IPod mini not talking to iTunes on Windows

Quick question, with detailed description below (for those who want to read on )
Have noted article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93426 stating that you will have issues updating iPod if Windows is not on C: Will I have other general issues with Windows not on C?
Detailed description; My Windows installation is on H: I have two mini iPods. Both worked fine, then one stopped appearing in iTunes. Eventually got it swapped through Apple warranty, but replacement was exactly the same. I can see now that I could never perform the format with Windows on C: but I'm not too impressed with the thought of having to reinstall the OS for a peripheral. Now my first, and to date, always working iPod has gone the same way. It seems to me that the iPod doesn't work too well with Windows? Can anyone suggest reasons and solutions please?

Did you try everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Another cable?
Another USB port?
Does the iPod work
Does it charge?
Try with another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem. Make an appointment at After you went to the Genius Bar of an Apple store what did the Genius say? You said you tried everything that has been discussed here and one action discussed is making an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Just saying you tried everything provides us with zero information as to what you did try.

  • Ipod mini not recognized on Itunes or Windows

I bought my mini in 2005, and I had no problems until last night. I just bought a new song and I plugged my ipod in to update, but it didn't show up. At first Windows recognized it, but then it didn't. My brother has a nano, so I plugged that in to see if it was my computer or my ipod, and Itunes saw it right away. I tried looking at my service options, but when I typed my Serial number in, it said it was not right. I double-checked, and I typed the number in right. What should I do?

my ipod does not apprear in itunes with windows 7 any ideas

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • Ipod mini not recognized by iTunes

My iPod mini is recognized by my USB drive and shows up in my computer and device manager says it's functioning properly, but it's not showing up in iTunes, therefore I can't update or restore it. Help.
Also, would I loose all my songs if I had to delete and then reinstall iTunes.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.

  • Ipod does not appear in itunes after windows scan and fix

Two days ago, I restored my Ipod classic using Itunes 9.2.0.61. After restoration my Ipod started freezing Itunes and Vista. At a point, I saw a blue screen and my computer forced a shutdown. When it rebooted, Vista kept asking to automatically "scan and fix" problems on my Ipod. Thinking that would solve the "freeze" problem, I stupidly went ahead to have Vista scan and fix my Ipod. Now the freeze problem is gone, but my Ipod does not appear in Itunes. I have tried the five Rs from Apple, but that has not helped. Anyone with a solution?

  • IPod Classic not showing in iTunes or Windows

I received a new iPod 80GB Classic for Christmas today, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with iTunes. I've plugged it into the USB port, but all that happens is that it starts charging but doesn't show in My Computer or iTunes.
Before I got this new iPod I was using a 2GB iPod Nano, could it be because I was syncing a particular iPod with iTunes before I got this new iPod? Or do I have to do something like charge the iPod completely before connecting it to the USB port?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Ipod touch not seen in Itunes on windows 7

My Ipod touch has stopped working. I had a new laptop with vista that i upgraded to windows 7. I can see the ipod (as disk storage) on my computer but when i plug in to USB it bleeps but does not lauch or itunes or become visible if itunes already loaded. I have gone through all apple stuff for clean uninstall of every thing and i upgraded to latest version itunes. I went apple store..not very helpful..said my ipod syncs with a mac but cant do anything because they think it is windows 7! Any ideas, its driving me nuts.
    Stuart

    Righty-ho.
    Here's the theory.
AMDS (which we need for Touch recognition) installs the usbaapl.sys and netaapl.sys drivers on a PC. As well as in the Program files, files for those drivers go into some other locations on a PC. Usually, when AMDS is uninstalled, those files and folders get uninstalled. (I just confirmed that yesterday on my XP SP3 box.) But it is possible for some of those files and folders to get stuck and not be removed by an uninstall. (Confirmed that yesterday on a different XP SP3 box.)
I've confirmed that the leftover files/folders can cause trouble with AMDS reinstalls (they are the source of some "rolling back installation" messages during AMDS installs). But I reckon they might also plausibly cause some grief in iPod/iPhone recognition contexts too. That's what we're going to follow up on with you, Stu.
    let's start working on that.
First, we'd better try to track down where the little beggars live on a Windows 7 system. We're going to have to do some settings changes on the PC in order to even see them.
From the Start menu, click Open.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that:
The "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected
The "Hide extensions for known filetypes" box is unchecked
The "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" box is unchecked
    Click OK.
Now we're going to run a search for usbaapl ... I don't have a Windows 7 box available for reference, but this is how I'd do it in Vista.
I go "Start > Computer" and type usbaapl in the Search box. When it tells me it can't find it, I click Advanced, select the "search hidden, non-indexed and system files (may be slow)" box, and then wait for an eternity until the green progress bar up on the top of the "Computer" window has completely disappeared.
What files and folders with usbaapl in the name do you see show up in your search results, and what are their file locations?
Now repeat the search, this time for netaapl. What files and folders with netaapl in the name do you see show up in your search results, and what are their file locations?
