Ipod music not accessible in itunes
So I recently received a new ipod due to issues with my last. Now when I plug my new ipod into my computer, I can't access the music in itunes.... for example to change names of songs or whatever! I am assuming this is because it is a guest ipod and it doesn't have the right serial number blah blah...is this right to assume? How can I change this? I just downloaded itunes again but it's doing the same thing. Do I have to find my old itunes install disk and fix it that way? I have no idea where the disk is...but any hints would be helpful.

You mean you can't access the music on your iPod through iTunes?
Select your iPod under devices. On the main summary page, there are 4 options at the bottom. Check the "manually manage songs and videos" option. This should give you access to the songs on your iPod.

IPod Touch music not accessible in iTunes
My brother's new iTouch shows up in iTunes (not the newest version, the previous version) on my PC, but there is no "expand" triangle next to the name.
When I double click on it, it does not open up to show the content, and nothing can be played from it, or loaded onto it. He claims he has connected it to someone else's computer and it worked fine, and he does have music on it that he plays through the headphones.
I don't think it is MAC formatted, or else it would not even show up in my iTunes I think.
BTW iTunes works fine with my Nano.
Any ideas?

Check "Manually manage music and videos" on the Summary tab. This will affect how music and videos are syncing to the iPod touch.

IPhone music not accessible through iTunes
My phone is recognized on iTunes as a device, but all of the sudden there are no music tabs or playlist tabs--the main device tab is the only thing I can click on. And I can't manage my music through iTunes anymore. I just updated my iTunes and my iPhone software is up to date, but it did not fix the problem. Any clues?
Thanks for your response. I have turned on iTunes Match in the Settings>Music. I cannot find Setting>iTunes & App Stores. I do see Settings>Store and within that setting Automatic Downloads Music and Apps which I have turned on. I don't see anywhere else that iTunes Match is mentioned except Settings>Music. Am I mising something?

reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8. After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes. My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem. I can eliminate any problems with the cable and connection.
I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Have you tried on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem?

I've recently bought a new Macbook Pro and in my Itunes Library everything I have purchased from Itunes is in my new Itunes Library.
However I want to transfer all my music (not purchased from itunes) from my Ipad/Iphone to my new Itunes Library.... and I have absoutely no idea how to do this? Also I'm scared to press sync when my ipad is plugged into my Mac incase will loose all this music!
Help Please!The iphone/ipad/ipod is not a backup/storage device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone/ipad/ipod.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer. -

On an imac with 10.6.1 Mac OS and iTunes 9.1.1
Recently the HDD failed and Apple replaced, but since then ipod touch not recognized in iTunes.
Have followed all the steps in the support document for resetting, rebooting, reinstalling etc. and ipod touch is recognized the first time after following this process, but then after that when I boot up my mac and iTunes a second time, it stops being recognized again. I cannot reinstall iTunes every time I want to sync my ipod touch!!! Anyone else had similar issues and solved?
ThanksI am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

I already uninstall itunes and made sure there were no file left before I installed again (it didn't appear to be any files left but music I had on it before was still there when I reinstall it)

On an iPod Nano 2G, the iPod will not show in iTunes
Using an iPod Nano 2 G, when I plug it into a Mac, the iPod will not show in iTunes. The iPod will charge, but will not sync. This happens across multiple Mac's, so the issue seems to be the Nano, not the computer(s). The iPod will actually show for about 2 seconds in the left sidebar, then it disappears. Any suggestions about how to either fix this, or maybe how to restore the iPod's software. The iPod otherwise seems to be working correctly, i.e. will play music, etc. we have tried switching ports, cables and computers, same results.

I have my personal music (not purchased from Itunes) stored in two locations, on my PC and on an external HD. How can I find out which directory itunes uses to access this music? I am using Itunes version 11.4.0.18. Thanks
Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.4 and at first iTunes didn't work so i came on here and found a way to fix it. Now that I have fixed it my iPod does not appear on iTunes or on my computer.
Removed. Re-synced. Still not working. Factory reset the phone, re-installed music... made a GIANT "Other" file instead of actually adding any songs.
Factory resetting again. Any other solutions?
EDIT: If It helps, I'm doing this all over USB connection, not trying to sync music through wifi or anything. -

Hello - Please help me if you can, my ipod does not show in itunes nor can i update my ipod. Please don't suggest that I update my itunes because i had aloooooooot of trouble with the new itunes 6.0 or greater (something is wrong with that update)and i just lucked into installing the older version which was given with my ipod. My music is there but I can't get my songs - is there any way I can get my songs to go to my ipod with this problem? Thanks for any assistance.
