Ipod mini replacement batteries

Has anyone actually bought a replacement battery online and replaced it themselves? Was it pretty easy to do? I know my battery is shot, I haven't been able to use my ipod for a while now and am hoping that buying a replacement battery will be my ipod back up and running. Just wanted to hear from anyone who's done this.

This web site has a lot of great repair guides, including for the iPod mini
http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Mini
Also, if you search on YouTube, there seem to be videos of the procedure.
(On a side note, if the tiny hard drive in your iPod mini ever goes bad, you can supposedly replace it with a standard compact flash card.)

  • IPod mini replacement

I was wondering; since I had just ordered a repair courier for my iPod mini, about the same time the package arrived the iPod nano was released, since I was already getting a bran new mini I was wondering if I could like give apple like 50 bucks and they could replace my mini with a nano. Is there any possibility of a swap and if you don't know please just post a place where I could contact apple because I seem to be having difficulty finding a support email.

    Nick,
No, there is no chance of you replacing the mini with a nano. Apple do not do this. The replacement iPod you get, will be the same model you sent in.

  • Mini Ipod Battery Replacement Trouble

    Hey guys,
I bought a ipod mini replacement battery from this site:
    http://store.l-f-l.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?pg=prod&ref=EC003
I installed it carefully and everything just like the directions told me to and it looked great. But the only problem is the sound does not work, it works when i place it on one of my ipod music players but you cannot hear anything with it by itself and the headphones, and i know it is not the headphones because i checked it to make sure...
Does anyone know what is wrong or what I should do?
Mini Ipod (1st generation)   Windows XP

    1. You will get back an identical iPod (same generation, same engraving, same color).
    2. The new iPod will be blank, so you'll have to put the sngs onto it through iTunes, like getting a new iPod.
    I hope this helps!
By the way, it is a lot easier to read your post if you type normally, not in one very long sentence.

  • Ipod mini playlist

I recently had my original ipod mini replaced with a new one due to a faulty battery. I have connected up my new ipod and wanted to transfer my original playlist onto this new ipod. It has since produced two play lists. One is the old list and the new one is "in shadow" so I can't access it or change it. I have tried clicking in every concievabel part of the page but it will not highlight the list so that I can change it.
Can anyone tell me how I can get this list to be active for me to use.
      Windows XP

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.
Please note that by editing/changing the songs on your iPod in this manner, the changes will not affect the songs in iTunes, only on your iPod.

  • Ipod mini wont turn on or charge

I really need some help with this one... i recently got my 2nd gen blue ipod mini replaced by apple and the new one they sent worked for approx 3 days and now wont turn on or reset...i figure the battery has run flat but when i plug it into my usb the charging battery comes up on the screen but is stuck on the 1st bar and wont move...i have tried resetting the ipod while it is plugged in but the charging battery symbol goes away for a second and comes back. What do i do?!?!?

It may be that your USB port is not delivering enough power to charge properly. Try an AC adapter or car charger, or USB on another computer.

  • IPod mini battery replacement

I am in the midst of testing my iPod mini for the battery replacement program. My question is if I qualify for the program, will I be sent a new iPod mini, or the current equivalent, an iPod nano?
Any help at all will be appreciatied!

The information on this page says that your replacement will be functionally equivalent to the original, which suggests that you will be sent another iPod mini. You might get sent one of a different color, and if your original iPod mini is gold, you will definitely get another color.

  • Help, someone!  I just sent away for a replacement battery for my Ipod Mini

and it's working well now. I was wrong. What can I do? Can I call Apple and cancel my order?
What happened was that over the last few weeks, I noticed that the battery was not working well.... I was charging the Ipod like normal.... 4 hours or so... and after about 2 hours or less, the battery was dead again. I know that when I bought it a year and half ago, it used to last alot longer, like 8 hours? so anyway, I decided to try something today. I decided to charge it until I got the message in the window that says "charged" and then just put it on and put it on shuffle, just to play non stop songs and to see how long it lasts.... so far it's going on 3 hours.... hmmm... I think I can go without a new battery for now. Until its completely useless and the battery works no more. So how can I cancel my order? Anyone know? Thanks guys. I KNOW that eventually, probably soon, in the next 6 mos. or less, I would end up having to get a new one anyway, but I just wanted to save some money now as it was expensive.
Or, what do you think guys? Should I just get the **** battery as 2 to 3 hours is not enough? I just use it at the gym and that's all. lol sorry for the long post.

    H there,
Thanks for the reply. You also got me thinking... an Ipod mini should last charged for 8hrs or so... so its definitely under the standard. I guess I figured I can live on 3 hours of charge, but I have had it for almost a year and half... and I have a gut feelling that if I dont get the battery replaced, in about 3 more months or so, the battery will be totally depleted and I would have to send it in anyway..... so I might as well do it now. lol
I guess I was trying to get the most out of the Ipod before I spend so much (it's 70 bucks! with tax. LOL).... before I send it in. But oh well. Might as well get it over with.
    hey thanks for the reply.

  • Replacement iPod mini issues

My iPod mini froze, so I took it to Best Buy and they replaced it with a new one. They just switched the iPod's so I didn't get the ID for it, that means I can't register it. When I plug it into my computer, it says I need to run the iPod update. I do that and it says "Internal Error." My computer doesn't recognize my iPod after that. What do I do?

You don't need ID to register your iPod, all you need is the serial number on the bottom of the iPod. It's very small and it should be the first line after the square with how many GB your iPod has..right under it.

  • Transfer of library to replacement iPod mini

How can I transfer my existing iTunes library (currently on iPod mini [1st generation]) to my new replacement iPod (2nd generation)? Do I need to install the disc that came with the new iPod? If I want to install the new disc on my work computer (vs. home where the old is currently installed), can I transfer the library to the other computer?

IPods do not directly transfer Libraries between themselves. I assume that you have a complete iTunes Library on one of the PCs, yes?
Just charge up the new Mini, download the most recent Updater software, install the Updater software, then run it to format the new Mini for windows use. Just connect the Mini to your iTunes and it will sync with the Library.
See this link for several methods to transfer your Library to another computer:

  • Replace the hard drive in my iPod Mini with CompactFlash Card?

Hi. I just dropped my mini (a whole 4 feet) and now it's broken. The drive is busted. I can hear it just clicking away and then I get the un-happy mac icon. Since it's past its warrantee and I don't have apple care for it, either I replace the hard drive or chuck it in the trash. I'm going to try the first one. I open it up and pulled out the Hitachi 4GB mini hard drive. It appears to just be a CompactFlash Card drive. My question is this:
Can I replace it with any Compact Flash Card?
I was thinking about replacing it with a regular card (i.e. no micro drive with delicate spinning parts). I figure it will be more durable and possibly extend the battery life. I think I can get atleast a 2GB card, which is what I presume they use in the nano.
    Thanks

Technically, you could replace the drive in your iPod. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you do it. After you replace the drive, just restore the iPod through the iPod restore software. After you restore your iPod, you can then use your iPod just like before. One thing I would like to point out is that the Nano uses a flash drive, not a hard drive so there is no point in trying to match a drive with the nano drive. Anyways, you may find the site http://www.ifixit.com helpful when you take on this task. I would also google "replacing iPod mini hard drive" just so you can get some insight before you take the task on.

  • Problem With Replacement ipod mini

    Hi,
I have just received my replacement iopd mini. I have downloaded the latest software for both itunes and ipod. All I can hear is static when playing the music on the ipod mini. Can anyone help

Try restoring the iPod to factory settings, then reload the songs from iTunes.
If this doesn't alter the situation, you may be forced to send this one back also.

  • Help! Got replacement ipod mini and instructions are bad!

I got my replacement ipod mini today in the mail, and was trying to follow the instructions to convert it from a Mac OS X operating system to a Windows XP (compatible with my computer) operating system. The instructions say that I have to go to www.apple.com/ipod/download and get the latest ipod updater. All that does is let me download the latest itunes, which I now have. Then it says to run the ipod updater by going to 'all programs' on the start menu, selecting "ipod" (there is, however, no 'ipod' option on my start menu) and selecting ipod updater. I can't do this. I looked on my hard drive under program files and there is a folder called "ipod" but it doesn't seem to have an updater in it - all it has is this weird file called "bin" in it, and in that file is a thing called "Ipodservice module" but when I click it, it doesn't open.
supposedly, if I were to open this updater thing, the instructions say that a window would open up displaying various ipod models and corresponding software versions that the updater will install. Then I was supposed to plug in my ipod and click the 'restore' button to update it to Windows XP.
So, since I don't seem to have any ipod updaters that work on my computer, and I can't find a way to download this mysterious program given the website listed on the instructions apple sent me, how on earth am I supposed to convert this thing to windows XP? I'm afraid to plug it into the computer without running this updater thing first because I have no idea if I'll screw it up or not (and I just went through the irritating process of getting a replacement ipod, so I don't really want to take chances). Does itunes 7 just update the ipod for you, without an updater? Please, somebody help!

Um, new problem. I plugged in the ipod and my computer won't even recognize it. It doesn't show up in itunes, and since it doesn't even appear on my hard drive or on the lower right hand screen icons, I can't properly disconnect it. I think I have now screwed it up, beause I unplugged it and plugged it in again and now the battery charge icon isn't moving - it appears to be frozen. Any suggestions? I hope I haven't ruined this brand new ipod.

  • Apple replaced ipod mini

I received my replacement ipod mini and I am trying to check to see which mini they sent me -- the 8 hour or the 18 hour battery one. Is there any way to check? I know how to find the info (serial number, hard drive size, etc.) but the battery life doesn't seem to be available.

this is a stupid question, but how can you tell if it's a first or second generation mini? mine is still under warranty, so i'm assuming it must be a second generation, since it was so recently purchased. any idea?

  • REPLACEMENT IPOD MINI

My IPod has been stolen and I have a new one on the way.
How do I plug it in so that I can use my existing Itunes library.
Is it that easy or do I need to set up a new link??
    Hope someone can help me.

I have just recieved my replacement ipod mini. It currently is not recognised by my PC, the depleted battery icon appears. I have left it plugged into the pc for over two hours, and still no change. I have also tried charging it with the AC plug adaptor, but this tells me the ipod is fully charged. As soon as I take it out of the charger, it goes dead. If i try to plug it back into the pc , it gives me the depleted battery icon again and won't recognise it. I have rest it numerous times and -reinstalled ipod updates and i tunes. PLEASE HELP???????????
