IPod mounts, then VANISHES

Since the recent upgrade of iTunes, my iPod's been having various strange issues. (iTunes 7.0.7 and most recent iPod software upgrade- iPod w/ dock connection- Mac OS 10.4.7)
First, it wouldn't appear on the desktop, but the do not disconnect icon flashes on the iPodscreen - so I have to do a reset in order to disconnect.
Sometimes it would then appear, but would have all sorts of lags, spinning wheels if I tried to open the ipod on the desktop or any of the data files inside.
Now it's just plain not showing up at all and if I connect w/ the firewire cable, it acctualy crashes my MAC and the screen dims and the "You need to restart your Macintosh" message comes up. After this, the iPod still doesn't show.
I performed a restore after backing up everything and that still didn't do the trick. The iPod will mount, then vanish from the desktop after a few seconds. It will show sometimes in iTunes, but every song in the play lists will be grayed out.
I use this iPod with 3 computers- one at work, my laptop G4, and my home computer (all with identical OS and iTunes) and encounter similar f' ups on all 3, although I didn't have any trouble w/ my home computer until I upgraded my iTunes to 7.0.1 . Maybe not a great idea in retrospect eh?

So i just bought a few games from the Humble Bundle online, and one of the games that was in it was "Mark of the Ninja" and I believbe that this is it's mac debut. Anyway, after succesfully downloading the file, (direct download, therefore no torrents, it just opened directly form safari when it was finished.) and the file jumps up in the dock once as if starting and then vanishes. Nothing happens. I am very dissapointed. I have been looking it up. Some people say that it has to do with the permissions of the file. But that got me nowhere. Some peopl said to check out its status in the utilities console. So i did, and this showed up:

So this is a step by step of what you will have to do.
Right Click on ninja
select "show package contents"
open the contents folder
open the "MacOS" folder
you should see two items in the folder
open the one on the far left.
This didnt always open up a terminal window for me, but after double clikcing it, open a terminal window yourself if you have too.
replace the code with:
chmod +x /Applications/ninja.app/Contents/MacOS/ninja

If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.

I would say that you are not connected to the iTunes library you last synced with. You can only sync with one iTunes library. If you connect the iPod to another computer/another iTunes library then you get what you see.
You can only manually manage music and videos among different libraries, not apps.

. You do not need a seperate Apple ID. One one device you just need to go to Settings>Messages and add another/different Messaging email address and delete the common Apple ID address. Also see:

What calendar were you syning to? Outlook? Google? Something else? The directions on how to resync vary a bit.

The Apple techs are looking. But they can't find it. Nor can they find a back up on my laptop, Evidently when I backed up my Iphone to computer the calendar wasn't syncing. Since I only use the calander on my phone - I never noticed.
The Apple store rep that sold me the I-Phone 5 on Monday, was transferring my contacts and calendar thru I-Cloud (I never used I-Cloud before that moment - and always had it turned off). He successfully transferred the contacts - which are still on my phone), but the Calendar weirdly split into 6 calendars (2 of which were linked to my G-Mail which only had a few entries) (4 were linked to my MSN / Hotmail email and contained all the major events/data). I never created calendars that were separate or liked them to 2 different emails. I just typed entries into the I-Phone calendar. However, the calendar did exist on the new I-Phone for 24 hours. Something happened during transfer. When the Apple Genius Bar tech was attempting to back up my Calendar & merge the 6 calendars, everything disappeared in his hand while he was looking at it.
I am hoping that some really good data recovery expert exists that can restore the calendar that was in both I-Phones yesterday. It is completely devastating if I can't recover it.
Any help, or referrals, is great appreciated!!!!

stop that, or how can i capture what is written on the console before it disappears (so that I can troubleshoot it)?

I ran ProcMon and went to the ProcessTree window, but could not find any cmd.exe there (and hence could not see the commandline). (I also watched the video about ProcMon).
The closest I could find in the ProcessTree window was conhost.exe, with commandline showing:

In the result column, I noticed some "buffer overflow" and "name not found", many associated with "tunmgr.exe" the Blackberry Link Communications Manager.
I also noticed that in the ProcessTree Window, the only two process lines with an End Time are tunmgr.exe and conhost.exe.

Your source video file is probably muxed.
Neither QT Pro or iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
Try MPEG Streamclip.
