Ipod mini no longer recognized, I have tried everything

About a month ago, the computer stopped "seeing" my Mini. It would charge (show the usual charging big battery logo) but it would not be seen in device manager, my computer, itunes or real player. The computer is a Windows computer running XP home. This is a 6 GB ipod running 1.4.
I have reset the ipod, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ipod software and itunes. I have reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything. I have used different USB ports.
I cannot restore since the Ipod updater does not recognize it, either.
Any ideas at all? The Ipod works fine, I just can't transfer new music onto it which is making me nuts.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work. These are listed in simplest to more involved order (usually).
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
-- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
-- Safely eject the iPod
-- Reboot the PC
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

If all the above fails, you may have a Virus, Malware or SpyWare problem.

The above tool looks like it removes (or it's supposed to remove) Apropos adware. Apropos is a known cause of this problem: iPod not recognized and Windows Device Manager is empty
... but other adware using the ContextPlus engine has also been known to cause similar effects.
If you do find that your Device Manager is blank, you should probably check up on this issue first: No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It

  • Ipod mini no longer recognized by itunes

Hi, I know this might sound like everyone else's problem, I've had my mini for a little less than a year now and it has worked fine but all of a sudden I can't transfer any songs as itunes wont recognize the ipod when i connect it.
I have tried resetting it a number of times and reinstalling itunes etc but no luck.
When plugged into the computer it will start charging but when I go to reset it I don't even get the apple picture anymore it just goes onto whatever song I listened to last
I was transferring songs last night and it was fine but when i plugged it back in to transfer more it wont show up
any other suggestions? before i try restoring it???

I'm an idiot and get impatient and as a result of that when I was resetting the ipod I wasn't holding down the select button, only the menu button on the clicky wheel, the apple icon eventually showed up and then my ipod appeared again in itunes.
Sorry to get anyone's hopes up but after 84764634 goes at trying to fix it I eventually found what I was doing wrong.

  • IPod Mini No Longer Recognized by G5 10.2.8?

I connected an iPod Mini to a new iMac with 10.4.4 to charge it and now the Mini is not recognized by a G5 with 10.2.8. I read that 10.2.8 does not support USB 2.0. For some reason, the iPod was updated to USB 2.0 and the driver is not downward compatible. So, I puchased a firewire-dock cable. The iPod Mini is still not recognized. Apple's support suggests the 5 Rs:

I can't try the last one, Restore, because the Mini is not recognized. How can you Restore if the iPod Mini is not in the iTunes Source List?
    Power Mac G5 1.8 GHz Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Never mind. I used the iPod Updater 2006-06-28 to restore and everything's fine.

  • Ipod Mini no longer recognized - can't reload itunes 6

We downloaded Itunes 6 this past Saturday but last night the system no longer recognizes that the Ipod Mini is there and says that the program for communication with the ipod is missing.
When I try to download Itunes 6 to reinstall, the automatic download never starts.
Why is Itunes 6 such a problem? How do I get back to a working state?

    hi Andrew!
last night the system no longer recognizes that the Ipod Mini is there and says that the program for communication with the ipod is missing.
just checking something before we proceed. are you also getting an "Ipod Service Error" when you click on your ipod updater?
(if so, there's a chance we may be able to fix this without having to resort to a reinstall.)

  • IPod still not being recognized, I've tried everything!

My iPod was working fine up until about a week ago. Now it won't be recognized by any computers (I've tried my sister's laptop and parent's PC, my laptop is currently busted). I'm positive the problem is with the iPod itself because my little sister's iPod (not the exact same one, but an older version of it) worked both on my sister's laptop and my parents' PC. I've tried all of the 5 R's, except Restore, which I can't do because my laptop won't recognize the iPod. I ran a diagnostic test and everything seemed fine...I got these numbers for my SMART test and I don't know if they're bad or good:
    Retracts: 1
    Reallocs: 0
    Pending Sectors: 0
    Power on Hours: 141
    Start/Stops: 20056
    Temp current: 31
    Temp min: 5
    Temp Max: 48
I really don't know what to do anymore, I wanted to ask for help on here before I called and made an appointment to get it looked at. Does anyone have any suggestions, please???

    You could try this:
turn off your ipod, by holding down the home and sleep wake buttons until it turns off. disconnect it from your computer. hold down the home button, whilst plugging the ipod into your computer. itunes should then recognise an ipod in recovery mode, and will ask you to restore. this may help, as it will force the ipod into recovery mode

  • IPod Touch will NOT sync!  Have tried EVERYTHING! ... suggestions anyone?

I have no idea what is going on, my iPod touch is only 6 months old and in good condition. I've never dropped or anything like that, no computer crashes or surges that would cause any problems with it, and up until this morning, it has been working fine connecting to my netbook and such, downloading and all that.
I have tried re-installing iTunes TWICE, and it still will not recognize my iPod at all. It will charge it, but just not recognize it. I updated the usb driver and thought that was that problem because it actually seemed like it was out of date and re-started the computer, but it still didn't work.
I have no idea why it all of a sudden is not recognizing my iPod, and could use any suggestions. I really wanted to enjoy using my iPod this Memorial Day Weekend and hope someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance~

Jailbroken means to jailbreak it, but I will not go in to detail, as Apple does not allow it. Do not do it if you find out what it is, Apple voids your warenty, and it can go seriously wrong and brick your iPod. See Syncing and arranging apps from the App Store for how to sync apps on iTunes, and Syncing music to iPod or iPhone for syncing music.

  • I have iphoto 6 and my pictures are no longer showing.  I have tried importing them but it just give me an error msg. (file format not recognized) I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

I have iphoto 6 and my pictures are no longer showing.  I have tried importing them but it just give me an error msg. (file format not recognized) I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

    How did you rebuild?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • My ipod touch gen 4 will not recovery after software update. have tried everything. device not recognized by itunes. any ideas?

my ipod touch gen 4 will not recovery after software update. have tried everything. device not recognized by itunes. any ideas?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPOD not being seen in ITunes...I have tried everything - please help!!

Okay, so I have tried everything listed on Apple's website to get my IPOD to be recognized in ITUNES. When I plug my IPOD into the USB port, the "do not disconnect" screen pops up. Nothing happens in ITUNES. Windows Vista pops up and says "Do you want me to scan and fix the IPOD F: drive?" Either selection doesn't do anything. I have tried the 5 R's from apple. I have tried to download every update available etc. I have tried to even go in and update the driver. However Vista is telling me that I have the most up to date version of everything. When my IPOD isn't connected to the PC, everything seems normal - except for the fact that there is no music or anything on it. But all menus are available and accessbile. Can anyone suggest what to do here? I am at a loss. Please help!! Thanks.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, the 'Do not disconnect' sign appears, the battery does not charge, and my iPod doesn't appear either in iTunes or on my desktop. Since it doesn't appear in either of these places, I have to ignore the 'do not disconnect' sign and disconnect anyway. If I then reset my iPod, quite iTunes and reconnect iPod to laptop, everything's fine - iTunes opens, and recognizes the iPod. I guess this isn't the end of the world, since I can simply avoid ever connecting my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, but is this normal?

    Hey Xxx_Dank_xxX,
Have you ever been able to sync your iPod shuffle to iTunes on your computer, or has something recently occurred?  Are you working with a Mac or a PC?   Without knowing what has been recommended to you, I'm going to start here with the basics troubleshooting for this issue.

  • My iTunes account says error 13019 after it has recognized all of the music and I have tried everything that is on this website and everything i can find about how to fix it; I even created in under a new administrator. Any suggestions how to fix it?

My iTunes account says "The iPod "Madison " cannot be synced. An unknown error has occured (13019)" after it has recognized all of the music and has went through every song and it said "Copying  (song)   to "Madison"....." and then after it has went through all of my songs (492) it says the error message. I have tried everything that is on the Apple iTunes website about it, I have created the music account under a new administrator, I've tried everything. What do i do?

I found something that worked.  I had never come across "recovery mode," but found reference to it, how to do it. http://www.ichilton.co.uk/blog/iphone/getting-the-iphone-ipod-touch-into-recover y-mode-48.html
Put the ipod touch in recovery mode and then restored it, setting it up as a new Ipod, rather than restoring from the backup.  Given how much trouble I'd had, I suspected that the backup might be corrupted anyway.
That seems to have resolved everything completely.

  • IPod nano no longer recognized USB device - after almost 2 perfect years

Okay, so I ran about 5 miles last night using my nike+ipod. The ipod worked flawlessly as usual. When I went to plug it in to my computer, instead of acting normal I got "unrecognized USB device" or something similar. iTunes didn't recognize it either. It was charging however. The ipod still plays music, but without being recognized I won't be able to get any music changed on it.
I already tried a couple of things. I rebooted the computer. I plugged it in to another computer (with same results). I switched the hold switch and then held down the top two buttons for 6 seconds, etc. It turns off and back on fine. It plays music fine. The computer seems to know it's there b/c it charges and respondes "USB device not recognized". It just doesn't recognize it anymore.
Please help! Did I sweat too much on it?
iPod nano 1Gb (1st Gen I think)   Windows Vista

I have tried everything that has been mentioned on every discussion I could find and it still isn't working. It's driving me crazy! Could any1 help please? All suggestions appreciated.
Out of curiousity could it be a faulty wire?
