IPod makes scratching/static noise

I got my previous iPod replaced because the headphone jack wore out. Upon receiving my replacement i found out that, after spending an hour or two in my pocket or in any slightly warmer place, the music the iPod was playing would become scratchy, static-y and eventually the iPod would go silent. It would still keep playing, but it would either not make any sound or make horrible static screeching noises. It isn't a jack problem because I just got new headphones, and the sound goes back to normal if i keep the iPod somewhere colder for a little while. wondering if anyone knows how to fix this, or if i should get this fixed. and if perhaps i can get it fixed without paying shipping, since i received a product that was faulty out of the box.

Hey, just wondering if you ever found out anything about this. I also have this problem and it's getting worse! I have to hold it up against the AC vent in the car while I drive or it screeches and crackles and then cuts out. Also, if above 80 or 85 degrees out I am out of luck for listening to it. I have to place it into the refrigerator for a few minutes to get it to play. Frustrating and ridiculous.

  • BOSE Mk1 Soundock & 1st Gen iPod Touch + Electric/Static Noise**

I have recently bought a Bose Mk1 Soundock for my 1st Gen iPod Touch, at first worked fine, brilliant lil gadet, but then it started to generate a reeeely high pitched electric/static noise when the battery was fully charged when music was both on or off, i returned and got an exchange for a brand new bose which didnt solve the problem so i can only assume its the ipod, so i put in a service request with apple, off it went and came back 'un-repaired' as apple 'could not reproduce the problem/s'?? since then it has started generating this noise regardles of battery level or music on/off and is reely, reely, reely annoying and is rendering the unit virtually unusable with the bose, am i the only one who can hear this or is anyone else having/had the same problem??!?

    Hey
    Is it this noise:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqeggo7DSGg
If so, I'm having the same problem. I've emailed B&W support about it. It doesn't occur without the ipod docked. Doesn't seem to be a problem with other docks though, so it could be fixable with a firmware update. In fact, it wasn't ever a problem with the original Zeppelin firmware, only after the update.

  • MacBook Makes odd Static noise ~NOT SPEAKERS~

I have just recently reinstalled Leopard after a hard drive error (possibly caused when I dropped it 4 feet :P), and everything was fine. But I noticed that my speakers weren't as loud as they were and they sounded kind of muffled. Then the MacBook just started making this subtle popping noise, but that stopped after a day, but now it makes this horrendous loud static noise out of no where, and *it is not the speakers* because I turn them down and it still makes the noise. The noise has stopped for now but if I try to listen to iTunes it is VERY garbled. Could this possibly have something to do with the hard drive or disc drive or any kind of hardware issue? Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Just because you turned down the speaker volume but yet can still here the static noise does not mean that it is not coming from the speakers. Since something is damaged or broken you cannot assume that turning down the speaker volume will keep an errant sound turned down also.
Since you dropped the computer from 4 feet the problem could be just about any hardware component, from the hard drive to the logic board.

  • Audio makes buzzings/static noise

When audio is present, whether through the speakers or headphones, it is accompanied by static noise like a broken speaker cone makes- buzzes and static

Solved the problem myself; found there was an add'l clip causing the noise.

  • IPod makes an odd noise when syncing to computer

Whenever I plug my iPod in, it makes a high pitched, quiet scratching noise. My computer is also very slow when it comes to the same thing? Could somebody explain what it, how to fix it, or if I can fix it? Because it takes a long time to load and I don't have that much time.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Let's get it recognized by iTunes first.
Is it showing up in My Computer when connected?
    If it is...

  • Ipod makes a weird noise and stops working

I have a 30 bg video ipod that I got this past christmas, and lately when I'm listening to it all of a sudden I will hear a screaching noise and then I wont hear anything. The ipod shows the song is playing but I cant hear it. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know what I can do?
    Thanks for the help

I hate to make the following suggestions (please choose one) but I afraid you have no other choice, as the main problem is your iPod cant manage to be recognized by a computer ,neither a Mac nor a PC for you do the Restore to fix up the hard disk problem. Your iPod is either having a HD failure or its needle hand get stuck at a certain point
    1. Send it for repairing
    2. If you do not want pay to the expensive service cost then Buy a new one
    3. Open the iPod and unplug and plug the battery
    4. Hold the iPod with your left palm and hit the sides and back (gentle please) of your iPod for few attempts until you see the iPod showing the Language Menu
Please note if you try to do 3 or 4, your iPod will loss the warranty so only do it at last resort and at your own risk
Please read the following before you do anything

  • IPod makes a funny noise when skipping too quick..

Anyone else getting a loud 'clicking' noise when you skip too fast thru tracks? It's like it loads a fraction of the track, then pauses while it gets the next one, but instead of pausing, just repeats the fraction of the track and makes a really really loud fast 'clicking' noise for 2 or 3 seconds and locks up while it's doing it. Never did that before the update. Makes me want to throw the phone out the window with that and the battery life!!

I had the same problem last night minus the humming noise. A movie froze on my 5th gen ipod. It remained that way the rest of the night. I couldnt turn it off or, the screen remained on. I tried plugging it into the usb and still nothing. My computer wouldnt even read it. Luckily by the time i awoke this morning it had finally turned off. My guess is to dead battery. So i plug it into my comp and wait about 5 minutes and it finally was read by my computer...
Doubt this will help you at all. Just wanted to share my similar experience.

  • Ipod makes really irritating noise as scrolling through names of songs

Just bought a ipod 3gen as I think its prettier than the new one, and i have bought a JBL on stage 111 model speaker....rushed home to try it, but when it is attached it makes clicking noises all the time, and can be heard through the songs. Its when the titles are scrolling or it is counting though the time of the song.....its really annoying! Is this my Ipod doing this or my new speakers?

But that doesnt stop it. The clicker button says its off and its says it is playing though the speakers. But for some reason it is really bad when playing though the bottom adaptor thing rather than the aux out. any more ideas?

  • Does your Ipad speakers make a static noise?

    Hi world,
I am curious to hear from others about whether or not they are getting a static hiss from their iPad when any system notification sounds or music is paused.
You may need to place your ear up to the speaker but mine is audible in a quiet room from around 2 feet and is rather annoying.
I visited a genius bar and they confirmed the static but the replacement iPad also had this noise so they were unwilling to proceed any further.
Am curious as to whether its just mine or other people have issues.
If you have had problems - Could you advise how they were dealt with?
    Many thanks for your time,
    Fractal

Wow, these must be some E.T. iPads out thereplaying "perfect sounds" without this hiss in them (they must have some automatic-cleaning feature on, LOL).
The thing is that samples used for notification events are not perfectly clear and they have this "hissing" noise (not very loud though) in the background, basically "built-in" the sound samples. Mine does too, and every single one at Apple store (display units) does the same. Trust me I checked it myself because I was also curious to find out. Apple store is located just 500 feet from where I live, so going there costed me nothing.
True, this hissing background noise should not be heard from a far, only when you put your iPad's speaker very close to your ear (almost closing your ear-hole), and only immediately after playing those specific notification sounds. Hissing could last from few seconds, up to almost a minute, depending how close cropped those sounds were. I guess someone did a sloppy job at Apple when editing these sounds.
Don't worry, it's not your hardware that's defective, it's Apple's software. They could easily fix it if they clean up those system sounds and update everything with next OS update.

  • IPod making scratching noises, making me cry T-T

Yeah, my iPod makes scratching noises whenever i try to hook up to the cmputer, and iTunes doesn't recognize it. Anyone have any idea??

Uh oh sounds like your hard drive is bad.

  • Macbook Pro charger static noise

So I have been looking at the different discussions about why some macbook pro chargers are making a static noise while connected to the mac, but none of these really fit my situation. For some reason when I plug in the charger in an outlet that is high up, like an outlet that is on the ceiling, so that the charger is dangling down, the static charge noise starts up. But when I plug it in an outlet that is on level with, or below, the macbook, the charger does not make any static noise. Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening? Thanks!

When you plug it into the ceiling, gravity is pulling the sound down toward your ears. When you plug it in low on a wall, gravity pulls the sound down away from your ears. What happens if you lie on the floor with your head below the adapter and its wall outlet? Aha! Just as I thought!
But seriously — I have never heard, or heard of, the noise you're talking about.

  • Static noises in external/internal speakers

  • Why is my iPod touch making a static noise?

My iPod touch (2 gen) is making a static noise from the internal speaker. Anytime that I play my iPod from the speaker or headphones, it makes a static and crackling noise. However, it does work when I connect it to my iPod dock. I have tried the five R's and none of them work. What can I do to fix this?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod making static noises

When I am in the middle of using my iPod (4th generation iTouch) it will make static noises then freeze. Then it will reset and not turn back on for at least another 2 hours. It just shows the apple symbol or the spinning wheel. Once it finally turns back on it will only work for about 2 minutes then do the same thing over again. Please help because I use my ipod for many things and its a pain when it won't work

Audio plays fine on the speakers, it's the earphones that make the noise. I tried using a different pair, and the noise SEEMS to be gone. Also, alongside the audio popping, the volume lowers slightly whenever the noise occurs, and sometimes my songs/videos pause randomly. I've noticed the glitch only occurs when I move my iPod, so if I wanted to just carry it from my desk to my bed, with earphones in and audio playing, it pops. Keeping it still, it almost never happens.
It seems as if the earphones I were using are just faulty, but using them on my laptop, they're fine. My friend who is also tech-savvy says it's possibly a problem with my earphones, and I think so as well, but with all this new info I just shared, is the problem caused by the iPod itself?

  • Ipod makes clicking noise and won't be recognized by itunes.

I've had this ipod for about 2-3 years (5th generation 30 GB) and all of a sudden it started making clicking noises when i started it. So i connected it to my computer and all it does is (1). Start up with the Apple Logo (2). Make that clicking noise where it sounds a ticking clock. (3.) Please wait, very low battery. (then it goes forward after) (4). Shows some icon with an ipod with dead eyes ( x.x ), emergency icon and it says www.apple.com/support/ipod. Please answer because i have over thousands of songs and i dont have them on my itunes ( i transfer the songs to my itunes. then my ipod but then i had to reformat it and so the songs on itunes are gone and i have only my ipod)

ive got excatly the same problem, my pod (also had it 3yrs 30gb 5th generation) has started making the clicking noise, i get the apple symbol appear or the sad looking face, im unable to restore it and i think the sad face may mean its a hardware problem from wot ive read on the online support. but i dont know what to do or where to send it to be fixed or if it can be fixed, if you find out how it can be fixed please let me know its doin me head in.
