IPod Nano 1G 4GB - Multiple Problems

I have 2 problems that all started about a month ago when I was away. I had to go to a business meeting and I left my iPod in the pocket of my pants in my hotel. I forgot about the stuff in the pants, and put them in the laundry bags, so long story short my iPod along with some money went through a washer and dryer. The first problem arose when I realized that my iPod went through the laundry. I took it out and the backlight was not working. Then today (a month later), I found out my iPod has trouble determining battery power, so after a full charge, it shuts off with a "Low Battery Power" message, and if not an error it just shuts off without warning. I want to be able to get some troubleshooting before buying a new iPod.

reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8.  After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes.  My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem.  I can eliminate any problems with the cable and connection.
I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

  • My iPod nano says "4GB" on the back. Which dock adapter do I order?

My iPod Nano says "4GB" on the back. Which dock adapter do I order, or do I need a "generation" label?

Thanks, deggie. It's actually my daughter's; she wants to play it through a docking speaker (JBL), and threw away the adapter-pak that came with it. I'll get the model # and post later.

  • Does the third generation iPod Nano have allot of problems with it?

I was wondering if you think that there is an unusual ammount of defective iPod nanos, or iPod nanos with problems.
I know that forums are mainly a support page, so I'm only going to see posts about PROBLEMS with the iPod, but i wanted some opinions.
Should i wait to buy the new iPod nano, or should i go ahead and purchase?
EDIT: Also, remember when steve annouced that the iPod Video could play songs with no song skip. I think it's called "continuous playback". Can the nano do that?
And last of all, does the nano back scratch as easily as the 1st gen nanos?
    Thanks in advance,

I am on my third Nano3 - the store replaced it without hesitation. This one is (knock on wood) working very well. If you are close to an Apple Store, the risk is low. And they ARE cool!
They indicated that they had not had many returns, so it might have been just a bit of bad luck (after all, it is the 13th iPod in my family, and my 7th...)
I have not tested the gapless play.
I do wish, they had stayed with the Aluminum finish on the back. I never used a cover on my Nano 2, and it looks great. This one has the marring typical of polished SS backs. You can polish it out, of course.

  • IPod Nano 3rd Gen. Problems [Rebooting, Won't Sync Contact/Calendar Data]

I have noticed that my iPod nano will reboot itself after it has been syncing/charging. It reboots when I go to the last playlist that was playing before I began to sync/charge it. Also, it would randomly reboots when I am selection a playlist.
Then, it won't sync my contact/calendar data if it nearly full. But I can sync them when it is nearly empty.
What is causing the problem and how can I fix it?

if you have done restores then possibly it is a firmware issue... i would take it to the apple store if you can to get it looked at...

  • Ipod nano 7th generation usb problem

New iPod nano 7th generation not being recognized when USB plugged in. Not showing a new device or anything.  Have uninstalled/installed iTunes7.  USBs working with other devices including iPhone4S.  Using Windows 7 Home version with all updates.  Have rebooted several times.  No other USB devices plugged in while connecting new nano.  Tried on another machine with Windows 7 Professional with same results - not working.  Any suggestions?  What am I missing?  Any new drivers for 7th generation?  Did see OS 1.01 already available for nano, but cannot download until PC and iTunes recognize the device.  Thanks.

I figured out the problem.  Very simple, but overlooked at first.  It was the cable that came with the iPod nano.  I plugged it into an outlet using my iPhone cube charger, then connected my nano.  It would not recharge the nano.  Went to the Apple store and exchanged it for one that charged the nano while there.  When i plugged the new one into the PC it recognized the nano, opened iTunes and walked me thru the usual setup.  Synced with no problems.
    So check your cord.

  • IPod nano with computer connection problems and more

My iPod Nano is always stuck at 1:06am and on the completely wrong date. The time will not change. If I try to change the date and time, it freezes up and I have to do a hard reset so I can get it to function. This problem it has had for quite a while now, and I don't view as a very pressing issue.
The following problem however is new to just yesterday. It impedes me from updating the iPod or adding new music. I added new music to it a month or so ago and yesterday was the first time I have tried to do anything with it on a computer in 2014.
It will not connect to a computer. The moment I try to chord it up, my entire computer runs slower, and iTunes crashes. My computer also doesn't always recognize that it is plugged into the it even though the iPod will have a "Do not disconnect" screen and is charging.
Another interesting thing to note is that I have tried to synch my iPod up to a few different computers and the results are the same, and if you try to shut down or boot up a computer with my iPod attached to it, it won't. It'll stop mid process and refuse to shut down or boot up.
I have followed some of the troubleshooting guides on similar sounding problems to no avail.
I realize  that my iPod is also fairly old as far as iPods go (2008) and I will probably have to just get a new mp3 player. However, I would like to avoid that outcome as long as possible.

first off , i don't think there should be any issues updating the router's firmware on a vista machine....
the other things that you can try are :
changing the MTU size to 1365 ,
under the "advanced wireless settings" subtab, change the beacon interval - 50 , fragmentation and RTS threshold - 2304 ...

  • IPod nano 6th gen. shuffle problem

    Hi Everyone,
I just bought a iPod nano 6th generation but I have a problem with the shuffle function. When I select a playlist and choose "shuffle" it shuffles ALL the songs i have on my iPod, not just the playlist I selected... I would like to shuffle just the songs in one playlist.
    How to solve this?
    Thanks!
    Nanneke

you just have to enter the playlist. select a song, press on the center of the screen, change page(going on the right side) and then choose shuffle(pressing on the symbol!) that's the way for shuffling your playlist!

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen Screen Problems

I have only been using my nano 5G for less than a month and I'm facing screen problems. Two horizontal lines appear about one centimeter from the bottom of the screen similar the where the older nano 4G screen borders. Anyone else faced this same problem? I really hate to have to put all my music back after getting it repaired.

When you reinstalled iTunes 8, did you use it on one of the newer 5th gen ipod Nanos, or a previous model ipod?
From all I'm reading everywhere, this new iTunes 9 is a real mess! I'm planning on re-installing back to
iTunes 8 soon ... I can't stand the slow speed and crappy user interface Apple did on this latest version. It looks like a bunch of high school kids put iTunes 9 together, definitely not an Apple quality
    product.

  • Ipod nano 4th gen sync problems

Hello please help my ipod nano wont sync with my computer or itunes but charges  tryed everything updating itunes trying different computers bought of kijji please help

First, make sure you are running the latest versions of your OS. You should be running the latest service pack for whatever version of windows you are running. Here are the basic system requirements as stated in the Apple store:
    Mac Requirements
    USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
    iTunes 8 or later
Internet connection (broadband recommended; fees may apply)
    iTunes Store account
    PC Requirements
    USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3 or later)
    iTunes 8 or later
Internet connection (broadband recommended; fees may apply)
    iTunes Store account
Second, start the process with the iPod connected directly to the system, not through a USB hub. See if this changes things for you.
Also make sure you have gone through the basic troubleshooting as stated here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano/
If problems persist, it may be the installation of iTunes that is causing trouble. Uninstalling iTunes and re-installing could clear things up. Here is a link to instructions on removing iTunes:

Of course, start with the easy things first and work from there. Hope this gets you running smoothly.

  • IPod Nano 4th gen scrolling problem

I have an iPod nano 4th generation.
The problem I have is that the scrolling in the menus does not work. The only thing that works is pressing the Menu buttom together with the middle buttom to reset the iPod. FYI... The iPod is fully charged and I tried resetting using the iTunes software.
    Any help would be nice!
    Many thanks

After leaving the iPod to charge for at least 30 minutes, have you tried resetting it?

  • IPod Nano, 4th Gen. Problems with playback.

When watching a clip, the iPod Nano will suddenly start to fastforward halfway, or around 8 minutes into the clip. This doesn't happen to all my movies and clips, just the ones that are around 10-15mins long. The audio stays the same and does not fast forward, but the visuals begin to skip by the time the images end, the audio is still going. When playing the same clip back on iTunes, or other programs, the clip is perfectly fine. It only begins to fastforward when watching it on the iPod Nano.
This is very frustrating! Any help would be appreciated.
I have also tried restoring and restarting the iPod, but nothing works.
