IPOD MINI FROZEN WHILE CHARGING, PLUG WON'T UNPLUG

Hi, I have an ipod mini that is frozen. I was charging it on a laptop w/out any apple ipod software installed, (does that make a difference?). When I woke up, it looked frozen and non responsive. I then hooked it up to my software installed computer, and it was not recognized. Also the plug does not disconnect from the unit. Help. Paula

Let's clear up a misunderstanding here first of all.
The iPod software is not "installed" on a computer, it's installed on the iPod. See my previous post on how to install the software to the iPod. Sure, the iPod updater is installed to the computer, but this is only a program that installs the software to the iPod.
You can connect an iPod that has the software installed on it to any computer, the only thing that computer would need to work correctly with the iPod is to have iTunes installed on it.
Have you tried resetting the iPod? It may take several attempts.

I just read in fine print in an obscure part of support site that only the ipod mini can be charged with the "supplied" cable? Is this true? No, come on really? But, I...I,I,I just paid 500 clams for the top of the line shiznit and it doesn't come with any kind of charger? Is apple gonna send me back to the store? No way,I thought apple was down for the little guy...I gotta go buy an A/C charger? 30 more duckets?

your ipod doesnt need a power ac cable. Every time you connect ur ipod to your pc, it should start charging the batterie auto matically. Just leave your pc on all night long with the ipod connected, and in the morning your good to go!

ITunes doesnt recognize iPod mini, which only charges

I just bought my iPod mini 2 days ago and still can't figure this out. Everything seems to be going ok--iTunes is working fine and I can upload music, but it won't transfer into the ipod. I believe in the Source list (in iTunes) there should be an ipod symbol? But there is none. When I connect the ipod to the computer, it only charges. I've tried resetting the ipod, restarting the computer, deleting the software and downloading it again, and nothing. I've tried updating it and it says "Plug in an iPod to update it, which I do, but nothing happens.
Any help would be a LIFESAVER, as I am extremely frustrated by this and am about ready to punch a wall here.

Thanks for your advice... The problem is that iPod doesn't appear in iTunes, so I clicked on the link and followed the instructions for putting the iPod into disc mode so I can reset it. I got as far as (see the picture of the checkmark) to the part where it says 'Disconnect iPod from the power adapter and connect it to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"' I did that and nothing happened. My iPod still says "OK to disconnect."
So I haven't the faintest idea what's wrong. I checked the system requirements again, and I believe that my computer meets all of them. Guess I'm at another dead end.
Should I just try to get all this iPod stuff--the cd, cable, everything, replaced? Hopefully by doing so, that might solve whatever the problem is?

IPod mini "frozen"?

So today I was on my merry way to school, simply updating my mini when it just... stopped. This has never happened before, in fact, I have never had problems with my mini. It stopped on the usual "Do not disconnect." screen, so I waited a few minutes to see if it was simply finishing up or disconnecting... in iTunes, it was no longer updating. So I press the eject button, it ejects successfully on my computer, but it is still on the "Do not disconnect." screen. I unplugged it from the computer, and it does not change. I can't turn it off or anything. Help?
Oh, and when I plug it back in, Windows says that it has malfunctioned and to try resetting my computer... which I have done. And nothing is helping. Thanks in advance!

I saw several posts on this topic, and followed the advice given. I've tried to reset the ipod by toggling the hold switch and then holding down the menu and select button at the same time (at least 20x's, and being careful to only hold down the correct buttons). Not having luck with resetting, I tried to do a restore, however when I start to run the ipod updater, and it asks me to connect the ipod, the updater doesn't recognize it.
It's frozen in the pause position at the start of a song and nothing I do helps! Although it's still under warranty I really don't want to have to send it in to apple, so I sure hope someone can help me.

i have called apple and talked to a tech. he said my windows program needed to update to xp2, i did. i then had to reinstall the disc. it was in disc mode. i followed the comands and it said to plug in ipod to update, i did. no dice, didnt recognize hardware. said i needed to try a new usb port. tried all six. said maybe need new cable, i plugged in a new one. no dice. my daughter got her ipod the exact same day i did, same computer same cables same everything. hers works mine doesnt. hearing that even a new ipod didnt work for u makes me not too confident in the ipod mini as a whole. i really want it back. my daughter and i have been sharing hers and she wants me to have mine back!!! HELP APPLE!!! the tech said if it doesnt work i should send it in and gave me the info to mail it. the website he gave me hasnt got any info on requesting a mailing box and warranty service. i only have about two months left on my warranty and i hate to think they are stalling me until it expires. please apple, call me and tell me this isnt true!!!!

Ipod minis FROZEN! HELP!

Hi, I was listening to music on my ipod (4 gb) and i turned it down for about 2 minutes then when i went to turn it back up, nothing happened! it's completely frozen and it doesnt respond when i press the buttons or plug it into the computer!...Its never been dropped and it's fairly new. Help!

My Ipod Mini too has just recently completely locked up. The screen remains locked at the same thing with no music playing and no apparent response to any keys. Yes I've tried soft reset by holding the select and menu buttons many times (and I know how it should work) It too will not connect to my computer in any way (computer doesn't know it's there mini remains locked. Yes I've tried Itunes, Ipod Updater, and of course windows it's not connecting. I will try letting the battery run down but for now what can I do! I think I'll see what the people at my Apple store say Friday.
Edit: What would be good ways to accelerate discharging with out being able to actually give the mini new commands? Would connecting it to a powered down computer possibly help?

My girlfriends iPod mini has frozen. Apparently it displays a website address on the screen. anyone have any ideas?

Try a reset.
Press and hold the MENU + CENTER buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. This is best done when her iPod is connected to a computer and it might take more than 1 try.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

IPod Mini Freezes while transferring music

Hey all...
When transferring tracks from iTunes to my iPod Mini, iTunes seems to freeze after / during track #3 song transfer.
I've reset, restored, upgraded, done everything i've been reading.
I've even done a full MP3 libary scan for any corrupt mp3's, and have removed all 'suspicious' mp3s... with no improvemnt.
There is nothing wrong with the iPod being recognized by Itunes on my G4 Powerbook...
It just freezes...
No explanation.
Just freezes.
Any suggestions?

I am having a similar problem, as a lot of people appear to be. Those steps have not yet helped me. I'm trying again just in case.
I hope Apple fixes this problem, it appears to be widespread since the latest iPod and OS X updates, or maybe security updates or something.

I have bought an IPod shuffle 4th gen and it won't come up in Itunes and it won't turn on, in Itunes it just had a red light and when I unplugg it, no light at all.

Did it previously work with your computer and iTunes? Or is this brand new, never previously connected to your computer?
You can try this procedure to reset the iPod shuffle

Then, shut down your computer (power off) and start it up, with iPod shuffle NOT connected. Run iTunes. Then, try connecting the iPod shuffle again.
If that iPod is less than one year old, it is under warranty. You can contact Apple (or make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar) to see about getting it replaced (if it's broken).

IPod mini frozen at apple

When I tried to start my iPod mini this afernoon,I got stucked on the apple! I tried to put my iPod in disk mode,but it doesn't work!! He doesn't show the "Disk Mode screen" What should I do? I really need some help!

I tried this already a few times:
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
The disk mode scren doesn't appear. (how long do I have to hold Menu and Select?)
The screen freezes again at the apple.
What should I do now?

IPOD min frozen fol use with ITRIP

Left my Itrip on my mini and now can not play mt mini unless it's through the computer (windows). Have tried a reset but to no avail.. Any suggestions out there

I am having a similar problem - I just purchased a pioneer DEH-P690UB indash car stereo, but I can not get the radio to recognize my iPod mini (N/A USB). The installar has a newer iPod, which worked when he tested the system, so I have been looking for the new firmware to see if that will help.
Can anyone direct me to the firm ware downloads?

sometimes i see the picture, showing how much it has charged, sometimes no.

My guess is that you're using a computer's USB port that does not put out enough current. It's likely charging but extremely slowly. Your best bet is to invest in an Apple wall-mount charger.
