Ipod mini flashes Do Not Disconnect forever

It will work when disconnected, but when you attach to computer it just flashes do not disconnect. I've reset it, I've restored it so there's nothing even on it, but plug it is and that's what it will say until you just take it off anyway. The computer says it's updated - Please help!

If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

iPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even though iTunes says "Update is Complete" and even when set to automatic update. It mounts both in iTunes and on the Desktop.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have alredy tried rebooting both the iPod and computer.
    Thanks.

    Patrick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Sounds like you've got Disk Use enabled. Try unchecking the Box "Enable Disk Use" under iTunes>Preferences>iPod Tab.

  • IPOD *ALWAYS* flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT

IPOD ALWAYS flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT when connected to my computer. How do I fix that??

Personally I would, from the information you have given, reset my iPod and/or restore it and then try it again. If this still happens repeat the process but re-install iTunes and QT.
I know this is not a quick resolve but, personally, these things must be done before doing much else since it could be a number of reasons this could be happening - try the more obvious approach first (if you haven't already). If this still does not work then I will not be able to help, there are others here that certainly know more than I do - failing that visit an Apple Store if possible since I would have a guess at stating its more an iPod problem than the software on your computer.

  • Continously flashing "Do Not Disconnect"

Many times that I try to connect my iPod, the computer will not recognize that it is connected but the "Do Not Disconnect" screen will keep flashing and never stops, I looked for help on this topic, and it told me to unplug it, and reboot it, I did what it said, and my iPod was fine. Again, I tried to transfer my new music onto my iPod and it did the same thing, is there any way that I can stop my iPod from flashing "Do Not Disconnect" continually and just transfer my music?

  • IPod flashing "Do Not Disconnect"

My 30GB ipod has been flashing "Do Not Disconnect", with a red crossed-out circle. I placed it in my dock at lunch today to recharge it, and I just retunred home to see it flashing. Itunes says the sync is complete and all software is up to date. I recharged my brother's ipod last night, and everything was normal. Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
The "Do Not Disconnect" screen will continue to stay displayed on your iPod, simply because you have Disk Use enabled (when automatically syncing iPod with iTunes).
If you are automatically syncing songs to your iPod, then disable disk use.

  • Ipod mini 1st Gen not seen by iMac or iTunes

    Hi,
I've looked through the other threats and reviewed and checked the advise given such as check the USB port; Done - iPhone & iPad work fine with th same port and cable. the iPod mini just flashes 'Do not disconnect' its fully charged and plays my music fine through a number of devices.
I cannot get the iPod mini to be seen by the iMac on 10.7.2 or on iTunes 10. I dont have access to a firewire cable and reluctanted to buy one on the chance that may not work either.
First question is the iPod mini on version 1.4.1 able to link with iMac and iTunes 10 and if so how? Thanks
    Stephen

I'm having the exact same problem, have tried everything listed on this page and the device manager steps. Nothing extra comes up when I click on "show hidden devices" the exact same listings are still there. And there is nothing indicating an ipod mini in the USB section in device manager or "unknown device" or anything.
The other user said "thank you yes have tried this and message is as follows: windows cannot start this device because its configuration information (in registry) is incomplete or damaged (code19)" - but nothing like that is coming up on mine. None of the R's make anything different. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone give me a hand?

  • Flashing do not disconnect symbol

i plugged my ipod into the usb (regular, not 2.0) and it just keeps flashing "do not disconnect" with the red symbol. it appears the ipod got charged. nothing happens when i hit menu, or any other button. when i go to the button on bottom of screen it just says "apple ipod usb device cannot be stopped right now. try stopping it later" ok hopefully someone can helpme (please?)

    Hi coffeandtimbits,
    Let's try resetting your iPod:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times. (leave it on the white side of the switch, which is the Off position)
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
After your iPod displays the Apple logo as it resets, it should display the normal main menu for a couple seconds, then flash back to "Do Not Disconnect".
Open up iTunes, and see if it syncs from there. If it does, then, when the sync is complete, click on the little arrow next to your iPod's name in the Source List (the left display panel) of iTunes.
Hopefully, at this point, your iPod will safely eject, and show the Main Menu screen. It is does this, then it should be fine to unplug it from your computer.
If your iPod isn't recognized in iTunes, or you can't successfully eject it from there, then this is probably the best thing you can do to safely disconnect your iPod (withOUT unplugging it when it says not to):
Close all applications that are running on this user account, and other user accounts on your computer, as well.
Then, turn off your computer (with your iPod still connected).
After the computer has fully shut down itself (the HD quits spinning, etc), unplug your iPod from your computer.

  • Flashing 'Do Not Disconnect' screen stays on indefinitely

Flashing 'Do Not Disconnect' screen stays on indefinitely when connected to computer. What should I do?

If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. There is also an iPod 'eject' icon in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • IPod stuck in "do not disconnect" and NOT recognized by iTunes

I updated to 7.1.1.... and my iPod is not stuck in "do Not disconnect" and not recognized by iTunes.
I have tried the Toshiba "Safely Remove Hardware" -- and selecting the iPOD -- but, notice comes back "cannot disconnect now because a program is accessing the device."
Anyone know where I can go from here??? Thanks very much.

when i connect my iPod to the computer, it shows "do not disconnect"
but after im done updating my iPod, it suppose to show "ok to disconnect", but all it does is flashing the stop sign and telling me "do not disconnect".
it only stops when i disconnect it from the computer...
    .help needed......thanks

''does it mean that i can't use my ipod as a hard disk if i uncheck "enable disk use" ?''
Yes. You must have the box checked to use iPod as a hard disk, and always unmount/eject iPod before unplugging it.
'' don't like to update my ipod because the process restores everything in my ipod''
If you choose to restore the iPod, all data is lost, but just by updating the iPod, all of your data stays on the iPod.
Make sure you have the latest iPod Updater

  • Ipod continuiously shows "Do Not Disconnect"

My ipod video continuously shows the "Do Not Disconnect" icon for long periods of time, and doesn't change.
I don't know how to tell if the ipod shows up in the My Computer folder, but I know it's not connected to the computer, because when I tried to restore it with the ipod Updater, I got a message saying "Cant mount Ipod" or something like that.
Is there a way to fix my Ipod without sending it in to be fixed? I dont know what else to do.

Is there a way to fix my Ipod without sending it in
to be fixed? I dont know what else to do.
I had horrible frustration getting my ipod firmware updated and filled from itunes. I sent back one ipod to service and the new one they sent me had even more problems working with my computer. I don't think sending it back is the solution for most of us.
The amount of information here in support can be overwhelming...especially for someone new to Windows computers. Who wants to mess with their MsConfig?
I did keep reading and working to fix mine.
The solution for me was just to disconnect from the Internet and turn off all my virus scanning, firewall and privacy software.
After I did that, I clicked on the ipod updater and it asked me to plug in the ipod. I first got a disk error message and tried it one more time... then it went to finish and I was able to open itunes and download all the music, etc to my ipod.
If you get disk error, try again. Don't give up!
Don't forget to restart all your virus/scam protection software and reconnect to the internet. I suspect I'll have to go through this process for every update and itunes connection with my computer.

  • Flashing do not disconnect

my ipod was critically dead for about a month.
one day i decided to hold the menu and select button and then plug it in to my computer.
Suddenly, a "Do not Disconnect" screen came on that flashed with a black cross out thing.
and it looks like it is charging now, but i dont know how to get the screen to go off and my ipod to get on.
it is a 160gb ipod classic.

    Try resetting the iPod again.
