IPod music randomly skips songs, stops, starts, uses up battery

I've had a problem that appears sporadically when I go for a long run (over 40 minutes or so). After playing reliably for 40 minutes or so, the IPod on my Iphone 3G starts skipping, stopping and starting randomly, kicks in when I've paused the song, etc.
I tried everything I could think of: I turned off the "shake and shuffle" feature, switched to "airplane" mode just in case there might be a problem with 3g or wifi. The only thing that worked was turning off the Iphone and restarting it. However, when i started the Ipod feature again, the same thing happens.
It's driving me crazy!

Hi Victoria,
First, I'd try a Reset and then a Restore. Just note that by doing a restore, all your music will be removed from your iPod, so make sure it's all backed up somewhere.
Hope this helps,

  • IPod touch randomly skipping songs

I have recently overhauled my entire iTunes music library and sorted out all of my albums, album artwork and artist names etc in preparation for syncing all these songs onto my iPod (well over 240 albums, 3,500 songs and roughly 30 gig of music data)
I selected "Songs" and have shuffled the entire library so I get a mixture of tunes while walking my dog. I have noticed that the iPod will randomly start and stop songs, this mainly happens near the end of a song - the track length is 4:18 and it will stop at 4:15 and go to the next song. I have checked my settings and the option to shuffle tracks when the iPod is shaken is turned off.
I have also experienced that there has been approximately 30 seconds left of a track and then it will go into an entirely different song from another artist. When I click the arrow to go to the next track it will pick this exact song and the time or section of the song it's up to (for example 2:04 into the next song).
When I say that I've overhauled my music library, I converted songs in iTunes to AAC 256kbps format (iTunes plus), I noticed some longer songs defaulted to a time of 4:58 (usually these were 6 minute + songs) so I converted these to AAC 256kbps using a third party program (MediaHuman Audio Converter).
I currently have all of my music residing on another hard drive separate to my Windows 7 OS. I'm at a loss as to what to do as I've restored my iPod several times, manually deleted music and re-added it all with the same errors. They do not seem to happen on particular music tracks as I place the iPod on shuffle often so it will be random what I hear during a walk.
Any advice or replies are appreciated - it really has me stumped as to what is going on.

Close the music app in the multitasking bar. Then try again.
Restart/Reset/Restore your iPod. (in that order).

  • My ipod touch now skips songs I bought from itunes (only the ones from 2013 to now) and won't play them. How do I fix this?

Hey folks! My iPod Touch now skips songs I bought from iTunes (but only the songs I have purchased since 2013) and won't play them. What do I do?

First try deleting the songs and redownloading them
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Next
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Why is my radio randomly skipping songs?

Hi, my ITunes radio is randomly skipping songs, without me touching the screen. I have wiped off the screen, and there is nothing on it. I have tried resetting it from the Lock/Unlock button, and the home button, but that didn't work. There is a small scratch at the top of my screen, but it has been there for a while, and hasn't effected my phone before. I hope someone can help me with this problem.
                                                                                    Thanks,

    Hi Quinnyjoe,
Don't worry, there's nothing physically wrong with your phone. My radio stations on iTunes Radio worked fine on iOS 8.2. But, on iOS 8.3, I too am experiencing the multiple song skipping issue (with titles showing for split second and changing continuously, until resuming play on a random track). Although I only experienced it last night (on iPhone, haven't tried on Mac) and am not experiencing the issue as of this morning (at least until now didn't). I think, it's either an OS bug or something's wrong online on Apple's end. In any case, it has either already been fixed or should be fixed in coming days.
    Hope this helps

  • X200S won't start using a battery

X200s works fine when connected to AC but won't start using the battery.  The on button has no impact, no indicator lights , nothing.  I have tried it with two different batteries, in both cases the battery condition shows good and fully charged in Lenovo Power Manager - any ideas?

The fuses are not considered replaceable. They are soldered to the motherboard and are not a job for a "radio shack" soldering iron. A quartz preheater and a temperature controlled rework station is the minimum equipment you would need. It requires a complete disassembly to determine whether the problem is a fuse or something else. I do not have an x200s motherboard to look at to be sure, but the charging fuse for the main battery is usually near the battery connector. I will add that the problem you describe more likely to be a power transistor than a fuse, unless there was some sort of event that happened at the time it stopped working.

  • New iPod randomly skipping songs

I got a new iPod classic 120GB, replacing my old 60gb. I loaded it up with my songs and stuff, and started using it, but after a while it skipped to next song halfway through a song. This happened a few times, and once the ipod even restarted itself (after displaying a low quality 8bit colour apple logo image). I then restored my iPod, and checked for latest software, and it seemed to be better for a while, but it just skipped a song again.
I'm pretty sure all the song files are mp3, but maybe some AACs. Songs that skipped played fine other times. iPod hasn't been dropped since I got it... I guess I have to take it to an apple center for warranty... Does anyone elses new 120GB skip songs?
    Thanks
    Rodger

Iv had my 120GB Classic since early September when they came out and iv noticed that it skips on a few song s but not many, though I do tend to listen to the same small selection of music! In my experience it has skipped at the exact same point in a particular song. as someone else has said on here, i can fast search through the song past that point and it will play the rest no problem. its like there is a speciffic marker in the song that it doesn't like. Pretty stupid if you ask me!
However, it happened to a Lost Prophets album first and the only way i found round it was to re-record the album in and its worked fine since. But since then iv found more songs that do it. Its really frustrating!!!!
I might look at taking it back then as i thought it was just my music. I didn't realise anyone else was having the same problems!
    We shall see...

  • IPod 80gb Classic skipping songs

I have a new 80gb iPod Classic which skips over songs randomly. I can play a song and have it skip to the next song, but go back and play the song again without skipping so it is not skipping over in the same spot, or even same song. This is incredibly irritating because I often listen to radio shows I put on my iPod which are 4 hours long that I have to go back to where it was 3 or 4 times for one show.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I think I have a similar problem. I posted this in another thread, but I think it may help you more.
I have a brand new 120 GB, 6G iPod Classic, (fully updated) less than a month old I put all my music on it (I have about 22 gigs worth) and I started using it. I mostly play music via playlist and shuffle. In the MIDDLE (or end, the point is, the song would be playing fine) of a playing a song in a playlist it would decided to skip to the next song (no pattern to when or which song it would skip, it was just random) The first time it happened, I was like okay, weird, skipped back, and it played the same song all the way through with no problems. Then a few songs later it would do the same thing. Again, completely random.
I started researching like crazy over the past week, and discovered it was a pretty common problem. I read a number of possible explanations, it was a hardware defect, it was a software defect, there was a problem with the new iTunes transferring songs. I decided to pursue the latter. I read into it some, a lot of people seemed to be convinced there is a problem with the new iTunes and transferring a large quantity of music. I read someone recommend a program called Mp3 Validator that scans music files and fixes and problems that may cause them to skip. (presumably why the songs worked fine in iTunes but skip randomly once transferred to the iPod)
Anyway, to make a long story longer, I tried the program, scanned the music files directly off my iPod music directory--it fixed a couple hundred problem files. I had it going today, just playing through the playlist, got through 10-12 songs without any skipping. Granted, it wasn't an extended listening session, but I'm holding on to hope.
I can't say for sure that this fixed the problem, or if it even WAS the problem (for all I know it COULD be a hardware defect). But if you are getting REALLY frustrated by the random skipping, you could give it a try.
I'll definitely be having an extended play session with it this weekend, so I can give you an update on whether it is a surefire solution or not.

  • Ipod video is skipping songs

    Hi there!
I have had my ipod video for months now. Previously, I could choose "shuffle songs" from the main menu and just listen to my 3,000+ songs in random order.
I rebuilt my computer a month or so ago, and reinstalled the ipod software and itunes. When I did so, I had to completely re-synch all the stuff in my itunes with my ipod.
And the phenomenon I'm experiencing now is that when I do "shuffle songs," it skips songs. It will show the artist and title for a second, then show another artist and title for a second, then finally play the third song. (it's not always the third song--it's random). I have tried going to the song that was skipped directly through the artist's folder, but it still won't play. On my desktop computer (windows, by the way), I can go to that song, and it plays fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for your help...
    Susan

I had to completely start over with all my itunes stuff when my computer crashed a few months ago and that's pretty much like what you've had to do with your computer. The same thing happended to me, a lot of the songs started top skip over - there's two reasons for this(there could be more, but these are the two that I know of!)Firstly - do all your songs play in yout itunes libery??? If the songs that are skipping over don't play, the computer can't locate them(this is probably because you've had to re-build your computer - this can cause itunes to become confuesd as to the location of the songs - make sure your libery has the correct destination for all your music) and thus they won't play in the ipod.
And Secondly, If they do still play in itunes it sounds like you may have a hardware problem - that's what I had.I had to get a brand new one as a result!) The best way to try and fix this is to completely restore the ipod so that it's back to the original settings and then sync the ipod again.
That should fix your problem. If you end up having no luck with that chances are the problem really is your ipod(the hardware) and I'd send it back to be replaced. Hope this hepls you in some way!

  • IPod Classic 80GB Skipping songs

    Hello there,
I am facing a trouble with my iPod, there are some songs that it keeps skipping, see, it starts playing the song, and every time at the same second of the music, it just skips the song and goes to the next one of the list.
It doesn't happen with all songs, it happens only with the SAME files, and I can say that these files are NOT corrupted, cause they play normaly on my pc AND, if I press and hold the forward key on the iPod to pass through the moment that the song is skipped, it plays the rest of the song without any problem, so, it happens only in an exact spot of the file, does anyone knows what's happening?
Hope you've understood me, my english is not so good.
    Thanks for helping.

I have the same problem on my ipod 80gb classic that I purchased recently. It is VERY annoying that many files have this skipping problem on the ipod but play perfectly fine on my other mp3 players (creative/sansa etc) and on itunes...
The problem is, there is no way to know in advance which songs in your collection (huge) will skip. When I had been to the local apple store for help, they suggested that one possibility is for me to re-encode all my 80gb of music, how wonderful?? And they also started trying to give vague justifications like DRM protection issues that can cause this...asking me to reinstall itunes quick time etc...crap.
Added to this is the scroll wheel which is not so responsive...
I had some respect for apple products, and used to have the opinion they do a few (only) things but do it perfectly... but that feeling is gone, big disappointment.

  • Ipod 7th generation skipping song

    Hello everybody,
I'm new on this forum. This is my problem:
I have an iPod 7th generation. I have 300 mp3 on my iPod. Some of those are skipping when I listen but, if I connect iPod to my pc, open iTunes and go on "iPod of user" then select "music" and play those .mp3, then they play correctly.
What can I do? Download another time?

    Hey there superbeda,
If these songs play just fine on your iTunes library but continue to skip when played on your iPod Nano 7th gen, I would next reset your device with these steps:
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
Reset iPod nano. First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Then test the issue again. If it persists, I would restore the iPod with iTunes on your computer:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling
