IPod Mini earphone jack issues

When I plug in my earphones they work most of the time but every now and again I have to wiggle the connection to get it to work. I think I need a new part to replace the jack. Is it worth getting it replaced? Any idea how much$$ and lastly where could I get it repaired (esp. since it is an iPod Mini by HP)? Please help!

  • IPod Touch Earphone Jack issue

    Hey guys.
I'm currently having a problem with my iPod Touch (1G, firmware 2.1). A few months ago, while I was listening to music with it (with both earphones), suddenly the left earphone "died" without warning. However, if I wiggled the cable around, the sound to the left earpiece came back. I found this very unusual. So I bought another pair of Phillips earphones and tried them, which worked perfectly for a day, before suffering the same fate.
So I continued to use the iPod in this condition. However, two days ago, the right earpiece went dead, and wiggling the cable wasn't much help. Tried another set of headphones, no luck. So in short, now I've got an iPod, without a working earphone jack.
So do you guys reckon I should get my iPod touch serviced, or should I just restore to see if there's any luck?

    Heylo,
Literally last week, my iPod Touch just did exactly the same thing! With the left earphone and everything.. little bit odd.
Anyway, get it serviced. Restoring it won't do much, it's not a software failure. They're usually very understanding, and the guys in the shop told me that it just happens occasionally, there's nothing you can do to stop it really. I took it down to the shop nearby last Wednesday, and I just got my replacement about an hour ago. Hoping to update it to 2.2, as long as it doesn't go wrong..
I found it a interesting that you said another set of headphones worked for a day or so.. I immediately assumed it was the headphones with mine (considering I'd just bought them I wasn't expecting them to go wrong..) so tried 3 other different sets of headphones, each of them doing the same thing. Just take it to get it serviced, they won't mind.
    Hope that helped.

  • 5g ipod nano earphone jack doesn't work, but earphones are OK. Sound of music comes from ipod heard w/o earphone jack plugged in . How, where to fix jack?

6th g ipod nano earphone jack doesn't produce sound with earphones that work on another 6th ipod. fairly loud music sound heard from ipod w/ no earphone plugged in. Hoe and where to get it fixed?

I fixed my nano sound problem. Went to settings, hit center button, scrolled down to reset settings, hit center button, scrolled up to reset and hit center button. Walah,  Now earphone jack delivers sound to ear buds like before. AND yes the jack was always plugged in all the way. Simple problem, simple solution.

  • Anyone have trouble with ipod Nano earphone jacks stop working?

I have had 2 ipod Nano sice 2007 have earphone jacks that have sytopped working. My latest one was purchased in April 2010, and earphone jack stopped working 2 days ago. Anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks!!

I have done some experimenting and testing with my old Classic iPod that uses operating system 3.1.1. I don't think this operating system has changed. However, later generation iPods such as nano, shuffle that use a different operating system seem to work absolutely perfectly in my 2010 Lincoln Navigator, especially the ones without a hard drive (i.e. flash drive). My conclusion is that the Ford SYNC updates have somehow not been backward compatible with the older operating system. I know this can be attributed to Apple for part of the problem but I suspect that Ford somehow did not do enough testing with the older iPod operating systems. Turns out there are probably 7 or more operating systems on iPods and while you would assume that "backward compatibility" is a no-brainer, that seems not to be the case with second party vendors such as Ford SYNC. Personally, I have given up trying to solve this problem and have gone to flash drive and a "line in" option. My old Classic iPod works exceptionally well, plus I have a spare so I can probably use these thing till "H freezes over". Being a older retired American these things may actually last a life time!

  • IPod Mini: Power On Issues

I just purchased a Apple Refurbished iPod Mini (4GB, Silver, 2nd Gen.) I have reset it, used a different cable, restored it on my Mac G4 using iTunes 7.0.2 and I still have the following strange issue:
If the iPod is turned off it will turn back on by pushing the select button. However, if it is turned off for more than 3 minutes, it will only turn on by holding the Menu and the Select buttons down for 6+ seconds. I get the Apple logo and then the iPod starts normally. However, on occasion, one or more of the custom settings is lost. (i.e. Backlight timer, display date in title bar, etc.)
Does this indicate a defective battery, iPod, etc.?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Since the iPod mini is fairly old, a likely cause is a battery that is worn out and no longer able to hold a charge.
Does the iPod operate (connect to iTunes) and sync when connected to the computer?

  • Ipod mini software update issues

I am trying to restore the factory settings on my ipod mini but am running into issues when I go to do the installation and am getting a prompt that says that the volume must run on Mac OS 10.2.8 (or Mac OS 10.3.8) or higher. Do I have to do the restoration via computer running on this version of the Mac OS... how can I get around this?

  • Ipod mini headphone jack

Hey, I have an ipod mini and when I plug any headphone into it it sounds mono. It's almost like the primary track volume has been turned down. Its like if its playing through speakers, one of the speakers is turned off. However when I connect the ipod to any dock that can play it plays fine. It seems the headphone jack has a problem. Any suggestions??

Please re-chck your headphones, if it is fine, then you need to send it for repairing - it is very likely a hardware issue

  • Ipod mini headphone jack connection and click wheel

I currently have a Second Gen. Ipod Mini. It's headphone jack occasionally causes the unit to pause when I have my noise cancelling headphones connected to it. This does not seem to occur with the original headphones. ALso, the click wheel sometimes "spases". For instance, when scolling fast though songs, it somethime stops, then continues very slowly through the rest of the menu. It is kinda annoying. Please help. Thank you.

There is an auto pause feature on the iPod so that when the headphones are disconnected, the iPod pauses. If the jack on the particular headphone you are using doesn't fit correctly, it breaks contact, the iPod "thinks" the headphones are disconnected and so pauses. This may be what you are experiencing, particularly as it doesn't occur with the supplied phones.
I have no idea what "spases" means, but try these.

  • Ipod mini all jacked up

my ipod mini is locked up. It has about 90% of the screen showing a song playing, and 10% with a side bar and some ellipses - like it was trying to go to the menu screen then got hung.
It does not respond to resetting - holding Menu + Play or holding Menu + Select, even after toggling the hold button.
It does not respond when connecting to the computer (Windows compatible). It's just hung up, frozen in it's own little Apple world.
Is there anything else I can do? Otherwise I was just going to wait until the battery died to see if I could reset it then.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you seen this? You would reset with Menu+Select...
    Resetting Your iPod
If that fails to work after several attempts, then your best bet may be, as you say, to let the battery die. Then connect it back up to the charger/computer and reset it.

  • IPod Mini Earphones

This problem has occurred ever since I purchased the Mini iPod about a month or so ago.
I previously had 2 earphones and after a couple of week or so, for each pair, the sound started to crack. This is happening once again. I was just wondering whether it could be something to do with the unit itself or whether Apple have produced quite a few faulty earphones.
    Thanks.

If your iPod is still under warranty, request service from Apple. They wiil send a replacement pair free of charge. If it is out of warranty a new pair cosrs around $17 pr $19 at Apple's web site (I forget which price it is). Also remove your earpads and wipe the speakers grille. It has a magnet in it and something metallic could be sticking to the grille causing you to hear imperfections in the music. I had this happen to mine and cleaning them worked. I guess I am a 'Metal Head'. You can also try to clean the pads with mild soap and water. Hope this works.

  • IPod Touch earphone jack stopped working.

The other day while traveling I was dumping some trash from my car into the trash can and actually dropped my iPod touch in. It was in there for about two minutes before I was able to find it and get it out. After cleaning it I turned it in and it worked fine. I plugged in my earphones and the left ear bud was not playing sound. I have to hold the bottom part of the earphones to the right in order to get sound to work in the left bud. I've checked the liquid indicator and, other than having some dirt on it it, was was white. So is there anything I can do to get the jack on the iPod? The earphones themselves work because I'm using them on my laptop.
    Any help will be appreciated.

I have poked around in it. I'm afraid if I poke anymore I'll screw something up and it will void my warranty.

  • Earphone jack issue

The sound keeps shorting out when I play music or try to talk in earphones with a mic. I've been though about 5 pairs of earphones in the past week or so trying to solve this issue, but now I'm pretty sure that the problem has to do with the plug or the hardware itself rather than the earphones. Sometimes when I plug in the earphones the music plays fine initially, but then the slightest twitch of the cord or movement shorts out the sound. Like I said, at first it I thought this was an issue with the earphones, but I've been through 5 or so pairs recently and the same issue persists with each new pair. Also, when I plug earphones in, sometimes the sound doesn't come through and I have to jimmy with the plug to get it to come through the earphones.
    Help!
    Any suggestions?

        Happy Monday mbnick,
Music makes the world go around. I know how important it is to hear the peaceful serenity of your music while on the go. It will be my pleasure to assist in getting your earphones working for you. May I ask is there any physical or liquid damage on the Droid Razr? The suggestion that tikibar1 gave is a great one. I suggest cleaning the port with a dry q-tip, if possible then retest. If that doesn't resolve the issue then try playing the music on speakerphone then plug the earphones in to see if the device recognize the earphones. If more assistance is needed then please advise as I'm here to help.
    Thank you...

  • IPod Mini Serial Number Issue

    Kyle,
Thanks for your help. I will check the Hp website for warranty information for her iPod.
I keep my iBook set to never go to sleep when it's on the power adapter (I regularly charge my iPod overnight on it, and always use the power adapter when charging).
I reset her iPod and it seems to have solved the charging problem. It may have been an indicator problem — I saw some posts about that. I am having my daughter listen to her iPod all day today and see how long the battery lasts.
    Your post was very helpful!

  • Connect Ipod mini to car stereo

I have just bought a new car (ford Fiesta) that has an aux socket for an ipod/mp3. Where and what cable to i need to get to connect my ipod mini to this.

In case the iPod cable does not work, try one of the following :-

  • IPod Earphone Jack

Hey, I have had my Video iPod for about one year now, and now, the damned earphone jack is messed up I guess. My earphones will only work when strategically positioned, and any movement will mess it up. I am also pretty sure its not my ear phones. What can I do to fix it? thanx

the same thing happened to me and it really bothers me. The thing i do is that i have to have the plug be almost in but not quite and hold it there with a rubber band. The sound quality isn't worsened that bad so i'm fine with that. I was hoping that some apple people could fix it but mine broke a week after the one year warranty expired. I really don't want to open it, i would surely break it completely. But oh well, i guess "i" just have to back up my files and buy a new ipod classic.
