Ipod madness!!!

I recently sent in an ipod for replacement because it continue to constantly have an unhappy ipod face and was not recognized by computer at all so restoring was not an option. They sent me what looked to be a new one but the first thing it did as I went to recharge it was give me the unhappy face. I remember when I first received my brand new ipod that this did not happen. I called and the gentleman told me to leave it charging for 4 hours. I did that and the ipod continue to give me errors. I kept reseting itself and would not turn on. Also there are noises coming from inside the ipod. Anyone have a clue on what happened or do I have to send it in for the third time and hope that i get a better one?

Once your iPod breaks the first time your pretty much doomed for all eternity. I have a 60GB iPod and I am on my......wait....about my 5th replacement from Apple. Sending it off to them is the only thing to do though.

  • Was this iPod made for the mini!

    OMG
    (i don't say that often)
I really was jaded about iPod in general but I think I just got the wow factor from the latest one that seems to be the "mini" of iPod world. It is just "SO CUTE". For the first time I think when I get around to getting another player that will work with my mini, this is going to be near the top of the list of candidates.

    Justin,
After watching the presentation by Steve, I knew I had to:
    b Shred my visa
b Disable one-click shopping (I even considered to have my index finger removed by surgery)
b Setup parental control to deny access to Apple Store
b Apple stop making this stuff, you're bankrupting me...
runs off to find someone with access to the Apple Store

  • More iPod madness

Since the IOS upgrade, the iPad app periodically becomes "out of sync". For example, I'll tap "Big Me" by Foo Fighters and "Big Me" will show in the Now Playing, but a completely different cover art appears AND an entirely different song starts playing that's unrelated to either the song I picked OR the cover art displayed.
Going to task manager and terminating the app then restarting fixes this for a bit, then it starts again. I've already tried reloading my entire library but since it's more than 6,000 songs it takes a REALLY long time and I'd rather not have to go through that again. Any advice?

  • IPod is not recognized by iTunes

I have a 5th Generation iPod 30GB Video (my seventh) and have a problem connecting to iTunes. My iPod is playing okay but when I try to connect to iTunes on my laptop the display shows "Do not disconnect" but iTunes does not recongize it.
I stop the USB connection and disconnect the iPod from my laptop and have to reset to get it back to operation.
I followed some instructions on this forum that advised to reset the iPod, put it in Disk Mode and then connect it to the laptop. iTunes still does not recognize it and now I have the iPod in disk mode with a "Do not disconnect" flashing on my iPod display.
    What can I try next?

I’m a big fan of the iPod but what I don’t like is Apple not being very forthcoming about how to move music from the iPod back to the PC. They’re quick enough to tell you how to move the music from your PC to your iPod but when you want to do the opposite, Apple clams up tight.
Their reasoning is probably that the only reason you’d want to take your music off the iPod is to copy it and illegally distribute it. But that is really an insult to the music buyer. There are plenty of legitimate reasons why you would want to move your music from the iPod back to the PC. For a start, what if your hard-drive crashed and the only copies of the music were on your iPod? Or you accidentally deleted a song from your hard-drive and you wanted it back, without having to buy another copy?
It has taken me ages to work out how to get the music off the iPod and onto the computer but I have finally got it. This is how to do it on a Windows PC. Since I don’t have a Mac, I can’t help there.
The easy five-step guide to moving your music from your iPod to your PC
    1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View. In the Advanced Settings list, under Hidden files and folders, check the radio button for “Show hidden files and folders”. Then click OK. You’ll get a Windows security warning but it’s safe enough to disregard it as we will only be disabling this function for a short while.
    2. Plug in your iPod. In Windows Explorer, a folder will now appear with the name of your iPod.
Double-click on that. Go to the sub-folders “iPod_Control” and then “music”. You’ll find your music there randomly scattered across multiple folders and with scrambled file names. But don’t worry, the ID3 tags are still fully intact and we are now going to “unscramble” the files.
    3. But first copy all the music from those iPod folders into a new folder on your hard-drive. Move all the songs into one single folder and discard all the folders that your iPod made. By the end, you should have one folder in your hard-drive with all the scrambled files together.
    4. Open up iTunes and do the following : Go to Edit > Preferences. Under the Advanced tab, under the General “sub-tab”, select the local folder where you have copied the music from your iPod (by clicking Change…).
Check the box “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” and click OK. Also make sure you have wiped all previous music from iTunes so your playlists are blank.
    5. In iTunes, click “File” then “add folder to library”. Select the folder where all your copied music is. iTunes will now re-import all your music back into the playlists. But more importantly, because you have previously clicked “Keep iTunes Music Folder organised”, iTunes will now start renaming and organising your songs into their correct names, albums and folders. This may take a while depending on how many songs you have in your iTunes library.
There you have it. Oh and don’t forget to go back into Windows Explorer, and to Tools > Folder Options > View. Reverse what you did so the hidden files remain hidden again. You may also want to de-select “Keep iTunes Music Folder organised” if you don’t normally use that option.
You may want to also take this opportunity (before doing the above) to wipe your iPod and revert it back to the factory settings also a suggestion; defrag your iPod (although I think that is potentially rife with problems). Then afterwards, just use iTunes to move your music from your PC back to your iPod.
Reverting it back to factory settings is good for getting rid of any crap that has built up inside the iPod and making it run faster. After all, the iPod is basically a hard-drive and like PC hard-drives, an iPod can do with a purge once in a while to give it its speed back.

  • How can I sync my iPod Touch to a new computer?

My Laptop's hard drive died: that's bad enough, but my data was backed up onto my iPod Touch, including some very rare tunes that I can't ever get again. I then installed iTunes onto my wife's desktop, but now I'm told that if I want to sync the iPod, I have to delete everything that's on it as the iPod is already synced to another computer - which now doesn't exist.
I thought that backing up my rare music to my iPod made it safe; it was on my hard drive and my iPod. Now I'm told that if I want to sync my iPod to another computer I have to delete its contents. I can't afford to lose the music, because I can't replace it. Surely this can't be right?
Incidentally, because I can't sync my iPod I have missed at least 2 appointments because my calendar isn't updated.
I understand that Apple are worried about data being copied from one computer to another, but surely there must be a way to register a new computer as one to which I should sync?.

This program can rescue your rare music for only US$25:  http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php

  • PLEASE HELP ME!  My iPod will suddenly not update, I've tried everything!

Here is a little background info.
I am using a 20GB touch wheel Ipod bought about 1 1/2 years ago. It was the last model of Ipod made before the color screens came out. I have used it forever and have never had a single problem until now (ever since I downloaded iTunes 7). Here is the problem: Each time I connect it to the PC I get this error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "STANDARDUPRISE" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." Itunes DOES recognize the ipod and so does Windows explorer, although I am also unable to save files as a hard drive (I get the same error message from Windows). I have tried everything I know to do...I did a soft reset, restored to factory settings, checked the drive for errors using chkdsk utility, erased the entire drive (it is now music/file free except for iPod software), and I have even screamed at it. But nothing has seemed to fix this issue. Does anyone have any ideas? Im up for any suggestions! Thanks so much for the help
    Chris

I'm not sure if this will help you or not and you may have tried it already. But, I was having problems with my 20gb ipod (same one you have) and tried everything, including taking it to a local repair shop and even considered just chucking it. Then I read in one of these posts to simply reboot my computer. So I did and guess what, it worked. I felt like such an idiot but sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones you overlook. I don't know if itunes 7 needed a reboot or if there was a problem because other users (my wife) were logged into their user accounts also, but try doing that.
I hope that does the trick for you. If not, sorry I couldn't have been any more help.

  • The speaker on my ipod touch is not working

    Hi
I have an ipod touch which is a year old.  The speaker element is not working.  I can still listen to music on the headphone facility, but any noises or alerts the ipod made cannot be heard through the speaker.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Sian

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • My iPod touch is frozen?

Just wanting to know if anyone knows what to do about this? Earlier I was syncing my iPod Touch and accidentally unplugged the cable. I thought nothing of it, plugged it back in and it continued and finished the sync. But when I took it out of my pocket a little while ago, it just displayed the home screen with the small loading circle in the middle. I didn't turn it off at all. I tried the obvious things first such as holding down the lock and home buttons simultaneously for ten seconds, but nothing happened. I'm not sure whether this is to do with the fact that the lock button is faulty (it works, but you need to press really hard to lock it). Then I tried connecting it to my Mac and the iPod made the connecting noises and started syncing, but still nothing happened on the screen. So I tried to back everything up and restore it, but an error message came up saying it could not be backed up so I restored it anyway because I synced it a little while ago. But another message came up saying it could not be restored. Now when I connect it to iTunes, I get another error message saying "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occured (0xE800065)"
I'm thinking about just trying to let the battery run out and then connecting it to power?
Any help would be highly appreciated, I don't want to lose everything again
    Thanks a lot!

  • IPod Classic will not sync since installed iTunes 11

iPod Classic will not sync properly since installed new iTunes. Always stops at or around song 2 and just hangs there, even if left all night. Tried restoring the iPod, made no difference. Tried syncing just some songs, sometimes it will do 20 or so but not more than that - and I have 10,000 songs.
Saw something about problem with Winsock and reset that but no effect.
Recently been re-recording CDs in Apple Lossless with 'Convert to AAC' selected for iPod. Maybe the conversion process is causing the block? But it did not before.
I also tried moving the itunes material from the Synology NAS to the PC as I thought the processing power might be the problem. It synced once after that, now it is blocked again. Tonight I tried selecting only the original AAC files and it seems to have worked for them, my problem therefore seems to be the Apple Lossless - unless the syncing of AAC files is another one-off.
Not for the first time I wish I had not updated iTunes because it so often leads to problems of some kind. Why do they not care?
    Any

Update: following successful sync of AAC files, I changed the setting to 'manual' for music & videos, used the View menu to restore the old sidebar, and manually added the Lossless files to the IPod. That actually seems to be working (very slowly). But it would be better if Sync worked as it should.

  • Ipod 4G Will not Dock via USB

    Hi,
My IPod 4G is not being recognised by XP,
Windows always throws up the message
'USB Device Not Recognised' when I dock via
    the USB cable.
Windows only seems to recognise the device
    when using a firewire cable.

    Darkmonster620 wrote:
It says it'll work with "all" iPods...
When was the manual written? What constituted "all iPods" one year would not necessarily apply to iPods made later.
Throw away my iPod and get a new one?
I don't believe I suggested anything like that.
You might get better answers if you included the exact make and model of the home theatre system. You should also search the forums using the "Search Discussions" box to see if there are any other threads about your particular brand of home theatre. Also, did you ever check the support site or contact customer support for the home theatre and car stereo?
    Best of luck.

  • Ipod: Unable to reset or restore

My Ipod (click wheel) will not reset or restore. The apple logo appears on the Ipod screen, followed by the file with an exclamation point. I have tried to use Ipod updater without success. The Ipod does not register that it is charging either when plugged into the power adapter or the Mac using the USB cable. The Ipod is not recognized by Itunes either. After the latest attempt to reset and restore, the Ipod made whizzing noises like it was attempting to continuously restart. It finally stopped. The Ipod is more than a year old and out of warrantee. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I was having a similar problem with my Click Wheel iPod. It would reset when plugged into the wall, but would not restore. It kept causing both My Computer and Updater 11-27-2005 to crash. I assumed the problem was with iTunes 6, which I recently downloaded, but I took my iPod to a Mac Store anyway to see if they could do anything with it at the Genius Bar. The guy behind the bar was very helpful; he restored my iPod in about 2 minutes, I took it home, re-imported all my music, and it's been fine ever since.
My iPod is about 1.5 years old, and although I purchased the iPod AppleCare extended service plan, the Genius Bar guy didn't ask me anything about my iPod's warranty status. Didn't ask to see a receipt or anything. He just helped me out and sent me on my way. So I'd suggest taking your iPod in and seeing if they can restore it for you. You may find that being out of warranty isn't an obstacle. It's worth a shot.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod touch 4th gen  - no sound from speaker dock

After upgrading my 4th gen iPod touch o iOS 5, the speaker dock no longer works. The dock charges the iPod, but iPod still continues to output sound from the internal speaker rather than the speaker dock. My iPhone with iOS 5 works fine on the dock. I have restored the iPod to a fresh state but the problem still persists
    What could be the problem?
    Thank you

Based on your troubleshooting, it would appear theat iOS 5 on the iPod made the dock incompatible.  Have you loked at the dock manufactore's support site?

  • IPod touch 5th generation does not recharge

My new iPod touch 5th generation, using iOS 6.0.1, is just over 1 month old and today it will not recharge anymore.
When I plug teh iPod into an outlet to recharge it no longer makes the "connection" sound and the battery icon does not change to the lightening bolt.
When the iPod is OFF and then plugged in, iPod turns on, but makes no sound and the battery icon does not change to the lightening bolt.
Also, NOW, when I plug it into my MacBook, a window appeara that says the USB has been disabled because a device was drawing too much power.
When I plug my iPod 4th generation (also using iOS 6.0.1) into my MacBook, there is no problem with the USB or charging with the same adapter.
The few hours before now . . . when plugged in to recharge . . .
sometimes iPod made the sound as I unplugged it, but it had not charged
sometimes iPod made the sound the moment it was plugged in and the lightening bolt appeared, but only for a second, then lightening bolt disappeared.
sometimes iPod made the sound and showed the lightening bolt and started to recharge, but then made the sound, lightening bolt disappeared, and iPod stopped recharging (without any contact to iPod during the recharge)
sometimes iPod made the sound, showed the lightening bolt, and started to recharge, but then during the charge it would make the sound a few times, but when I checked iPod was still recharging, or had finished the charge to 100% (also without any contact to iPod during the recharge)
    Any advice???

    Thanks IIIaass,
I got your message just after returning home from an Apple Reseller / authorized Apple service provider (Taiwan has NO Apple stores, and only resellers and authorized Apple service providers which have a wide range of levels of customer service, most well below USA Apple standards).
It did turn out that my "Lightening cable" was defective . . . I also had found many others have this problem through searching online . . . it seems strange that I could not find this information through the Apple website, trouble shooting, or community discussions.
Anyhow, of course, since I was not at an official Apple Store or dealing with an Apple service employee, they were not happy to help me, and they did not want to give me a new "Lightening cord" for my 40-day old iPod with AppleCare.   Eventually they decided to replace my cord, but it was not a pleasant experience.
I don't know why there is no Apple store in Taiwan . . . there are Apple resellers everywhere and the producta are very popular here.
Again, thanks for the information and the interesting article about the "Lightening cables".

  • I just got a Ipod touch, crashes itunes upon startup

So a few hours ago I received a new Ipod Touch for Christmas, naturally I was excited to try it out and I quickly took it out of the box, connected it to my mac, and fired up Itunes. To my dismay the Ipod made it to syncing and then my Itunes just quit and I got the "application Itunes has quit unexpectedly" message box. I tried launching and relaunching, the same thing happening over and over....I even started and restarted my Imac, in hopes that would work too. I tried my old 20gb Ipod, I think the 4th generation one, not sure, and that worked fine as always.....I am pretty frustrated, I really don't know what to do. Can someone give me some insight on this or a way for it to work. I have the latest version of Itunes which is 9.0.2.....

Tried again, just to get the problem log from the "quit unexpectedly" box.....can anyone figure this out?

  • Problem syncing from iTunes to iPod - authorisation error.

42 of 625 songs won't transfer to iPod when trying to sync. I've got the latest version of iTunes, reset & restored my iPod & made sure my PC is authorised, but error window states "you are not authorised to play these songs on this computer". Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.
    iPod video 30GB   Windows XP

    Hi Firefly999,
Have you tried re-authorizing your computer? To do that:
First off, disconnect your iPod from your computer.
From the Store menu in iTunes, click on Deathorize computer....
Enter in your Apple ID & password to deauthorize ths computer.
Then, go back to the Store menu again, and this time select Authorize computer....
    This time, authorize your computer.
Close iTunes and any other running applications, and save your data. Restart your computer.
After your computer has fully loaded up, open iTunes, and connect your iPod to your computer.
Try syncing those purchases to your iPod, and see if there's any difference with this problem.
