IPod mini stuck on hold

My mini is locked and I cannot get the hold to turn off. I have tried restoring it several times and nothing. When the restore is complete, I get the language menu on the screen, but I cannot navigate with the click wheel. I can sync and add/remove songs from it in iTunes, but still I cannot operate any of the buttons. Once I disconnet the usb cable, it will auto shutoff after a couple of minutes and I cannot get it to power back on unless I plug it back in. I have tried and let it sit to drain the battery before recharging and restoring, no luck.

The slider might have become disconnected from the switch inside. If it was me I would open it and see if I could put it back on or investigate if the switch itself was still working. However I am comfortable doing stuff like that.
On the other hand, if the iPod is completely unusable as it is, you don't have much to lose.

  • IPod mini stuck on Hold after changing battery

I just replaced the battery on my 4gb iPod Mini. prior to changing the battery, I moved the "lock" switch to the locked position (per the battery vendor's instructions). I replaced my battery & have twice restored the Mini to it's original settings, but the lock icon won't disappear when I toggle the switch. when I slide the as a result, I can't play anything. I can add music/podcasts to the Mini, but I can't play them. does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Try resetting the iPod mini by holding in the center button along with the up button. Hold it in until you see the Apple logo appear. If resetting it doesn't work, let me know.

  • My iPod is stuck on hold

my ipod is stuck on hold. i already tried toggling the switch back and forth and nothing happens. even when i turn my hold switch off the padlock icon still shows up. i even restored my ipod. the only way i can listen to songs is if i plug in my FM radio receiver. but it plays everything in order and i'm always stuck listening to the same songs. is there any way i can fix it or should i just wait until i can get enough money to buy an ipod with more space? (i have a 2GB nano)

the only way to solve this problem is to let it run out of battery life completley

  • What should i do if my ipod is stuck on hold

My ipod is stuck on hold even when the button isn't on the hold option. So, i basically can't do anything because it doesn't register when i click any buttons. What should i do?

If a reset of restore of the device does not resolve the issue, you'll need to have the iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair center.  It sounds like your hold switch is broken and in need of replacement.

  • Please Please Help: Ipod Nano stuck n hold!!

I dont know what 2 do and i feel like crying becaz i have been searching on here 4 hours an im geting tired. Ok: My ipod iz stuck on hold, ive tried everything from switvhing the button back an forth 2 holdign the center button and menu. and i dont know how 2 do that restore factory setting thing, I read that i can let the battery run out but how can i if it goes 2 sleep? ANY HELP EXTREMLEY APPRECIATED

Plug your ipod into your computer. When it shows in iTunes it should show your ipod in the top. In the Versions section below there should be two things: "Your ipod is up to date" with an update button greyed out after it and "If you are experiencing problems...." right below that. At the end of that statement you should see a "restore" button. Click on that and it will as you if you are sure you want to restore as it will remove everything you put on your ipod from it. Click yes. It will then begin to reset it to factory settings. Finally, you will get a prompt telling you not to unplug your ipod as the process is completing and your ipod will show in itunes again when finished. Click "ok". When it is done it will show up as it did when you first purchased the ipod asking you to name it, etc.

what u mean by hold mode? Have u checked its not on screenlock by psliding the button next to the headphones port?
have u reset it by holding the centre button with the menu button together for 10 seconds?
Try tapping it lightly if no other solution works.

  • Brand New iPod Classic stuck on hold!

So I just took my new ipod out of the box a few hours ago, charged it, ejected and disconnected, put it on hold, and then plugged it back in but forgot to take it off of hold before I did that. Now it's stuck on hold, the screen won't even go dark. I can't press anything and my computer doesn't seem to recognize it when I plugged it back in. I have tried moving the hold switch back and forth - nothing helps. Any suggestions? This is my first time having an ipod ever, and it's kind of frustrating to have it not working!
    Thanks!

Have you tried resetting the iPod?
This is done by moving the hold switch to on, then move it to off and press the menu button and the centre (select) button together for (up to) ten seconds. This should cause the Apple logo to appear on the screen and the iPod to reset. You may need to repeat this step. This has to be done sometimes when the iPod gets confused!
If that does not work, then try the 5Rs, see here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/ . Hopefully you will be able to reset it - try that first before the 5Rs.
It should not be necessary to turn the hold switch off before plugging the iPod into your PC.

  • IPod mini won't hold the full capacity of songs - HELP PLEASE!

In the past few weeks, my library has grown from 500 to maybe 850 songs. Since the ipod mini holds 1000(is that correct?) I should have no problem. Well there is one: it sais "there is not an efficient amount of space" or whatever, meaniing i have too many songs. So i look on my mini and it says that there are only 590 songs on it! There's plenty of room! So, can't it hold 850?
    please help!
    Sincerely,
    Lauren

See your other post. There really is no need to ask the same question twice in the space of a few minutes. : )

  • IPod's stuck on hold...

Please help, my iPod won't work at all, it's stuck on hold, can can I put it back to normal?

problem solved!!!!! I had the Same Problem
I have tried everything but really everything with the same problem. I went to Appel store in Germany and they told me they have to send it to Appel and will charge me about 100 € ( $120): I did the following an d in a second it stat to work.
I can't believe it. The Heather advice, noted by many others worked for me! Felt carefully around the silver back where it joins the white plastic front and realized there was a miniscule shift in the position from one side to the other. Barely noticeable. Pushed hard on the silver back to put it back in position and with a loud click, the hold button moved a fraction of a millimeter and unlocked. Thank you! Problem must have been caused by banging the ipod accidently and displacing the back from the front. Saved me lots of $$. It's really a piece of junk.

  • Ipod mini stuck in disk mode wont reset

    Hey,
My iPod mini is stuck in disk mode, either displaying "ok to disconnect" or "do not disconnect" and won't reset.
When connected to my PC, iTunes does not notice the iPod, although it does show up in "my computer". When I try to run an iPod updater to restore the iPod, it either takes forever and I end up pushing CTRLALTDEL, or it comes up with the error message "cannot mount iPod".
I already know how to reset an iPod mini, having done it many times before. I've removed and reinstalled iTunes and iPod updater many times and it's making no difference.
So what can I do? I've had so many problems with iPod mini since I've had it. Every couple of months I end up stuck in front of my computer trying to fix it. Can anyone help me, or is there a way of contacting apple for a replacement?
    Thanks

    Hi
First of all thanks for your reply, but...
Please try to plug your iPod with the AC charger and press "select"+"menu" keys- to get out from disk mode
OK, did that, now I get the folder icon, or if I then try to reset the mini, it goes back to disk mode.
When I plug it into the PC now, it does kind of a loop. It goes from Mac logo to folder icon to "do not disconnect" to "ok to disconnect", then repeats. The PC is not recognising the ipod at all now.

  • Ipod mini stuck in recovery mode, even after restoring

my ipod mini is stuck in recovery mode. I've tried putting it into disk mode and restoring the ipod but , as soon as it resets after restoring it shows it's still in recovery mode. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

What happens if you try and do a low level reformat of the iPod using the tools provided by windows and the step-by-step guide on this page?
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/
Another good troubleshooting step at this point might be to remove all other USB devices (minus the keyboard and mouse if applicable) and reboot your PC.
Try restoring it on another PC or Mac if necessary.
