IPod mini not connecting to iTunes correctly

I've been having problems with my iPod mini lately. First it wasn't being recognized by iTunes, then it deleted all the music on my iPod randomly and now it doesn't upload songs. I get an error saying that "the disc cannot be updated or written to." As well when i try and put songs onto my iPod they show up in grey rather then black. Any ideas

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

and
Not Charge
- See:
iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I already uninstall itunes and made sure there were no file left before I installed again (it didn't appear to be any files left but music I had on it before was still there when I reinstall it)
My ipod does work on my old computer and it was working on windows 8 before I update to  8.1

Since the last iTunes update my iPod will not connect to iTunes. My computer recognizes it but as soon as I launch iTunes I get the error message: An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. I have done ALL troubleshooting steps and it still gives me the error...... this only happend since I updated iTunes.

  • Ipod mini not recognized by iTunes

My iPod mini is recognized by my USB drive and shows up in my computer and device manager says it's functioning properly, but it's not showing up in iTunes, therefore I can't update or restore it. Help.
Also, would I loose all my songs if I had to delete and then reinstall iTunes.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Still no joy, see these.

  • IPod 30G not connecting to iTunes

    Okay.
My iPod 30G Video is not connecting to iTunes. It is not showing up in the 'source panel'. It froze the the day after I bought it and I had to reset it. It froze two days later and it took about 45 min of resetting it to get it to where it is now: plays songs fine; cannot connect to iTunes; when I attach the iPod to my PC the 'do not disconnect' appears.
Anybody run in to this problem?

Well I tried to restore it as well but an error message kept popping up (on my PC). Mind you, I tried this at work; I'll try later to-night at home.
    Thanks for the response!

  • IPod Touch - Not connecting to iTunes

My iPod suddenly will not connect with iTunes.  I have it connected to my computer with usb cable, but nothing seems to work. Has anybody else ever had this problem?

My problem is slightly different, though not less frustrating. When I open iTunes I can connect my Touch but when I go back to Home on the touch, or it go to standby, even with the Keep Connected on I loose the connection and the iTouch doesn't find my iTunes again. The only way to get out of this is to restart iTunes, then everything works again. I am using the iTouch to my media PC to avoid having to turn on my TV each time I want to play music.
I have reinstalled the iTouch again, still the same problem

  • Ipod mini not recognised by Itunes

    Hi All,
Have bought a used Ipod mini from ebay as an xmas pressie ro ise with a Windows XP/Vista laptop. when I open Itunes it won't appear under the 'devices' pane.
the ipod came with a usb cable ok but am not sure if I need an additional software cd for the mini as well and where I would be able to get it.
Have tried the 5Rs with no joy and have the latest version of itunes installed.
    Any suggestions appreciated
    Selina

I have just one suggestion left.
Although you might not have the same issue as the title of this article, I suggest you read it.

  • Ipod mini not updating in itunes on emac

my mini wont update on my emac in itunes, we have the latest updates for both ipod and emac itunes etc.....
first it says that the ipod is connected with another lib and if i want to have the ipod use my library (which is the only lib it has ever been updated with)..
then it gets ready to copy and says that the "disk cannot be written to or read from"...
please help i have tried re setting my ipod and the computer and i dont know what else to do!!

See if anything here helps: "-36 or "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
Failing that try restoring your iPod, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings so make sure you have everything backed up. Once the restore is complete it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings

  • IPod mini not talking to iTunes on Windows

Quick question, with detailed description below (for those who want to read on )
Have noted article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93426 stating that you will have issues updating iPod if Windows is not on C: Will I have other general issues with Windows not on C?
Detailed description; My Windows installation is on H: I have two mini iPods. Both worked fine, then one stopped appearing in iTunes. Eventually got it swapped through Apple warranty, but replacement was exactly the same. I can see now that I could never perform the format with Windows on C: but I'm not too impressed with the thought of having to reinstall the OS for a peripheral. Now my first, and to date, always working iPod has gone the same way. It seems to me that the iPod doesn't work too well with Windows? Can anyone suggest reasons and solutions please?

    Did you try everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    Another cable?
    Another USB port?
    Does the iPod work
    Does it charge?
Try with another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem. Make an appointment at After you went to the Genius Bar of an Apple store what did the Genius say? You said you tried everything that has been discussed here and one action discussed is making an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Just saying you tried everything provides us with zero information as to what you did try.

  • Ipod nano not connecting to itunes but computer reads it

i just got a new ipod nano and i downloaded itunes 7.0.2. the computer recognizes it because of ding it makes and the ipod itself acts like one should. it also shows up in "my computer", but it does not appear in itunes. i have followed numerous troubleshooting tips with no affect.
    please help!

    It's woorking!
Ok, after some 40 hours trying to figure out what was wrong in my case, I think I might have found the problem. The newest ipod software (I think) requires USB 2.0. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop running Windows XP Pro SP2. There are several USB ports: 2 in the front and 4 in the back. One of the first things I did was go to the device manager and check whether I had USB 2.0. Indeed, there was a USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller. All the problems I encountered were the same whether I used the two ports on the front or the two lower ports on the back. I went to the store for the second time ready to turn in my ipod nano and try to get my money back, but they told me that my computer didn't have a USB 2.0 port and that was the reason I was having trouble. They made me buy a USB 2.0 PCI card and sent me home. Before I proceeded to install the card, I carefully revised my ports. That's when I realized I had a printer connected to another USB port, ánd because of that I didn't notice I had two extra USB ports that carried that funny symbol you will find on the USB ipod connector. I hadn't tried the ipod on the port the printer was connected to, neither on the one next to it. I hooked my ipod to the ipod-virgin port and it worked! Finally! itunes recognized my ipod and I was able to upload songs and all. I didn't realize that even if you have one or two 2.0 USB ports, the others aren't necessarily 2.0 (on the device manager there were other host controllers that were not "Enhanced"). I guess this is what happened. I can't come up with any other explanation.

  • Ipod nano not connecting to itunes or updater

I just bought my new ipod nano a few days ago. Ever since I got it, it has not been able to connect to itunes and gets a "ipod service error" in the updater. However, it is recognized im my computer as a removable disk. I have tried all of the apple support suggestions, tried formatting it, reinstalling, amongst many other things.
I realize my problem now is that the ipodservice.exe is not running at all in processes in windows task manager. I looked in the bin folder of the ipod in program files, and it is there so it doesn't make sense that it doesn't run.
If anyone has any suggestions as to why this exe file is not running please help me. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. When I first got my ipod out of the box I plugged it into the computer and put files on it, rather than installing the software first (how stupid of me). I wonder if this is the cause of it not working now.

  • IPod touch not connecting to iTunes or computer and has a "connect to iTunes" message when powered on

So, I got my iPod 3rd gen 8gb off craigslist, I had a chance to test it, it worked fine then. I reset it and then tryed to connect to iTunes with my sisters' iPod touch 4th gen usb cable, and it didn't work. I tryed it again on my moms desktop and it says that the USB device is not recognised, so the USB cable DOES work. I downloaded iTunes on the desktop computer, and still, didn't work. I ordered a new cord, maybe it will work, but who knows. Also, I contacted the people I got the iPod from, they said they had reset it and it connected to iTunes just fine.
A nice detailed answer would be appreciated.

Ahh, just un-installed the Apple Mobile Device thing in my Programs and Features, then uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it and it worked, I got the driver in and did the thing on the page you gave me and it works like a dream. Thank you!!

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
