If your battery dies or cannot maintain a charge, Apple’s Service Request process will:
- Replace it for free during the first 6 months of the warranty**
- Replace it for a shipping charge (~$35) after 6 months and prior to the 1-year period **
- Replace it for free if you have the additional AppleCare policy (this extends the warranty to 2 years)**
- Replace it 'anytime' for a $59 charge (was $99 until 7-8-2005)
b This is regardless of where it was legitimately purchased.
i ** See the ‘Battery Test’ link below. This is how Apple determines if the battery is not performing. If the iPod’s battery lasts less than 50% of the ‘up to’ metric, then Apple considers it a problem. For example: This means less than 4 hours for a 1st Gen Mini and less than 9 hours for a 2nd Gen Mini. -- Best to perform this

  • Ipod Mini battery (1st generation)

I bought my Ipod mini in february 2005 and since 4 months the battery no longer works. It has started to turning itself off 1 or 2 minutes after i opened it even when fully charged. I tried to reset it but it would work for a few minutes more. I downloaded the latest software & restored the ipod. But nothing works. What can I do?

Thanks for your answer, but i knew it was a battery problem. How come after a year and a few months, the battery is broken? I heard there might be some probs with the 1 st generation Ipod mini battery. Is that true and will Apple replace it free? even if i'm not on the waranty anymore?

My Ipod Mini battery drains down without any use. Is this normal. My HP Ipaq 4155 battery does not drain down without any usage. Can anyone help me please. Thanks, Jeff

  • IPod mini battery lasts only 1h

I own an iPod mini 4gb which I bought 3 months ago.. From the time i started using it I noticed that its battery life was low compared to the one written on its features (about 6hours).. Now after a full charge if i dont use my ipod for about a day then it wont turn on and if i turn it on right after it is charged then the battery indicator raches its lowest point within 2 mins and it remains there for about an hour and then my iPod runs out of battery.. Dows my iPod has a defective battery? If it does will I get a free repair(incuding shipping costs since i live in cyprus)? Is it a software problem?

  • IPod mini battery replacement

I am in the midst of testing my iPod mini for the battery replacement program. My question is if I qualify for the program, will I be sent a new iPod mini, or the current equivalent, an iPod nano?
Any help at all will be appreciatied!

The information on this page says that your replacement will be functionally equivalent to the original, which suggests that you will be sent another iPod mini. You might get sent one of a different color, and if your original iPod mini is gold, you will definitely get another color.

  • Odd Ipod mini battery

My ipod mini often switches off and says it has low battery and needs to be connected to the power, but when I switch it back on again the battery is half full or more. Can anyone explain why?

Cell oxidation, is the cause of high resistance in Li-ion batteries. It is non-reversible and is the ultimate cause of battery failure, and no amount of charging it will help.
Expect a typical life span of a Li‑ion battery to be one to three years, whether it is used or not.

  • Cant charge ipod mini battery

have a new ipod mini tried to charge it with the usb and there is a battery sign with an ! mark my USB is 2.0 can anyone help

    Here are all the tips:
Not all USB ports charge the iPod the same, or at all...
Especially if your PC USB port is lower powered. Some PC USB ports do not deliver enough power to adequately charge the iPod's battery. The AC charger delivers a full 1 amp charge. Rarely does a PC USB port (particularly in laptops) provide this much charging power. Expect faster charge-up times using an AC adapter. Even a DC car charger may help.
For any PC, but especially laptops, verify via the Windows Device Manager, that the unit DOES NOT cut power to the USB busses as a power saving measure.
Make sure that you actually have a USB port that works and is the
    i high-powered
USB2 variety. Unfortunately, some laptops do not have them at all, and some desktops have them only in the rear. First try connecting to one of the USB ports on the rear of your computer, if possible.
NOTE: Most, if not all, USB ports will not charge the iPod when the PC ‘hibernates’ or is off. In fact, it can further drain your battery.
Here is a helpful Article: iPod's Battery Doesn't Charge
See this link for a good bit of info: The iPod Battery Unplugged..
i A synopsis of it is as follows
"For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter."
b Here is another possible way to obtain a charge
I have not tested this myself, but some reports on these Discussions indicate that it does work:
With the iPod disconnected from the PC, open up "my computer". You will see all the available drives. Now, plug the iPod into the USB port on your computer. As soon as you plug it in, watch the "my computer" window for the external drive (your iPod) to open up. As soon as it does, double click on it. It should remain charging for you (and your iPod will say ‘Do Not Disconnect’). Don't close out of it until you think the charging is complete (about 4 hours). It appears as though, as long as the iPod is communicating with the computer, it is charging.

  • IPod Mini battery dying too quickly

I got an iPod Mini very recently, on September 14, 2005. I read in the User's Manual that it would take about a month for the battery to go from completely charged to completely drained if I didn't use it at all. Well, I charged my iPod fully on Tuesday or so, and by this morning it was 3/4 drained - after no more than 6 days of not being used!
Also, the battery seems to die very quickly when I'm playing music on my iPod. It's supposed to have 18 hours of playback, but after about four hours total, it was very close to being drained. I know the battery metre is approximate, but I doubt it's 14 hours off.
I'm really hoping this isn't normal, because I don't use my iPod that much and I don't want to have to recharge it every week even when it's not being used, or every day when it IS being used.
So my question is...is this normal? Or should I take the iPod back to where I bought it and get it exchanged? Any other advice?

This is ridiclous. A lot of people seem to be having the same problems. I mean as it states 18hrs of playback it should be. I have the same problem and dont even use it much. When fully charged I only get about 4-5 hrs playback. I went back to where I got it and they told me to contact Apple as they dont have any more dealings with you as its between aple and the consumer. I have contacted them now. It also has stopped working for me since yesterday. I knew there was half of the battery left so when I went to turn it on, theres no response from it. The screen stays blank. I also plugged it into PC and its not being recognised on my iTunes. Its powerless and Ive tried all their recommendations but to no avail.

  • IPod mini battery

When I charge my iPod mini, after I let it sit for several days without use the battery will show that it has drained. Is there anyway to correct this problem?

No, I have experienced the same thing before. Just don't worry about it. What generation ipod mini do you have though?

  • Ipod mini battery help!

I have an Ipod mini and I will listen to about two songs and it will tell me that it is out of battery power. But I charge it every night until it say charged and sometimes I leave it over night plugged in. Do I need a new battery? Any help would be great.

I'm actually having a similar problem. I've had my iPod about 3 1/2 months now and lately it's been cutting off, telling me that there's no battery power, even if I've just charged it. I've reset it and it's worked for a minute and then does the same thing. I'll have to try resetting it 2 or 3 times and then the battery will kick back in. But it's been happening for a couple of weeks now. What's the deal? I've noticed it's been doing this since I updated with the 9/23 update.

  • IPod mini battery life

I bought my iPod mini about 2 years ago and im starting to get worried about how much longer the battery is going to last. What is the average life of the battery and do most batteries slowly stop retaining their charge or do they just die one day?

Well i got my ipod mini last november and, about 3/4 months ago it started saying "no power" and shutting off ither soon as i took the power off or after a few songs. My ipod mini is currentlly being warrenty repaired and im waiting to get it back.
But 2 years! you have done pretty well there. how often do you use it? i used mine almost all day every day. pretty much why it got knackered so fast..

  • IPod mini battery discharges in just 3 days. Is this normal?

I left my ipod mini off for 3 days and it was completely discharged. This is a new battery. Its as if it doesnt turn off and discharges the battery while not in use.
    Any ideas? Is this normal?

Yes. Apple has stated that is has experienced a shortable of return boxes due to the higher than expected demand for replacements.  For now just keep waiting as the 10 day return period does not start until you actually receive the box to return the iPod in.

  • Ipod Mini battery - how long?

I have a 2nd gen Ipod mini 4Gb. I estimate that the battery lasts 10 - 12 hrs max with 50% vol and minimal hunting round the menu. I have just got an itrip and despite griffin's statements, it looks like its chewing battery!
How long do you folks get with normal operation and how long with an itrip mini attached?

I have a 2g 4GB mini and the itrip, On a few long car trips I've found that a full battery will last 7-8 hours, beyond that I had to buy a car charger. On about 10+ car trips the battery has lasted into the 7-8 hour range.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPod mini battery bar status not accurate

I just bought an iPod mini but I am not sure if my battery is working properly. When I have fully charged the iPod mini and disconnected from my iBook, the battery status doesn't show full charge. Is something wrong with my battery?

  • IPod Mini Battery Status

my iPod Mini had a full charge this morning and was working fine. i turned it off and when i turned it back on around 2, it said no battery power remains. it seems this problem is occuring with numerous iPods, not just Mini(s). the one thing they all have in common (that i know of so far) is they've all had the latest update. my iPod is no more than a year old, and other people have had them for about half a year or less and are having the same problem. I'm wondering if the update could have given the battery meter in the iPod a false reading or something like that. I'd like to know whats wrong?
