IPod Mini doesn't appear in iTunes

It seems I'm having a similar problem (but not exact) as some other folks. My iPod Mini (4GB) suddenly stopped showing up on the finder and in iTunes. I checked the support Web Site, and followed the "5 R's". I followed all of the steps, including resetting the iPod, re-installed iTunes and the latest version of iPod Update software, and finally completely restored my iPod to the original settings (thus deleting all of the content on the iPod).
Now, the iPod shows up in the finder, but still doesn't automatically launch iTunes nor show up in iTunes when I launch the application myself. The support section then leads me to believe that I may need to archive and re-install my OS X (10.4) software. I wanted to check here before I took that step to see if anyone had any other ideas, or to see if I was heading down the right path.
For what it's worth, the iPod performs as expected when I hook it into my iMac, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the iPod itself. Finally, my Powerbook (1 GHz) and iMac (G4, 1 GHz) are both running OS X (10.4.3).
Any help or advice that any of you might have would be greatly appreciated. I hope all of you have a great New Year!

This is a little creepy. My daughter's iPod Mini is doing the same thing. We bought it for her a year ago, Christmas. Not only does it not appear, but when I tried to "Restore" it, I get an error message "No iPod Attached". We've had to shut down the iMac to disconnect it (just to be on the cautious side). Is there any way of saving songs before restoring? Thanks!

  • My iPod mini is not appearing in iTunes or windows explorer.

My iPod is not appearing in iTunes or explorer. Only when I go to hardware manager windows admits that there is something that is not installed properly. But when I start the hardware manager and put in the CD, as required by the hardware assistant it says: Hardware couldn’t be installed.
So it is not even possible to reset my iPod, because is not recognized by the iPod Updater. I had to go to another computer to reset the iPod. After that my computer is still not recognizing it. So I installed the latest version of iTunes and Updater, but it doesn’t help. I installed also the latest drivers for my computer, but it did not work. Running the iPod in disc mode doesn’t change anything, too.
The iPod is not listed under disc management so I can’t change the Drive from E to G.
I tried the inactivation of all Microsoft-services according to the protocol from the apple web page, but it did not work, even after installing the latest version of iTunes.
I've read the entire troubleshooting pages on how to fix it.
The message on the iPod mini display is always the same when I connect it: “do not disconnect” and after about 3 seconds “OK to disconnect”. But the iPod is never listed in windows explorer or iTunes. I also reseted it, when it was connected to the computer.
I completely run out ideas and I am about to send it to service.
    Can anyone help?
I use Windows XP on a Fujitsu Siemens 1437G laptop computer.

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

  • My ipod mini doesn't mount in iTunes

    Hi
When I connect my ipod to my pc and launch iTunes, it isn't mounted. The do not disconnect sign is viewed on the ipod mini. I've tried the 4 r's without success and when I tried the restore function the error message "firmware update failure. Disk write error" appeared. The ipod is viewed on my pc as drive E though. Please help or advise.
    Thanks

  • Ipod mini doesn't appear to be recognized by updater

i have been having trouble with my mini. whenever i connect it to my PC, the ipod screen goes directly to ok to disconnect. I have tried the latest updater available but even when i plug in the mini when asked by the popup, the application never seems to acknowledge the mini being plugged in. both the update and restore buttons remain gray with no response from either when i click on them. i have tried resetting (both plugged into the PC and not) also.

  • Ipod touch doesn't appear in itunes (usb).

one morning my computer wouldn't boot.  it was windows xp xp3.
turns out bios is dead and unfortunately destroyed c drive and so i cannot recover windows etc.  fortunately itunes library on another still working drive.
new computer has freshly installed wxp xp3, but i cannot get itunes to see ipod. seperate (non)issue, itunes see library fine.
    no other obvious windows problems.
ipod works fine, windows sees ipod but gives a triple-chime, device manager has yellow !.
ipod is seen by a livelinux on this pc, and it mounts to itunes perfectly fine on my other computers.
windows xp sp3 itunes 10.5.2.11.  not sure of ios on ipod, not yet 5 but otherwise quite recent.
done ts1538. carefully.  including links to other articles.
    no security software.
    help!

this turns out to have been a usb2.0 problem.  although i have (only) usb2.0 ports, windows doesn't advertise it.  i repeatly tried to update the motherboard (asus ku8) drivers with the latest usb drivers but it didn't help.  device manager showed only "open" controllers, not "enhanced".
what did help is using device manager to update the usb host controller;  this seems to have over ridden the manufacturer's motherboard drivers and causes the usb controllers to be seen as 2.0 "enhanced".
for now, this is no longer a problem for me, i was able to get the ipod recognized.

  • Ipod doesn't appear in itunes or on desktop - trouble transfering music

When connecting Ipod, it doesn't appear in itunes or on desktop (Windows). Attempted to fix.
Reinstalled itunes and ipod, also upgraded itunes - no success in fixing.
Restored ipod (through computer)- no success in fixing - and of course, lost all songs in ipod.
Now, ipod sometimes appears in itunes, sometimes doesn't.
I've had a little success transfering songs (albeit, inconsistently) back to ipod from itunes, but sporadically.
    Itunes is working fine when playing songs on computer;
Ipod working fine when playing songs on ipod. It's difficult transferring songs back to ipod. I checked cable and port with other equipment. Cable and port appear to be working. When clicking on Safely Remove Hardware, computer identifies ipod as "drive 0." I need help on how to get my ipod to appear in itunes again and fix the transfering problem?

  • IPod doesn't appear in iTunes

My iPod Touch doesn't appear in ITunes, so of course I can't sync it.
Now, my iPod nano syncs just fine with the same cable and USB connection, so the problem must be with the iPod touch.
When I plug it in, I get that little "chirp" and the battery indicator appears on the screen, but that's it.
Any ideas what's going on?   What should I do?

Try here. The iPod touch (and iPhone and iPad) use different drivers than the Nano.

  • IPod doesn't appear in iTunes and Windows

I have a next problem with connecting nano with Windows:
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes: iTunes 7 diagnostic write that host-controller of bus IEEE 1394 was not found.
Sometimes Windows see the demountable disk, but can't open it. Occasionally, when i charge nano, iTunes gives out the message, that iPod is damaged.
After connecting iPod to the computer, it shows the "Do not disconnect" screen, which not disappear after nano disconnecting. And I need reset iPod everytime after charging.
    Does any help me?

    I read this article.
I can't restore iPod because iPod Updater can't recognize it, when one connect to the computer.
How to solve the problem: as i wrote, iTunes diagnostic informs that can't find the controller IEEE 1394 (WiFi), but I HAVEN'T WiFi card on computer, I use USB 2.0.

  • IPod doesn't appear in iTunes or Device Manager.

My iPod has worked fine, until I plugged it into my computer, and attempted to upgrade to version 1.1.4, now my iPod touch doesn't appear when I plug it into my computer. It doesn't appear in iTunes, or in the device manager, it does however start charging. Also, it has completely wiped the enitire memory (Music, photos, videos etc).
I have tryed the "5 R's", restart, reset etc etc. None of it works. I have tryed re-installing everything (iTune, quicktime, etc) and that doesn't work.
I've tryed hard and soft resets, and I've tryed restarting the Apple Mobile Device thingy.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME
    Pretty please

    I figured it out
You have to put you iPod in recovery mode.
    You do this by...
Turning off your iPod properly (hold the top button in for 6 seconds, slide the slider)
Then you hold the home button, an while your still holding it down, connect to your computer.
Keep holding, keep holding when the apple comes up, keep holdin until you see the 'Like to iTunes' picture.
Then iTunes should say it detects an iPod in recovery mode, an it should happen from there
