IPod mini coming up with all kinds of errors!

My iPod mini (2nd Gen) was working perfectly fine until a couple of days ago when it refused to be updated and in the end I restored it. However, resorting it seemed to make no difference, the iPod once updated about 72MB of music but after that had an error and stopped. Now when I plug in my iPod I get the this error message:
iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48).
itunes then attempts to sync it anyway, then comes up with the error again.
iTunes then says it is updating the files on my ipod. It updates a certain amount then stops, but no error message comes up. The ipod page says it has 3G of music on it.. but I have 4G of music that should have been put on it. When you click the arrow next to the ipod's name on the menu and click on a play list you can see the names of some songs in there, but not all of them. When I disconnect my ipod and go to play something I find there are no songs on it and no play lists. It still charges fine when it's connected to the computer.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

  • IPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second!

My iPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second. The only thing that stops it is if you press pause but once you press play off it goes again. This means noi music is able to be played because it's always skipping. The menu button works as does the backlight if you hold the menu button down. The enter button works and the touch pad navigation also works. Both skip buttons have no effect on the unstoppable skipping. Can anybody help or at least verify the problem with other users of simular problems and if they were able to fix them simply, without having to go to an Apple dealer (it's out of warrenty i think)Any help would be appreciated.

Every time i try to charge my Ipod5, the charge icon pop on and on every half second, but no charging actually occur.
I tried with all kind of charger, everywhere in the house and the result is always the same.
So as you can see its a pretty big problem as now that my battery is dead, i can't use my ipod anymore.
The ipod is 2 months old.
    Thank you!

I do not know what you mean by charger. Cable? Charging source?
    Not Charge

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Can I use my Ipod Mini A1070 charger with the 4th gen Shuffle?

I have the old Ipod Mini which came with the A1070 charger.  Would this charger be OK with the 4th generation (current) Shuffle?
The connections all fit properly but I was concerned about the compatibility between how much power was going into the device from the AC outlet.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response.  Just got the Shuffle home and the Ipod Mini charger is not compatible.  The connections don't fit.  The connections do fit on my I-Pad charger and I've heard stories going both ways that it will work and it won't work.

  • Does AirPrint work with all kinds of printers with modern usb capability? Does it also work with android based devices?

    Just as the question says

Does AirPrint work with all kinds of printers with moden usb capability.
AirPrint works if you have an AirPrint compatible printer.  See this Apple support document for details on compatible models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If the printer is not AirPrint compatible, it still might be possible to enable printing by installing an App like Print Central on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod.

Does it also work with android based devices?
I would be surprised if it did, but best to ask that question on an Android support forum.

  • The screen on my ipod mini is black with small dots.  It looks like space.  Can I do anything to fix it?

    Hi,
My screen on my ipod mini is black with small dots.  It looks like space.  Does anyone have any suggestions, please?
    Thank you. Cindy

This is an iPod mini, not the iPod nano in your profile info?
If you have not already, try doing a reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
This restarts the iPod.  It is not erased.
If that does not help, the next thing to try would be a Restore (as long as the iPod is still recognized by iTunes when connected.  The Restore button is in the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This DOES erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  If a software problem on the iPod is the cause, a Restore should fix it.
If the screen still has this problem after doing a Restore, it is likely to be a hardware problem on the iPod.

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • Ipod Mini seems dead, with occasional twitches suggesting life

I have an iPod mini 4GB (Second Generation). It has performed without a hitch up until a couple weeks ago. It's usually left plugged in to its AC adaptor, but had been unpowered -- AND unplayed -- for a week. When I went to use it, I couldn't get anything to show up on the screen. I hooked it up to my PBG4, where it opened in iTunes looking absolutely normal, but no joy on the iPod screen itself. I could transfer songs back and forth between the iPod and iTunes on the PBG4. I tried charging on the AC power adapter. I did the "5Rs" (repeatedly). I dumped all the songs off the iPod and did a reset after doing the hold-button shuffle. Every once in a while, when I did the two-finger reset with the Menu and center buttons, I'd be rewarded with a briefly backlit (?) iPod screen, and once, a quickly-appearing-then-fading Apple logo. Other than those ghostly visitations, no joy whatsoever: the iPod still happily shows up in iTunes, but won't operate on it's own a-tall.
SIDEBAR: Can I make a suggestion, please? When the iPod is ACTIVELY showing in iTunes, how about an iTunes-based iPod battery monitor? Because I have no working screen on my iPod, I don't know if it's charged or dead.
I've exhausted every tip I could find on the web, except the one about putting the iPod on a cinder block, and dropping ANOTHER cinder block on it from a height of 6 feet or so.
Can someone help me out here?
    Thanks
    Bart Brown

Well, at least the response in this discussion forum is fully equal to Apple's customer care AND quality control...
On the apparently infinitesimal chance that someone actually reads this post, I'll report the latest manifestation of the semi-deceased 2nd gen iPod Mini (meaning mini-lifespan, I guess): after leaving the little metal corpse unplugged from either adapter or USB port for a few days, I plugged the adapter back in last night. Immediately upon plugging in, a faint, evanescent apple logo mockingly showed itself for a second or two, then faded away like the Cheshire cat's grin, and I swear I could hear Steve Jobs' ghostly voice whispering "Just buy another one, sucker!" I heard that same voice saying the same thing when my PBG4 SuperDrive died untimely, and when my wife's SuperDrive, and then her HD, did the same -- all within the space of two months. You gotta hand it to apple: they've got planned obsolescence down to an exact science. Oh, and "service"? You gotta PAY for that, too, sucker. Don't come looking in a FREE forum for help.
Thanks for your kind help, and have a great iLife.

  • IPod mini only works with car charger!

My iPod mini only works when it is plugged into a car charger. It is 4 months old. It does not work (frozen - no response or display at all) on its own, or plugged into the AC charger, or the USB connection on the computer. I have tried the reset procedure several times and with different power connections with no results. The iPod seems perfectly fine when using a car charger otherwise nothing! Whats going on!!?!?!
    Anyone else with this problem??

    Try to reset it.
Press and hold the MENU and CENTER buttons - at the same time - until you see the Apple logo. This should take about 6 seconds. Also, you want to do this procedure while your iPod is connected to your computer. Ipods are supposed to work with USB port cable and AC Adapters, not only car chargers.
If this doesn't work, then try to update it using iPod Updater software. Open iPod Update, plug in your iPod to your computer and wait until the software recognizes it. Once it does, you should be able to click on the "Update" button. If you can't, click "Restore"

  • IPod Mini cannot Sync with Windows XP

I have a Dimension 4550 (Dell) running with Windows XP w/SP2. In the past when we purchased our iPod Mini, all things ran well. We had a system crash, and when attempting to load back we noted that iTunes now (ver 7+)requires a 500 Mhz; and ours is a 256Mhz. Therefore, I load on from a website an older version of iTunes (ver 4.9)
iTunes loaded on fine, but when we attempt to sync the iPod Mini we get the following message:
The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod’s software.
I do not want to load the new Version, becuase it will not install on our machine due to the MHz matters discussed above. However, if anyone has a way to resolve this matter I welcome your comments. Thanks

The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod’s software.
if you are using an iTunes 4.9, it would also help to have the IPod Updater software installed. here's a link through to that:

  • IPod Mini only mounts with USB

My daughter has 2 minis- Pink & Blue and she uses a G4 1G RAM, OS 10.3.9
She updated Pink using firewire, it synched fine. When she tried to update Blue, it wasn’t recognized.
IPod software is up to date on both. Both fully charged, hold switch off, etc.
I did everything Apple recommends, I reset, I manually put it in disk mode, checked and rechecked cables, all to no avail. I couldn’t restore using the updater as it wouldn’t mount - even in disk mode.
This was only with the Blue mini, the Pink is recognized fine.
After a frustrating hour or so, I was about to just give up and send it for repair when I remembered the USB cable and decided to try that.
It worked! I restored the software, remounted and reinstalled all of her music. I ejected the Blue from the USB and tried to plug it in using the firewire cable.
Nothing. No ipod mounts. Again, the Pink is fine.
So I have 2 minis, one works with Firewire, the other only with USB.
This isn’t a huge problem. But I am wondering why? Has anyone ever had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Norma

  • How can i sycronize my ipod mini 2nd generation with itunes 11.1.5.5.

    Hi,
I found my old ipod mini 2nd generation and I would like to update it
my current version of itunes is 11.1.5.5 and my operating system is windows 7
the original cd doesn´t work anymore.
    can anybody please help?
    Thanks
    Ull

You should definitely not use the very old version of iTunes on that CD.
The latest version of iTunes works fine with my ancient iPod from 2003.  It should work with your iPod mini.  What happens when you connect it to your computer running iTunes?
The latest version of iTunes may hide the sidebar (along left side of window).  If the sidebar is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  If the iPod is working, and there is no problem with the USB docking cable or USB port on the computer, your iPod should appear in the sidebar under DEVICES.
