  • How to use iPod mini USB in car - manage playing

I am getting reacqauinted with my iPod mini and see that I can play it in my car using the USB port, but can't seem to access the controls...it just displays do not disconnect. I turned the car off before I disconnected the iPod. Will appreciate any feedback here!

Yes I have the same question too. When I plug my fairly new160 gig ipod classic into the USB port of my new car, all the ipod screen info defaults over to the car's screen and you have to navigate what you want from the touch screen in the car. Fine no problem. But when I try to do the exact same thing using either of my old ipod minis (which otherwise work just fine with headsets) I get an error message which basically says. this is not going to work. WHy is that? ...Anyone?

  • Ipod Mini - USB Port

I am thinking of getting an Ipod Mini but my laptop only has a USB 1 Port and I was wondering if the Ipod Mini will work with a USB 1 port as all of the literature about it only mentions using it with a USB 2.0 port. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

As Jeff said, you will be much better off if you get a good Firewire PCI card such as the Adaptec Fireconnect 4300. Firewire is normally faster and more reliable than USB (1 or 2). Note that a Firewire iPod cable is also needed if you take this route.

Maybe there's something wrong with your USB cable? Have you tried connecting your iPod with a different cable?

  • IPod mini - USB - mac mini

The iPod mini is visible on a
    mac mini, OS X 10.3.9, iTunes 4.7
    but is not on a
    mac mini, OS X 10.4.2, iTunes 4.9
My assumption is that there is a problem with the OS?
Seems similar to 10.3 to 10.3.3 which did not detect iPod
    minis either.
Can anyone confirm this? If so, what can I do but reverting to
    10.3.9 ?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens or doesn't happen.

  • IPod Mini Compatibility with USB 1.1 (Please help!)

Hello. I'm turning 21 in a few days and am away at college... my parents, while divorced, decided to join forces to buy me a really nice gift for my 21st birthday... a brand new iPod Mini. My mom attempted to get me a Nano, she tells me, but they were out and the salesperson said this one actually held more music for about the same price, so she did the right thing in my opinion.
Anyway, I for whatever reason instantly had the worry that this iPod won't work with my computer. I don't have a lot of money so when I was a freshman in college I purchased a Dell for $500 which is still my computer right now. It has a USB 1.1 port. I run iTunes already as my music browser so I'm not worried about the program not working... I am simply concerned that when I receive the gift in the coming days that I won't be able to use it with my computer because of the older USB port. I've read stuff on the net that says that USB 1.1 WILL work, others have said it won't.
So does anyone have a sraight answer? Will my iPod Nano be usable using my circa 2002 Dell Dimension Desktop with USB 1.1? Anything on this would be greatly appreciated. I hope it works... my parents don't exactly have $250 to throw around for something I can't use.
Thank you so much for reading, hope to hear from some of you soon! -Colin Moriarty

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would say USB 1.1 should work, but there is no absolute guarantee it will. The iPod nano should also work with USB 1.1, but again there is no absolute guarantee. If it works, the transfer speed will be slow but I believe you are prepared for this.
Stop worrying, Colin, for the time being. If you have any problems with your new gift, post back and we will try to help.
Meanwhile, I use my 2 iPod minis with Firewire, and both work perfectly. So if you have problems in the future you may consider switching to Firewire (by getting a Firewire PCI card and a Firewire iPod cable).

  • External (USB) Hard drive errors when plugging in Ipod mini

I just got an Ipod mini from a friend.
I installed the newest version of Itunes and also updated the Ipod mini software.
The problem I have had since the beginning is still there. When I plug in the Ipod, it gives me errors on my external hard drive saying "Write delay error", etc. It only happens when I plug in my Ipod. I also can't access the Ext. HD once the ipod is connected. Once I disconnect the Ipod and cycle the ext. HD then the Ext. HD starts working again. Everything is fine until I try to plug the Ipod mini into the USB again.
Also for reference the Ext. HD is on the back USB plugs and the Ipod I have in the front.
Please help!! My music is on my Ext. Hard drive and so I need it in order to transfer the music to my Ipod

    hiya!
sometimes power drain through one USB 2.0 port can affect ipod connections on a different port.
do you have an electronics retailer with a good money-back guarantee nearby? if so, it might be worth experimenting with seeing if you get better recognition (while both are plugged in) by using a good quality powered USB hub.

  • Apple store says ipod mini not working b/c not using usb port 2.0 - true?

My ipod mini (a year old) is frozen/can't be charged. Apple store guy said because I've been using usb port 1.1 and that it is supposed to be used with usb port 2.0. Tells me won't send in for replacement (out of warranty anyway) unless I first update my computer with USB 2.0 card. Is this true?

It's better to use 2.0 because it's faster.
Try resetting it, hold the center [select] button and the menu button until the Apple logo appears. or let the battery die, and then plug it in.

  • Ipod mini from ebay. not showing up on usb, no default disc plz help!

    hi there,
i recently bought an ipod mini from ebay.com. The ipod is in good running condition and works great with the songs i have on it that i got from my friends computer. The only problem is that i cannot get songs from my computer to my ipod mini because it doesnt show up when i connect it to my usb port. I never installed the disc that comes with original ipod's because mine did not come with one since i got it off ebay. Do i have to have the installation disc that comes with ipod's that you buy from the store installed on my computer to be able to use my ipod mini?? Or is there something i can download from the net for windows that would solve my problem? Pleas help!
    -Thanks,
    Jimmy

I am amazed, that after reinstalling iTunes 9.2.1 on MacOS 10.4 after removing the kernel extension and the package receipt everything works as expected.
before reinstalling, the iPod touch neither did load, nor showed up in System Profiler.
So – problem solved, back to normal …
    many thanks

  • Can a firewire iPod Mini be changed to USB?

I've just bought a new MacBook. My older Mac is a Mac Mini and my iPod Mini connects to it via Firewire. Can I simply get a USB iPod cable to connect the iPod to the MacBook? Or is there anything else I can do to use the iPod with the MacBook?

Sorry been away for a while. What I originally meant was I could not use my G3 ipod as an external drive on my new Macbook pro on account the laptop has no Firewire 400 ports. I read some replies on other similar threads that this ipod will work on the USB ports but mine will not and wondered why.
I have since bought a "Neet" adapter with a male 800 to a female 400 firewire and now everything work fine, thanks for your interest

  • Compatible USB cord with iPod mini 1st Generation model number A1051

    Hi,
I've looked everywhere for a place that sells compatible USB cords with the 1st generation mini circa 2005 and can't find one including the Apple store---in the store some seem to say a particular one works and some doesn't, there is conflicting information. Can you help?
    Brandon

    Hello BMSprint,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
A cable such as this one will work. There are several more options available on Amazon. If it's says its compatible specifically with the iPod Mini, then it more than likely is. It might not hurt to read the comments and reviews though to make sure you are choosing a quality product.

  • 6 GB iPod Mini discharges when plugged into Mac Mini via USB 2.0 hub

I have a 6 GB iPod Mini and when i connect it to my computer, instead of charging, it discharges. The iPod is connected to a self powered USB 2.0 hub. Does anybody have any ideas of what to do. I need a hub because the Mac Mini only has 2 USB ports and the keyboard and mouse don't work through the hub (well the keyboard it self does but the hub doesn't which the Mighty Mouse is plugged into)
    Thanks

When i say self powered i mean that it has an external power supply (my hub it has two lights, when it is connected to USB and has p\s connected and plugged in a light lights up that has the word "Self" next to it, when it is connected just to USB it has a light that lights up with the word "Bus" next to it.) I am sorry if i confused you (or if i confused myself). About the firewire thing, i am planning to get the next normal iPod Apple releases but the current ones dont support firewire so the new one probably wont either, so i will be in the same boat as i am now when i get a new one.

  • IPod Mini works with FireWire, won't work with USB

    This one's frustrating.
I have a generic P4 3.2Ghz PC running XP Pro SP2. It used to work fine with my iPod Mini. I then had some problems with usb drives, including its internal drives and the iPod. Eventually I bought the USB/Firewire cable, and all has been fine synching over Firewire since then.
I've now bought my wife a Nano, and I wanted to check (before she opens it) whether the USB connection to my mini would work (nanos not working with Firewire). Nope. If I connect with Firewire, it shows up as a disk in Windows, and in iTunes. If I connect with USB, it shows up as a disk in Windows, but iTunes can't see it.
I've Reset the iPod, Rebooted the PC (many times throughout the process), uninstalled and Reinstalled iTunes and the iPod software (freshly downloaded from Apple). Tried all the USB connections on the box, and another cable.
Any practical suggestions? If her birthday present doesn't work, there will be sarcasm
    PC Windows XP Pro

    I HATE WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So it now works. I "just" had to uninstall the "PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" in Device Manager. Plugged the iPod straight back in, and it appeared in iTunes.
Now to see if I have to do this every time I synch over USB - annoying as I'm saving up for a 6G (whatever and whenever it turns out to be).
Thanks for your time anyone who's read this.

  • USB or Firewire for ipod mini

    Hi all!
I'm anxiously awaiting my new iBook, but am sweating the fact that i didn't get a Firewire cable for my ipod mini dock. My iBook has version OSX 10.4, and didn't realize the dock came with nil connector cables. My Ipod was formatted on a friend's PC (couldn't wait to try it out, and my laptop wouldn't support it!), and was purchased with a USB connector. Does anyone know of a work around (should i need one) so that i'll be able to sync/reformat my ipod when the ibook gets here (hopefully tomorrow...can't stand it anymore!!), since we'll be leaving for vacation shortly after. No Apple stores in my area, so it would have to be a mail order!....any ideas?
p.s. any mac users in the Montreal Canada area? where do you get accessories?

There's mini USB port on the MBP?
The advantages of the USB is the flexibility, but FireWire is less resource heavy for backups. There HDD enclosures that incorporate both USB and FW.

  • DC or mini-USB to iPod Mini cable: do they exist?

Hi. I've recently bought a solar charger, which comes with an adaptor for Ipods and Ipod Nanos, but not one for Ipod Minis. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? The charger has a DC-out port and a mini-USB port, so I need a cable with one of these on one end and an Ipod Mini Dock connector on the other.
    Thanks,
    Aidan

Aidan (my son's name by the way),
I am fairly sure you are mistaken or we are talking about two different things. All Minis use the Dock connector. If you look a the Apple specs on the web site, the Dock connector to USB2 cable for the Mini is part number M9569G/A which is exactly the same one used for the iPod Videos. I.e. they all use the same dock connector so the connector with your charger, IF it is the right one to plug into an iPod video or iPod Nano is also the right one for a mini.
So either you are not using the correct connector in the kit of connectors that came with the charger or you are using a much older iPod pre-Dock connector (which would only charge via a Firewire port) or one or both of us are very confused. Or perhaps the connector that comes with that charger has the plastic molding such that it won't insert into the Mini do to interference? Maybe the Mini's dock connector is more recessed than the others?
Did you have a standard USB cable to charge your Mini on your computer?
