Ipod mini music too fast, too slow and very scratchy

I have seen this question before, but no answers! I just want to listen to my music. Can you help? Music speeds up, slows down and is extremely scratchy!
  Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I've encoded several of my own CDs using iTunes with absolutely no issues. Though I can't point to LAME encoded tracks with absolute certainty, they are the only ones that have any issues - CBR or VBR. The same albums copied to a PC running an older copy of iTunes (first running 7.3, then upgraded to 7.5) display none of the issues exhibited on my PC running 7.6. Additionally, there were no issues prior to upgrading to 7.6.
I have not attempted to encode using LAME myself. I am placing my faith in Amazon and eMusic that their music is properly encoded. And I tried to be as specific as possible when posting the bug report with Apple - including some symptoms to lengthy to bother the good readers of these forums with.

Authorize the coumputer.  Go to store in the top of the screen and authorize it.

  • Transfer iPod Mini music to iPod

I was wondering if I could transfer my music from my iPod Mini to a brand new iPod instead of dragging music from the iTunes Library to the new iPod?
I have some music that are not in the library, but are on the Mini.
Do I need a special cable, software, or something???

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another, you need to get the content of your Mini back into iTunes so you can update the new iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7 A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. • Ipod mini use on both the PC and Mac

I just want to clarify this . . . I have a Mac at home that I formatted my Ipod on; however, I have a lot of music on my work PC (on ITunes) that I would love to put on the Ipod . . . so I have to restore/reinstall the settings on the Ipod for a PC? The PC can't read the Mac-formatted Ipod without a third-party system (which work won't allow me to install), but the PC-formatted Ipod can be read by the Mac, right? I will be able to transfer the stuff from the PC to my Ipod to my Mac? Or at least from the PC to the Ipod? Thanks in advance . . .

*I have a Mac at home that I formatted my Ipod on; however, I have a lot of music on my work PC (on ITunes) that I would love to put on the Ipod . . . so I have to restore/reinstall the settings on the Ipod for a PC?*
That is correct. If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). You would either need to restore the iPod in iTunes for Windows to reformat it or use a third party program such as XPlay or MacDrive that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows.
*but the PC-formatted Ipod can be read by the Mac, right?*
Macs can read Windows formatting so you should have no problem connecting your iPod to your Mac. I've no experience of the iPhone or iPod Touch but one proviso is that up until now Apple has only fully supported using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. What this means effectively is that if you need to apply a firmware update for your iPod and you wanted to maintain the Windows format you would have to do it on a PC. If you were to try and update a Windows based iPod on a Mac it would be restored and reformatted to the Mac file system and have the Mac firmware installed.
Another thing you need to remember is that if you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
*I will be able to transfer the stuff from the PC to my Ipod to my Mac?*
Correct but not just by connecting the iPod to the Mac. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Ipod Mini - music disappeared, does nothing

I bought an ipod mini fall of 2004, right away it had issues...in the first month it, I turned it on one day and all of my music was gone. I sent it back to Apple thinking it was the battery...they found nothing. then of course it was fine through the rest of the warranty and one year and one month later, it lost all music again and when plugged in, just shows the apple. wont do anything alt all now...
I had put it in a drawer for the past 9 months, as I couldnt deal with getting another apple brand lemon.
is it the battery or worse? thanks...

The exact same thing happened to me. One day I went to turn on my ipod mini and all my music was gone.
So I thought, "Oh, I'll just connect it to my computer again to get all the songs back."
Well for some reason it wouldn't connect. It still says
"Do not diconnect." but nothing happens. it just sits there for hours without poping up onto my itunes.

  • Ipod mini music to new ipod

Got another question for the group. I have an ipod mini and since buying it have purchased a new laptop that I never bothered to sync my ipod with. How can I get the music off of that ipod, put it on my new laptop, and get it to the new ipod? The threads I have seen are all contadictory to eachother.
    Thanks

    A couple questions for you:
What format is your current ipod at?
Do you have a mac or windows laptop?

  • Converting iPod Mini music to 5G iPod, losing artist information!

I had cleared out my iTunes on my hard drive, and then dumped the contents of my iPod Mini's hard drive onto my PC to re-consolidate it within iTunes so I could dump that music into the new 30GB 5G iPod (Video) afterwards.
When it got transferred, much of the artist, album, and title of the music was lost, replaced only with random 4 letter alpha titles...
For example, a DJ Baby Anne set I had on the old iPod Mini that was completely filled out within iTunes now only reads "CWWT" for a title.
Does anyone have any information regarding rescuing this artist/title/album information so I won't have to go back and manually listen to almost 2,000 songs that are in this same "ABCD" format?
    Thanks,
    -GO-

when it got transferred, much of the artist, album, and title of the music was lost, replaced only with random 4 letter alpha titles...
This is only the filename. The song name/artist/album etc., should have remained untouched, since this information is actually embedded into the audio file and stored in the ID3 tags.
You can ignore the fact that the filename has been renamed to XXXX.MP3. iTunes doesn't care about that. It will look inside the file for the track info.
When you import all of those XXXX.MP3 files back into your iTunes library, the song name/artist/album/etc. should populate into your iTunes library.

  • Can my ipod download music from both a windows and mac based computer.

My son and I have new video ipods. He works on a Mac and I have a windows computer. He would like to load some music from my computer (windows) itune file onto his (Mac based) ipod. Can he do this? If so, how?

Not sure what you are saying. You can install and activate on 2 systems, but generally standalone installs have platform-specific serials and can only be installed eitehr on Windows or Mac, not both. However, your description seems to indicate a TLP volume license, so that would be possible.

  • 2005 ipod mini...problem...and it hasn't even been a year!!??

So, I got my ipod mini for Christmas last year and it has been working fine until recently. The other day I charged it for OVER a day and then whilst working out...it died...after about 15 min. I got this as a gift, so I am not sure of when it was purchased...or how long the warranty lasts. I really need some help. I didn't use it as much as most and always charged it. I just can't believe the battery is failing after a year.

There is some excellent battery info here which may help determine if you have a bad battery.
    http://www.vsa.cape.com/~danh/ipod.htm
Your iPod has a 12 month warranty (how is it a 2005 iPod if you got last year?!), so to see if it is still under warranty, click here and enter the serial number (bottom right corner).
If it is, you would be well advised to send it in before the warranty expires.

  • Can i use itunes with my new Samsung tablet. i have an ipod mini (i know its old!) and we got rid of our computer in favour for the tablet but now i don't know how to download more songs!!??

How can i connect my ipod mini to my new Samsung tablet?

No, there is not iTunes for Android.  Actually, even if you had an iPad, there would be no way to sync an old iPod with it.  You need a computer (either a Mac or Windows PC) running iTunes to sync an iPod mini.

  • My macbook pro is running very slow and very very hot

hi everyone I have a 13 inch mid 2012 MacBook pro,
it is running very very slow and extremely hot, I downloaded a program called smc fan control and it is reading the internal temperature of my computer as 80 degrees Celsius. I was looking on the forums and saw that I should run an apple hardware test. which I have done and it is coming up with Error 4/MOT/4/40000002: EXHAUST-2003
what does this mean? is it something to do with my fan?
also there is a very strange clicking noise when I lift the mac up or if its on its side and sometimes it just randomly freezes,  the computer does not respond and then it restarts.
    what do I do?
    please help!

" the fan didn't seem congested with dust, at least not enough to cause any malfunction."
The lint and crap builds up in the heat exchanger radiator. It's the grilled thing at the output of the fan.
    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2012+Fan+Replacemen t/10367
Look at step 6. It's that grilled thing at the top of the fan. If you remove the fan that radiator is probably clogged with lint. Brush it all away and if possible blow out the fan with compressed air. Make sure the fan turns freely and doesn't feel stiff.

This isn't a MBP radiator but the problem will look like this.

  • Macbook Pro Running Slow and Very Hot!!

I took my Macbook to the Apple store and they analysed it and said that there was no problem with the actual Macbook and they updated the software.  It is still running very slow and really hot.  They cost alot of money and am really not happy with this happening after just two years of having it.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple tech support.  Let them deal w/it.

  • AVI file video plays too fast, but audio and noted length correct

I have a one minute AVI file. Premiere correctly says the frame rate is 29.97 and it is 60 seconds long. But when placed in the time line the video plays at about 6x speed and is finished in 10 seconds. The audio keeps playing for the correct 60 seconds. I rendered it and no change. Any ideas?
    Thanks - Bruce

Does Streamclip allow you to choose between Type 1 and Type 2 DV AVI? If so then you want Type 2 in your conversions.
    Cheers

  • IPod Classic 160 Gb - iTunes is SLOW and where are my Podcasts?

I just upgraded to an iPod Classic 160. I have experienced 2 problems, but not with album art.
First, iTunes is very slow. It seems to freeze for minutes at a time when performing any operations on it.
Secondly, I have a lot of Podcasts - both video and audio.
I can download them with no problem. I can see them in the contents pane in iTunes for my computer. I can play them in iTunes and I can sync them with my new iPod (apparently).
However, they do NOT show up on my iPod. The new contents screen shows No Podcasts. When I do a search for them they show up as songs and I can heard the video podcast soundtracks.
In iTunes with my iPod connected they show up under both the iTunes directory and in the iPod Directory immediately after syncing. However, if I eject and then reconnect the iPod, upon reconnection they no longer show up in iTunes in the iPod directory.
I am assuming this is a bug with either iTunes 7.4.x in the way it categorizes Podcasts or it is an OS issue with the iPod. I have the latest versions of iTunes, the latest SW and Firmware updates for the iPod and have rebooted to assure that the latest versions are the ones running.
Anyone else experience these? Anyone find solutions?
    Thanks.

    I'm having very similar problems.
In addition to iTunes becoming completely unusable for a few minutes (completely frozen) when I plug in to sync and recharge, the unit itself seems to periodically hang for more than a few seconds as I navigate the menu.
My podcasts disappear from my iPod classic every time I sync, whether or not I listened to them.
Every once in a while it just shuts off and requires a manual restart to come back on.
The battery seems to drain far faster than what makes sense, and all I do is listen to music. Two hours into my listening time and the battery meter says its almost a quarter drained!
At this point the thing keeps randomly rebooting for no reason when I am using it. Also, as I'm typing this, I heard the click of death from the hard drive.
One thing of note though, I noticed that I had set up LastFM with the thing when I first got it. I doubt it would cause half the issues here, but it is a variable to consider.
I have restored this device three times since it arrived. In addition, I'm finding myself restarting it at least twice if not more per day.
I have put in a request to warranty this thing. This soon after ordering it, and after all the things I've done, my experience screams that this unit is defective. Either that, or Apple is gonna need to issue a recall. I really hope it is just the former.
