  • Ipod mini keeps turning itself on and playing

    Hi,
Hopin gsomeone can help me here. My iPod mini keeps turning itself on and playing..thus running down the battery overnight. I've checked that the alarm clock is set to OFF. I turn the iPod off, put Lock on the keypad and in the morning, it's turned on and playing. Any ideas for me?
    Thanks!

  • Ipod mini screen has gone dark, and when backlight goes on v

Ipod mini screen has gone dark, and when backlight goes on the centre part with writing etc is almost black with light around edge. will this go? do i need to send it back?

Maybe your backlight is burning out? That's what I would think when the center is black but the edges have light. I'm not sure if a reset would fix the backlight but you can try (hold the menu and center buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo and then release). If I were I'd send it back to Apple but do you know if you are still under warranty? You should be if you've had your iPod less than a year.

  • Ipod mini- 3/4 battery shutting down with "no battery power remaining"

After fully charging my ipod mini, while it still has 3/4 battery on the battery meter in the corner will shut itself down due to "no battery power remaining" if i push the NEXT button too many times in a row. This is a consistant problem and always happens when i have a half battery power or more. I do keep it in Shuffle mode, and i am fully aware that will drain the battery quicker, however there should be no reason a freshly charged ipod with 3/4 battery should not be able to shuffle a few songs without shutting down. Has anyone else ever had this problem or knows of any solution for fixing it? Any help would be appreciated!!

my ipod is doing the same thing...except when I turn it on it will say i have 3/4 battery for only about 10 seconds, then it turns off. All the other forums I have read say to get the battery replaced, but Apple can and usually does send a faulty battery so it might be time for a new ipod.

  • IPod mini problem: just got it and it is already acting up!

    Hi,
i just got another ipod, this time a mini. i've had it for about 2 weeks and it is acting up.
i have the ipod mini(hp version).
the battery is charged and it won't turn on when it is plugged into my computer or in my apple charger + usb 2.0 cord that i bought for it. i did the toggle hold/on, and push menu and select simultaneously trick and it DID NOT WORK!
but i checked to see if it the charger/wire was defective by using my friend's charger with the firewire cord and i got it to turn on, BUT THE BATTERY IS NOT CHARGING.the battery looks about 80% charged. i disconnect to see if the ipod mini will stay one without the charger, the mini turned off and i can't get it back on without plugging it into the firewire + charger. i try to hook it back to my computer, ipod still does not turn on.
i have the latest ipod updater, and the latest itunes.

Apologies, but I find your post confusing. What exactly is your issue here?
Your iPod won't turn either connected to computer/charger or on it's own?
The battery doesn't charge connected to the computer/charger?
Your computer won't recognize the iPod?
May I suggest you start with these.

  • Playing IPOD mini after charging battery

    Afternoon all,
I have just recharged the battery on my IPOD mini on my computer at work and now when I go to play it. The apple sign appears followed by a folder with an explanation mark and www.apple.com/support/ipod
I have gone to the website and followed all instructions. I have even found myself being in disk mode on the ipod, yet still I cannot play anything from the music list.
Could someone tell me whether the computer I am using to charge to battery on needs to have necessary software (i.e. itunes etc.) in order to charge the ipod and all in all, can anyone help me get it working again please?!
    Thanks
    Damoredodno

Sometimes (only) charging your iPod from a USB port causes problems. My suggestion is:
    1) Play your Mini until the battery dies (unless that has already occurred)
    2) Charge it completely from via the wall charger
If it doesn't return to semi-normal after this, your battery may be shot. No, you don't have to have iTunes loaded on a PC to mount (and charge) your Mini as an external USB drive.

  • My ipod mini won't switch on and i cant live without it !

My ipod mini won't switch on. I had been having problems for a few weeks before, transferring song lists to my ipod from the pc, showing the message "attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occured (-36)". I don't know if this had anything to do with my current problem. After un-installing and re-installing the latest version of installer, I went to switch my ipod on a few days ago and all that it showed on the screen was about half of the battery charging icon that usually fills the screen. I switched the ipod off again but when I tried to switch it back on, nothing happened. please help !

    Tried these?

  • IPod mini screen flashes apple on and off..help!

Yesterday, I tried to turn on my iPod mini and the low battery symbol came up, so I plugged it in. When I did, it wouldn't turn on, but instead, the apple keeps flashing on and off every 10 seconds and it won't quit until about 5 mintues has passed. There is also a clicking noise inside, like it is turning itself off and on and trying to restart. Since yesterday, every time I try to plug it in to recharge it, it does this same thing over and over again.
Someone please help . . the answer isn't on the FAQ either!!
    Thanks alot! Leighla

OK. I've gotten my ipod working again. Here is what I did.
I reset my ipod (which didn't do anything)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
And then I put it into hard drive mode (which worked)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
From there my computer recognized it and I restored the factory settings thru ipod updater. My ipod software was current, so I didn't have the option of updating. It works now and I've reloaded all my music back on. I hope it stays in good health.
    Good luck with your issue.

  • Ipod mini hard drive goes crunch and now get Sad face with IPOD

I've notice that after I installed new ITUNES and Updater software, my mini has the following problems:
    1. Click to the song and it just sits there and then it might skip over a the next song or songs before playing, like it is frozen
    2. I hear the hard drive - spinning and hear this crunching sound -
    3. Now I get the sad face with the ipod icon
So would restoring my ipod help or should I take it and get it fixed, and how much would that cost
    Su

    Su,
Is this noise you describe really a crunching noise - like a can being crushed, or more of a rhythmic or repeating clicking noise? It is normal for a drive to amke clicking sounds as it reads and writes to the drive. When this noise becomes rhythmic and repetitive, it can be a problem. If it is indeed a click-click-click type of noise or pattern, it could be that the drive is stuck. This can sometimes be corrected by tapping the iPod's left or right side against your palm firmly. I have revived several iPod mini's this way, and have not had it produce any ill effects. However, do note that you try this at your own risk and only if you are comfortable with the possibility or doing more damage. However, my opinion is that A) The iPod doesn't work right now, so there isn't much to lose, and B) you could save on a costly repair if it DOES work.

  • Switching iPod mini from windows to Mac, and how to transfer music files

Hi all. Brand new mac just getting it setup, an Imac, love it so far. I have an old ipod mini I got a couple years ago, it was setup as a windows mini. Plugged it into my imac and it doesnt do anything. As well, I never used itunes software on my old PC, I was using some kind of software called anapod that allowed me to put music in the ipod mini. I've got like 1200 songs on the mini and want to get that into the mac, plus be able to use the mini with the mac now, the pc is hitting the trash when I get all my old files cleared out of it.
Thanks very much for any help!

Hey, not a dumb ?, in fact a good ?......nope, I did not install any software at all, I just figured the imac would recognize it automatically.
We also got a brand new ipod nano, not the new video one, the older one, it was a back to school promo thing, anyways, I got that one all setup no problem, just plugged it in and was good to go.
So I have to install some software on the mac for the mini?
Been doing more reading, sounds like I might have to erase the memory of the mini somehow, not sure how?? But what about my 1200 songs on the PC, how do I get those over to the mac and into itunes?

  • HELP!! ipod mini has lost its songs and pc wont recognise it

I've turned my ipod mini on today after not using it for a week. I plugged it in to the pc via the usb cable and itunes popped up as usual. My ipod wasn't on the source list and a box appeared saying that itunes didn't recognise my ipod and I had to go to software updater to reset it. There was no frowny face or all the other icons that appear when there's a problem. All the songs and folders I had on the ipod had disappeared even though they were still on itunes. After spending almost 2hrs downloading the new version and updater (dial-up) it still didn't recognise it.
I tried to reset it but got the message "ipod updater...... can't install firmware on connected ipod. The ipod's hardware and the updater firmware are not compatible".
I've done held the menu and select button to restore factory settings etc and its still the same.
It's constantly charging whilst plugged in and nothing I do will get my songs back on the ipod.
It was fine a week ago when I last used it and can't understand where all the gremlins have appeared from. No one else has used it.
    Someone out there please help.

How were you able to plug in your iPod, your iTunes opened because of it but then it says it didn't recognize it? LOL Funny..

  • IPod touch 4g - No sound (Speaker and headphones)

So my Mum drops my iPod into a toilet (long story), and no it will not play music through the speaker, or through the headphones. There is also no little volume bar thing in the "now playing" section, the volume buttons do sweet F.A, and when you press the square button and slide across to the volume bar, there is not cirlce showing me what the volume level is at. I have only ever seen this behaviour when it is plugged into my docking station, and it still plays music through that, so my conclusion is that it thinks there is always something plugged into the docking port. How can I fix this? Or how much will it cost to get fixed? (I have had it less than a month, no insurance, water damage)

Have you tried drying your iPod like specified here:

    Hi All,
Ok, I went to update my IPOD MINI. I placed it in my dock and it erased all the songs on the IPOD. My iTunes still has all the sons. Everytime I try to get it so update, my iTunes freezes and I get a poop up box that says:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "IPOD". Use the iPOD software updater application to restore iPod factory settings."
I tried all this and it keeps happening. Can anyone please help me? Anything you could do would be a tremendous help!
    Thanks in advance,

  • IPod touch 5th generation battery drained and restored after app is closed

I got my iPod Touch 5th generation about a year ago. I noticed it has since had an issue on the battery life that I thought was common so I did not do anything about it.
The issue my iPod has is that whenever I use an app that requires immense energy to function, the battery drains real quick. But after I closed the app, the battery life fills up again like it has only used a little.  Video recording especially drains the battery the most where after 10 minutes of recording, it pops up saying 20% battery left from fully charged and at one point it even shuts down itself. But when it was turned on, the battery life is still around 75%. Before it runs on iOS 8, the issue is more apparent although it still exist now with the latest update.
I did not know until just recently that I found out it is a big issue where I could not have a video recording that can last longer than 10 minutes or so. Is there anything I could do to solve this? Are there anyone else out there that has this sort of issue?

    Hey Leowjowee-
I'm really sorry if I'm about to state the obvious, but have you tried fully resetting the iPod touch and setting it up like it's brand new?
It's a crappy answer, but sometimes these are device specific issues, and other times, it can happen just because the kinks haven't been worked out of a new upgrade. I work in consumer IT, and the first thing I would suggest to a client with this issue (especially after an upgrade from one version of the operating system to another), would be to restore (reset the iPod to factory specs) the iPod touch, set it up like the day I bought it, only with the upgraded operating system, and see if there's still an issue. Sometimes, doing an upgrade like you probably did to get from iOS 7 to iOS 8, where it keeps all your previous settings from the last operating system, can cause bugs in the new code.
    Here's instructions for a reset: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
Keep in mind that this will completely erase any content you have on the iPod touch, so be careful to make sure you have a backup of the device before you do anything. You can back up your device to iCloud or your computer with these instructions:  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977
iOS 8 is brand new, and I'm sure Apple is working out the bugs - but these things happen...

  • Why does my Ipod 2nd Gen lose battery fast and screen wont work?

While on Youtube, my touch screen stopped responding. So, i charged it to full. Then, it still wouldnt work or unlock. So, I restored it. After this, the screen didnt work, and the battery depleats 5X as fast as normal. Hard reseting doesnt work. What happened, what do i do?

You may have some corruption that is now in your backup.  I would restore to factory defaults/new iPod and see if that fixes the problem.  If not I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
