Ipod makes itunes 7.7 freeze

I recently installed iTunes 7.7 on my computer and now everytime I plug my iPod in it makes iTunes freeze. I've repaired and reinstalled iTunes, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Hey,
I'm a windows XP home user and this definitely worked for me!
First of all you could try doing a system date restore (restoring your system to an earlier date/time) to a date before you installed Itunes 7.7
Once this has been completed (normally takes about 10mins) complete the following steps
2). Go to your itunes music folder and find your itunes library file (will be in the letter I section of your track names)
3). Rename this file to itunes.library.itl
4). Move this file to your desktop.
5). Open Itunes
6). Move itunes.library.itl back into itunes music folder
7). Select all tracks within your itunes folder and move to itunes program so they appear there again
8). Enjoy music!
This procedure must befollowed otherwise itunes will not open and will state that the library file has been updated by a later version of itunes
NB - this will not affect music stored on an ipod, only what itunes references as music files stored on your computer within itunes music folder.
There is no risk at all of music files being deleted if this procedure is followed, you are only changing the name of the itunes library file.
Hope this helps

  • Ipod makes iTunes die

I didn't sync my ipod for a few weeks as I was on vacation, and when I tried to sync it again, iTunes just crashed. The Windows response thingy said to update to 7.0.2, so I did, but nothing changed. I plug in the iPod and iTunes dies. iTunes runs fine without the ipod attached. I can't restore my ipod because itunes won't work with it attached... it's a big circle. Any help?

  • Why is it every time I connect my iPod Classic, iTunes 11.1 freezes?

This only started happening recently. Every single time i connect my iPod, iTunes just stops responding.
I have a 160 GB newer model and Windows 7
Also I've formatted and restored it more than enough times

Stared happening when I updated to iTunes, version 11. Both on Mac OS-X 10.6 and Windows 7 platfiorms. Bounced back to an earlier version and this corrected the problem. Restored and reloaded without any difficulty. Make sure to disable AUTOMATIC UPDATES in preferences in the general pane. Keep a spare version of the application/program so that in case you need it if anything happens or somebody updates your machine if you take it in for service.
Problems associated so far from my perspective using Mac and Windows are: iPod disappears from the desktop, iPod freezes; host computer freezes; iTunes library does not load correctly or at all; Formatting on Windows based computers shows formatted when in fact it did not; iPod may not respond correctly after ejecting.
Hope this helps. Running iTunes version 9.0.2 (originally furnished with my 2009 MacBook). This is from the restore disc and works like a charm. I have the 5th generation 30 Gb iPod.
Inquiries accepted. If I can help, all the better.

  • IPod Classic "Verifying" Makes Itunes freeze

Well since the itunes 9 update or whatever whenever i plug in the USB cord to my ipod (not just mine I've tried all my friends) my itunes freezes up; but when i unplug the USB coord from the ipod itunes stops freezing and runs normally. So i cant even add songs.
    any solutions?

I am having a similar issue, for about a week or so (first major ipod issue in almost 2 years). When I plug in my ipod classic, iTunes freezes/ gives me the spinning beach ball. This lasts for about an hour, during which time itunes is unusable. After an hour or so, the ipod is recognized by itunes and syncs properly.
I have re-installed itunes, used older versions, created a new library, and restored my ipod.
My iPod works fine on other machines, and other ipods seem to work on my computer as well. The issue seems to be unique to my ipod/computer account combo.
Apple Genius Bar was able only to confirm that my iPod seemed to be functioning normally, and perhaps I had a corrupt library (I don't, as the problem persists with a new library).
If anyone has any advice on what could be the issue (a corrupt user/system file hidden somewhere?) it would be greatly appreciated. THanks

  • IPod won't sync to iTunes, hangs and freezes

Part of the way through autosyncing my songs to the iPod, the process appears to freeze, and iTunes will not respond. It doesn't seem to be any particular song, as it's happened on at least three songs at separate times. All of the songs play in iTunes.
As of yet, I've only been able to unfreeze the computer by force disconnecting the device... very bad for the iPod. I've restored it several times, tried all three USB ports on my computer, and I'm sadly out of ideas.
I have an 80 GB iPod Video, 5th Gen, I believe, and iTunes 7.2 (34).

I also have this exact problem. So far, I have:
    1) Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 7.2 five times
    2) Reset my iPod countless times and restored it (wiped the memory) twice.
    3) Taken the iPod to Apple, who looked at it and said it was fine
    4) Tried to downgrade back to iTunes 7.1.1, but I can't find a link to it anywhere. I never had any trouble with the previous iTunes release
    5) Since both iTunes and the iPod work perfectly by themselves, I reasoned that the connection between them might be bad. So I replaced the USB cable and tried a different port on my computer. This gave the best results so far, but then the same thing happened. Now when I connect the iPod, it doesn't show up at all on my computer.
    6) Updated Quicktime to the latest release
    7) Yelled at iTunes and the iPod collectively and called them rude names.
Like the other two posters here, files will transfer fine, then all of the sudden, at some random time, a transfer will hang and the whole program freezes. The only way to eject the iPod is to manually disconnect it, get fussed at by iTunes, and reset the iPod. I'd guess that there's some issue with a buffer somewhere, but it happens randomly. Sometimes, I'll transfer 600 songs plus some videos and it will hang. Next time, it will only transfer 10 songs before hanging. It makes no difference if it's transferring music, video, media purchased from the iTunes store, or music I've ripped from my own CDs.

  • ITunes is not recognizing my iPod so I cannot sync my music, but I can use home sharing and it will work... How do I make iTunes recognize my iPod touch?

I've had my iPod touch for over a year now, and I haven't used it or iTunes in a while. I updated iOS on my iPod and updated to the newest version of iTunes earlier. Now that I have put some new music in my music library (not from iTunes), iTunes will not recognize my iPod, but if I turn on Home Sharing, it will sync to my iPod... Which would be fine, but I have to have Wi-Fi all the time for that to work, and sometimes I don't have Wi-Fi when I leave my house. So how do I make iTune recognize my iPod?

  • As soon as the IPOD starts to synch with ITUNES, it makes ITUNES close

My brand new 5th Gen IPOD Video makes ITUNES (7.02) close immediately after the start of the synch process. A pop window appears stating that ITUNES HAS TO CLOSE......

  • ITunes and Computer freezes when ipod is connected

When I connect my video ipod to my computer (dell desktop) the system freezes, as in it will not respond to mouse clicks and keyboard (but can still get to task manager). When I unplug the ipod it comes back to life. Programs always freeze, but sometimes I am able to navigate within windows without it freezing, but as soon as a program is brought up, my computer falls to its knees.
I have the latest version of iTunes, and updater v. 1.1, (but I have not been able to update the firmware yet from v 1.0).
The odd thing is last night I was able to download several gigs worth of music to it without incident. I then tried to load movies (they were in the wrong format, but I didn't know it at the time), and so in an effort to correct that I uninstalled itunes, the ipod drivers, and the ipod updater programs several times.
I cannot update the ipod firmware because the computer freezes when the ipod is plugged in, so the program freezes as well. Kind of a catch 22 situation.
I have been over the forums and help archives for about an hour and a half now and I have come up dry.
Windows XP does recognize the ipod when the cable is connected, and the ipod flashes, "Do not disconnect", which it is supposed to do.
I suspect this is drivers/software, but I have no idea where to go from here.
    Help?

    Hey!
That EXACT thing happened to me! 2 nights ago I'm downloading like crazy, all is well. I got on LimeWire and downloaded some videos and tried to put them on my iPod. Imported them into iTunes then tried to put em on my iPod and it completely wiped out all my songs! So I get back on, put the songs back in, and about half way through the update the thing freezes. I've re-installed everything, and have reset my iPod. Did you figure out what to do? Maybe your fix will fix my problem, too.
    Thank you!

  • I recently purchased an iPod touch and it is not being recognized by my computer, iTunes is also freezing when I try to close it out.  Anyone have suggestions?

I purchased an iPod touch for my husband, he was still using the first iPod classic. The iTunes has not recognized the iPod and iTunes is not working properly, it continues to freeze and won't close down properly.  Has anyone else run into this?  He has run the antivirus software, updated his Windows, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  Nothing....any ideas?

  • Ipod Classic in recovery mode freezes itunes

My 160gb 2009 ipod classic wasn't being recognized in itunes. I did everything and it wouldn't work. It was working perfectly fine other than that. And when it was plugged in, it was charging, etc.
I closed itunes, put it into recovery mode while it was plugged in and kept holding the Mend/select button. Itunes recognized it in recovery mode. Then after I click restore, it says it is preparing it, then after that, it just freezes with the rainbow wheel.
One time it did get to the next point where the software is being download, but it froze right before it finished.
The last time I unplugged it after it froze it says "You must use FireWire to restore ipod". This can't be true can it? I've never even heard of firewire for ipods.
Any ideas what to do here? I really want to be able to fix this.
    Thanks guys.

*update. I got it to restore on a windows laptop my girlfriend has. Now when I plug it into my mac, the "Ipod" disc shows up but it still won't show up in itunes and it freezes when I try to eject the ipod disc...
