Ipod mini screen problem

Well I just won an 4GB 2nd gen iPod mini and I just received it the other day. I followed the instructions in the quick start book (charged batteries, installed software, etc). Only problem is my screen's contrast becomes extremely faint after a minute or two of use. Once I turn it on, it is OK to use with contrast set at about 2/3's. Moments after I must turn it up to maximum and it is still VERY faint and continues to worsen with use. I've tried resetting it (using menu + select... I can barely see the apple symbol as well), upgrading the ipod software to 1.4, restoring it. Everything that I've been told to do. What should I do as I do not have an apple service center anywhere around here (gladstone, QLD, australia)?
Thanks

HI Jesy,
Try with formatting ur i-pod. U can format ur i-pod using the iTunes r directly by selecting the drive in explorer(windows) and right click->Format Drive. Hope this will solve ur problem

Ipod mini screen has gone dark, and when backlight goes on the centre part with writing etc is almost black with light around edge. will this go? do i need to send it back?

Maybe your backlight is burning out? That's what I would think when the center is black but the edges have light. I'm not sure if a reset would fix the backlight but you can try (hold the menu and center buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo and then release). If I were I'd send it back to Apple but do you know if you are still under warranty? You should be if you've had your iPod less than a year.

  • Fading Ipod Mini Screen!!!! Contrast problems!!

Okay, so i just sent my messed up ipod to apple and then sent me back a brand new one. Everythings fine cept the screen keeps fading and once in a while it will go back to normal again. I thought the contrast was not up far enough but it is up all the way!! Please help, i dont want to have to send it in again

    Hi Dylanthegamer,
If you are having issues with the Contrast setting on you iPod Mini, you may find the information on page 53 of the following manual helpful:
If the Screen Is Too Light or Too Dark
    1  Select Settings > Contrast.
2  Use the Click Wheel to adjust the contrast.
If you accidentally set the screen contrast too light or too dark, you can reset it to the
default by pressing and holding the Menu button for about 4 seconds.

  • IPod Mini updating problem

A friend of mine sold me his old iPod mini for a few bucks, giving me only the USB connector. Just earlier, when I downloaded iTunes, and updated the iPod software, it told me to then plug my iPod into a wall plug, and a picture of this on my screen then appeared. The problem is.. I don't have one, I'm using my computer to charge it, and now the icon on the screen will not go away. What can I do to get rid of it?

When updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see that icon displayed. It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.

Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • Wall Charger Picture on My Ipod Mini Screen

After selecting to restore my ipod mini, the program instructed me to plug in the ipod using a wall charger. I plugged in the ipod using the charger and now the ipod just shows a picture of the wall charher on the screen.
I think the charger might be bad, even though it is new. My ipod charges when plugged into my computer; however, now my computer will not acknowledge the ipod until the restore is completed. Any ideas.
    Thanks

I had the same problem with the AC adapter icon never going off ,even when I had it plugged into the wall. I took it to Circuit City (they had a free clinic this week.) They tried everything too, as a last resort they plugged it in using a firewire. That did the trick, fixed it. I think they sell firewires for around $30. Hope this helps.

  • My ipod mini screen fades after charging

I have a ipod mini ( which i love) but lately when i charge it, the screens contrast fades drastically to where i almost cant see anything on it. i can fix it by bumping the contrast up...my question is, why is it doing this , and is this a sign of a bigger problem?

unfortunately to be certain you would have to bring it to an apple store.  but seeing as its old anyway and you are two hours from the nearest store you may want to replace it.  which ipod is it...2gen?  if it is then you will want to send it to be fixed as it is hard to do yourself.  The battery is soldered in and it is tricky to replace especially for a novice.  there are sites that you can send your ipod to that will replace it for you and on the cheap in comparison to apple.
here is one that i know people have used with good resaults.

  • Ipod Mini Screen is blank but lit.

I have an Ipod Mini about 18 months old. Recently the screen lights up but is totally blank, no apple logo, no menus, etc.
Reset does not do anything. Totally discharging the battery
and then trying reset does nothing.
I tried to update the internal software but the only option
available is "Restore", "Update" is grayed out. I can hear the songs, just no way to choose one.
    Can anyone help?

  • IPOD MINI&UPDATER PROBLEM!! THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!

    Hello guys
I just downloaded the newest iPod updater 2006-01-10 for my brother's iPod mini. There was an update necessary. So then I install it, plug the iPod into my computer, and it determines that update is necessary. So I then update it. Normal routine. But when it says "please leave the iPod connected while it reboots" or something of that sort, it stays like that. Its not frozen, and Windows still responds. When I try to exit the program, it says "Can't interrupt process." So then I just remove the Mini from with Safely Remove Hardware. Now here's where it gets spookier and weirder. After I disconnect the Mini, I try to play a song. It plays. I try to forward to the next song. It doesn't! I try to rewind to the last song. It doesn't!! I reset the iPod then try it again. It still doesn't! It pauses, plays, and click wheel respongs, but it just doesn't wanna forward/rewind. So then I connect the Mini to my computer, and open the updater, thinking to restore the Mini. Then this dialogue comes up, saying "iPod service error." I can't even restore now. I tried the same thing with the updater 2005-11-17, and does the same thing to me. What is wrong? Has anyone had this similar or same problem? Is this because of the updater? Now I think I have no choice but to bring it to Apple store...if I can't find a solution to this. Please!! Help!! Thank you!!

Oh and by the way when I keep holding the forward/rewind button, it can still search (if thats what its called) meaning that I can still go to a certain point in a song I choose so that I can start listening from there.

  • Ipod mini transfer problem

I have the same problem with my ipod mini. It gets filled up at around 4 G and it is a 6 GB ipod. It was working fine and one day I turned it on and I had no songs on it. Tried to restore the songs. Restore ipod everything updated... and it gets filled up at 4 GBs.Can there be a song that blocks the ipod. Maybe the album art of some songs are to big I have no idea? What can i do about it?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Ipod mini sound problem

i got my mini a few years ago and its had a bad phase a few months ago when i had to send it back because the battery wouldn't last that long at all, so anyway they sent it back to me and said it was fixed only for a bit and then another problem has arouse and its just started not playing music at all, i looked at this forum and people have had same problems and they have been told to reset the ipod. i did that and its still not playing music

  • IPod Mini ~Major Problem

Ive had my iPod Mini for 2 years roughly I think now and havent had any major problems at all.
Yesterday its started playing songs without my touching any buttons and skipping to the next song in exactly the same place as the one before started ~ 2.05 minutes.
When I turned it off it still continued to play random songs.
I tried playing a song it played for two seconds then skipped to the next and played that for a bit then skipped to the next until the playlist had finished where it then returned to the main menu and played a completely random song not even on the playlist i chose previously.
I have not misued my ipod, dropped it, spilt water on it or damaged it in any way.
I have restored it to Main Factory settings and it has done nothing.
If any of you have experienced the same problem or have any ideas of how to help please reply.
    I would be truely grateful

    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
If does not work, please find a Mac computer
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
I could be wrong, I believe that it could have some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, doing a full format can only solve 80-90%

  • Dropped Ipod Mini/Screen Damaged

I dropped my Ipod Mini and the screen is partially damaged. I would like to get this repaired. I do have the Apple Protection Plan but not sure if this would be covered.
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Blair

    No, it is not covered.
If Apple would even repair it, they usually charge $209 plus shipping plus tax.

  • IPod Touch Screen Problems

I understand some of the early iPod Touch screens had terrible screen problems. I have purchased an iPod Touch as a Christmas gift. I fear it may have screen problems. Can anyone out there tell me if Touches with serial numbers:
    1A737XXXX
are ok or not? Should I try to exchange this before Christmas to avoid a big disappointment??
It is past the 14 day return/exchange date so I'd have to get special permission from the store to exchange it, obviously. But if the screen is bad on Christmas day they will have to exchange it anyway. What do you all think?
    Thanks!

yea usually those do have the problem but that depends on how picky u are with ur blacks. I still think that you should try it first and see how ur own preferences work. Otherwise, you would never be satisfied with an ipod always thinking that it will have this "disease" you have ever even experienced before.

  • IPod Mini Screen Protector/Invisable Shield

Hello. I have a question about two seprate products. Could someone link me to some screen protectors for the iPod Mini? Also, could someone link me to some full body clear protectors for the iPod Mini? Thank you!

    Bob,
Do a search on Google. I try not to spoon-feed answers to people, especially links that have nothing to do with iPod's functionality.
