IPod mini not found by computer

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771
This is the problem I have, but the solution doesn't work. When I get to step 3:
"Put your iPod into disk mode and connect it to your computer."
But as soon as I plug it it, the iPod screen turns back to the folder with the exclamation mark, and the support page down at the bottom. I also tried running the iPod Updater, to restore it without entering disk mode, but it doesn't detect the iPod either, along with iTunes and Windows.

I think I have the same problem.
I downloaded an iPod updater in recently, and ever since, iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod. it charges, but doesn't update it.
I have spent hours online trying to figure out what is wrong. the website suggested restoring my iPod, but in order to do so, i have to have it plugged in, and then my PC doesn't recognize it.
I am going CRAZY trying to figure out what is wrong, and I have come down to my last wire. I NEED HELP!!!

Hi, whenever I connect my ipod to the computer I get this message:
"The iPod "my iPod" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (4.27 GB required, 3.75 GB available). Would you like iTunesto turn off podcast syncing and choose a selection of songs to sync to this iPod?
You can chose specific podcasts to sync to this iPod in the Podcasts tab in the iPod preferences."
I click the no option cause I'd like it to add the playlists I have made in itunes instead. So I got the >devices > my iPod click the "Only sync checked items" in the summary tab. Go to the music tab and select the playlists I want to add (way less than 3.75 GB) and deselect the podcast option in the podcast tab.
Follow up by clicking apply to get things going, but all that happens is that itunes freezes, nothing happens for a couple of minutes and then I get this message:
"The iPod "my iPod" cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found."
    Any help is appreciated

  • Sad iPod and not found on computer -tred all relevant articles

My iPod was working fine until I finally decided to update the software. After i did this, it told me to update my firmware by plugging it in. I did, and then when I unplugged it later on, every song on my iPod was gone. A few days later, I plugged the iPod into my computer and all the songs magically came back on it, even the ones that were not backed up on the computer I plugged it into. It worked fine for a couple of days, but this morning when I tried to play a song, it kept lagging and would struggle, making some clicking sounds (not continuous ones like when a harddrive crashes, just occasional ones like it was having trouble reading), so I reset it. When I started up again, I got the sad iPod icon. I have since tried everything in every relevant support article I could find. I tried the 5 R's, and I also put it into disk mode (which it finally did, after much lagging), but still my computer would not recognize it, even after reinstalling iTunes.
Basically, what it comes down to, is I cannot restore it, because I cannot get my computer to recognize it. It has always worked fine on this computer -- in fact, I never had a single problem with my iPod until I tried to update the software. I guess I learned, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' - but how can I ever get my iPod to work again? Please help me!
PS: Somehow I accidentally put this topic in the wrong thread at first... I never even clicked on any fourm, so I don't know how it got there, and I cannot figure out how to delete my post either. For an award-winning site, it just doesn't seem very user-friendly to me >.<

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.

10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • IPod Mini not recognized by computer

Tried all manners of resetting and restoring the iPod. Fails every time. Can I just re-format the disk using Disk Utility? And if so, what format?
Or is all of this in vain and I need a new one?
    TIA.
    JB

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case the above does not work, find a window base PC and do a Restore there. Once it has been done, redo the Restore on your Mac
Bear in mind you may need to put your iPod in disk mode before you plug with your computer.

"i want to know will yamipod copy everything to my itunes from my ipod like playlists and the name of the ipod , settings etc"
Yamipod copies music (including playlist). Your settings are stored on the iPod and will not change. That includes the name you gave it which should show up in iTunes whenever you connect the iPod.
Yamipod does not transfer play-counts, ratings etc.

  • Installed but not found on computer

I've successfully installed the latest 10.1 for my 64-bit laptop with Windows 7.  A check by Adobe confirms that it was properly installed, and that I have the correct version for my computer.
AND YET, there is no icon for it anywhere, it doesn't come up on my list of Programs, when I enter "Adobe Flash Player" in the search bar it shows no such program, and when I try to play a FLV file, it won't give me Flash Player as an option. So..... I have it on my computer, but I apparently am not allowed to see it or access it?
I've uninstalled and re-installed several times, and cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is.  Any help for this maddening situation?

    Hi,
Yes, I read his comments and I made sure Shockwave Flash Object was enabled in IE as he suggested. I am trying to make a flip book. One of the posts here in the forum said to make a SWF file, which I did. But now I can't figure out how to do anything with it. I thought Flash Reader was the right program to look at it, but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe I need Flash itself? The flip book thing has me pretty frustrated and confused. All the sites and software I've tried are poor quality. I was hoping I could figure out how to do it through Adobe to get better quality.

Re: Installed but not found on computer
Hi, Flash Player is a browser plugin, not a stand alone Player. You should have Shockwave Flash Object in add ons in IE and make sure it is enabled.
Your Flash files are in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
You may want the Adobe Media Player:http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/
    Hope that helps,

  • 'ipod has not found a sensor' - could it be a problem with plane?

I have just received a nike+ ipod sport kit, which I bought on ebay. Receiver is probably ok because the application works correcty. But when I am asked to walk around to locate sensor, it doesn't find anything, writting a message 'ipod has not found a sensor'. I'm sure that it's not in a sleeping mode.
I was thinking if there could be a problem with delivery. Like some problem during flight or some mechanical damage.
    Could anyone help please?

The same thing happened to me with a brand-new one! I wonder if someone knows what to do? I tried to press the sensor button to put it to wake - no change. Advantage on you I can go to the store and get it exchanged if required - I'll keep you informed.

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

Around Thanksgiving my iPod Mini that worked for over a year is no longer recognized by iTunes (Actually it shows as a bad file folder then dissapears in Windows Explorer).

    Hello Amber,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes.  I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer or Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows

My iPod mini is recognized by my USB drive and shows up in my computer and device manager says it's functioning properly, but it's not showing up in iTunes, therefore I can't update or restore it. Help.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.

  • IPod Shuffle not recognized by computer

iTunes keeps telling me that my shuffle is not fomatted properly and I have to restore. But even after restoring, I still keep getting the same error message. What can I do?

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.

Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.
