Also I cannot Find the IPOD in the device Manager on PC not sure if this is cause of problem. The IPOD worked OK up to 4 weeks ago Can any one help please?

Try one or more of the following:
    > Restart Your Computer
    > Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
    > Reset iPod (nothing will get deleted)
    > Look in My Computer (Windows 98, XP) OR Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if your iPod is in there.
In some cases (and this happened to me before) plug your iPod in and out your computer a few times. It should get it going. If not, then I strongly recommend starting your computer.

  • IPod appearing in Device Manager as unknown device

Hi, I'm currently using an iPod Nano 4th Gen. and it is appearing in Device Manager as an unknown device. I found this out after the error message "USB device not recognised" or something, and followed instructions. I'm currently clueless on what to do. My OS is Windows 8. When I go into properties of the unknown device (iPod) the device status is: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). And in details, I get: USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE
If you need any more information to help me, please do not hesitate to request it. I just really would like this issue to be solved. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the update, passionflower
I think next would be a good idea to shutdown the computer, and disconnect everything from it. Let it sit for a minute or two, then plug it all back up and turn the computer on, then try again.
Next I would start troubleshooting the USB ports on the computer. I would start with this troubleshooting.
On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    Double-click the System icon.
    Click the Hardware tab.
    Click Device Manager.
Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    Click the Power Management tab.
Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    Restart the computer.
From: iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB
              http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1401
    And then this troubleshooting
Plug the device directly into a high-power USB 2.0 port on the computer. If possible, use a USB port on the back of the computer.
Avoid plugging the device into a keyboard, display, or standalone hub. The USB ports on these accessories may be low-power or only offer USB 1.x connections.
If you are using an accessory, remove the accessory and connect the device to the computer using only the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cable.
If you have access to additional Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cables, try testing with another if the first one doesn't work.
Restart your computer and device. To restart your device:
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.
Disconnect all USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then reconnect the iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect other USB devices, testing after each connection.
    From: iOS: Troubleshooting USB connection
              http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286
If you have another computer you can also test the iPod Nano there to help isolate whether the issue is with the iPod or the computer.
And just in case the issue is still not resolved, I want to thank you for using the Apple Support Community. Due to the nature of your issue you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
    All the very best,

  • Itunes Mobile device manager wont load/gone

I bought a new ipad3 and i am having an error message come up when syncing my music  from my iTunes account on a HP Netbook (Windows XP) to my iPad3.
I get an error message that the iTunes Mobile Device Manager is not connected. Using the new 10.6 OS upgrade....recently updated what has happened.
I repaired iTunes in my Programs, tried to sync...no go. I then deleted iTunes completely and reinstalled.....same result....no Device Manager.
Maybe I haven't deleted some or all programs first and then try to reinstall? ...maybe I missed something.
All programs labeled Apple and iTunes were deleted...am I missing something?
Thanks for any help and guidence.

  • I accidentally synced my iPhone to my sisters computer and now my computer wont recognise my iphone to automatically sync for music form my itunes...Help?

I accidentally synced my iphone 4s to my sisters computer and now my computer won't recognise it and allow me to download music and photos etc. Is tehre some simple settign In need to do  to allow my compuetr to recognise my iphone again?

Connect to your computer, start iTunes, right click on your phone in the device list, choose "backup". iTunes will perform a manual backup without syncing your phone.
After that sync your phone, iTunes will erase the content, but you can use the manual backup to restore from afterwards.

  • Itunes freezes when ipod plugged in, computer wont recognise it.

I know it's a common problem but when I plug my IPod Classic into my laptop, it causes itunes to freeze and won't respond to anything unless I unplug the IPod.
It started when I was playing a tune on itunes and plugged the ipod in. Itunes was still starting up and the conflict seemed to confuse it and caused the problem.
If I plug the ipod in, my computer recognises it as a drive, not an ipod, but the device manager does recognise it and says it is working fine.
I've tried to restore it on my computer but it doesn't do anything until I unplug it, then of course it can't find the device. Plug it back in and again, won't respond to any commands until the ipod is unplugged.
The ipod seems to play ok on my dock so the problem lies with the communication with the ipod and the computer.
I've updated itunes, checked the ipod is up to date, even bought a new cable. I've tried it in disk mode but I don't seem to be able to do anythng to either fix the problem, or restore my ipod.
    I am using Windows 8.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

  • Ipod Touch "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Well about a month ago i updated my Windows XP Laptop to Vista Ultimate. Everything was running smoothly until i found out i had some problems with my laptop recognizing my Ipod Touch. I been having this problem from the time i upgraded and i been trying to find a solution for 3 weeks until i gave up, But now im in desperate need of help. I can tell for one that its not my Ipod thats the problem its possibly my laptop since i connected my Ipod to another laptop, my sister owns(Vista Home Premeum) and it works fine on hers. When i had Windows XP i never had problems with syncing devices, Not even when my laptop was infected. Ok so basically when i try to connect my Ipod Touch to my laptop, It goes to Driver Software Installation and it say inside the box when clicked "Serching Preconfigured Driver Folders" and then after ten seconds it says Failed "Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed." And on top of that IT EVEN READS MY IPOD AS A DIGITAL STILL CAMERA!! I tried alot of so called solutions and none of them worked. I would hate to go back to XP since i like Vista alot. Not even my ps3 controller doesn't respond no more when i connect it, It used to respond when i had XP tho

Ok well, i fixed my problem, Which seemed almost impossible was actually quite easy but tricky. While i was reading threw these forums for posts related to my problem. I read a post that there was supposed to be a file named usbaapl.inf to help out with the problem i had, well i tried to find the file but i didn't have it. The post i read said if its not found, i didn't install Itunes right, So what i did, I Uninstalled everything that was related to Apple so i can start a fresh clean install of itunes. I restarted twice so i can make sure itunes would install completely, after i downloaded itunes, once downloaded i installed it, took about 5-10 minutes. when i connected my ipod touch nothing happened, then i kept connecting it and disconnecting it about 2 times, after i restarted it once more. Then opened itunes and connected my ipod touch again and same result, Then i realized that earlier today i disabled my ipod touch threw Device Manager. While my ipod was connected and itunes opened, i un-disabled my ipod and it WORKED!!!! Anyway that was the trick, i just had to Disable my Ipod Touch first then reinstall itunes. I just wrote this just in case someone had a similar problem, Cause i tried everything before and i mean EVERYTHING. mods you can close this.

  • Desktop Manager Updated to ver. 5.0 - why is Device Manager tray icon "exit" greyed out?

Just updated to Desktop Manager 5.0
    Blackberry Device Manager 4.7.1.11
    BBDevMgr 4.1.0.11
    Rim USB Driver 4.1.0.4
    Rim USB Serial Driver 2.2.0.3
Before with previous version Device Manager tray icon would go away after disconnecting BB.
Now Device Manager tray icon does not go away after disconnecting BB and when right-clicking on it "exit" is greyed out - what's up with that? Is this by design? Why can't I get rid of the tray icon when disconnected?
    JSD

Here's something bizarre. I have also been syncing contacts, calendars and tasks for a long time with my Storm. After downloading the Desktop 7.0 I also saw the Calendar as not available. I don't particularly remember seeing Memo as an option but I also selected it this time around as I was going through the old reload the os, restore, etc. Anyway I did a test adding an appointment to my Outlook calendar then ran the sync for contacts, tasks and memos and amazingly it shows on my Storm's calendar. Not sure how comfortable I am in depending on this but you might try and place an appointment on Outlook's calendar, run the sync and see if it shows up on your cell's calendar. Strange but it is working for me.

  • [Athlon64] Device Manager shows "Other devices: ?(!) RAID Controller"

(This was previously posted to the Operating Systems forum, when I realized it's not really a Windows problem)
In my Windows XP Device Manager, under Other devices, I see ?(!) RAID Controller.
I don't have a RAID controller, and my Serial ATA hard drives are connected to the SATA VIA ports. I've been told that this can be toggled in the BIOS. Now, this started happening after I flashed to BIOS 2.0, and the BIOS isn't exactly straight forward to me. Therefore, I'm having trouble finding that option.
Has anybody had a simliar problem? Any ideas?

    === PROBLEM RESOLVED ===
The two BIOS Default options I have are "Load High Performance Options" and "Load BIOS Setup Options". I chose "High Performance". It was somewhat a two-part procedure.
I entered the BIOS Options, and then Boot Sequence. The available options were: Floppy, CD, or BBS(0) RealTek Boot Agent, but not the Serial ATA hard drives. So I set the Sequence as 1) Floppy, 2) CD, 3) N/A, and 4) Check for other devices: Yes.
I rebooted, and it located the Serial ATA drives and proceeded to the RealTek Boot Agent anyway. I bypassed the Agent by pushing ESC. I entered Windows XP to find that, under Device Manager's SCSI & RAID Controllers, I had one entry: VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller, and no other entries. As of now, Device Manager lists a perfect hardware record.
Now to correct the Boot Sequence. I restarted and re-entered BIOS. I entered Boot Sequence again to find that my Serial ATA drives are now selectable. I changed the Sequence to 1) Floppy, 2) CD, 3) BBS(0) SATA Maxtor, and 4) Check for other devices: No.
Now my system bootup behaves as it should. No lengthy IDE device check and no RealTek boot agent check. Windows XP is also in check! :-)
This was kind of tricky. This doesn't appear to me to be a widespread problem, but I think we oughta put this in a sticky or something. I wanted to say thanks to everybody who contributed to this thread for their help! I'm going to document this fix. LOL

  • IPod Nano: Error Message "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it"

Hi everyone, I just received 2 brand new iPod Nanos for my kids for Christmas, thought I'd be smart and sync them both now before wrapping them so I don't have to be messing around with them on the day. One synced without a problem, then using the same cable, same computer, same USB port, the 2nd one came up with "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it" I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging and reinserting the USB. Is there anthing else I can try before returning it? Thanking you for any help.

I have solved my problem, I ended up ringing Apple and got an awesome lady who told me to reset it by pressing the sleep button and menu button together for about 10 seconds and once it actually turned on for the first time the computer then recognised it, so it's all good, :-) Thank you lovely lady!

  • Just bought 4th Gen.iPod shuffle from Amazon.  My computer (Windows 7) wont recognise device, neither does iTunes.  Have reinstalled iTunes, and nothing seems to work,  Anyone have any ideas.

Just bough 4th Generation iPod Shuffle from Amazon - comp;uter doesnt recognmise device, neither does iTunes.  I have re-installed iTunes, re-started Computer but nothing seems to work.       I have a 2nd generation iPod shuffle and that is recognised by computer.  Anyone have any suggestions - I am at my wits end.

There is a USB printer connected to the back port of the PC. The mouse and keyboard are both PS/2.
I did attempt to reinstall the USB root drivers. After uninstalling iTunes and all the other apple software packages included, I uninstalled everything USB in Device Manager, then rebooted the PC to let Windows reinstall it all.
Reinstalling the OS -might- fix the issue, but if that were the case, it's most likely just a software conflict that can easily be fixed if I can manage to narrow the specific conflicts down. I've already essentially disabled everything with MSCONFIG except for Apple stuff, so I'm at a loss as to where to go. I've attempted the 5 Rs and all that as well, none of it seems to do the trick. I also cleared the temp folder multiple times (once per each iTunes uninstall / reinstall following the support site directions of uninstalling all the extra apple software) as well as attempted restarts of the Apple services.
One oddity I would like to point out is that if I attempt to restart the iPod service through services.msc, it will not restart. It throws the error message of "the service failed to respond in a timely fashion" or whatever. I instead have to use the windows Task Manager to manually kill the iPod process in the processes list.
I just now removed the USB printer and plugged the shuffle into the same port, but I receive the same error message in iTunes about the iPod being corrupted and it needing a restore. If I push restore, the software gets stuck in an endless loop. There are no other USB devices attached to this computer, the motherboard drivers are fully up to date from nVidia's website, and other USB devices clearly function just fine (USB memory sticks, USB printer, etc). If I use the Diagnostics option under Help in iTunes, it will claim there is no iPod connected, and, again, the iPod still does not show up in Windows Explorer under My Computer as an attached device, nor does it show up in Disk Management as a mounted partition.
