Ipod/Macbook Connection Problem

Hello Everyone! I recently purchased a 120 GB Ipod Classic off of Craigslist and I think I've been duped. When I returned home, I plugged the Ipod in and connected it to Itunes and reset the unit. I then proceeded to transfer my media (I left this overnight as I have close to 20,000 songs). I checked on it about an hour later and everything seem to be tranferring fine. I woke up this morning, my ipod still plugged into my computer but it wasn't recognized in Itunes. I unplugged it and none of my media transferred. I then tried to connect it to my computer and.... the Ipod shows the screen that it's connecting to my computer do not disconnect, then it flashes and resets. It repeats this loop over and over if I leave it connected.
I've disconnected it, held the middle select button down to reset it but still nothing. Any help is much appreciated.

Hey anamorphose13,
If your iPod displays the "Do not disconnect" screen indefinitely, I'd follow these troubleshooting steps:
Put iPod into Disk Mode.
iPod should appear in the iTunes Source pane and on the desktop or in a Finder window, or in the My Computer window.
If a message appears that says the volume could not be mounted and asks if you want to initialize the disk, choose to initialize iPod's disk. Use Mac OS Extended format (HFS Plus) if you have a Mac, or FAT32 if you have a Windows PC.
Warning: This process cannot be undone. All of your songs, videos, and other files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
Follow the steps to update or restore iPod. If you manually put iPod into Disk Mode it may need to be resetbefore you can use it.
If you cannot put iPod into Disk Mode after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Website.

  • Trying to update iPod software; Connection problems.

Okay, so I have the iPod Touch 4th Gen, and when I plugged it into my computer, iTunes said that there was a iPod software update available. I've tried several times to download the update, but every time I try the same thing happens: It only downloads a few hundred KB of it, then it stops there, and the remaining time displayed keeps going up until it shows up to 24 hours or more, and finally, an error message comes up saying it couldn't complete the request because of connection problems. (error = -3259)
On a similar note, when downloading songs from iTunes, I constantly have to pause and resume them in order for them to fully download. Otherwise it just stops where it is.
However, I can still connect to the store just fine, with only a very few timeouts here and there, but those are easily remedied by re-visiting the page I tried to view.
So, clearly I have some sort of issue with my connection to iTunes. Can someone please help me?

care to share what the other way to download it is??
My boss has an ipad, last week he downloaded the 2 entire seasons of 24, and a season of Rescue Me with no problems at all, now he's trying to download a movie and he keeps getting this error. If those shows downloaded just fine why won't the movie download? Our Windows firewalls are disabled by Group Policy so that's not the problem... and our security software hasn't changed since last week when he successfully downloaded those shows so that shouldn't be the issue either. We don't use proxys. He's wired to the internet so it's not a wireless timing out on him issue. He's on the latest version of itunes. He's logged out of itunes store, shut down itunes, and relogged in... same problem.

  • IPod touch connection problem!

My iPod touch no longer appears in iTunes when it is connected to the computer. I have tried to fix this problem in as many ways as I know but none of them have worked. So far, I've tried: Restarting my iPod, Downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes, using a different usb cable, using different usb ports, restarting my computer and stopping & starting the apple mobile device service. My iPod still charges when connected to my wall charger and the computer which I use (windows xp) still connects to my brothers iPod touch. I don't what the problem could be?! My iPod is 1 & 1/2 years old, but still works perfectly fine apart from this issue. Can anyone help?

  • BMW 335i ipod interface connection problem with ipod classic 80GB

Hi all, i have a 2007 BMW 335i with dealer installed ipod interface, and i been using it since, it's simply i just connect ipod with the cable in the glove compartment and leave it there, and it charges and stanby, when i start up the car the audio jumps right to where i left off on the ipod and it also let me control it with iDrive. after about one and half year of usage, i think there is something wrong with my ipod or i dont know for sure, well here is the problem, when i start the car it will play music from the ipod and i can control it from iDrive and everything but after about 5-10 mins, the music stop, and my iDrive shows weird playlist, and i need to unplug the ipod and replug again to have it connect and then it will stop by itself, after 5-10 mins, any of you guys have a bmw with the ipod interface have this problem?? i dont really know if it's my ipod problem or my bmw ipod interface problem. anyone can help me with this? thank you!

That is most likely going to be a problem with your iPod, not the interface.
Have you tried Resetting the iPod? (hold down the menu and center buttons for six seconds).
If that fails to work, try Restoring the iPod in iTunes.

I have a problem on my macbook running OS X 10.4.8
My airport connects to the router but does not receive a valid Ip address. I can even access admin screen from the macbook, but I cannot get on to the internet.
    I am running a WRT54GS v6.0 router
I have turned on MAC address filter on my router on purpose. I have my macbook's MAC address stored as an "Allowed client" on my router
also, I have ristricted the maximum number of DHCP leases to 4 clients [ i have 2 pc's and a macbook]
I am using wpa personal security setting. I tried both TKIP and AES modes. neither worked [currently using TKIP]
Although the Airport shows that It is connected to "myNetwork", it does not have an IP address assigned
    please help me

    the macbook used to
I changed some settings [which I forget now] in order to join the windows workgroup. It did not work.
I did a clean reinstall of Mac OS X today
I did not import anything from the previous install. So all network properties must have been deleted.
So i was expecting that starting all new would work. but it hasn't yet.

  • MacBook connectivity problem

I just purchased a new MacBook today. I was going through the initial set up while NOT a home where my Airport Express net work is. While setting up the machine asked how I connect to the internet, (wireless, dsl, cable, etc.) or "This computer does not connect to the internet". I had no choice in order to continue the set up than to check "This computer does not connect to the internet".
When I got home I tried to connect assuming the computer would see the Airport Express and connect, but no luck. The MacBook does say it is connected, but I cannot open a page in Safari. I have an iMac currently connected with no problems.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Have you gone through the Airport Utility? That'd be where I'd start first, otherwise you should be able to manually join your @ home WiFi network via the Airport icon (select "Join Other Network.") Also make sure there isn't any sort of filtering (MAC Address or Static IP) that may prevent a good authentication to your access point.

  • Applie iPod Classic Connection Problems

Hi there, me and my dad just bought 2 new iPod classics... Mines is working without any problems so far (although trying to figure out how to convert videos is ******* me off) but anyway his was working this morning before I left for work and I left it to update and download the newest artwork... Upon arriving home however his is unable to open up in iTunes and Windows Vista simply keeps trying to install drivers for the iPod everytime I connect it and ultimately fails everytime... Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated

    Hey there Joeyleo,
It sounds like you are unable to use any USB accessories with your iPod Classic. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article:
    iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Here is step one to get you started, but there is additional troubleshooting within if needed:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPod FireWire connectivity problems

the firewire provided with my ipod has now made my ipod unusable, except when it is connected to the computer/wall charger by firewire...
previously i have used my USB to update it and my firewire to charge it through the wall adapter... however, i lost my USB, and used my firewire to update it aswell as charge it...
after a few updates with the firewire (2 or 3) it will not turn on unless connected to the firewire in the computer or wall adapter... it will not reset or respond in any way if it is not... this is my 3rd ipod... if anyone has any suggestions... please help... i am DESPERATE!!!!!
    thanks

Having the same problem with my 3G 20GB iPod. I have an Adaptec 4300 firewire card and multiple onboard 2.0 USB ports. My computer or iTunes no longer even recognizes my iPod when I use my firewire card. It used to connect for a few minutes one out every few tries, but now nothing...It will just charge as if I was connecting it to my A/C adapter.
It will be recognizes most of the time when trying my USB but I can never get a secure connection. It will just beep real quick and then disconnect again right after.
I've tried just about every possible fix listed in these forums to no avail. I will most likely be purchasing a new mp3 player if I can't find a fix soon. It's been a major pain ever since I purchased it.
I'm currently looking at the Cowon iAudio X5 and the Toshiba Gigabeat X, F, or S series. All but the S series Gigabeat support Rockbox firmware ports making it far superior to anything iPod or iTunes has put out there.

  • Black Macbook connection problem

    Hello
We have 4 Apple computers in our household. We're connecting to the internet using an airport express. Three out of four computers (G4 Titanium Powerbook, late 2008 MacBook Pro, late 2008 Alu Macbook) can connect to this AE very quickly and the speed is fine. One computer (black Macbook 2.16 Core2Duo) has problems. When starting up or waking up from sleep it takes about a minute to find the AE, and then when finally connected it's very slow. I tried to set up the AE from this computer and interstingly, then all other computers can not find the network at all.
    Anyone any ideas ?

I had a very similar problem with a PowerBook G4 that I inherited. The final resolution was to do a complete flatten and reload of OS X, but there are a few steps you can try first that are a bit less drastic:
Try the following, and check to see if the problem disappears after each step ...
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
o Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
o Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
o Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
o Restart, or log out then back in.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
o Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
o Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Run the Disk Utility to repair Disk Permissions.
    3. Turn off the Mac OS X Firewall
    o System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    o Click the "Stop" button.
    4. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    o Go to /Library/Preferences
o Move the SystemConfiguration folder and com.apple.networkConfig.plist file to the desktop.
o Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder & .plist file back to it's original location.)
    5. Create a New User Account
    o System Preferences > Accounts
o Click "+" to add a new account
o Log off, then log back on with the new user account.
o Try connecting with the AirPort.

  • Resolved my Airport/MacBook connection problems

So I changed three settings on my base station and now my connection doesn't drop every couple of minutes:
    1) Turned SSID broadcast ON (I did have it off)
    2) Changed to allow 802.11 b AND g (it was set to just g)
    3) Changed encryption to WPA AND WPA2 (it was set to just WPA2)
So I'm not sure which of these was the real culprit or if it was exactly this combination, but I'm thrilled that my problems are over.

I am 99% certain it is this:
    1) Turned SSID broadcast ON (I did have it off)
This is down to chipset incompatibilities between the Airport and the MacBook.

My iPod Classic is not being recognized by Windows or iTunes. I have it all hooked up, turned my TV on to PC, and then my screen goes blue on my mac, like it is connecting, then a "No Signal" message pops up on my TV... I have tried restarting my mac a thousand times, and enter FN and F7 at the same time.. Nothing..
    Any idea how to fix?

Have you enabled Airplay mirroring in >Settings>Hardware>Display ?
Perhaps also go to the Color tab, and Calibrate.. often incompatible displays will refuse to send a signal through...

  • Strange Macbook connectivity problem

I have the latest Macbook with 802.11 a,b,g and N installed and enabled.
I also have an Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11n) with an Apple TV connected to it.
Strange thing is that when I enable 802.11n only (5GHZ) on the wireless router, only the Apple TV will connect.
Nothing I do to the Macbook will allow it to connect at 802.11n. If I reconfigure the Airport to 802.11 g ,a and n the Macbook will then see the wireless network, and connect.
This defeates the object,as I wanted to seperate the Apple TV and the Macbook from the rest of my 802.11g devises.
The Airport is connected via a wired connection to a router.
    It opperates in Bridge mode.
    Can anyone help.
    Cheers
    Eli

If you have the newest MacBook then the following link can help: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=36A 3C0EC&nplm=D4141ZM/A
You need that update to make your MacBook n compatible. But only the newest one will work. Or if you got the AEBS, and installed the CD, then it should have put it on so you don't need to buy that.
