IPod mega frozen

Hello,
Ok well I was on here like 6 months ago (almost to the day) and I had a problem with my 4th gen iPod photo. It locked up while changing songs. When I reset it, it went to the exclamation point thing with the www.apple.com/support/ipod thingy. So I looked up some stuff and decided to drop it from like 3 inches onto a desk. Walla, it worked again. Now it has locked up a couple more time since then and so I would just tap it and it would run again. Now the problem, I was listening to a song when it just froze. Nothing moved, no sound, NOTHING. So I reset it (Menu and select). It goes to the apple sign then to the excalmation point thingy. So I tap it again and nothing happens. Also when I reset it, the hard drive spins up like it is loading, but it doesnt. Also it is making a clicking sound, and when I move it side to side, it makes a humming sound. One more thing is that when I plug it in it wont charge, and when I plug it into my Mac it says that the iPod cant be synced to iTunes. I did some of the diagnostics test and all where fine except the HDSCAN, which would run for a bit then reset. I have read a bunch of the topics on here and I havent found one like this. I dont what to buy a new iPod or try and put in a new hard drive till I know this one is dead. Please help.

see doing the following helps
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
otherwise, Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
Tips
a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Ok...My Ipod is frozen, what next???

My Ipod is frozen. I've tried resetting it. I've tried downloading the updater. I've hooked up to both my computer and USB adapter. I'm out of answers. I only have questions. This Ipod is not that old. It's a 20gb with only 1600 songs on it. What trips me out is that my mini NEVEr gave me any problems.
    So...what do I do now?

Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

If that does not work... try letting the battery fully drain.

  • My iPod is frozen at the start-up logo. How can I fix this?

My iPod is frozen at the start-up screen logo thing, and it just won't continue to the menu.
I've tried restarting it by holding the select button and the menu button, and it restarts but just ends up at the same frozen screen.
    PLEASE HELP
    Regards,

I've actually managed to fix this by unplugging the speakers and turning up the volume for the internal speaker. I found this solution on the following link.

  • IPod touch frozen and itunes cannot detect iPod?

It just began with me connecting my iPod to my mac and a window popping up saying "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly, and you must manuually eject the ipod before each disconnect".I didn't know how to update it again (because my itunes is the lastest version already). You can't even see the contents (music, apps, books) of my ipod on itunes. I forgot to eject it manually today and now my ipod is frozen on the homescreen where all the apps are. Its been frozen for like an hour. I've tried holding the off button but to no avail.Now... my frozen ipod doesn't even show up on itunes. I need help!! (its a pretty old ipod touch with no camera)

Did you try to reset by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, untilt he Apple logo comes back again? If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained in this article:

I have tried the hard reset with no luck.
The problem apperd after that i started a sync from Ipod to PC

What happens when you follow the instruction in the link I provided?
If it still shows the log, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try it again.
If the logo still shows that points to a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 30G Ipod video frozen

I hope someone can help me my ipod has frozen it shows "Do Not Disconnect". The battery is full and the hold padlock is shown in the top left corner. I have tried a reset and nothing happens?
Can somene tell me what I need to do?

Ok, I am useless with the whole ipod thing, but that exact thing happened my within the first week of my new 30g. What I did was let the ipod drain its battery over night and when it was dead, I pluged it into my laptop and it worked ( i.e. wasn't frozen on the "do not disconnect" anymore), but not too well, so in itunes I restored factory settings and then had to start downloading from the beginning (not to bad for me as only a week old and everything still in library)
Would drain it anyway and see how you go

While trying to update the ipod both the itunes and ipod have frozen and I am unable to fix it \. I have restarted the both and let run for 8 hours with no results.

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT1363 my ipod was frozen but now it has an x on the screen. What can i do about that?

my ipod was frozen, but now it has an x on the screen. What can i do about it?

See here: iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon
Note that the fatal red X is often a clear indication that your iPod's HD is shot and in need of replacement. You'll need to take or send your iPod in for repair either through Apple or a third party service.

  • My ipod is frozen

my ipod is frozen on the do not disconnect screen. What can i do? thanks

Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.

  • "this game cannot be launched" and ipod is frozen

Ipod says, "this game cannot be launched" and ipod is frozen.  it is a 160 gig clasic.  any thoughts?

Usually a hard reset takes care of this issue.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
    Any luck there?

  • Help everyone..anyone!  My ipod is frozen and my computer does not detect.

Hi everyone I'm very disappointed to say that my ipod photo has been frozen for the past few days. First off, I accidentally disconnected it while plugged into the computer, and now my computer won't recognize the ipod at all. It says that "the device has malfunctioned" and to make matters worse, my ipod is frozen on the main screen. I tried charging it using my wall charger, but it didn't work. I tried pluging it in using usb but the usb doesnt recognize my ipod either. Somehow when my ipod is connected and i start Itunes..it doesn't work and it doesnt read my ipod photo.
So..Im stuck here and if I can't fix this I'm pretty much done for because I'd have to send it back to Apple.
    Thanks guys.
Oh and I tried restoring the ipod too but everything says that my ipod isn't connected!

    Have a look at these.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
iPod does not appear in iTunes.
Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported.
    Strange iPod behavior.
Try to restore it in disk mode.
