Ipod mini won't connect to my computer

I've tried plugging my mini into my computer, and when I do nothing happens. The computer doesn't even respond to it being there. If i restart the iPod while it is plugged in, it will start to charge, but will not communicate with the computer, (sync itself, be found under itunes, etc.) I can't restore it, because it won't connect to itunes. Every once in a while it will work properly, but those times are random. Please help!

  • My iPod nano won't connect to any computer!!

It worked for a while on my computer, got my bunch of songs on it. Then it stopped connecting into iTunes and then stopped connecting into the computer all together. It won't even light up when I plug it in. I can still listen to my songs on it, I just can't charge the battery or get new songs. I tried using all the different USB ports, and restarted my computer about 50 times. (I'm using windows) I also reinstalled iTunes and the iPod but it's still not working! I also took it to a friend's and tried plugging it into their computer with my iPod cord and their iPod cord and it still wasn't connecting!
    I desperately need help please!

I am having a similar problem. I am actuall on my third 2nd generation nano. One I had to return do to that issue. I recieved the second one (product red) and I was able to get 600 songs on it froma friends computer. It connected to mine once but won't anylonger. The third one I was having the same issue with it but somehow got it to work. I updated itunes and ran a virus scan. I wish I could help but I'm starting to think about stomping on them. I have 4, three work and one dosen't.

  • Ipod mini won't connect after software update

I was using my ipod mini without problems on my mac powerboook until I downloaded and installed the latest ipod software updater yesterday. Since installing the application and clicking update in the software I can't get my computer to recognise the mini at all no matter what I do. Neither Itunes or the software updater sees my ipod and the ipod itself either says do not disconnect or shows a folder icon with an exclamation mark. Anybody know how to get out of this limbo state it seems to be in?

One thing you can try (AT YOUR OWN RISK - though I have done this on my own iPod mini using my PB and it has fixed issues similar to those that you are reporting), connect the iPod to your mac and then launch the disk utility app. If you're on a windows machine, this obviously won't help you although there may be a similar procedure. When the disk utility app comes up, if your iPod shows up in the left panel after a moment, highlight it by clicking on the name. If you try to verify it, you'll probably get a report of errors - don't panic - go to the erase pane and erase the drive (I think you can select either format with journaled or unjournaled - they both seem to work for me). MAKE SURE YOU"VE SELECTED THE iPOD DISK BEFORE YOU ERASE THE DRIVE!!!
After you erase the drive, you'll need to reapply the latest iPod update to restore the iPod OS (if you don't do this you may still be able to load music but it won't play and you'll still see the exclamation point display). After you reapply the update, you will hopefully back to normal. Re load your tunes and enjoy your iPod again!
    Hope this helps.

  • My iPod 5G won't connect to my computer after iOS 7

After I upgraded to iOS 7, my iPod was fine, but after a while it stopped connecting to my computer. Occasionally it'll connect and very occasionally it'll come up with a 0xE8000084 error message, but it hasn't been doing that lately either, and now it won't even tell me if it's charging or not. (It IS charging because the charge level goes up when I plug it in to the computer.) The cord I use is the one that came with my iPod 5G.
    Things I have tried:
    Restoring and Updating iPod
Restoring to iOS 6 (I was desperate)
    Doing a Hard Reset
    Reseting all settings
    Restarting my PC
    Updating iTunes
    Trying another computer
Everything in the 0xE error article
I have a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. Please help.

  • IPod Classic won't connect to my computer

When i connect my ipod classic 80gb to any windows computer(i havent tried any mac) it won't even show up
Thje ipod doesn't even indicate that it's connected
I tried resetting with menu+middle button but still didnt work
These are the information i have except the serial number
    Model: MB147LL
    Version: 1.1.2 PC
    Can anybody help me?

dont trust those dummies from genius bar there very incompetent and there techs terrible at problem solving I've figured out several problems with my ipod 30gb i used it in my car forever and never left my glove box i lost my usb cable and that's when i went to them for answers there was 2 problems 1. was my center click stopped working i fixed that by taking it apart scratching it but i fixed it what happens in the got these rubber boots glued (not very smart)under the wheel there total of 5 of them over time if you leave your ipod in hot place the glue starts melting and rubber boot start to move. 2.is try and go to local store that sells car stereos that have the ipod plug built in will let you use the ipod from the cable charge it. if your ipod works then you know it not bad
cause it should charge and play the music.anyway i think it cable problem with new USB cable they sell at the stores and don't work with 5th gen ipods. best thing is to look online for new cable that says 4th gen and up try this one
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Griffin-USB-to-Dock-Connector-Cable-for-iPod-Coiled/13 995979
don't lisen to them there trained to fix problem fast if the cant fix it they recommend you to pay upgrade price $125.00 and they send your old ipod to 3 party refurbishment center and they pay apple for the old ipods $25-$50
apple there to make money not care about you just your wallet
id say about 90% of ipods ive seen can be repairable or nothing wrong with them
long story short iam sure just your cable that bad and need to be replaced
if not walmart refund you your money and you havent lost penny
so if you like to go to local car steroe shop and tell them your looking buy radio that will play and control your ipod and you're there see if it works for your ipod there plug it in and test it for you and it free most car steroes will work with older ipods
if you ipod works then run wal-mart and buy your self new cable
    hope this helps

  • My Ipod touch won't connect to iTunes/Computer!

This problem has being going on for a month or so now! Firstly, iTunes kept freezing whenever I connected my iPod to my computer which became quite annoying. And recently it's just stopped connecting altogether, no beeping noise, no charging, no usb driver listed, no freezing- nothing. However, whenever I turn my iPod off and connect it, my iPod turns on? I've tried reinstalling iTunes many times, as well as all the other software but nothing seems to work. I've also tried reinstalling the usb driver, which did eventually work but then caused my iTunes to freeze. I then disconnected my iPod to find that it wouldn't connect again, and the usb doesn't show up still. My computer is running on Windows Vista, and my iPod is an iPod touch 4th gen. Can anyone help me!? I really don't want to reset my iPod as I'd loose everything on it and I've owned it for quite a few years

  • IPod Touch won't connect to my Computer

Hey all, Im having some issues connecting my Ipod to my PC,
My iPod touch is a 2G 8GB with software 3.1.3
It was 3 days ago when I try to connect it just wont do anything, it was just fine until then, appearently the PC and iTunes dont realize an Ipod is connected to it.  Ive tried restart/restore my Ipod but it wont help. Ive also reinstalled iTunes, still no change.  The one thing ive noticed is, that when I shut my iPod down and connect it, it will turn on by itself, like its supposed to do, but when it turned on it doesnt charge and iTunes shows nothing, hardware manager neither.
I have tried it with different cables and computers, but it gives me the same result.
The only way I can charge it is with an adapter, which surprisely works fine.
I appreciate that if somebody could help me out.

  • My ipad mini won't connect to my computer anymore.

my ipad mini wont connet to my computer anymore, i plug it in i see the battery for a second then it says not charging and it will not connect with itunes. it has worked fine up until now.

If you are running a Mac, the repair for your iOS device not being seen by iTunes could be very simple : repair your permissions. Create a bootable USB keychain drive with the latest version of OSX on it. Boot from it. Use Disk Utility to repair the permissions.
NOTE : Please remember to continue running permissions repair until it returns zero fixes. This fix also assumes you have diligently updated your Mac to the very latest OS and other software available from Apple.
Then just boot from your internal drive as normal, and see if it works. I don't know if this will work for you, but it is another possibility to try, and worked for a Mac Pro tower (running 10.8.5 and the latest version of iTunes 11.1.x).

  • IPod Touch won't connect to laptop/computer or iTunes

Before anyone says it, yes I have done everything listed on the site for this problem and nothing works.
I have what I believe is a 2nd Gen 16gb iPod Touch and am running Windows Vista. My laptop has 3 separate USB plugs and yet when I plug the iPod USB cable (with iPod attached) into any of the USB plugs nothing happens. It doesn't charge, it doesn't show in iTunes and it doesn't show up at all on my computer. It's not the USB plugs as other USB devices work and its not the USB cable as I used it the night before this problem first occurred (which was yesterday).
I don't know what to do at this point.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen won't connect to my computer, charge or connect to iTunes.

Okay, here is the issue. My computer runs Windows Vista. Ever since I have updated iTunes to 11.0.2, my iPod touch hasn't been able to connect to the computer at all. I don't know if there is any correlation between the update and my issue, but I need someone to be the judge of that. Apple has suggested that you uninstall iTunes, QuickTime, etc. restart the computer and then reinstall them. So I have done that multiple times, and my iPod still won't connect to the computer. My sister's iPod touch, 4th gen just like mine won't connect to iTunes or the computer either. I have spent a lot of time looking up possible solutions, but none of them work at all. I've done everything Apple suggests in troubleshooting and such, but nothing works. I was hoping someone else might be able to give me a solution. One that hopefully does not involve uninstalling and reinstalling Apples programs, which I have done several times.
I have tried all accessable USB ports on my computer, and I have switched between the four different USB cords that we have, so this isn't the issue. My PS Vita will connect to the computer with no issue at all, so it isn't the USB ports either. I can plug my iPod Touch into my PS3 and it will charge the instant I plug either end of the cable in, the same for my sister's. I can plug it into the dock on my mother's alarm clock and it will charge just fine. I'm open to any suggestion, so please help me out here.
    -Jay

    So you tried everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
Try connecting to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.

  • Ipod won't connect to the computer at all.

My 3rd Generation iPod nano won't connect to the computer at all. Therefore it has no battery for me too be able to reset or try to do anything with it.
I've only been advised to make sure that i have the most recent version of iTunes?
    Could anyone help please?
    Thanks, Hollie.

    Try uninstalling the drivers,
    Plug in your iPod
Right click on My Computer and click on Manage
that will bring you to the Computer Management
On the left hand side click on device manager
on the right side click on the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
it will show a list, in that list locate iPod or USB mass storage device
    right click and select uninstall
Unplug your iPod and plug it back in
Windows should automatically start installing them again
if nothing pops up then right click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers
and choose scan for hardware changes
    If that doesn't work
    Go back into Computer Management
Click on Disk Management on the right
and on the left it should say your iPod
Right click and go into change drive letter and paths
    click on the change button
Change it to something like N or M
Click ok, you will get a message saying "changing the drive letter may cause the program to no longer run are you sure you want to change this drive letter"
    click ok
    then restart your computer

  • New iPod won't connect to a computer installed w/ old iPod

I just purchased a new 2nd gen. iPod nano to replace my 2 year old iPod mini. My laptop recognizes my mini fine, but won't even detect my new nano. Why is this? I saw in the other topic that a BIOS update would do the trick, but I updated and the computer still won't recognize. What can I do?
    Thanks for your help
    Dani

This could be caused by Windows drive letter confusion on your computer. Have you tried assigning your Mini a different drive letter?
Log off of any other users on your computer (and disconnect any iPods that are currently connected to your computer, as well)
Then, put your iPod into Disk Mode, and follow these steps:
1 - Don't plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, connect your iPod to the computer.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If that fails to get your new nano recognized by your computer, try the steps and suggestions in these links below:

  • Ipod stuck in lock mode and won't connect to Windows computer

My Ipod is stuck on the lock position and won't connect to my computer when I plug it in. The hold switch moves back and forth just fine and it was working perfectly yesterday. It's the classic nano that's square. It's stuck on a song that I used as my alarm yesterday morning. I haven't turned it on since then and when I pushed the on switch, it went to the screen but then wouldn't do anything else. I've tried to hold down the menu and middle button while moving the hold switch, but it didn't work. Please help!

I fixed it! I had to switch the hold button from on to off to on again and then held the menu and middle button down at the same time. It works just fine now!

  • Ipod touch won't connect to computer at all.

I got a new generation iPod touch for christmas. Updated the iTunes and all that jazz and it worked fine. I probably only plugged it in about 3 times or so because I have a dock that can charge it. (I haven't plugged it into the computer since I put it on the dock so maybe that has something to do with it?)But today I plugged it in and it won't connect to the computer at all. The computer recognizes it because when I plug it in that pop up comes up that says "this device can perform faster if you connect to it a Hi-Speed USB port" but it won't charge or connect to iTunes. But, my other ipod will connect and open iTunes with no problem.
Any ideas? I don't know what else to do and nothing on the support pages fixes my problems so I really need you guys.

nope. i thought about trying to restore it but i'm afraid i'm going to be stuck with a 300 dollar ipod with nothing on it. and i think it's completely stupid that you have to pay for support because i was looking for a number to call but my parents didn't get any coverage when they bought it for me. i don't know if you have it but if you do, try calling and please please pleaseeee let me know. you'd be my savior. haha.

  • IPod Won't Connect to PC Computer

I have had some issues I wasn't able to fix concerning my iPod Classic and my PC computer. Until recently, my iPod 120G Classic would not connect to my computer. I have downloaded the most recent version of iTunes, I've tried resetting it, and I've restarted my computer a couple times. I cannot restore it cause it won't connect to my computer. I've tried Disk Mode as well as changing USB ports. This didn't work. What happens is that it says USB not readable or something similar to that on the connection for half a second than disappears. This has been occuring ever since I synced a movie to my Classic. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
