Ipod Mini Reset

I have attempted to restore my Ipod mini to factory settings, now the display has an icon of an AC wall charger showing on it. This means I have to plug the Ipod into the wall charger to complete the Restore....PROBLEM, I do not have a wall charger...only the cradle with USB port which is pluged to my IMac - QUESTION: Is there any way to by pass this step without the wall charger ?
Thanks,
Clueless IPOD Owner.

Most iMacs have a 6-pin FireWire port; plug the iPod to your computer with a FireWire cable to complete the process. If your computer doesn't have a working FireWire port, you can use a car adaptor to complete the update process.
Early iMacs did not include FireWire ports, but Mac OS X 10.4 will not install on them without the use of XPostFacto.

  • Problem w/ipod mini reseting/charging

I've been having a problem with my ipod mini (2nd. gen 4gb) not fulling charging even after 8 hours and then shutting itself off and reseting after a few minutes of use. I've read some of the posts and couldn't really find a solution yet. I've tried reseting manually while plugged in to my computer (I don't have a wall plug-in adapter) I made sure I'm fully updated (v. 1.4) and have not yet reset it to factory settings, I'm hoping not to have to do that because I have a huge library of music on my computer and do not want to have issues reloading some of it onto my ipod. I have started the process to send it in for repairs but an afraid I will be charged the diagnostic fees (I can't afford the possible $100) I've got a dark spot in my lcd screen in the upper corner and a few scratches on the case from being transported in my purse with my keys but other than that it hasn't been traumatized in any way (never dropped etc.) I'm thinking about going to my local apple store tomorrow to see if they can help. I just want to know that if I cancel my repair order before sending in my ipod that I won't be charged anything and also if I do end up sending it back that it won't be sent back with a bill unrepaired. Please help me I got this a few months ago for my birthday and cannot afford to buy a new one if this ones broken and not repairable!

Ok so I charged it all night and took it off this morning and as soon as I turned it on and toldit to play a song so I could try calibrating the battery it said low battery and shut off again! It showed it was still charging on the screen, I unmountedit from my computer showed an almost full battery then jumped to half full then shut off. I'm getting so incredibly frustrated with this thing, somebody please help me out here!

  • Ipod Mini reset itself while playing

Don't know if this is an issue or not. I was playing my songs shuffled and in the middle of a song the ipod shut off and reset itself. The ipod is only 1 day old, just wondering if this is a problem or what could have caused this. It had almost a full charge at the time.

    Hi BB,
Thats amazing, 1 day old iPod Mini.
The first thing you should try is the "The Five Rs".

  • Unique ipod mini reset problem?

This is what happens when I try to reset when connected to either ac or mac computer fireware. The screen goes from 1. APPLE to 2. FILE ! to 3. diskmode charging do not disconnect and repeat over and over again. Each of the 3 screens last around 20 seconds. My cables and ports are good, work with other ipod. Neither is it recognised in itunes or desktop so I am unable to either update or restore. It is out of warranty by 4 months and no apple care. Ive tried all possible solutions to the T listed in support

  • IPod mini reset itself, all songs gone

Help! I turned on my mini last night to find the language screen asking what language I wanted...then I found that all my songs and playlists were gone. I'm away from my home computer all summer so is there any way I can get those songs back? I miss them already!

Laura, I wish I had an answer, but I'm posting hoping that someone else will answer too. I encountered the same problem last night. I turned on my mimi last night at the gym and all the songs, playlists, everything, were GONE! I tried to copy the playlist to my mini when I got home, and the Powerbook and iTunes recognized the iPod, and let me copy the playlist over, and I could see the playlist in iTunes through the computer but when I ejected the mini from the computer, nothing was on the mini. I'm at a loss.

  • Ipod mini resets with most button presses

First it was the menu button. Then it was the previous song button. Now, when trying to listen to music, the iPod resets (shows the Apple logo) whenever i press menu, play/pause, next, or previous. It also resets most times I press the select button. Restoring and resetting have not worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had the same problem I replaced the cliker wheel and now I have nothing in the means of making it scroll

  • IPod mini Battery & Reset Problems - So Annoying!

    Hi Everyone!
My first post and it's a problem!
I bought the second generation iPod mini back at the very end of February this year. I love it to bits and i've used it every single day since i got it! I charge it whenever i need to (mostly every other day!).
But recently in the last 3/4 weeks its started to play up. It now resets itself at least 2/3 times a day and has started to become really annoying. The iPod will now no-longer charge fully at all, and it's says the battery's dead, and then it'll grow again! The battery symbol and the battery text will also come up frequently!
This is really starting to get on my nerves!
What can i do, i've only had it for nearly 8 months!
Please help and offer any suggestions!
    Rich!

    Hi Richard,
Sounds like you're having the same problem as me (I posted in a seperate post same time as you!!)
Hope someone can help us out, can't face having to send mine to Apple to be fixed and be without it for a week or two!!!

  • My IPod mini appears to be working, but I do not get any sound.  I have reset it, but that didn't help.  Is it possible that when it was exposed to a lot of sweat it shorted the speaker card?

My Ipod mini will not produce sound.  I have reset it, still no sound.  The only thing that I think might be causing this (and I want to know if I am correct) I carried it in my  hand while walking in extream heat.  The perspiration may have gotten in the device.

Be sure to try another set of headphones, if you have one.
Since you already did a Reset, the next thing you can try is to go to the Settings screen on the iPod (from the main screen).  There should be an option at the bottom that says something like Reset All Settings.  Choose that option to reset iPod to default settings.
If that does not bring back the sound, the next thing to try is a Restore in iTunes.  Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  The Restore button is there.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is a software or settings glitch, a Restore should fix it.  Try putting a few songs on the iPod to check if there is improvement.
If that does not bring back the sound, it is probably a hardware problem.  A fix would then require replacing whatever part is faulty inside the iPod.  It could be the headphone jack or something on the logic board.  Moisture getting inside could have caused the problem, but it could just be age; maybe the headphone jack is just worn out.

  • Trying to restore my old ipod mini so I can recycle it. But it is locked with my old password, long forgotten. Do I have to reset my current pw

Trying to restore my old ipod mini to factory settings, so I can recycle it. But it is locked with my old password, long forgotten. Do I have to reset my current pw & will that unlock my old mini if I do? Would appreciate detail. Thank you.
PS: It was windows based, I'm now on imac.

I've tried a lot of the stuff mentioned at that link and elsewhere, modifying host files etc. trying to downgrade my iPhone 4 back to 5.1.1 no luck , apple has locked up 5.1.1 for my phone and iPad . one post said I'm "stuck with iOS 6" darn I should have been more careful. I have the 5.1.1 Ispw on my MacBook its a permissions thing I don't understand. I'll post when I find a way around it and I will . iOS 6 took away most of my AirPlay functionality . to hek with iPhone 5 I'm starting to look at android. big bummer apple

  • IPod Mini's select button only works to perform reset

I have a first generation iPod Mini which has an unresponsive select button. It will only function to reset the Mini (Menu + Select).
I have restored the iPod Mini with both the June 2006 iPod Updater and iTunes 7.0.2, and performed many a reset. Nothing appears to have helped.
    Any ideas?

    "i bought a broken mini"
You knew it was broken when you bought it - You really have no-one to blame but yourself.
At any rate... You might try a third party repair service. I see ipodresq recommended on these forums quite a bit.
    Good luck.
    Cheers!

  • Ipod mini won't reset

My Ipod mini won't reset. Help!

    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. BTW, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
    9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.

  • My ipod mini keeps resetting

Help!!! Ive only had my ipod mini for less than a year and its going nuts. At first the menu button wasnt functioning at all so i tried resetting it yesterday and when I woke up this morning the backlight was turning on and off and it was continually resetting itself. PLEASE HELP!

To put the iPod into forced disk mode, this is what you should be doing.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
    Have you also seen this?
iPod shows only an Apple logo and doesn't start up.

  • Resetting my iPod mini

Why is it so hard to reset my iPod mini ?? I've toggled the hold button, I pressed the Menu and Play/Pause buttons like what the site told me to but somehow the Apple icon doesn't seem to appear. Can somebody help? I've tried resetting before and it worked but I don't know why it failed this time around. I was wondering, does your iPod have to be fully charged before you reset it? Because mine seems to be charging forever!
Any special techniques on how to reset my iPod so the apple logo will appear? I've been up all night trying to reset my iPod!

    Press "select"+"Menu" = Reset
Press "select"+"play" = Put it in Disk Mode (you may need to plug it with the AC charger)

  • Please help - ipod mini frozen - can't reset or restore!

I saw several posts on this topic, and followed the advice given. I've tried to reset the ipod by toggling the hold switch and then holding down the menu and select button at the same time (at least 20x's, and being careful to only hold down the correct buttons). Not having luck with resetting, I tried to do a restore, however when I start to run the ipod updater, and it asks me to connect the ipod, the updater doesn't recognize it.
It's frozen in the pause position at the start of a song and nothing I do helps! Although it's still under warranty I really don't want to have to send it in to apple, so I sure hope someone can help me.
