Feel free to add apps and/or details!

Any and all wiki articles discussion should be in the Forum & Wiki sub section. but thanks

  • Looking for a good Password Manager App for the iPhone

I'm looking for a good and reliable Password Manager App for the iPhone with sync capabilities on macs. I've read several reviews on several different apps on iTunes, and either they don't work properly, or they're a rip off, or they just don't sync or all of the above. Any recommendations?
    Thanks in advance.

I've been very happy with 1Password, though I haven't used the iPhone component (not having an iPhone).

  • Do any iPod Touch apps use the BT chip?

Do any of the iPod Touch apps use the Bluetooth chip? I also read that this is the same broadcom chip that can be used for FM tuning. Does any app use this feature or has this been disabled, too? I want to make sure that I am not missing out on some cool new feature.

You're not missing out on anything. The Bluetooth functionality in the 2nd Generation iPod touch isn't even enabled yet so no apps could use it even if they wanted to until v3.0 comes out.
There has been no mention of FM functionality being activated, and since no iPod has ever had an inbuilt FM receiver it's unlikely the iPod touch will. FM transmitter is more likely, but still no mention of it.

  • PDF for the Arch Wiki?

Hello, I would like to suggest the arch wiki would have a pdf version so that users with no present connection can just read the pdf if they are up to something...Would it be nice?  I know that the wiki is constantly updated but we can release updated versions monthly or weekly of the pdf containing the latest updates...:)

Wont that be much better than having this discussion over and over?

If you, and possibly others, would like to take on the task of converting the wiki to pdf, and keeping the pdfs in sync as the wiki changes, please go ahead. If others are interested, maybe they will post here. The arch dev team contributes to the wiki like everyone else, but we certainly wouldn't have the time to do this alongside our existing work.
There are many who wish their ideas to get implemented but few who are working .......
I would like to have the wiki in pdf, i am going to try to make a pdf version, but u_no_hu you also could try something yourself? The community is there for you and you are there for the community, you also could help with bugtracing, bug fixing, community projects (yaourt), working on the wiki, every program that is use and isn't in the Wiki i'll try to add a wiki about it

  • IPod (music) app on the iPad is terrible, or am I missing something?

I think the iPod app on the iPhone is pretty great, but the iPod app on the iPad 2 is really, really awful. Am I missing something? My main issue with it is that you can't browse by genre. There is a Genre tab at the bottom, but when I tap then and then tap a genre, instead of getting a list of artists in that genre, what I get is a little popup window that lists every song by every artist from every albums within that genre. It's completely worthless. On the iPhone I can tap a genre and then see the artists in that genre. Tap an artist and I see the albums by that artists, then I can tap on a specific album and then play it. That's what I want to do. Is there some way to do this with the iPad version that I'm missing?
Even the Artists tap is far from ideal. If you tap that you do see all of the albums by that artist, but they are all listed in one popup window and you can't tap an album and just see the tracks on that album and just play that album. You can start playing on a certain album, but when that's done it will go onto the next album in the list, and that's not what I want.
Is there any way to get the iPhone's iPod app behavior that I like?

I agree. It is certainly one area that can be significantly improved on the iPad.
Send feedback to Apple on it.

  • What is a good project management app for the iphonee

  • My ipod opens apps but the apps closes by themselves

My ipod touch doesn't have the apps open by a good time , when i open one it closes by itself and my ipod doesnt have a month since i bought it so please help me resolving my problem i can't even browse things in safari

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
If the Restore doesn't help, call Apple.  Your device is only a month old and you shouldn't have to jump through hoops.

  • Can I use iPod Touch apps on the iPad Mini?

I have purchased iPod touch apps and movies for my iPod and now would like an iPad Mini. Can I use all of my old apps to transfer them to my iPad Mini?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
iPad apps are supported on the iPad mini, so some applications will work on the iPad mini and other not, and you'll have to purchase the iPad version of other programs

  • Managing Apps in the cloud?

I can see many Apps in the Itunes Store. I have hidden the ones that I don;t use. There is a download option as well. WHat am I supposed to do with these apps? Download them, hide them?, I can't seem to arrange my screens any longer.

You can download those that you want to have back on your iDevices at no charge. They are yours, you have paid for them back in the past. Apple keeps them available for you.

  • Licenses, Copyright and the Arch Wiki

I've written a wiki article explaining how to enable font anti-aliasing in Java apps and how to switch away from the default font, Lucida, that Java apps use. Unfortunately, it describes procedures for the closed(?) source Sun JRE.
I've included a 6 line snippet from the file /opt/java/jre/lib/fontconfig.properties.src. Three of those included lines are
    # @(#)linux.fontconfig.properties 1.2 03/10/28
    # Copyright 2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
I've attempted to read the icense agreements that accompany the Sun JRE. I get simultaneously put to sleep and repulsed by the legalese.
Before I post the article, and hoping to prevent bad things, are there any guidelines for this.  I think my use of the code snippet and the procedures I give are covered under "fair use."
Or, to whom should I send the article for review?
    IANAL -- I Am Not A Lawyer.
Anal? Yes, at times. A lawyer? No.

Oh, I'm old! I just now remembered why the file bothered me. I print a copy of the file, just pointing to different fonts.
The edited version is simply an emended version of the original. Which it has to be considering the files are config files. Where the original has 20 lines similar to these:
    serif.plain.latin-1=-b&h-lucidabright-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.bold.latin-1=-b&h-lucidabright-demibold-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.italic.latin-1=-b&h-lucidabright-medium-i-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    I have this:
    serif.plain.latin-1=-misc-dejavu serif-medium-r-normal-*-*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.bold.latin-1=-misc-dejavu serif-bold-r-normal-*-*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.italic.latin-1=-misc-dejavu serif-medium-i-normal-*-*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
I suppose the best thing to do is to note the original copyright in the second file.  You would have a hard time setting up any config file without doing copying.
I'm done. Thanks for helping me think this through.

  • Is AIR the right platform for photo management app?

I need to build a web-enabled photo management app with the following features:
    server sign-in and authentication
photos fetched from server via REST API/XML
tag, rate (i.e. 1-5 stars), and edit properties for photos, with data updated on or sync-ed with server
all the RIA UI goodies, like multi-select, drag/drop, AJAX-style auto-complete, overlay icons on thumbs,
all the photo management goodies, like fast scrolling, histograms, resizeable thumbnail
able to handle 1000s of photos in 1 album (server is on a local LAN)
One key issue is how the platform loads an album with 1000s of photos in the background, and scrolls through pages of thumbnails. I tried before to build this in Java and all the threading issues were too much for me.
I have good experience with CakePHP & MySQL and some experience with Java, but I am resigned to learning a new platform/libs. I just need to know where to invest my learning time.
Can some experienced users pipe in on whether AIR the right platform for me to build on? Should I use Javascript etc, or learn Flex?
Is there anything out there I could just build on? I'm also considering building on Yahoo YUI or Google GWT as an alternative.
    thx.
    m.

Let me clarify the issue of 1000s of photo. I the app would need to load thumbnails for 1000s of photos, but only open the full size photo when the thumbnail is clicked. probably 120px max dimension, pre-rendered on the server. I have tried to open 1000 thumbs in a plain html page, and the photos come quickly - as if from the local file system - but it does seem to slow the UI until everything is loaded.
Is there a way for AIR to load the thumbnails is the current "view port" immediately, and the rest in the background? YUI has an imageLoader class that does something like this. Could I use this within AIR?
The other requirement is to manage a DB of tags ratings, and other attributes for the photos, but I can't imagine that is a big challenge. right?

  • Scrolling Synaptic Touchpad Problem (Arch Wiki didn't solve it)

Good to the whole Arch's community.
First of all to appear, I am codebuster and am new in this community and in this magnificent distro that I have been charmed with for his simplicity and performance. Always I had begun for behind the topic of the configuration of Arch's installation, but consulting his magnificent tips and coming to the official information it me has been possible. I have everything working of correct form except the function of scroll of my touchpad Synaptic (function that I use always and that really I throw enough in lack). I have followed the steps indicated so much in the Wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics) as in numerous forums of linux in inet but I have not managed to make it work, for what I resort to you to seeing if someone can throw something of light.

¡¡¡¡ Thanks a lot for the info !!!
I remove all the Synaptics entries in the xorg.conf and worked fine with the /dev/input/mice option (in the Arch Wiki was # commented, the device, was /dev/psaux, and my mouse in hardinfo was recognized as PS/2 Synaptic for that I thought that it was the correct  option ).
Only one question, now I have set the scrolling mode with two fingers, ¿do you know how to activate one finger scrolling? I tried with these options in Mouse section but doesn't work for me:
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "true" # enable vertical scroll zone
Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "false" # enable horizontal scroll zone
Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "false" # vertical scroll anywhere with two fingers
Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "false" # horizontal scroll anywhere with two fingers
¡ Many, many thanks and my best regards !

  • Managing Apps without iTunes

Is there a PC app for managing Apps on the touch? iTunes won't run on my PC. I use Media Monkey for songs on my iPods.

    There is NOT one.
    Itunes is REQUIRED.

  • Images on Arch wiki

Uploading images to the Arch wiki seems to be forbidden for normal users.
    Why is that?
All in all, the wiki seems to contain very few images.
    Is that an explicit rule?

karol wrote:Yup, only some icons got uploaded.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/He … nt_content
Ok, that page confirms it's an official policy, but it doesn't explain why.
    Is server space an issue?
Or is it to ensure that users of text-based browsers can see all information on the wiki?
karol wrote:What exactly did you want to include?
For one thing, I was wondering in general why the wiki articles are not decorated with the occasional screenshot or diagram etc. like in most other wikis.
For another, I would really like to use the following two images in feature comparison tables (example) in the wiki, where otherwise the words "Yes" and "No" would appear:
It would just make it so much easier for the reader to get an instant overview of the information contained in the table at a glance, as well as to find a specific piece of information in it.
Using the relevant html magic, it should be possible to make sure that browsers which can't show images will continue to show the words "Yes" and "No" in their place.

  • What source base the Arch Linux Xorg build from?

I need a complete package of X windows system installed. No idea which directory the Arch Linux X11 install to.
    Only find  below with "find"
    /usr/share/X11
    /usr/lib/ghostscript/8.64/X11.so
    /usr/lib/X11
    /usr/include/X11
    /var/cache/man/X11R6
    /etc/X11
So I try to get some souce by http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/Releases/7.4
I found its x server is only 1.5.1 and Arch Linux is 1.6.1(show when pacman -S xorg)
    I really confused.
Actually what I need is pretty simple, need a xdm and xdm-configure to enable XDMCP so that I can remote connecct to X.
(I tried KDE and GNOME, it doesn't work because X)
Anybody can give me a clue?
    Thanks very much,
    Mike
