IPod mini w/ Nike+iPod

The nike+ system looks like a wonderful idea and I would love to use it but I can't justify the cost of a new nano when my mini is a workhorse. I spent a chunk of my morning trying to get an answer out of Apple and there seems to be no answer to be had. For a company that thrives on brand loyalty, they sure seem to show little loyalty to their customers.
Is there a reason Apple won't support this device on any iPod except the nano? I think it must be simply a matter of greed, since it would only take a new firmware release for the mini. I know that hard drives may be sensitive to shock, but I have been running, skiing, and snowboarding with this mini since I got it a few years ago and it is no worse for the wear.

The decision to support only the Nano has very little to do with shock, or vibration.
The Nano is supported because it's a flash-based storage device. The mini, and other iPods use a hard drive.
Since the Nike+ sensor in the show needs to constantly stream an uninterrupted flow of data to the iPod, the Nano is the only logical choice since because it uses Flash storgae and it has no moving parts. (The shuffle is also flash-based, but since it has no display and dock connector, the Nike+ product would be rather useless on it.)
The Nano can accept streamed data with limited impact on the iPod's battery. If you needed to stream data to a hard-drived based storage device, then you would be required to have the hard drive constantly spinning... which would completely destroy your battery life.
Apple is not being greedy, or playing marketing games.

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. One way is is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. You could create one playlist for the Mini and one for the Nano. Each playlist can have whatever songs you like in it drawn from the single library. Funky changes in itunes when I went from ipod mini to video ipod

I had an ipod mini. Just got a video ipod. Ever since I got the video ipod and hooked it up to my computer for the first time, when I play music in itunes, it will only play the song that I click on, it won't play subsequent songs and if I click on the >> button, it won't go to the next song. I have to physically click on the next song. Yes, I made sure that repeat all was selected in controls. Does anyone know what is up?

IPod mini displays sad ipod on screen

Well I've had my iPod mini for about 6 months now and up until a month ago it has been working great..but it has started showing me the folder with the explanation point and the sad ipod. I have already restored my iPod once, but now I think I need to do it again, but the thing is whenever I try to connect my iPod to my computer my computer won't recognize it. I've tried everything but still nothing works. And the only way to restore it is if my iPod can be recognized. I think it might be because my iPod is not charged, but how can I tell if it is charging or not if it only shows the apple logo or the sad ipod screen? Help needed Please!!! I have a windows computer too.

The first diagnosis is correct - the Hard Drive has died. This is common on iPod's of this age. You have two options. Firstly, you can try the repair yourself. This would involve taking the iPod apart and replacing the hard drive inside. This can be quite tricky. Your second choice is to send it to a repair company, such as mine (www.dr-pod.com). However, we are in the UK, but there are lots in the US too.

Has anyone experienced iPod mini first generation failing completely (running low on batteries) after installing the iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9?
My iPod mini showed "Low battery sign please recharge" after being fully charged shortly after I installed the latest updater and iTunes 4.9. My iPod mini would show low battery status after playing 5 minutes or less. After several attempts to reinstall the latest update and iTunes software, I resolved the issue by reverting back to the original iPod Updater 2004-04-28 and iTunes 4.5. Now my iPod functions as before with the expected battery life.

Yeah, I didn't download it for that reason. I like my itunes the way they are. My iPod didn't work with the other one. So, I restored it. I don't plan to change my iTunes until i know for sure the new one is fool proof.

Only those iPods contain the firmware needed to use it, likely because iPods with a hard drive such as the iPod classic are much more vulnerable to drops and other hard impacts than iPods which use flash media.

Transfer iPod Mini music to iPod

I was wondering if I could transfer my music from my iPod Mini to a brand new iPod instead of dragging music from the iTunes Library to the new iPod?
I have some music that are not in the library, but are on the Mini.
Do I need a special cable, software, or something???

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another, you need to get the content of your Mini back into iTunes so you can update the new iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7 A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. IPod Video and Nike + iPod Sport Kit

Does the sport kit work with the video ipod? If not, id there going to be a new version to use with it?

The fifth generation's iPod firmware does not work with the iPod sport kit, possibly because the hard disk on that model of iPod is much more vulnerable to the iPod being dropped than the iPod nano's flash media is.

The iPod is in Diagnostic Mode. It is not a really a problem. This can be caused by resetting your iPod and then holding down select and rewind. Sometimes you accidentally do this if your iPod is in your pocket and not on hold.
To get it out of Diagnostic Mode, you need to reset your iPod by holding down Menu+Select for 6-10 seconds. See this for more information...

Ipod Mini --Songs Won't Sync To Ipod, But They Show Up In My Library..Help!

OK, all my songs went missing off of my mini and I can't get them to sync back on but they are still in my library... and now when I try to connect the ipod into itunes and connect my ipod, an error messege comes up, something about playlists.. but im mainly just concerned on trying to get my library back!
"Songs on the ipod "Name Of Ipod" cannot be updated because the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist."
I have done the 5 R's but nothing worked, I also tried restoring my ipod but it gets stuck in the middle and i get an error message for that too.

and i cannot call apple to help b/c my ipod is over a year old and they will charge a fee for a service call....
I also recently updated to the newest version of Itunes.

Just so you know...if you do indeed have a mini (and are not confusing it with a Nano) then you have post in the wrong forum. This is the 2nd gen nano forum and if you do have a Nano you're still in the wrong forum since you stated that yours is over a year old and the 2nd gen is not a year old yet.
