IPod mini reboots, restarts when scrolling (up)

Hi all,
I have an odd problem. I can turn on my mini, then try to navigate the menus, and I can scroll down just fine. When I try to scroll up, I reboots and shows the apple logo. Then it starts up just fine again.
I have tried restoring it and even running chkdsk on the disk for the heck of it (does that even do anything?), to no avail.
Any ideas?
Keith

By the way, this happened before I replaced the battery last night. The problem still exists with a new battery, and just now it showed the battery symbol with a . I don't think it is battery related though...

My Ipod mini syncs, but when I go to play, no sound.  I've tried multiple speakers and headphones. No Go.  What next?
My latest problem is that the Apple site will not recognize my equipment by it's serial number.  I know the mini is old, but I like what it did for me and don't necessarily want to "upgrade".

This is the iPad in the Enterprise forum. You'll be more likely to get help with your issue if you ask in the appropriate iPod forum.

  • Mac Mini reboots restarts upon wake from sleep

Since 'upgrading' from Lion to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mini reboots (Restarts) whenever I wake it from sleep. I've applied every update hoping it will be fixed. Apple has been unable to resolve the issue short of their standard suggestion to reformat and reinstall from scratch. I've had to resort to disabling the energy saver.
A Google search turns up many similar complaints. Anyone have a fix or suggestion?
    Thanks

Did you get anywhere with this? I have the same problem i fear as per my separate post

  • IPod mini reboots every time I turn it on

As of late, my 2nd gen. iPod mini has been acting up. It seems when I don't use it for longer than a few hours, it reboots when I turn it on. By reboots I mean it takes a few seconds showing nothing and then the apple sign comes on. Shortly after that the menu comes on and everything is as it should. After it reboots everything works properly and all my settings are still set. I guess its okay because it still works, but its quite annoying. Any suggestions?

The iPod goes into deep sleep after a period of inactivity of about 36 hours. If it's happenning after just 5 or 6 hours, that's not normal.
    You should try restoring it.
If this doesn't help, then you might consider just ignoring it. Rebooting in this manner isn't hurting your iPod although it's a nuisance.

  • Ipod Mini Locks Up When Using It With A JVC KS-PD100

Since I've updated my iPod mini to the latest version of the firmware it locks up when I use it with my "Made For iPod" JVC KS-PD100 adaptor.
This allows me to connect my ipod to my JVC car head unit and control it via the head unit.
It worked perfectly when I had the old firmware on the iPod, but now I have updated it to the latest version (after a warranty repair) I get the JVC logo appear on the screen and it all works fine with the head unit, but when I disconnect the iPod, the controls are still locked up. I then have to force a re-boot of the ipod to be able to use it again.
I've tried to download an older version of the ipod updater, but all the links I try give me the latest version of the updater when I come to install it.
    My questions are
    1. Has anybody else had this problem?
    2. Are apple aware of it?
    3. I'm guessing it's a software problem, or have I geen given a duff rarranty replacement?
    4. Where can I get a copy of the older ipod updater - preferrably the october version?
Any help would be most appreciated as I've e-mailed apple and had no reply at all!
    Thanks
    Ross

I've tried that already - but then the iPod is connected to the sterio, the iPod controls are disabled so I can't switch it off at all.
If I disconnect the iPod before turning the sterio off, the ipod stays playing until I reboot it
It worked perfectly on my old ipod with the old firmware, if I turned off the sterio, the JVC logo woulds disappear, the ipod would be paused and use of the clickwheel controls would be returned automatically.
I'm guessing it's a bug in the latest iPod firmware

  • Ipod mini not recognised when connected

When I connect my ipod mini to my laptop the ipod just freezes, and the laptop does not recognise it. Have tried all the suggestions on the ipod mini troubleshooting page and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Since this problem started, have you shut down (powered off) you computer, then started it up again?  I assume this iPod worked with this computer before, and it is not working now for some reason...
You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then connect it.  If that allows iTunes to recognize it, you may want to run a Restore on the iPod from its Summary tab (in iTunes).  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.

  • Ipod Mini is restarting my computer on it's own.

Everytime I connect my Ipod Mini to the USB port it then automatically restarts my computer. I’m not sure if this is because of my resent download of the new iTunes software. Does anyone else have this issue and how can it be resolved?

are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that file is too. (exact spelling please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • IPad mini rebooting/restarting constantly

i have a first gen iPad mini and it constantly reboot/restarts.
ive done all of the restarts/recoveruse, still no fix.
is this a hardware issue, and can not be fixed?
is the only fix, is to buy a new iPad?
we do not have an Apple Store anywhere close to my location.
    any input would be appreciated.

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • IPod mini random restarts

Hello there, the subject says it all really.
Every so often my mini will just restart; it mainly happens after I’ve left it a few or more hours, and when I return to use it, it restarts, today it even restarted halfway through a track.
It’s so random, it sometimes happen every-time it tries’s to come out of standby, or it may go a week working perfectly
    I’ve done a restore [1.4] and that hasn’t helped
So I’m wondering has anyone else had or heard of this problem and if so what did you do?

ok there are to things you can try
    first install the latest update
second run a virus scanner on the ipod the ipod should apear as a removable media drive in my computer on windows xp and a ipod icon on mac osx
    if that doesn't work
run a disk check utility on the ipod if the disk cheking utility finds any thing wrong with the ipod it will let you know
if all else fails send a extensive letter explaining what happens to apple repair shop and send it in but it sounds like a damaged hard drive to me but without running a disk check utility like scandisk for windows or the disk utility for mac os x i really can't think of anything else
also check you settings you may need to turn of the sleep function in the settings menu but if that doesn't work to a
apple repair shop i would recommend

  • IPod mini reboots with any button...

Does anyone have any idea why my mini will sometimes (occasionally repetitively) reboot when I press any button (or slide the lock button)?

This is getting really annoying as I can't use my iPod for music or contacts without it rebooting once or twice. This means that I end up waiting a minute to do things instead of 2 seconds. I'm always afraid of losing my on-the-go playlists if it randomly reboots when I click on a song to add to the playlist, or even if all I do is try to play the playlist.

  • IPod Nano 4th Restarts when I click the Klondike Game

It happens for many times, on music playing when I click Klondike game, the iPod restarts automatically, and the main menu items kind of restore to defaults. I don't remember if clicking other 2 games causes this too, but it did happen again on Klondike yesterday. Both my iMac and iPod Nano have most updated software.

My new nano chromatic gets stuck if I go to Klondike. I can play the game, but I can't get out of it without restarting the ipod. What's up?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod Mini Drains Itself when off

Fully charged a new battery and left the mini off for 12 hours and the battery is drained. There are no alarms on. Seems the mini wants to run even when it's off. Suggestions.

callibrate the battery that might help
You cannot calibrate the battery. This simply "calibrates" the battery meter.
