IPod Mini weak battery & warranty

My iPod mini has a very weak battery and will hold for about an hour. The question is, if i turn it in for support, will they replace the battery or send a new iPod? And they discontinued the mini, will i get another mini?
  Windows XP

If you send it in and they determing the battery to be defective, they will replace your mini with another mini (most likely a refurbished one).

  • HT1435 My iPod mini's battery dies within about 30 seconds. What's up with that?

    What it says up there.

That's a pretty good sign that the battery is completely shot and in need of replacing.  Not suprising since it's an iPod Mini and those have been out for a number of years now.
You can choose to have Apple replace the battery for a flat fee, send it to a third party service to have them do the job for a little less, or for even less you can buy a new battery for it and swap it out yourself.

  • I think my iPod Mini has battery memory. I need help.

I searched all over this site before I bought my Mini and this site said that you can't get battery memory on iPods. Well, everything that's happening to my Mini now, suggests to me that I have battery memory.
After charging it it displays the "no battery power remaining" symbol.
After charging it again for about 4 hours, it plays for about 2 and then that symbol appears again.
Sometimes I can then switch it on again right after and play it for about another 4 before it displays it again.
So please help if you can. Is this battery memory? And if there anyway to replace the battery if it is? Or fix it if it isn't?
I'd really appreciate iit if you could help me

Sounds to me like it's time for a new battery. Lithium-ion batteries of the type used in the iPod do not suffer from the memory effect.

  • Ipod mini battery issue

My ipod mini's battery life is over and I was looking into the apple support options and battery replacement. However, I was wondering if you get a battery replacement if all data on the ipod will be deleted or if apple will just give me a new ipod mini. Thanks.

Usually Apple doesn't actually replace the battery, but instead places it with an exact model.  So yes, your data will be lost, so be sure to back it up to your computer if at all possible before sending it in for repairs/replacement.

  • Ipod mini battery dies

my iPod mini's battery dies within 10 minutes. I'll charge it overnight and still only around ten minutes. I got the speakers but that charger doesnt work either. I don't know what to do.

    hey,
i just changed my ipod mini's battery because of the same problem (10 hour charge to a 5 minute life span) . it appears to me that the new battery (more ampage than the original) provides no improvement whatsoever, in fact, worsened the lifespan!
If I leave my ipod switched off with the hold on, it will reset it self and then half of the battery will go away..
    any reasons /???

  • IPod passes Apple battery test but only lasts 2hrs during normal use

I have a 1st generation iPod mini; the battery has been acting up lately. I have done Apple's battery test a few times; each time the battery lasts for 6-8 hrs. However, during normal use, it lasts only 1.5-2hrs, even after a full charge.
I have this problem even when the backlight and the EQ is off. Also, the battery dies, even though the battery meter is half full. If I immediatly turn on the iPod, the meter is empty, but after 20 min, it's half full again. When I try to play music, it turns off.
On top of this, the battery takes a minmum of 8hrs to fully charge!
    Please help...!

My ipod mini 2nd generation was like this too.. it would reset itself resetting the time also for no reason every 20mins.. and it wouldnt hold a charge.. i sent it in thursday and i should get it back this week.. if your ipod is in warranty.. send it back asap!

  • IPod mini only plays background music! Can't hear the lyrics!?!

I don't even know how this happens... but my ancient iPod mini, the battery of which i had replaced a few years ago, has never failed me until now.
Every time I play a song, the lyrics are inaudible and all I hear is the background music, backup vocals, etc. This would be great if I were playing karaoke. But I want to hear the full song! Does anyone know how I can fix this? I thought maybe the EQ or soundcheck was messing with the mp3 so I turned both off but the problem persists.
    Any ideas?

First of all, me being a instrumentalist would say: Who cares? Vocals suck! All they do is add meaning to a song that the instruments can't portray by themselves.
Anyways, it's a probaly with the headphone jack of your iPod. I bought a dock once and the headphone jack in the back got unsaugheted a bit and it started doing it. I suggest taking it to the store and asking them to saughter the headphone jack on properly or taking your ipod apart (I assume you have before since you replaced the battery) and giving it a good look, push it down a little bit and see if that helps.

  • IPod mini battery lasts only 1h

I own an iPod mini 4gb which I bought 3 months ago.. From the time i started using it I noticed that its battery life was low compared to the one written on its features (about 6hours).. Now after a full charge if i dont use my ipod for about a day then it wont turn on and if i turn it on right after it is charged then the battery indicator raches its lowest point within 2 mins and it remains there for about an hour and then my iPod runs out of battery.. Dows my iPod has a defective battery? If it does will I get a free repair(incuding shipping costs since i live in cyprus)? Is it a software problem?

If your battery dies or cannot maintain a charge, Apple’s Service Request process will:
    - Replace it for free during the first 6 months of the warranty**
    - Replace it for a shipping charge (~$35) after 6 months and prior to the 1-year period **
    - Replace it for free if you have the additional AppleCare policy (this extends the warranty to 2 years)**
    - Replace it 'anytime' for a $59 charge (was $99 until 7-8-2005)
b This is regardless of where it was legitimately purchased.
i ** See the ‘Battery Test’ link below. This is how Apple determines if the battery is not performing. If the iPod’s battery lasts less than 50% of the ‘up to’ metric, then Apple considers it a problem. For example: This means less than 4 hours for a 1st Gen Mini and less than 9 hours for a 2nd Gen Mini. -- Best to perform this

    My iPod is sad.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
Also, there is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • IPod mini serial number and battery charging

This is a weird question that I hope someone can help me with. I purchased a refurbished mini (silver) on eBay for my daughter, because I love my mini, but I couldn't by a new one. I'm having battery charging issues (it won't hold a charge even after being on the charger (USB to Mac iBook) overnight. I wanted to see if there was still warranty available on it, but when I typed the serial number on the back of the iPod into the "check warranty" box on the Apple support home page it said it wasn't a correct serial number.
The back of the iPod (from top to bottom) has the apple logo, an HP logo (I wonder if it was originally packaged with an HP computer?), a weird holographic sticker of some kind, the size (4 MB), then the serial number. The serial number does look significantly different than the one on my blue mini.
Could it be that apple handed the warranty support on this iPod to HP?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPod mini (blue)

    Kyle,
Thanks for your help. I will check the Hp website for warranty information for her iPod.
I keep my iBook set to never go to sleep when it's on the power adapter (I regularly charge my iPod overnight on it, and always use the power adapter when charging).
I reset her iPod and it seems to have solved the charging problem. It may have been an indicator problem — I saw some posts about that. I am having my daughter listen to her iPod all day today and see how long the battery lasts.
    Your post was very helpful!

  • Ipod Mini battery (1st generation)

I bought my Ipod mini in february 2005 and since 4 months the battery no longer works. It has started to turning itself off 1 or 2 minutes after i opened it even when fully charged. I tried to reset it but it would work for a few minutes more. I downloaded the latest software & restored the ipod. But nothing works. What can I do?

Thanks for your answer, but i knew it was a battery problem. How come after a year and a few months, the battery is broken? I heard there might be some probs with the 1 st generation Ipod mini battery. Is that true and will Apple replace it free? even if i'm not on the waranty anymore?

  • I have an ipod mini. and when it comes on it shows the battery with a ! mark. What does this mean?

I have an ipod mini. When it comes on it shows the battery with  a !   What does that mean?

That just usually means the battery needs to be recharged.  If you have already tried recharging it, see some of the troubleshooting steps in this Apple support document.

  • IPod Mini battery dying too quickly

I got an iPod Mini very recently, on September 14, 2005. I read in the User's Manual that it would take about a month for the battery to go from completely charged to completely drained if I didn't use it at all. Well, I charged my iPod fully on Tuesday or so, and by this morning it was 3/4 drained - after no more than 6 days of not being used!
Also, the battery seems to die very quickly when I'm playing music on my iPod. It's supposed to have 18 hours of playback, but after about four hours total, it was very close to being drained. I know the battery metre is approximate, but I doubt it's 14 hours off.
I'm really hoping this isn't normal, because I don't use my iPod that much and I don't want to have to recharge it every week even when it's not being used, or every day when it IS being used.
So my question is...is this normal? Or should I take the iPod back to where I bought it and get it exchanged? Any other advice?

This is ridiclous. A lot of people seem to be having the same problems. I mean as it states 18hrs of playback it should be. I have the same problem and dont even use it much. When fully charged I only get about 4-5 hrs playback. I went back to where I got it and they told me to contact Apple as they dont have any more dealings with you as its between aple and the consumer. I have contacted them now. It also has stopped working for me since yesterday. I knew there was half of the battery left so when I went to turn it on, theres no response from it. The screen stays blank. I also plugged it into PC and its not being recognised on my iTunes. Its powerless and Ive tried all their recommendations but to no avail.
