Ipod mini not recognised when connected

When I connect my ipod mini to my laptop the ipod just freezes, and the laptop does not recognise it. Have tried all the suggestions on the ipod mini troubleshooting page and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Since this problem started, have you shut down (powered off) you computer, then started it up again?  I assume this iPod worked with this computer before, and it is not working now for some reason...
You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

then connect it.  If that allows iTunes to recognize it, you may want to run a Restore on the iPod from its Summary tab (in iTunes).  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.

    I have just sorted out my problems that I have been having...
    I thought I would try just a simple thing as to change the USB lead...
    So I did...
    AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    No more problems & I can now add to my collection & everything is ok...
    So guys, if you had the same problem as me then go get a new USB lead..

    Have bought a used Ipod mini from ebay as an xmas pressie ro ise with a Windows XP/Vista laptop. when I open Itunes it won't appear under the 'devices' pane.
    the ipod came with a usb cable ok but am not sure if I need an additional software cd for the mini as well and where I would be able to get it.
    Have tried the 5Rs with no joy and have the latest version of itunes installed.
    Any suggestions appreciated

    I have just one suggestion left.
    Although you might not have the same issue as the title of this article, I suggest you read it.
    There could be a problem with loading the 'iPodDriver.kext' file.

    As the topics says, my mini is considered to be an ordinary removable medium by Windows. Transferring songs to the mini seems to work properly (at least iTunes tells me this), but during the process Windows warns me that there is a data-loss while writing onto the medium.
    I already restored several times my mini, it did not help. The change of the drive letter did not solve the problem too.

    I've got a very similar problem. Sometimes itunes recognizes my ipod, sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately though, when it does recognize it, it won't update all of my songs. It will look like its updating, then freeze up and crash. I've tried everything - reinstall itunes, restore my ipod, etc. I'm pretty much at a loss right now and am going to try and bring my ipod back to see if that might be the issue. All of these problems are new since updating to itunes 5.

    I have a BT Hub 5 Type A, which was installed in April. We run two small businesses from the house, so there is a lot of equipment connected to it, all by wifi. There are 4 Mac laptops, about 6 iphones, Apple TV and I run an Apple Airport network from it, to extend it through some steelwork and upstairs. 
    Just lately a couple of the laptops are unable to connect, because the Hub rejects the password (which is correct). The same laptops can connect to the Airport network and occasionally to the hub, but only if they switch to it automatically. If I have to manually change network, then I always get asked for the password, which is rejected.
    I have switched off smart wifi, but I use both 2.4 and 5ghz synced.
    Any help would be gratefully recieved.

    The country has no effect on iTunes seeing the iPod/iPhone. Run diagnostics and see what it says about see the iPod.

    I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

    Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
    Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

    First open iTunes (version 11). Then connect the iPad. Now is it recognized?

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on           
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable                     
    - Try on another computer                                                       
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
