IPod Mini is Dead and will not charge or respond

My daughter has a 4GB second generation iPod Mini. It has worked fine, other than a few freeze ups every now and then, for several years. Yesterday it stopped working altogether. We have tried charging overnight with the AC charger but still there is no sign of life. Her iMac does not recognize it and we cannot get it to turn on. There is no charging icon when it is plugged in. It appears to be totally dead. Prior to this the battery still had reasonable running life. She would get about 6 to 8 hours of playback time per charge.
We have tried toggling the "hold" button. Nothing seems to work. I would appreciate any ideas.

I got tied up and forgot to respond to the earlier post. The iPod Mini is back in working order. While I had tried a reset procedure before and got no where, I tried it again. Finally on the third attempt the "apple" logo appeared and all was well. Since I had not gotten any response from the Mini the first time I tried a reset, I assumed that the resetting procedure would not work. So a good lesson to this is to attempt re-setting several times if it does not work the first time.
Thanks to all that took the time to contribute.

  • My iPod shuffle (4th generation) battery is dead and will note charge.  It is one year old and has been charged about 4 times.

I tried charging it last night.  The shuffle got very warm and did not charge.  The indicator light was not on.  I just tried hooking it up to the computer with iTunes running and it has been plugged in for 3 hours.  It is cool to the touch this time.

The standard warranty is for one year from date of purchase.  So, if there is a hardware fault, you may want to have it checked under warranty.  If there is a nearby Apple Store, you can do so with an Apple tech support person at the Genius Bar.  To make a reservation, use the store's web page

  • IPod turns off as soon as I unplug it and will not charge or respond.

I've had trouble charging my iPod, as in it won't charge whether hooked up to a wall socket or to a usb, I've tried changing both usb slots and sockets to no avail and tried resetting repeatedly.
Now it works fine while plugged into a socket (not when plugged into the computer) but the instant I unplug it it switches off and will not respond, unable to reset it or turn it on or anything, I've left it on charge for a long time and also tried to drain the battery totally and then charge it, neither of these had any effect.

Sounds like a defective battery or something wrong with the charge circuitry inside the iPod. In either case, if this is an iPod Classic, it is under warranty and should be returned to Apple for repair or replacement.

  • My iphone 4s is dead and will not charge at all. But keeps blinking the battary sign and the lighting bolt and charger but wont work. WHAT DO I DO!!!

Please help.. My phone will not charge what so ever! and i plugged it into about 5 different chargers that do work on other devices. Ive cleaned with alcohol, and held the home button and top button for 20-30 sec. but still nothing. What should i do!!!

sounds like the battery has reached the end of its life.  Bring the phone to Apple for battery diagnostics and possible battery replacement.

  • TS1363 ipod shuffle is hot and will not charge

Has anyone heard of a battery issue with the 4g shuffle?   My shuffle will not respond and is "hot" to the touch.  It does not respond, cannot be seen by my computer or itunes.  I have had several ipods and never had an issue like this.  I have had this shuffle 3 months.  I have tried all the recommendations for resetting with no effect.
    Thanks for your help

Since the Shuffle is only 3 months old, I would recommend taking the iPod to your local Apple Store's Genius Bar and showing them what is going on. If they deem the problem a manufacturing defect (which they more than likely will) they'll swap it out for you at no cost.

  • My daughter's ipod just went dead and will not come back on

My daughter was listening to her ipod touch (purchased last Fall) when it suddenly went dead.  Any attempts to try and charge it or connect it to itunes has been unsuccessful.  Any ideas what we could do, other than purchase a new one?
    Thanks!

    Hello Evasic
Try different power sources, like a wall adapter or another computer and make sure that the computer is not asleep. Check out the article below for additional troubleshooting options to get it powered back on.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Have you tried resetting the dock by removing it from power?  What about resetting the iPod Touch? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

can i put it into disk mode if the computer doesnt recognise it at all?
    Yes, you can.
"Putting your iPod into disk mode" is simply a process that involves pressing a few buttons on your iPod, getting it into Disk Mode.
To put your iPod into Disk Mode, follow the steps in this article -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
As Bryan said, see if the iPod is recognized by your computer when it's in disk mode.

my ipod touch go of and will not work untill i plug it back in to a ac power

You likely have a hardware problem like a dead battery.  To rule out a software problem try the following in order:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My iPhone 4 has just shut down.  Rang the phone then vibrated for 2 minutes bank screen, will not turn on, also tried charging and will not charge.  Any suggestions

my iPhone 4 has just shut down.  Rang the phone then vibrated for 2 minutes bank screen, will not turn on, also tried charging and will not charge.  Any suggestions?  I did download a ringtone app and went on to iTunes to sync!.

Try charging the iPhone via a wall socket for at least 30 minutes then try a reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.  Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.
