Play (Connected and Disconnected with a Power Supply, with no progress. What can i do, its the only backup of my music library. Please, i really really need this music library back, is there anything i can do?

First, a reset is a hard thing to do. It's NOT easy. The suggestion about laying it flat in this knowledgebase article might help.
Second, whenever you see 'Do Not Disconnect' it means your iPod is communicating with your computer. Do not assume it's not because it's not showing up in iTunes.
Ipod does not appear in iTunes may offer some help.

lost itunes on computer. put disk back in to reload when i pluged in ipod all music was gone on both ipod and itunes. but the free space on the bottom of the page was still the same. i used to have 650songs on ipod. now i put 350songs back on but ipod says its full no more room for songs.what to do how do i find my old songs and get them to go back to ipod???? please help anyone

Chris, to get back the space on your iPod, you will have to restore it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
The reason you both lost your music is probably because you have the iPod set to auto-update. When you plugged into a new computer with an empty library it automatically updated your iPod library to the new (empty) one. The only way to get the music back is to update it on the original computer again.
If you want to plug into other computers, go to the iPod prefs in iTunes and select MANUAL UPDATE. Now when you plug your iPod into a computer you have to manually drag-and-drop songs onto your iPod library or hit delete to delete songs.

  • Ipod touch music problem

i went to go add this one song onto both of my ipods, one being the ipod touch 5.0.1 i guess, and the third gen ipod nano. When i added the song to both of them my nano has all the songs including the new one into it while my ipod touch music has been erased all for one song. How do i get back the songs from my itouch, can i restore it? Now when it tells me when i click on the music library on the itouch from itunes it shows me all the music i once had but when i go on my itouch it only has 1 song.
further information, i have my nano then i got my itouch.

in purchesed go to music and this is a hard task but click on the cloud on the songs you want and they will download

  • HT201272 Lost iPod, lost music. On my old computer I had almost 16 gigs of music on iTunes some of which was purchased and most of which was put on there from my CD collection or from CDs borrowed from friends.

On my old computer I had almost 16 gigs of music in iTunes, some of which was purchased and most of which was put on there from my CD collection and from CDs borrowed from friends. When I got a new computer, only about half of that music, including all music purchased, wound up in iTunes. I didn't worry about this as all 16 gigs were still on my iPod. Then I lost my iPod and about 8 gigs of music.Because it was there in iTunes on my old computer, I assume it still exists somewhere. I would like to retrieve it somehow. Can anyone help me do that?

Unless you had subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded that music to it then no, it won't be stored anywhere. You haven't got it on a backup e.g. an external drive ?

  • Three libraries, three iPods, lost music, empty playlists

My wife, daughter, and I have three iPods and three libraries (we use the option key when starting up iTunes). We store all the music files on an external HD. Today, while cleaning up a bunch of duplicate files/folders from a system reinstall, I deleted all the music files Ouch! Not to worry, I have the iPods and Senuti. If I simply reimport the music, I get ! signs on every track, and empty playlists. With Senuti, I can drag playlists one at a time and they seem to repopulate the existing playlists nicely. But at over 150 playlists per iPod, it's a lengthy process. Can't select more than one playlist at a time in either Senuti or iTunes, and haven't been able to find a helpful Doug's script. Is there a way to speed up this process? After being unable to reassociate the songs in the library with the playlists, I simply deleted my whole library, and am now redragging one playlist at a time. I will do the same with my wife's iPod and then my daughter's, being careful not to sync and overwrite them. My daughter's nano is set to auto-update so I will have to move her library to a different location, I think, so it won't auto-update and delete all her music. Help!

I haven't used it for awhile but can't you simply
download the playlist without downloading the music?
I wish, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Senuti will let you download the music IN the playlist, but not just the playlist info. Same, AFAICT, with iPodRip.
What I may do is the following:
    1. Delete everything (scary).
    2. Restore from my iPod first (I'm Dad, mine is biggest!).
    3. Duplicate the resulting Library and playlists to a new library for my wife, and rename it.
    4. Delete a few playlists she doesn't want and restore the playlists that (she wants but I don't want) from her iPod using Senuti.
    5. Repeat for my daughter. She has a nano and not much music, so this will be much faster. Her tastes run to standard pop fare, no classical.
I think, when all is said and done, I will have one Music folder with all the actual MP3s, AACs, and the occasionall AIFF in it, and three libraries corresponding to the three iPods with Library subsets of the total Music folder.
    Does that sound about right?

  • IPod "No Music" Problem....  Any Advice Please?

My iPod nano (5th Gen) shows "No Music" even after successful sync.  I have tried factory reset.  Any suggestions please?

This has happened to me with a few downloads without any upsets.
    You should be OK.
As I recall the download is around 1.2 gig so it takes a bit of time and effort to get it to your system.

Hi I Have an Ipod classic. My problem is that the Ipod seems to sync music ok but I have a number of podcasts downloaded to itunes but these don't sync to the ipod,(they have in the past, but no longer). Has anyone any suggestions please ?

    hi gary
have you tried to sync your ipod ,when you click on the side where it shows your ipod?
Click on where it shows your ipod name for example garys ipod, when it opens up the summary page click the sync box, bottom right, and see if that helps.
In the summary page click on podcasts, click the box on sync podcast box (top),read before when the box opens and says are you sure you want sync podcasts.,theres a box underneath, which says automatically include ,make sure thats ticked.
    hope this may help madforit

  • Got new iPod, deleted iTunes, lost music

My friend recently got a new iPod (and turned the old one in for a discount). My friend's new iPod would not sync with old iTunes, so she tried to upgrade it. For some reason it wouldn't. In frustration, she deleted iTunes from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Now she realizes that iTunes is gone and her iPod is empty. Is all of her music gone forever? Or 1) is there a remaining library of music or 2) does the iTunes store allow you to download your purchased music again? Thank you for any assistance!

Hi, the music files should still be on the PC. Here is an article on finding lost music.

Hi - I need help. I would like to use my old iPhone 3 as an iPod for music only. Problem is that my phone is locked with a password I can't remember. I havent used the phone since I got my iPhone 4. Anyone who know how I can reset the phone to standard installation or just get acces to the phone. There is no SIM card in the phone.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´   Those were good days..... What a City

  • Problem with the Ipod Touch Music Player

Hi, I recently got an iPod touch 3g (8 gig) around christmas, and its been a truly great buy and worked flawlessly. However just recently I started having issues with the iPod's music player.
Ever since last night, I noticed that when I use the music player, and try to move 'FORWARD' a song (IE the double forward arrow button) the arrow would stay white like I was pressing it, NOT move forward a song, the screen would be unresponsive as the current song played, and then after 2-3 seconds the music player would crash and go back to the home screen.
I know it was a crash because when I went back to the music player, it was reset back to the 'Shuffle' option with the list of songs below it (usually, it leaves off on the last song you were listening to.)
I also noticed, that even if I just listened to a song completely without hitting forward, it would STILL freeze up and crash to home screen once the song was finished, even if I DIDN'T press anything.
But apparently the double back arrow (rewind/back) works without crashing it.
So my question is: what can I do to fix this? I already tried restarting my iPod (by holding the top and home buttons for 10 seconds) and it did not solve this. I always keep my iPod charged up, and I can't think of ANYTHING I did yesterday or recently at all to cause this problem....I generally only use the iPod touch for music or internet browsing.
    any help appreciated..

  • Apple TV 2g music problems, streaming from iPod.

I can stream iTunes music from my iMac to my Apple TV 2g, but whenever I try to stream music directly from my iPod Touch 4g library or my iPad, nothing happens, however movies will stream just fine. I have the AirPlay/Apple TV tab on both iPod & iPad music screen so it seems they detect the Apple TV, but the Apple TV doesn't detect them. I never had this problem when I first purchased the device.

I have been having the exact same problem.
It started after I let Apple TV upgrade to a newer version of the software. After that I could stream video and play music, TV shows and movies from iTunes library on my PC but I cannot get my iPad2 or my iPod Touch 4 to play thru Apple TV anymore.
I hope someone can reply with a solution.

  • Lost music on ipod

I recently had a pop up window asking me me i like to update my ipod with the lastest and greatest , so i did . Consequently i have lost all of my music except for the last song i added . All of the music appears to be on in the library. My question is why did i loose it and also the second question is how do i reinstall the music on my IPOD . Thanks <

I'm not sure about looking up a name list, but if you don't use your iPod, there might be stuff out there that can recover the music:

This PodSalvage software will only work with Macs running OS X. See the PodSalvage page at SubRosaSoft.com: http://www.subrosasoft.com/MacSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=2
