Ipod mini recognized by pc and not itunes

So I'm this close to demanding a refunding and never looking at another ipod product ever again, but I'm going to make one last try. This is my second Ipod in having only owned it for 3 months.
My Ipod mini when plugged in is recognized by my computer and says the device is ready to be used. When I open itunes the icon for the ipod sometimes appears. When it does grace me with it's presence and I try to transfer music it doesn't actually do anything. It looks like it's transfering, but nothing new appears on the ipod when it is finished.
Buddy at apple says it might be a driver problem. How do I fix that? Windows is up to date and it's the one providing the drivers for the usb ports. My printer and camera all work just fine off the other ports in the grouping.
Someone must know something. And please no links to apple manuals or other info they have to offer. None of it works and I have tried it all. (ie restoring, restarting, software removeal and re installation, restarting computer, up to date programs....it goes on and on.)
Help!
ipod mini   Windows XP

I hear ya angie, I and MANY others (see post started by KorosDragon) have had this problem. My problem is, sometimes I plug it in and everything is fine and dandy (iPod mini recognized by iTunes, I can transfer music fine, etc.), but other times like today, nothing is working. I'm at the point of selling this stupid thing and buying something more Windows-compatible, like an iRiver. So if you're under warranty and can just return yours and get a refund, I highly suggest you do so and find an mp3 player that's more compatible with Windows and a PC. Apple clearly has no clue as to what's going on with this issue (from reading other users' posts about how fruitless visits to the Apple Store have been), and it isn't in their best interest to find out.

  • IPod is recognized only in Windows not iTunes

Basically, my iPod Touch 4G does not show up on iTunes, it only charges when plugged in by USB. Windows recognizes it, but iTunes doesn't seem to. My iPod is recognized on another computer, but seeing as I have all my music on this computer I have no interest in using another.
    I have tried the following:
    - Restoring my iPod (from different PC)
    - Restarting PC
    - Restarting iPod
    - Re-installing iTunes (around 8-10 times)
    - Updating to latest software on iOS & iTunes
    - Connecting using brand-new USB
I have failed. I am ready to give up on my iPod and get rid of it. Does anyone know the fix..?

Did you also try to remove all Apple related software before you reinstalled iTunes again? Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista and 7

  • My ipod is recognized by windows but not itunes

Ok, I had trouble with my 4gb black nano when I had to install it, i used TrevorQ's tip and it worked.
Now I need to update some songs on my ipod and it wont recognize it now
    6.05.20 Itunes

I cant end the "IpodService.exe" process

See if anything here helps: iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Ipod is recognized by windows but not itunes

i got a 4gb nano and when i connect my ipod to my computer it dosnt show up in itunes i reinstalled everything but it still wont work

    hiya!
okay, we'd better check through the usual suspects:
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Ipod partially recognized by windows and not at all by itunes

I haven't been able to find any1 else with this problem but when I connect my ipod to my computer(using either USB 2.0 or firewire) the "Do not disconnect" screen appears on the ipod and then it just sits there. (it also charges but ya) The ipod does appear in the Device Manager but doesn't appear in "My Computer" as any kind of disk. I tried restore, disk mode, update(took a long time and then said "can't mount ipod"), uninstalling ipod drivers and itunes and reinstalling them, restarted numerous times; all with no effect. Also, my computer does this with other people's ipods as well. I'm slightly frustrated as this seems to be a completely unheard of problem.

    hmmmm.
-when I first tried to install the drivers windows said they were up to date, then I clicked uninstall drivers and tried updating them but still had the same problem.
if the ipod is asking for drivers, but Windows says they are up-to-date, we'd better check on the possibility that it's a "fake" message.
i've seen a couple of cases lately where that message seemed to be being caused by a general connection problem that was horribly confusing Device Manager. (in one case it was a bad cable, in another, it was apparently some scruffiness on the PC's hard drive.)
so, let's see if you've got one of those. let's try the "general connection problem" techniques from this document and see if any of those help:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod

  • Another iPod Mini showing in XP but not iTunes.

I think the subject pretty much says it all.
Up until this week, my Ipod was connecting into iTunes without problem, then all of a sudden it is being picked up by windows but iTunes doesn't see anything, nor does the auto updater. (At least I can keep it charged with the music I already have on it)
Have tried reinstalling itunes, resetting the ipod and upgrading to itunes v6, none of which have actually helped.
Have been going through the discussions since it happened trying to find a solution, and so far nothing, and more advice from the community or Apple itself would be greatly appreciated.

Stompie, you might want to consider reinstalling something called Apple Mobile Device Support, which is what allows the iPod touch and iPhone to communicate with the computer. Part of what makes the iPod touch be recognized as a camera only is a malfunctioning AMDS.
    Go to your Applications folder
    Drag iTunes.app to the Trash
    Navigate to: Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/
    Drag AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg to the trash
    Navigate to: Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions/
    Drag AppleMobileDevice.kext to the trash
    Restart the Mac
    Empty the Trash
    Download & install from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Reinstalling iTunes won't change any of your preferences or library media, so you don't have to worry about losing your music or any of its data, although a good backup is always a good idea.
    Hope this is helpful

Ive followed the support site on what to do if the iPod is recognized in Windows but not iTunes... but to no avail.
ive had a 20GB photo thats been working o.k. (need to send it in) but now neither it nor my new 30GB Video will appear on iTunes... just in windows.... any suggestions? or should i just call up apple...
p.s. i know its not the iPods cause they update fine on my sisters laptop...

Does it say Cannot Mount iPod?
Is the software on your computer up to date? You may want to try reinstalling it as well...
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Update iPod's Software
Also, try right clicking on the iPod (in My Computer) and go to format. Does anything happen?

  • My ipod is recognized in windows but not in itunes. I ran the troubleshooter and followed all of the steps to fix it....itunes still does not recognize my ipod.  Anyone know how to fix this?

My ipod is recognized in windows but not in itunes. It shows up in devices and gives me the ok to eject prompt, so I know that the connection is good. I ran the troubleshooter and did all the recommended fixes.  Hours and hours later, I still have the same problem. I uninstalled itunes and all its folders, restarted the apple device services and changed the drive letter. Checked my security settings and everything else I can think of. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Did you remove all Apple related software including QuickTime, Safari, Software Update utility for Windows, etc using the exact instructions in this Apple support document?

Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port and not a USB or similar?  Have you tried different cables to help rule out a faulty or damaged cable?
Does it connect to iTunes okay on another PC or Mac?

Before you reinstall the Apple software, also remove iCloud vi Control Panel Remove programs. The reinstall the Apple programs

  • I have an ipod mini....and I have an Ipod jack in my 2007 Honda Accord

My Ipod mini will not play in my car but my son's Ipod touch does. The handbook in the car says I need a Ipod later then generation 3 or 4 I cannot remember is there anyway to fix or update to newer software??

    Hi,
Unfortunately, the iPod Mini was from 2004, and only had 2 Generations. If you have an Aux out, then I'd use that, as that will work. The earliest iPod that most cars support is the 5th Gen Video.

  • IPhone 5 is recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes (OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 10.7, iPhoto 7.1.5)

I am helping a friend with her new iPhone 5.
Issue is that it is recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes.
    iPhone 5 16GB, iOS 6.1.4
    OSX 10.6.8v1.1, iTunes 10.7, iPhoto 7.1.5
Computer: iMac C2D 2.4 GHz (Early 2008)(iMac8,1), 1 GB RAM,
History, recently updated in-place from 10.5.8 Leopard to 10.6.8v1.1 SL, just for the iPhone 5.
Installed iTunes 10.7 (as we do not like interface and loss of separate Playlist view in iTunes 11).
Noted that iPhone 5 stipulates that iTunes 10.7 or higher is required -- So should be OK there.
Initially iPhone was recognized by both iPhoto and iTunes. Then shortly later, iTunes did not see it anymore, was missing from iTunes Devices list.
Called Apple Support, agent walked us through removing iTunes and the iTunes Receipt packages.
Then Reinstalled iTunes 10.7. Ran Permissions Repair. Restarted computer.
Seemed all good, iTunes (10.7) saw and synced and updated the iPhone.
But Now, after two or three weeks, when user plugged in her iphone and ran iTunes, it did not show the iPhone at all, though iPhoto did start up and show pictures.
So the iMac computer sees the iPhone5 well enough to get picture data, but apparently not well enough for iTunes sync.
(she tends to use the wall charger and not plug it into the iMac very much at all).
In all other known respects, both the iPhone5 and the iMac C2D seem to function normally.
    Any thoughts?
I looked at KB article: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
And at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 (iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X).
And finally am thinking we may need to ALSO do the uninstall via: https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747 (Remove Apple Mobile Device Service).  But I have not visited with here to do that yet.........)
Any thoughts on best way to proceed?
    Thanks.

What error message ar eyou getting. Why do you say it will not allow you to download?
Verify you meet all the system requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • HT1363 my ipod format is exfat(default) and not go back to fat32

my ipod format is exfat(default) and not go back to fat32 but in the properties is corectly fat32

If a restore of the iPod via iTunes does not address the issue, it's likely hardware related.  You'll need to have your iPod's screen replaced either by Apple, a third party repair company, or yourself.
