IPod Mini and Windows Vista RC1

Ok, so I connect my mini to my Vista RC1 machine (FULL PC, not BootCamp), then went to bed. A few minutes later, the mini's screen lights up like I just connected it to the machine, then the main ipod folder opens up like it was set to hard-drive mode. For some reason, the iPod keeps reconnecting to the computer. I can't figure out how to stop it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello pc1971,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried some of the basics such as plugging it into different USB ports on your computer or try a different USB Connector Cable?
Maybe try resetting the device with it connected to your system. To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, and then press and hold the Menu and Select (Center) buttons together for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears.
Otherwise, I would continue working through the recommend troubleshooting steps provided in this Apple support document.

  • Unknown Device ipod Classic and Windows Vista problem??

Help!! My ipod Classic is not being recognized by my computer. I have read the previous articles and tried the solutions but I continue to get the result "Windows has determined that the driver software is up to date" I continue to get the error noise when I plug the USB in and the Device manager continues to say "Unknown Device" It seems others are having this problem, how do I fix this?

I am having the same trouble with mine, and I can say that it isn't iTunes, I plugged my brothers iPod Nano in and it worked like a charm, but when I plugged my iPod Classic 160g in all it says is it is an "unknown divice". It isn't Vista either as the same thing happens on XP Pro as well, so all I can think of is it is a error on the Classic itself. I just wish someone can help out so that I can use my ipod!!!! Come on Apple!!!! Solve this problem!!!!

  • I have a ipod video and windows vista. computer locks up

I have computer that is running windows vista 32-bit. Everytime I use itunes I keep getting error messages and I will get the blue screen and the computer restarts. I have updated to itunes 7.3 and my ipod has software version 1.2.1 on it. Any help? I have been running vista for over 3 months and no issue with any other software just itunes.

I am not on a network. The I have a few usb things that are connected but they are only connected at the time I use them. I have a usb printer, tomtom, and a car computer that connects to the laptop. I only have the printer connected when I am printing, the tomtom is only connected when I am updating software, the car computer when I am tuning my car computer. Every time I connect to the ipod it is the only thing that is connected to the pc. I haven't had a problem with any other hardware/software then entire time until I bought the ipod and installed itunes. All the other software and hardware still doesn't give me any problems when I am printing, updating the tomtom, or tuning my car computer. The only problems are while I am using Itunes.

  • IPod Touch and Windows Vista 64bit

I got a new IPod Touch and when I try to connect it I get a window with this message:
"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"
    Where is the 64-bit version!!!!!!!!

No 64 bit version yet. I got multiple iPod Touch devices for my family for Christmas last month from the Apple store. I asked in the store if they would work with 64 bit Vista and was told yes. The box says Vista. I'm considering trying to get them to take them all back, since all my machines in my house are Vista 64 bit.
To the people that point at the iTunes compatibility list: well, that's not printed on the side of my iPod box, and was told by the Apple guys it would work.
To the people that say 64 bit Vista doesn't work with many programs: Find me one. As all of my companies 383 apps certfied on it, and everything I run at home works just fine.
It's been out OVER a year (XP 64 bit has been around for YEARS). Come on Apple! Give us a 64 bit driver!

  • Using an iPod mini with Windows Vista

I just purchased a computer with Vista. When trying to install my original software from my iPod mini, I got a Windows message that said:
"Don't install this driver software. You should check your manufacturer's website for updated drivr software for your device."
Does Apple have update software I can download? I haven't been able to find it.

First, I should disclose I'm not on Windows, but I'm going to make an educated guess that all you need to do is download iTunes for Windows Vista. That will have any USB drivers in it to connect to the iPod via USB. Let me know if this works. Ref: http://www.apple.com/itunes/

  • Difficulty connecting Mac Mini and Windows Vista laptop

I have a Windows Vista laptop. I have been connecting to the Internet via a wireless DSL router. I just purchased a Mac Mini and want to hardwire the Mac Mini to the router and also create a home newtork where the Mac Mini can transfer files to and from the Vista laptop and vice versa.
What is the best way to do this? Could you please provide detailed information as well? I don't have a lot of experience with computers or networking.
    Thank you!

    Hi Bruce!
What you're wanting to do is very possible and is done often. However, please search Apple's website or Google first or search this forum for answers to your question. They've been asked and answered multiple times.
If you have problems with some of the steps then definitely post back and folks in this forum will be glad to help you get over those hurdles. We're users just like you but our time and efforts aren't unlimited.

  • Windows Vista RC1 + iTunes 7

    Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone knows what i can do with my iTunes. Here's my problem...
I'm using Microsoft Windows Vista RC1 x64. I've installed iTunes and I can use the iPod as an external storage device, as I always could with Windows XP Pro SP2. However, when I add music to the iTunes (from such as a CD that are stored in my Music folder), it "looks" as if it's uploading the song but it isn't.
I have the iPod as manual update, so i drag a track over, and it has the progress bar at the top centre saying "updating ipod, do not disconnect" so that's all well. But once that's finished updating, if i try and search for the track on either iTunes or my iPod, it's nowhere to be seen!
Does anyone have any ideas as to how i could solve this situaion or anything? (Other than restoring my iPod). I just want to really know if iTunes and iPod works with Windows Vista RC1 as i know there are some glitches in some programs running on Vista.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

Ok, uninstalled 7.0, put back 6.0! if anyone has same problem, or any problems with their ipod and itunes and is using 7.0 for god sake use 6.0!! 7.0 is poo! If you can't get access to 6.0, email me: [email protected] ill happily help you out.

  • IPod and Windows Vista

    Hi,
if i connect my iPod to my Windows Vista PC teh CPU usage goes up to 100%. The process svchost take nearly all the processortime.
iTunes and iPod are up to date.
I getting mad about that. With Win XP i don not have these probs.
    Any ideas about that ?
    Greetings Admiral

    I take it that you're a developer.
It is likely that your iPod may not work with Windows Vista (hasn't it still not been properly been released?) - anyway, Try the Microsoft Forums aswell.
    hmmmmm
You don't really need a driver to use a driver to get a Windows XP computer to work with an iPod. Same goes probably for the Windows Vista.
So, try getting the iPod Updater.
Restore & Update your iPod, then try it with iTunes.
Has your iPod been used with any other operating systems? e.g. Windows XP??? or is it just Windows Vista?

On my ipod, the blue "dot" does not show up when a podcast is new, so in a long lists of podcasts, I can't tell which ones I already listened to.
Is there a way to fix this?

  • Window's formatted iPod Mini and an iMac G5

I've read somewhere once before that you can transfer your legally downloaded iTunes songs from your iPod to iTunes on another computer regardless of formatting. I can't seem to find this. I've hit the Sync button but get the message saying that everything in iTunes will erase whatever I have saved in my iPod. I have 235 songs on my iPod and don't want to lose them because the original computer that was used to download them was in Iraq (and probably since destroyed).
Is there anyway to take what's on my Window's Formatted iPod Mini and transfer it to my iMac?

  • WIndows Vista RC1 (No Drivers)

    Well, hey there.
I've just installed Windows Vista RC1 (March 2009). It's pretty recent.
I went ahead and installed my Boot Camp drivers, but lo and behold nothing installed. I figured it was a botched installation, formatted that partition, and started again.
So, I have tried once again and I am having all kinds of problems. For some reason I can't change the brightness of my monitor or keyboard (both are max all the time) and much of my hardware is not recognized. (By 'much' I mean 'all'. I manually installed a wireless driver.)
Vista installs smoothly, I go about installing the BootCamp drivers and the installation window itself says it's installing each component, but the device manager isn't changing at all. Everything remains "Generic" & "Unrecognized".
I just want Vista to play some games so I can blow off some steam & to do some 3ds Max stuff for college.
Why is this simple process of installation so difficult?
This Apple business is becoming very stressful very quickly.
What I want is some regular old drivers for my stuff to work, there's nothing unique about the hardware so why is it so awkward and frustrating & difficult to get drivers? At best, can someone maybe tell me what kinds of hardware would be in the late 2008 MacBook Pro & how do I get my brightness adjustments to work?
And also, why don't Apple just have individual drivers for download: Nearly every other manufacturer & vendor does (Dell, HP, Sony, Lenovo, Acer, etc.. They use third party hardware and drivers too).

I don't have a MacBook series, and in the folder "Apple" are drivers for various devices.
Try to install directly. If not try using Device Manager to update.
And try running system file checker just for good measure
    *sfc /scannow*
and follow that up with hardware check of your boot partition (schedule chkdsk).
Whether you can install Nvidia drivers manually or not, that would help.
And DO create system restore points and backups.

  • Ipod Touch and Windows 7 sync/visibility issues Issues

    Hi All
Just wondering if anyone knows when Apple intend to fix the ongoing problem with Ipod touch and windows 7 sync problems.
I have just got windows 7 64 bit from Vista 64 Bit. I had no problems before the clean install.
Now I have to close my pc down before I attach my pod for sync, when it shows up on itunes it only syncs twenty or so tracks before it "times out" the pc freezes untill i cancel the sync on the ipod and disconnect it.
I have tried like many other people to re-install itunes the latest version 9.02 (i think). I have also ran the diagnsotic check from itunes and that just shows that no Ipod is connected. Itunes itself runs and downloads ok.

  • Ipod mini and ihome clock radio

I've been searching this forum for info on problems using my iHome with my ipod mini, and others seem to be having the same problems, but are assuming it's a glitch with the mini, not the iHome.
I used my mini with my iHome for a few days with no problems. Suddenly, when I docked my mini, it showed nothing but the apple icon, and was frozen. I checked the connection, tried using the mini by itself, still frozen. I followed the mini instructions for resetting, and got it working again. Docked it in the iHome, played 5 seconds of a song, and it froze up again. Reset again, and mini is working fine, but this happens every time I try it in the iHome. Computer recognizes mini just fine, iTunes working ok, battery fine.
Anyone else found a problem with the iHome? I think I've explored all the obvious causes, but let me know if I'm missing something. I'm going to return the iHome and try again with another one, but I'm afraid I might damage my mini! Any suggestions are much appreciated.
