IPod Music back onto iTunes

Looking back I think what I've done may be stupid. I've got a Powerbook G4 with 20G of space. So what I had been doing is burning my CD's onto iTunes, getting them onto my 20G iPod and then deleting them from iTunes. I was doing this so I could minimize the songs on iTunes (saving space theoretically) and keep them on the iPod instead. I got an external hard drive for Christmas, but now I can't get them back onto iTunes from my iPod (or onto the external hd for that matter). Any suggestions or am I toast? I have 1200 songs on my iPod so I'd hate to re-rip them all back onto iTunes from scratch.
Thanks in advance.

There is many way to copy your muis back to your iTunes, my suggestion is to pick one of the following 3rd party software to do the copy..
1. iPodRip
2. Senuti
3. Ollies iPod Extractor

  • Sincing music back onto itunes

All of our music was removed from our itunes because my husband moved them to an external HD and it got all messed up. I tried to sinc my music back onto my itunes and only the perchased songs were put back on it. Can I get all my music back on my itunes? Some of it was from our own CD's that we coppied and added to itunes. what do I do?

When you say sync your music back do you mean you are you trying to copy back from an iPod? The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. • Getting music back onto iTunes?

I just had to wipe out my computer becuase i was having memory problems. I was wondering if there are any tools that i can use to get my music from my iPod back onto my computer? I remember reading something a while back with a person who had the same problem but i cannot seem to find the topic. If anyone can help me, i would really appreciate it. I can't live without my music.
ps: Will the program put my videos back on, too?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod

Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Reloading Ipod music back onto I tunes Library

We have recently had to have our pc reloaded with windows xp. All my itunes were backed up but my daughters were not.!!!
She is not very happy with Dad as you can imagine?
Can you restore the music from the ipod back onto the PC's itunes?

    Hi earache1,
You can use a program called iPod Rip for Windows. This will let you get your songs back onto your computer.

  • HD reformat & want to put iPod music back into iTunes

I have been using my 60GB 5th gen iPod as usual (so the music was NOT saved as a file nor was the iPod being used as a hard drive) when the computer crashed. I had to completely erase the HD and reformat it, so the computer is starting from scratch.
Can I somehow get the music on the iPod back into iTunes when it was not saved into a music folder on the iPod? The computer crash was unexpected, so the music on the iPod is not saved into one folder as per the instructions on copying music from one computer to another via the iPod.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I plug the iPod into the computer, iTunes will sync with it and erase all of the music on the iPod to match the empty library on the computer, right?
Do you think it's possible to connect the iPod to a PC which may be able to see the music as a file and then save the music to the PC & pull it off of the PC back to the Mac? Connecting the iPod to a Mac that does not have iTunes only results in contacts, calendar, & notes to be accessible, but the music is not seen on the iPod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'd hate to lose anything! Thank you!

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I plug the iPod into the computer, iTunes will sync with it and erase all of the music on the iPod to match the empty library on the computer, right?"
If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

  • Getting my music back onto itunes

I recently wiped out my computer to fix a win 7 upgrade issue --it wasnt reading my sound card thus sykpe not working. i reinstalled all factory back up discs and works great. about to have a meltdown tho because all of my music on my ipod does not go "back into" itunes. i transferred purchases so have those but a years worth of work installing my and daughters cd collections are not.....when i first got a new computer i wiped it all out before (because i synced it to the empty itunes,,,,i thought as long as i didnt do that i'd be ok.} i said then i'd never go thru this again, but i did, i built it all back up and now im scared to death i lost it all again. it is still all on my ipod. i have back up discs from computer but dont want to load those because im afraid i'll load the problems from the program back on. is there really no way to ever get my music back on computer. i tried a download program with no luck. will new music sync on it? God Bless you for being out there to answer!!!:D

You will need third-party software to transfer your content from your iPod back into iTunes. There are many such utilities, so if the one you tried didn't work, try something else. Check out this post from Zevoneer for some media recovery options:

There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Putting music back onto computer then onto ipod

I recently had to wipe my hard drive clean. I backed up all my music from Itunes onto an external drive. After I resolved my computer issues I then downloaded itunes and put my music back into itunes from the external drive. I downloaded a few new songs as well. I went to sync an ipod and only the new songs loaded onto the ipod. All of the songs are in itunes but the old ones won't play, I can't edit them in any way and they didn't load onto the ipod.
I hope I am clear on the problem I am having and hope someone can help.

Do you not have a backup copy?
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
You can also do a forum search, as this asked and answered several times a day.
Zevoneer ( a fellow user) explains the options very well.

I have all my music on an external media drive that has crashed. How can I get the music of my ipod touch back onto the comupter without loosing the music when it syncs. in order to start rebuilding my music collection?

You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That should switch the assocation of the device to the new library but it is not something I've personally tested.
When you get it all working, make a backup!

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.
