Ipod menus lagging

I have an older 3rd G ipod and it has been giving me some trouble. It hangs for long periods of time. For example, if I turn it on and select a language after a reset it takes about 1.5 minutes before it continues to the next screen. It does the same thing for other menus. I have tried reseting it multiple times and it doesn't help. I have tried to update it but the ipod updater won't recognize it most of the time (and when it does, it freezes if you attempt to update). Any suggestions?

sorry. I should have clarified. I have tried restoring also. Same thing happens.

  • Can you view the iPod menus on your television with the Universal Dock?

I recently bought a decent universal dock knock off for my iPod, but one of my biggest gripes is that I am not able to view my iPod menus screen on my television. Does the Apple Universal Dock give you this ability?

    Hello there,
No, there is no such feature with the universal dock. If you wish to a have a dock with this kind of functionality, maybe check out this one below.

  • IPod Touch Lagging & Crashing

Very often, my iPod touch lags, or crashes frequently. It's been doing it since 1.1.4, and ever since restoring to 2.0, and now updated to 2.0.2, it's still doing it. Sometimes the song skips, the seek slider doesnt work (ill slide it to the middle of the song, but the song keeps playing and the elapsed time just freezes).
So now what? And don't tell me to restore. I have 9500+ songs on iTunes and going to 2.0 was a pain in the ***. Unless theres a way to save on the music on my iPod touch dont even mention it.
    Message was edited by: FledMorphine

I had the same problem on 1.1.4, it hasn't happened again since 2.0 (Of course, I didn't restore from a backup when I went from 1.1.4 to 2.0 to be safe)... Probably an issue with 1.1.4 that carried over in the backup. If that is the case, I have found that restoring the iPod from a hard restore mode (AKA DFU: Sleep for 5 sec, sleep and home for 10 secs, home for about 15) and telling it to setup as a new iPod when it's done restoring (It *****, I know) instead of restoring from a backup can generally fix it, as backups seem to carry over glitches sometimes. Sorry about the restoring and whatnot (They are a real pain, I've had to do it 10 or 11 times before).
Now, if that's not it, it could be that the iPod just can't take that many songs and such. Maybe try eliminating the stuff you don't really listen to that much, the apps that you don't really need, etc. etc.... basically just cut back on the stuff piled onto the iPod.
If neither of those work though, only thing I can think of is a hardware problem, in which case send it in to Apple. I don't particularly like any of those solutions, just my thoughts. Here's hoping that somebody has a better alternative to both...

  • IPod video lag

Problem > my ipod video lags when it plays some movies. when i play music videos(only videos i have on ipod now) some tend to be aprox 1 sec delay. its odd when a singer says somthing and one second later the words follow on my headphones. this only happens to some of my videos (about half) while the other half are perfect. it will happen 100% of the time to those songs so its not a random ipod lag.
Process >i use "imTOO" video converter to get my files to mp4 format and run windows xp. while some videos lag others are fine with none. i tried multiple times to convert files(mpeg, avi) to mp4 with no programs running with still no success. i have also tried updating my ipod with no programs running with no success.
Question > so i was wondering if this has happen to anybody else out there with a gen5 video iPod? if so were you able to fix this problem and how did you do this? is it the program i am using? any help would be great. thanks.

this is the email that i have recieved from the support guy. hope this helps out because i havent tried it.
    Dear user,
Please modify frame rate on the right panel of the main interface to correct it. The default value for this item is "Auto". Please enter a concrete number for it to have a try. You must highlight the file item in the program before modifying anything. I think you can try following numbers: 10, 15, 25, 29.97, 50 and 60. Thank you.

  • 5th Gen. 60 GB iPod Video Lag

My iPod Video (60 GB, 5th Gen.) is lagging badly. Especially the games, although the menus and songs lag sometimes as well. I have never had thisproblem with my mini, but with the Video, this problem has been there since day 1.

    lagging... you could say so.
the second post from an owner not really happy with the new 60gb-version. i've got a few issues with that machine.
the new design might be flash but the fact that this plastic-front can come undone so easily... I donno 'bout that.
F*, it's an ipod. It's meant to be carried around as much as I want it to! Isn't that the purpose? Surely, if I go to work and carry my Ipod in some superheavyduty protection until it's finally placed on my desk to sit and wait until I retreat back home... Likley I won't have problems. I've read a lot of comments from people taking that much care but honestly - it's fairly expensive and for that much you should expect very high quality for every single ipod sold.
Mine functions at random although I've taken care of it reasonably. Apple's latest outcome sometimes seems a bit touchy indeed.

  • My iPod is lagging and draining battery on iOS 7.1/7.1.1

I have a ipod touch 5G and i recently updated to ios 7.1.1 ota and now my battery drain faster , first i have update my iPod on 7.1 via iTunes and now my keyboard lags on 7.1.1 and lags on muitasking bar and little lag on contorl center and slow lanuching apps
On 6.1.3/6 it never did this , also on every iOS 7 verison , my iPod battery percent counter become less accerate
It moving up and down everytime on 6.1.3/6 it never did this

% battery on an iPod is not accurate. Apple does not provide that display. Fluctuatios in % battery are normal with load changes.
    For the lag:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • IPod HD Lag times, this is crazy

I've recently upgraded from a 4GB Silver iPod mini, a HD based iPod and I've never had a problem with the lag times between choosing songs or skipping back/forward through songs.
But over the past 2 weeks of owning my iPod 5G 30GB I've become more and more unhappy with the apparent lag times when just trying to listen to a tune, plus I think I've found a bug in the 5G iPod (which I will list in a seperate topic).
When I select: Artist > Destiny's Child > #1's. The song will start playing, but the lag time between clicking the first track and it playing is around 3-5 seconds, you can hear the HD spin up, and it appears to lag on the Artwork a bit.
But then I clicked Skip 5 times, and counted the time until the iPod would play the track. 10 seconds! No word of a lie, you could hear the little HD click and whirr inside the iPod. It took ages to skip, and another age to bring up the Artwork.
I am hoping that someone can tell me if this is "normal" behaviour for the 5G or if there is a HDD problem here? (Could 30GB 5G owners please try the afore mentioned tested and get back with some times?)
iMac G4 Flat Planel   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Perhaps your problem is Fat32.
Mine is formated HFS+, since I use Macs, I don't
notice lag anywhere near what you guys state.
    Just a thought.
During my time mucking around with this I have noted that the Mac format is much faster! I also find that it takes about 30 seconds for the iMac to recognise the iPod when it's connected to the USB 1.1 port and using FAT32, whereas using HFS+ the connect time is about 5-10 seconds. It appears that OS X likes to see it's native drives a lot faster than FAT32.
I think my times are generally accurate, my tag carrera wristwatch generally keeps time ok.
The reason why I find these times so long is I had a 4GB iPod mini. Whilst the HDD is smaller, it was a lot faster with it's seek times. My little mini is just as fast to skip tracks as a workmates 4GB nano! So coming from a little HDD to a large HDD I don't really expect the lag times. But it appears to be a way of life with the 5G and I can put up with that 'cause I can watch Lost on that little thing.

  • Songs missing from IPOD menus

Hi this is a bit complicated to explain so may take awhile but here goes:
Me and my Boyfrind both share the same computer and Itunes Libary. However one album is causing him problems. The Jimi Hendrix Voodoo child album is synced in Itunes and is on my Ipod and can be accsessed through all of the menu options Albums, artists, songs etc. However on my boyfriends the album or any of the songs cannot be found in any of these menus. The weird thing is that the album Is on his Ipod as songs from the album and diplaying the artwork and album name pop up randomly when in shuffle mode but we cannot not find it in any of the menus so that he can acsess it manually??? We would be gratful for any help anyone could give us in solving this problem.
    30gb vidio Ipod   Windows XP

This is a little confusing. You say your b/f iPod cannot access that album via any of these menus, "Albums, artists, songs etc."
Then you go on to say "The weird thing is that the album Is on his Ipod as songs".
So where are you accessing these songs if not from the artist/album/songs menu?
The best place to start is with this.
It could be that you have inadvertently imported this CD into iTunes as part of a compilation (I believe that JH album is a compilation right?). If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not, although in this case I think it is a copmilation and the CDDB is correct.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't don't show under artist on my iPod.
Also, I would check to see if your b/f ipod has the "compilations" menu turned on. Settings/main menu/compilations/on. This way you can keep that album marked as a comp if you so wish.
If I've misunderstood and it's none of these things, post back.

  • HELPP!!! My iPod is Lagging and Skipping!

As said in the other thread -- I have restored my iPod, and it still is running slow, and long pauses have been happening while the song is playing. While selecting songs, it lags & sometimes freezes. I don't know what to do! It has just started doing this very recently. All songs play perfect in iTunes. I have backed up all of my music so I am willing to do anything to fix my iPod! HELP!

    Evan,
You posted a reply in another topic, have you checked that, I added a response.

  • New iPod classic lags...

Title say it all. When scrolling there is lag. It will pause for a second and then continue. Sometimes it will pause for a few seconds then scroll really fast as if it just received a ton of commands at once. Also when I click to play a song it takes a second to open. Now I know there is something wrong because my iPod mini which is about 6 years old runs smoother than this new iPod I got today. Everything is instant and the movement of my finger on the track pad is replicated exactly with the scrolling on my mini, this is not the case for the classic, at all.
Is this just how the classics are?
Do I have a bad iPod?
Is this what happens in the beginning when they are new and have just synced for the first time?
    Any insight?
    Thanks.

Have you tried these basic troubleshooting steps?
    The Five Rs.
If nothing helps, get it exchanged. I wouldn't be messing about too much with a one day old iPod that doesn't work as it should.

  • Languages: Some song titles do not show up on iPod menus

    Hi,
I have a few Thai CDs that I have uploaded to my iPod. Unfortunately, the song titles that are using Thai script do not show up in the iPod lists (they show as blank). Is there any way to correct this problem short of translating the names to English in iTunes (the Thai names display correctly in iTunes)?
    Thanks,
    Robert

The iPod does not yet support Thai (look at the tech specs). However some people have put together a hack, check here for info:

  • Bug? - trouble with iPod menus

I recently downloaded my first video podcasts, but I'm having some trouble playing them in my iPod. Although they are ok when played in iTunes, they didn't seem to be recognized as video by the iPod - at least when I selected them through the podcast menu (they played as audio with a small imaged on the left). But I just found they play perfectly fine, though, if I select them through the video ("recently added") menu. Weird.
But then under that menu (the "recently added" list under Videos) I got not only videos but also all the recently added songs/audio. Does this happen to everyone? Is it just me, or does this look like a bug?

    Hi 1county,
What sort of trouble are you experiencing?

  • 3G iPhone music (iPod) application lagging.

I am having an iPod application problem.
The iPod application on my 16gig 3G is very VERY slow! Takes forever now to get a play list to load and even longer to get a song to play. Advancing to the next song also is slow as can be.
This all started out of the blue while using OS 3.0. I upgraded to 3.0.1 with no help. I restored the phone with no changes. Anyone else having this issue?

    Jim,
I am humbled, and forever grateful for your answer. I have never previously seen the screen which you referred to (i.e. Repeat/Genius/Shuffle/Scrubber Bar/Playhead). But now realise to get this to display simply tap on the full screen image of the cover art. And yes indeed Shuffle was blue, and therefore switched on.
    Warmest regards,
    Robert
