Ipod Mini - Mainboard - SMD Chip Q10 ? what is it ? damaged when reassmblng

When re-assembling my Ipod Mini , 2nd Gen , 4Gb , I damaged the 6-pin chip Q10 which mounts on the back of the main board near the bottom . I'd like to try to find out what it is in order to try to replace it . It's a Surface Mount Device or SMD . Thanks for any responses .

I've come to the realisation that this discussion group is for the use of Ipods that are in working condition , and not for the repair of Ipods . Sorry to have bothered you .

  • Ipod mini is dead... what should i do now??

my ipod mini (1st gen got it as soon as it came out so its been ~3 years) gave me the sad face today at the gym and i think its dead. i tried connecting back into dock and it still has sad face and did hard reboot and still sad face. when i connect to my comp, it goes into recharge mode but its stuck at the first part of the recharge mode so it looks frozen and then switches between that and sad face. the hdd is also making loud noises that ive never heard before. i see there are replacement harddrives you can buy for it but will that work? i just replace the hdd and load the ipod firmware? the hdd are like $120 though! and the cheapest nano is like $150. should i try to replace hdd to 8gb or get the new 2gb nano? i was already planning on getting one of the regular 30gb ipods but i need something to work out with and i thought the regular ones might be kinda bulky on my arm to work out with? also as i said, i want to buy a regular 30gb ipod. i am impatient and need music asap and there are these vending machines at my school student center that dispense ipods. should i use this? if i ordered from apple.com it would take several days but i feel kinda weary of buying a $250 item from a vending machine. anyone ever done this?

  • IPOD Mini is not recognized by my PC

    Help!
I can't restore/update my Ipod Mini because my PC won't recognize it.
When I reset the Ipod I get a folder/! or an Apple symbol - nothing more.
The computer seems to be able to charge the Ipod, but doesn't recognize it - doesn't start Itunes, shows no icons, etc.
And I can't get it to go into disk mode.
    Help! Anyone know any tricks?

Hi I'm writing on behalf of my teenage son as I've taken over his cause....He bought his ipod in Florida in July (we live in the UK) but like yours it isn't recognised. We've been on the troubleshoot web page, bought a Fire wire cable to give it an extra boost and rung the UK support line. They said the answer would be using a 2.0 USB port. Ha ha! we've got Windows XP with all singing all dancing 2.0 USB ports...so that was useless. I've just rung them again and got the web address to send it back and after much messing about I think it rejected my request as it has a US id no.Does anybody out there know what I can do? The store wont take it back as there was only a 30 day return policy but the ipod has a years warrenty.........Any ideas???

  • Ipod mini battery dead?????

My ipod mini refuses to turn on or be recognised by my PC, the screen displays a battery sign next to an exclamation mark......what does this mean???
    ipod mini   Windows XP

    Is this what you see?
Means the battery needs charging. Leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes.
If it is still there, read this -> http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60941

  • 'Music' tab not appearing on iPod mini

At first I thought all my songs were gone from my ipod mini, since the 'music' tab wasn't there, but when I pressed play/pause, the songs began to play. They're in itunes as well; I just can't navigate through my songs on my ipod. What's wrong?

    Try this;
Go to SETTINGS > MAIN MENU > MUSIC and set it to ON. Then, hit the MENU button several times to get back to the main menu & see if it's there.
You can control what appears in the main menu in this settings menu. Apparently, your ;music' option has been turned off.
    Cheers!

    My iPod is sad.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
Also, there is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • IPod Mini sound/volume is as soft as a mouse now

    PLEASE HELP!
I have just got a replacement set of earphones sent to me by apple because the original one just stopped working all of the sudden. I noticed that my iPod mini's sound/volume is about 50% softer than when I originaly got it. I've tried using euPOD and goPOD and also the slider trick but it still doesn't take the volume back to the good old days. I know that it is probably because of the stupid new 26-03-2006 update with the volume limit on it, but i've also tried restoring the iPOD but to no avail either. I've tried everything already and nothing has worked. Does anybody know how I can get around this or I'll just have to throw my Mini in the trash and never buy anything from apple again! I also noticed that the volume slider doesn't actualy change the volume loudness until it gets past halfway.....so it doesn't actualy get softer or louder until I'm about halfway thru. I can't see why apple would want to implement such a ridiculous limit on what was essentialy a very good product.

    Gary,
There is a lot I don't know yet, but I definitely managed to raise the volume by cutting off the sound check and the equalizer when importing new stuff. As a test, I can now hear the words in an audiobook, although the volume is still on maximum for my iPod and car tape player. Unfortunately the old stuff still sounds too faint. (Is this iPod actually updating?)
There is a problem with my car tape player. I haven't bought a head cleaning kit yet, but plan to do so. I connected an FM transmitter and tested the sound -- it was a lot louder. (In my area, I cannot use an FM transmitter in the city because of FM interference. No empty stations. So I either need earphones or to make the tape player work. Or a new car
I don't know yet whether it's the Sound Check or Equalizer that makes the difference. I don't think I ever used Sound Enhancer.
You can raise the volume by selecting songs, going to "Get Info" and resetting the volume bar. This seems to make it louder on the Mac speakers. I cannot tell that anything is getting through to the iPod -- I simply don't hear it yet.
I don't know yet if importing when using Sound Check does anything permanent to the volume of the song. I hope not.

  • IPod mini broken...how can I fix it?!?!

    Hi there,
Can anyone give me some advice on how to solve my iPod mini problem (and yes, I have followed the support instructions to ABSOLUTELY NO AVAIL).
My iPod mini always says I have no battery left, even when I have just charged it overnight. Now I have plugged it in, it is still saying the same message, and it will not let me drain the battery to reset it. It also does not recognised (i.e. light up) when I have plugged it in.
This is just the last straw in my absolute frustration with iPod, I have had the player for just over a year, and it seems that the shoddy manufacturing means your iPod will break just after a year, meaning you have to buy a new one. Well sorry, but I'm a poor student, and can't afford a new iPod. Is apple going to help??
Failing that, I appeal to fellow iPod users who may have got themselves out of this mess to share info on how you did it!!
    Thanks!!

Also, you may have to replace the battery....lithium-ion batteries lose their ability to hold charge over time. You can Google iPod Batteries, you will get results of do-it-yourself methods, and probably some services or places that will do it. I believe Apple will do it for $59.
    I hope this helps!

  • Do They make ipod mini's anymore?

Do they make ipod mini's anymore? I heard they don't but i wasn't sure....
Also do u think that a warranty will cover water damages?
I could use all the help i could get..please help

"Do they make ipod mini's anymore?"
No, they stopped making them when the nano was introduced.
"Also do u think that a warranty will cover water damages?"
Sorry, no. Try letting it dry completely for a week or two without turning it on or connecting it to anything & see if it comes back to life.
