Ipod mini/updater

I have just tried to set my ipod to its original factory settings but it is saying cannot mount ipod.
What does this mean? PLEASE HELP!!!
I have gone without my ipod for way too long.
Thanks.

I have a similar problem. I just recently reinstalled the ipod updater 05-11-17, I reinstalled itunes, and reset my ipod a couple of times. When the ipod update software prompts me to plug in my ipod, after plugging it in, and after about a minute, the software hangs up, without the available options of update or restore. Both options are unhighlighted. Also, Itunes does not recognize that the ipod mini is plugged into the computer when I am looking to upload music. please help : [

  • IPOD Mini - Updating Playlists

When I try to update my IPOD Mini, I get the following error message:
"Songs on the IPOD cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist"
    How do I fix this?

Use the instructions in this article to change the iPod's synchronization mode to one of the other two options, or create a new playlist and add that to the list of playlists to sync to the iPod.

  • What? How do I dowload the "latest ipod mini update"?

Hello. I have an Ipod Mini (2nd Generagation 4GB). I had put it away a few years ago when trying to reformat it. It had been on Mac, and I was switching to Wondows. I had trouble downloading itunes for some reason. I dont think i was on dialup, but I had problems and just quit trying in frustration. I plugged it in to charge a few hours ago. The screen was blank. I googled and looked through forums at how to boot it up. I couldnt remember. Well, after just under 2 hours of charging at the wall, I connected via USB to my PC, and it doesn't even get recognized. My PC just says it's searching. I tried to hold the MENU & SELECT buttons for the suggested time until th Apple logo comes up. Nope. Nothing doing. Nothing comes up. I keep trying.
I found the Apple Support info that is dated 2004, where it tells me to go to the Apple Support slash Ipod, to download the latest Ipod Mini software. What is that? There isn't such a thing. I can't even find a mention of it anywhere on the internet. This support manual info on Apple tells me I need to do this to be able to rest my Mini.
I should be able to see the Mini pop in my iTunes, if I open it, if I have it connected via USB. But I don't.
Maybe there is a battery inside the Mini that won't charge? Should I take it apart to look? So far, no Apple logo no matter what I try. Nothing on the screen at all to show a battery charging or anything.
If I take it apart, what should I look for? I'd like to take it apart to see. I couldn't find any YouTube videos on that either.
    What would you try?
    Thanks.

I know, I really REALLY wish that firefox would keep the security and cosmetic updates SEPARATE!

  • Error reading when trying to download ipod mini update

I am trying to download an update for my mini. the following message comes up "error reading setup initialization file" Can anyone help me understand what this means? My ipod mini has been "playing up" the battery doesn't seem to last very long, shuts down etc when it should have enough battery to last.Seems like this is a common issue from others comments posted. any thoughts on the download problem would be very much appreciated!

    hi Juzzie!
there's some specific advice on that one in this document, in the "Make sure your folder names don't contain strange characters" section:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
... but if that doesn't bring you immediate joy, try the other general advice in there too.

  • IPOD MINI&UPDATER PROBLEM!! THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!

    Hello guys
I just downloaded the newest iPod updater 2006-01-10 for my brother's iPod mini. There was an update necessary. So then I install it, plug the iPod into my computer, and it determines that update is necessary. So I then update it. Normal routine. But when it says "please leave the iPod connected while it reboots" or something of that sort, it stays like that. Its not frozen, and Windows still responds. When I try to exit the program, it says "Can't interrupt process." So then I just remove the Mini from with Safely Remove Hardware. Now here's where it gets spookier and weirder. After I disconnect the Mini, I try to play a song. It plays. I try to forward to the next song. It doesn't! I try to rewind to the last song. It doesn't!! I reset the iPod then try it again. It still doesn't! It pauses, plays, and click wheel respongs, but it just doesn't wanna forward/rewind. So then I connect the Mini to my computer, and open the updater, thinking to restore the Mini. Then this dialogue comes up, saying "iPod service error." I can't even restore now. I tried the same thing with the updater 2005-11-17, and does the same thing to me. What is wrong? Has anyone had this similar or same problem? Is this because of the updater? Now I think I have no choice but to bring it to Apple store...if I can't find a solution to this. Please!! Help!! Thank you!!

Oh and by the way when I keep holding the forward/rewind button, it can still search (if thats what its called) meaning that I can still go to a certain point in a song I choose so that I can start listening from there.

  • Changing ipod mini updating option

My ipod mini repeatedly updates the same "selected itunes playlists" that I initially chose as an updating option. I am not able so far to select the "manual update" or update all songs and playlist. Additionally, experiencing the "blue screen, rebooting, re-logging in" process. Any suggestions/recommendations for correcting problems?

Use the instructions in this article to change the iPod's synchronization mode to one of the other two options, or create a new playlist and add that to the list of playlists to sync to the iPod.

  • IPod Mini updating problem

A friend of mine sold me his old iPod mini for a few bucks, giving me only the USB connector. Just earlier, when I downloaded iTunes, and updated the iPod software, it told me to then plug my iPod into a wall plug, and a picture of this on my screen then appeared. The problem is.. I don't have one, I'm using my computer to charge it, and now the icon on the screen will not go away. What can I do to get rid of it?

When updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see that icon displayed. It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.

Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • IPod mini updater problem

I am being driven mad this afternoon....My iPod mini keeps showing a file with a warning sifn. I think I have done everything I should (the 5 R's) but to no avail. Whenever I try and install iPod updater I am only given the option to restore. When I try to do that, I get the message 'Firmware update failure. disk write error'. Can somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong??
    Thanks!

Thanks for this. Changing the port didn't help. When I went into the universal serial bus controllers, there were no items labelled as the instructions said. Mine say:
Standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller; USB composite device; USB mass storage device. I was worried about disabling any of these in case it was the wrong thing to do. As you can tell I am not a computer whizz! If you can help again, it would very much be appreciated!

  • Can't Download iPod Mini Update

I am unable to download the iPod Mini software update. I'm using Win XP Pro Svc PK2 with the latest browser.
When I go through the motions to download it, I click the download button and a yellow bar appears at the top of my browser window. I click the yellow bar then click download then the page say am unable to refresh or something and redirects back to the page where I click the download button. It's an endless loop and the end result is that I never am able to download the upgrade.
Can someone post the download file to a legitimate place where I can download it? Or can someone email it to me?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When I download this is what happens.
    1) I go to the page and type in my apple ID and long in.
    2) It says Welcome [name] and then it says Windows or Mac (there is a bubble) I select windows and then hit download.
    3) The next page comes up and says click here to begin download.
    I don't have a yellow bar.
Try disabling anything like McAfee Privacy Service on your computer.

  • Assistance for Ipod Mini Update

I've read many posts but can't find a solution. I possess a 4GB Ipod mini. Emac/itunes 6.0 stopped recognizing ipod. Ipod still appears on desktop, but not in itunes.
Battery is full. I downloaded Ipod Updater 10/24/05 (most current according to Software Update), but could not update Ipod directly (update screen stated Ipod lacked space) so download was placed on Ard disk (key " " between g and j is not working, so I Ave to type witout it-sorry). Next, Ipod updater was used to RESTORE Ipod mini back to factory settings.
Now I need to update Ipod but cannot do it. In Itunes/preferences/ipod, "no ipod connected" appears, but ipod IS connected and its icon is on desktop.
I'm stuck. I've tried suggestions from apple bulletins. If someone can give concise effective steps to follow now, I'd be appreciative!

May I ask if you've looked here?
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X

  • IPod Mini updater stuck in loop

    Hi,
I get a message to update the mini to 1.4. When I download and run it, reboot and relaunch iTunes, I get the same message again. I get the same message each time. How do I know if the updater has worked? Should I just ignore the message to update?
    Thanks in advance.

    Dylanfan,
You might want to start a new thread about that, but you first might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #300432 shows one How to Use Multiple iPods With One Computer.
Did I solve your orgional problem? Do you mind marking this page as solved if it is? You might want to look atkad: How to Properly Use Apple Discussions

  • IPod mini transferto a newpc

I need to find out how to transfer my iPod mini software to a new computer. I changed my PC, and have been successful in transferring songs from the previous pc on which the software was loaded. Now I can't get the software to "configure" the iPod so it will accept the iPod mini updates and allow me to export songs to my mini. I run WindowsXP, home edition.

Well, you should just be able to download the iPod Updater to format the ipod.

I have never tried doing that without first putting on the CD, but I would think that would do the trick.

  • Unable to update Ipod mini / Computer not responding to Ipod

I recently switched computers and I installed the iPod mini software onto my new computer. This worked at first but when I started moving music from iTunes onto my iPod from my new computer, the downloads would stop even though the music had not been fully downloaded. When I checked my iPod, the new music was not there. I downloaded the new iTunes and the new updater. I then tried to update my iPod software but it said "Firmware failure" and then my iPod mini started showing me the exclamation mark folder every time I turned it on. I tried to restore the iPod using my new computer but everytime I tried to do that, it showed "Firmware failure." Next, I plugged my iPod mini into my old computer and used an old update program to restore the iPod and it worked. When I plugged the iPod back into my new computer, the computer would take a long time to recognize the player but iTunes wouldn'recognize it at all. When I try to update the ipod mini software, it shows initializing for a long time before the program crashes.
What should I do to get this ipod working again?

ok try this ...... this is the totally resetting things to do !!!!! first holthe center and the menu down when the apple comes then hold the center and the play down...... then it should be totally reset.... then install the new ipod updater and itunes 4.9 and then try if it works ...........
