  • Connecting iPod mini to computer

When I plug in my mini to the computer, it only charges--it does not update my songs. It doesn't even show that it is connected under the side toolbar on iTunes.
    What could the problem be?

When you plug your iPod into the computer in iTunes click "File" and then go down to "Update iPod". Maybe your iPod is set to manually update instead of automatically.

  • Found an Ipod mini, my computer is not recognizing it.. help please!

    Hello everyone
I had a 2004 20G Ipod, but it has since died. Lucky me, I found an Ipod Mini in the street! I connected the new Ipod to my computer and when I open Itunes, Itunes is not responding as having an Ipod plugged in. How can I get Itunes to recognize this new Ipod?
    Please help! Thank you!!

Call Apple (1-800-myapple) and give them the serial number.
They can notify the last registered owner and pass on your contact info to them so it can be returned.
Thanks for being a good person!

  • Ipod mini not recognised when connected

When I connect my ipod mini to my laptop the ipod just freezes, and the laptop does not recognise it. Have tried all the suggestions on the ipod mini troubleshooting page and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Since this problem started, have you shut down (powered off) you computer, then started it up again?  I assume this iPod worked with this computer before, and it is not working now for some reason...
You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then connect it.  If that allows iTunes to recognize it, you may want to run a Restore on the iPod from its Summary tab (in iTunes).  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.

  • IPod mini freezes computer and won't restore, etc.

I have an ipod mini, purchased nearly 2 years ago and this is the first time it's given me trouble. Worked fine on Friday and then started givin me the folder and exclamation point icon everytime I tried to turn it on, reset it, restore, etc. Tried following the "5 Trys" to no avail. Tried banging it 4 or 5 times against the table. Don't know what else to do. Is it worth sending it back to Apple to see if they can fix it?
One thing that I don't see anywhere on the Apple Support site - what do I do when plugging the iPod into causes the computer to lock up? I've tried this on two computers, both of which are updated with the latest version of iTunes. Tried a disk restore and got as far as the checkmark on the screen, but again the computer freezes up when I get to the part where I plug it in and try to update it through iTunes.
    Please help!

Update: Tried connecting the iPod to a coworker's Mac this morning and it tried going through the restore process, but ended up getting this error message:
The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1429).
I tried searching for this error number on the ipod support site but it didn't come up with anything. Is my ipod toast?!

  • Is there a way of moving music from iPod Mini to computer?

Hi, I've got heaps of tracks on my iPod Mini, that I don't seem to have in my iTunes Library...
Is there a way to transferring these tracks back onto my computer?
    Thanks!

You cannot do it using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, if you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get links for third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.
NOTE:  Songs previously purchased from the iTunes Store can also be re-downloaded on the Purchased screen at no cost.

  • IPod mini reboots every time I turn it on

As of late, my 2nd gen. iPod mini has been acting up. It seems when I don't use it for longer than a few hours, it reboots when I turn it on. By reboots I mean it takes a few seconds showing nothing and then the apple sign comes on. Shortly after that the menu comes on and everything is as it should. After it reboots everything works properly and all my settings are still set. I guess its okay because it still works, but its quite annoying. Any suggestions?

The iPod goes into deep sleep after a period of inactivity of about 36 hours. If it's happenning after just 5 or 6 hours, that's not normal.
    You should try restoring it.
If this doesn't help, then you might consider just ignoring it. Rebooting in this manner isn't hurting your iPod although it's a nuisance.

  • IPod mini reboots, restarts when scrolling (up)

    Hi all,
I have an odd problem. I can turn on my mini, then try to navigate the menus, and I can scroll down just fine. When I try to scroll up, I reboots and shows the apple logo. Then it starts up just fine again.
I have tried restoring it and even running chkdsk on the disk for the heck of it (does that even do anything?), to no avail.
    Any ideas?

  • Crazy ipod mini is clicking. . .why???

i am currently using my second ipod mini (the one sent as a replacement for my first defective ipod mini), and it is worse than the first. first of all, the thing freezes, so i plug it into the computer first and then to an outlet when the computer won't recognize the mini. furthermore, it seems to be cycling and won't respond to any attempts i have made to reset it. and to top it all off, it is clicking the whole time it is cycling from apple icon . . . to sad mini icon . . . to apple icon again . . .and an occasional flash of a battery & yield sign icon. what should i do now ??????? how can i fix this????? please help
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Here is a pretty comprehensive post about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • IPod mini won't "stay" connected..

I started having problems with my mini a couple of weeks ago, with songs skipping like a scratched record.. I tried to hook it up to iTunes and it doesn't recognize me anymore.. I went over the 5 "R" steps aand finally the mini opened in iTunes long enough to check for recent updates for the mini and begin the "restore" process. I figured I'd try this and then reload my library to see if the HD is toast or not. It has never done this before.. Now, I have an empty iPod that after downloading iTunes 9.0.1, I can't get my iPod to open in iTunes. I hook it up to the USB cable and it's like a light switch being turned on and off, the iPod lites up and looks like it will open in iTunes, then jumps back out.. It keeps doing that as long as I am conencted to that cable. I have tried several different USB ports and with that same cable, I hooked hubby's iPod mini and it opened and recognized him right away. How do I get it to stop the jumping process so I can try and restore my library? Is there any manual "hard reset" I can do? I dont' want to toss it but I am frustrated as to what to do next.
    Lori

    Lori,
Yes, There is a "Hard Reset" for the iPod. Apple (and in iTunes) labels it as an iPod in Recovery Mode. It is really easy to do!
Basically what you do is reset the iPod while it is plugged into the computer (make sure you have your iPod plugged into the back of your computer and have your printer unplugged. Sometimes printers will mess up this process!) and restore the iPod.
If that dont work the only other suggestion that I would have for you is to use a different computer and try again. If it still doesn't work for you then I think you iPod is officially done for!
Also, just remember that apple has a recycling program for iPods. So if you would want a new one just take it to a local apple store and exchange it for a brand spanking new one with a one year limited coverage on it (warranty). You can save up to 10 %. Or if you look at the apple online store there is always refurbished models there and ! have seen some of those up to 30% off with the coverage for a year. To be honest, my friend has a refurbished iPod and you can not tell the difference between his and a brand new one. It works like a charm!
I am sorry for my long winded response & I hope that everything works out for you!

  • Ipod mini, new computer help

    hi,
I recently got a new computer, I downloaded itunes, then plugged in my ipod to get the songs on the new version. Well it would only transfer songs I got from itunes, not songs I got from my cds.
The problem is, when I transfered songs to my itunes, it took them off my ipod. So, now I have songs I purhased from itunes in my itunes library, and songs that I got from my cds on my ipod. How do I get all songs on both my ipod and in my library. Whenever I plug my ipod in to my computer, it doesn't do anything. It will recognize it, but it won't do anything with the songs, even when I tell it to sync.
I did download copy pod to get songs off my ipod and into my library, but now those songs are no longer on my ipod either, just in my library.
    Help!!
    Sam

For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Mac Mini reboots restarts upon wake from sleep

Since 'upgrading' from Lion to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mini reboots (Restarts) whenever I wake it from sleep. I've applied every update hoping it will be fixed. Apple has been unable to resolve the issue short of their standard suggestion to reformat and reinstall from scratch. I've had to resort to disabling the energy saver.
A Google search turns up many similar complaints. Anyone have a fix or suggestion?
    Thanks

Did you get anywhere with this? I have the same problem i fear as per my separate post
