My iPod mini is recognized by my USB drive and shows up in my computer and device manager says it's functioning properly, but it's not showing up in iTunes, therefore I can't update or restore it. Help.
Also, would I loose all my songs if I had to delete and then reinstall iTunes.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.

I am creating this as a new post to get some data not a fix. If you find an answer start a new post.
Around Thanksgiving my iPod Mini that worked for over a year is no longer recognized by iTunes (Actually it shows as a bad file folder then dissapears in Windows Explorer).
I did everything the trouble shooting instructions suggest at least 5 times, except I can't restore because the computer does not recognize the iPod.
I was about to give up on iPods when... in a meeting at work I learned 3 out of 5 iPod users said the same thing happen since Thanksgiving and the others don’t think they have sync'ed yet.

  • Ipod mini not recognized in ihome

My iPod is not getting recognized in 3rd party iHome and other devices that can play iPod etc. I have a Honda Odyssey and this iPod mini is not being recognized there as well. I have an iPhone and iPad and they both work fine on these devices. The version of this iPod is 1.4.1.
Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

I had this exact same problem and I tried every single solution posted in this forum and I finally found the answer to it somewhere else. Try this:
    1) Make sure that you have these services running (control panel - Admin. - Tools - services):
    Network DDE DSDM
    Network DDE
    Clipbook
    Routing and Remote Access
    Terminal Services
    Server
    2) Stop the Ipod Service (same location as (1)]
    3) Connect your |Ipod
    4) Start itunes (this will automatically start Ipod Service again)
    5) Update the new s/w in iPod.
This should not take more than 3 mins. after that, it will restart your ipod and it will be updated as noted by itunes.
I found that all the services except Server had been disabled in my services and once on enabled them I had no problem updating my ipod and getting itunes to recognize it!
    Hope this helps!

  • Ipod mini not recognized on Itunes or Windows

I bought my mini in 2005, and I had no problems until last night. I just bought a new song and I plugged my ipod in to update, but it didn't show up. At first Windows recognized it, but then it didn't. My brother has a nano, so I plugged that in to see if it was my computer or my ipod, and Itunes saw it right away. I tried looking at my service options, but when I typed my Serial number in, it said it was not right. I double-checked, and I typed the number in right. What should I do?

  • Ipod mini not recognized by iTunes 7

When I was at my Uncle's house downloading music, I did too many songs at once and it froze...just stopped updating but the iPod summary page still showed up.
Now, on my dell laptop, my ipod is recognized by the USB drive because the drive folder is shown when it's plugged in and it IS charging, but it's not showing up with iTunes. Any clues, anyone? Any help at all would be great.

Also, I just noticed this "record"...when I got back from my uncle's house I had the iPod plugged in before start up and before windows loaded, the computer gave me this. After this I changed the drive to I.

  • IPod Mini not recognized by computer

Tried all manners of resetting and restoring the iPod. Fails every time. Can I just re-format the disk using Disk Utility? And if so, what format?
Or is all of this in vain and I need a new one?
    TIA.
    JB

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case the above does not work, find a window base PC and do a Restore there. Once it has been done, redo the Restore on your Mac
Bear in mind you may need to put your iPod in disk mode before you plug with your computer.

  • IPod is not recognized in ITunes after upgrade to 7.3.1

Please help. I upgraded ITunes to the 7.3.1 version and now my IPod is not recognized in my ITunes. The USB port is working since my IPod recharged when I plugged it into the computer. I uninstalled & then reinstalled ITunes, but, my IPod is still not recognized by ITunes or my computer. I cannot find it listed in "my computer" files.
Any suggestions as to what happened? Thanks.

Your post solved the same problem for me. Thank you so much! And thanks to JaketheSnake for starting this thread. iTunes used to start up automatically whenever I connected my iPod Touch, but a couple of months ago it quit doing that. I didn't think much of it as I just clicked on iTunes in the dock and opened it and went on my merry way. I just figured something in the last iTunes update changed it's behavior. But lately I noticed that my iPod Touch would be in the source list while it was syncing and then it would sometimes just disappear. I was too lazy to start a thread, I guess, because I just thought someone would tell me to "restore" my iPT and I had gotten used to my little "work arounds". But now it's fixed, thanks to both of you.

  • IPad mini not recognized by itunes 10.6.1 (7)?

Why is new ipad mini not recognized by iTunes 10.6.1 (7)?  Running OSX 10.5.8 software on the Mac.  Software updates both report: "up to date"

Sorry, but you need iTunes 11 which requires OS 10.6 or higher and a Mac with an Intel processor. In other words, you need a newer Mac.
