Ipod music transfer from PC to Mac?

Hello,
I recently reformatted my ipod shuffle to PC so as to use as a portable drive. On my PC I have music that I do not have on my Mac. Itunes deleted the music from mac and replaced with music from PC. when I plugged the ipod back into the Mac, it asked some weird question about which library to use (yes or no options), one answer(no?)did nothing and no longer recognized the ipod until an unplug and reconnect. the other answer(yes?)replaced the music library with the macintosh's original playlist.
So, is it possible to transfer music from a PC to mac? Is there some sort of copyright issue I'm missing here? If I replace the ipod music from the PC itunes library again, how can I transfer that music to the Mac?

I found this which I think answers the question:
Can I take a friend's iPod shuffle and browse or play its content on my machine (like I can with other iPods)?
No, there is no manual mode that allows you to view or play the content from a friend's iPod shuffle on your computer. This also means that you cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle like you can with other iPods.
Can I transfer data to iPod shuffle from multiple computers when in disk mode?
Yes. If you put iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can transfer data from multiple computers from the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows). You can only load music from one computer, using iTunes.
Can I use iPod shuffle with both a Macintosh and a Windows computer?
Yes. When you place iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can use it to transfer data between multiple computers, running either operating system.
Thanks anyway, seems like a strange thing not to be able to do.

  • IPod music transfer from Mac to PC?

Hey everyone. So my mac is having some issues and wont load, so Id like to transfer all of my music from my Mac iTunes to my PC iTunes, if I plug in my iPod into my PC will all of the music thats currently on it get erased from it or will it transfer over to the PCs iTunes and then reformat into the PC format for the iPod? Any help would be great, thanks!

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 or MacDrive (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.
Otherwise, it's a no go because without such software, Windows cannot recognize a Mac formatted iPod.

  • IPod music (synced from a PC) -- mac

I have a friend that wants to move a bunch of songs from his iPod, which has been synced and configured for his PC, to my mac. There are plenty of threads/sites that show you how to move it to a NEW mac... But I want to preserve all of the music that's already on the Mac. I just want to add everything that's on the iPod to the Mac. How can I do this?

There was a glitch I ran across in iTunes.  I had always had Manually manage music and videos checked and sometime betweein iOS 5.0, 5.1 and 5.1.1 there was an issue that caused the check to go a way and I could no longer manage my musically manually.  I rechecked the Manage Manually check box and got the message that it would erase all my music and videos.  I hate having the system manage this for me so I went through the painful process of re-adding all my music and playlists to my phone to get this feature back.  Since I did this I haven't had any problems but it was a real pain when I had to do it.
There may be another answer to this but that was what I had to do to get Manual Music Management back on my phone.

First, when you are going to turn off or restart your Mac, you will see a box called "Reopen windows when logging back in" in the shutdown or restart window. Untick this box and see if the App Store opens automatically in the next startup.
If it starts, open System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items, and see if the App Store shows up. If so, remove it from this list

  • IPod transfer from PC to MAC

I just got a mac and am new to this whole thing, so bare with me. I have had my iPod synced to my PC for about a year now and want to transfer my iTunes library to my MAC, is this possible, if so How?

Do you have a way to transfer from iPod to iTunes
Problem - The majority of my music was in the itunes library on my PC. That computer crashed and all data was lost. My only backup of my music is the music on my iPod.
How do I take the music that is on my iPod and transfer it to the itunes library on my Mac. If I hit sync then my iPod will be wiped clean and it will filled with the iTunes library on my Mac (which is less then what is currently on my iPod)
    Thanks

  • Music Transfer from iPod to iPod

How can I transfer my music from one iPod to another new one?

You can't transfer from one iPod to another. If your songs are in iTunes connect your new iPod and it will update from there. When you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect it to your computer and it will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually.

  • IPod classic - switching from Windows to Mac

I have an iPod classic and am switching from Windows to Mac - what's the best way to retain my iPod library? Thanks!

If you just want to connect and use the iPod on the Mac then set it to manual update on your PC first. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
Macs can read Windows drives, the iPod shuffle for instance comes Windows formatted and is fully supported (you can update the firmware or restore it on the Mac and it retains it's Windows formatting). Other iPods (such as a 5th Generation or Classic for example) can be used in Windows format on a Mac but have to have the firmware updated or be restored on a PC to maintain the formatting. If however you don't intend using the iPod on a PC again you'll need to transfer your library from your PC so you can restore and reformat the iPod and keep it's firmware updated.
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your new iTunes directly from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only

TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows

iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Photo and music transfer to iPad with Mac OS 10.4.11

Since iPad will not sync with OS 10.4 and had to use PC iTunes how can I transfer my music and photos from the Mac or iPhone? Anyway to transfer from iPhone to PC iTunes and then sync to iPad?

If you have an external drive used for backup purposes with your Mac which has enough storage capacity to store your entire iTunes library, you can copy your iTunes named folder located in the Music folder on your Mac to the external drive and with iTunes quit on your PC, place the iTunes named folder in the Music folder on your PC. You will need to authorize your PC with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
You can also transfer photos on your Mac to your PC with the external drive, or if both computers are networked in some fashion - via Ethernet or via a wireless network, you can transfer the data from your Mac to your PC that way.
iTunes also includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only. With your iPhone connected to iTunes on your PC and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process is a one way transfer process only. Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on your iPhone - the original resolution of these photos is reduced on your iPhone, which is why transferring these photos in the opposite direction is not supported.

  • Itunes transfer from PC to mac

    Hi,
I can't figure out how to transfer my itunes account from my PC to my mac laptop to save my life. I know that you can use an ipod to transfer it over, but I would prefer not to do it that way. Please help!

Do you wish to use an external hard drive? If so you can do that, or you can use a local network, or even CDs/DVDs (a lot of them if you have a lot of music.)
Let me know how you wish to transfer it and I'll be able to more accurately detail what you need to do.
And in case you ask, no, you can't simply request a re-download of all of your purchases on another computer. You will need to use some sort of method to transfer your files over.

  • Importing just music FILES from PC to Mac

    Hi,
Just bought my wife a mac and want to transfer her music files from the PC to the Mac. The PC does NOT have itunes running anymore. Let's just say the itunes, at least on the PC, does some rather dumb things. Anyhow, itunes on the PC is dead. Playlists and such are all gone. All I want to do is transfer the files. Some are 128kb purchased from itunes. Some are WAV files ripped from CDs. I don't want itunes to convert the files in any way whatsoever. I just want to copy them into an appropriate folder and have itunes find them.
What would happen is I copied all the sub-folders and files from her "iTunes Music" folder into the "iTunes Media" folder on the mac?
Any advice for a weary soul who is trying ever so hard to keep and open mind about the virtues of itunes?
    Thanks!

not necessary. installing the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver allows OS X to write to NTFS formatted drives.
That worked!..... Well, at least so far. I was able to copy all the music files over. However, I'm not able to delete the "Not Added" folder that was created in "Automatically Add to iTunes" when I unsuccessfully tried to copy before. It contains several folders named by the date and time. In those folders are some album art jpegs and system.ini files. When I try to delete anything I just hear the classic mac "beep", but no other info is provided.
Any idea how I might delete these? I don't want start itunes if it's going to automatically load garbage into the library.
    Thanks!!!!
