  • IPod nano (4th gen) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.3

I have an iPod nano (4th gen). After upgarding iTunes to v 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro) I get the follwoing message:
iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.
Unfortunately, I restored to factory settings, which erased everything, but each time I connect the iPod I get the same message.
It must be an issue with compatibility because I get the same message with my wife's iPod (same gen), but hers syncs just fine on her iTunes (v 10), and I get the same message using two different USB cables.
So now my iPod is essentially empty (factory settings) and as good as a paperweight unless there is a way to get iTunes to recognize and sync. If I could get past the error message, I suspect it would be easy to sync automatically or manually.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi JMfromMN,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod isn't recognized by your computer, this article may help:

Since your wife's iPod displays the same behavior omn your computer, it sounds like the troubleshooting for the iPod itself (which you've largely already done anyway) can be skipped.

  • Ipod nano 3rd Gen not recognized by itunes or windows 7

    USB device not recognized.
    things I have done
put Ipod in disk mode still didn't recognized
My Ipod Classic 6th Gen works fine
It shows 3 Mass Storage Device
when I plug in Ipod nano 3rd gen it shows unknow device
have deleted Mass storage devices and Apple Moble Devices
    unpluged computer from wall
    nothing solving problem
I also tried it on my laptop its not being recognized
my wife Ipod nano is doing the same thing as mine
its got to be the software download from itunes because it has worked on all previous versions.

I have the same problem. My Iphone 4s works fine when docked to PC. PC won't recognize my 3rd Gen Nano. Same goes for my Work PC. They don't recognize it nor will plugging it in to a PC charge it. I have to plug it into wall socket to charge.
I have tried resetting, I have tried downloading newest Itunes.
Must be the Nano itself if it doesn't get recognized by mutliple PCs?
I haven't used the Nano for probably 2 months. Previously it worked fine...
One thing, when docked to my laptop during a reboot/startup, it intially starts to charge the Nano, but once setup is finished it doesn't recognize it any longer...

  • Ipod nano 6th gen not recognized in itunes

I recently purchased a used "AS IS" ipod nano 6th gen. The only problem with it is that it's not recognized by iTunes. I was fairly sure on purchasing it that solving this would be as simple as resetting it, or, at worst, figure it out by googling the problem. The method involving holding down the sleep/wake button and volume down for 8 seconds until the apple logo appears didn't help. Putting it in disk mode didn't help. I have a mac and I suspect the original owner of the ipod may have used windows, so I tried both of these things again with my dad's PC. I at least got some response--an error message saying the usb device couldn't be read or something of that sort (I can look up the exact message again tomorrow if it's relevant).
I don't think it's the USB plug or cord, because both of these work with my iphone and another ipod nano in the household. I don't think it's itunes either, for the same reason. I'm running Lion, fully up-to-date, on a Macbook Pro. ITunes is also fully up-to-date.
I wouldn't be devastated if I can't fix it, since it still charges and plays music (the previous owner's hip-hop/club type music works pretty well for workouts), and it's probably not worth it to me to pay Apple to repair it. But…if anyone has any suggestions for things I can try to get it totally working, I'd love to hear them!

    solved it :-)
Apparently it's not enough to reinstall iTunes itself, but all mobile device software should be uninstalled, then your pc has to be rebooted and then iTunes has to be installed again.

  • Ipod nano 6th gen not recognized by itunes

I recently updated my version of itunes and now whenever I plug in my ipod nano 6th gen an error message pops up saying it doesn't recognize my ipod. Why odes this even happen?

For anyone else having this problem, I found this solution to work. Try this first:
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
d)If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    f) If still not works, try re-install iTunes. Go into the Unstall Programs (in Control Panel) and uninstall everything that says Apple, and uninstall Bonjour. With the fresh install of iTunes, everything came back and is should work. Hope it helps.

  • Ipod nano 5th gen not recognized by itunes

Having same issue as other post except that I'm on XP home instead of a Mac. Windows recognizes the Ipod but Itunes does not. I've tried a number of the tips I've read about in the support section, but no luck. 2nd Gen Nano and Shuffle work fine and are recognized by Itunes. I was able to charge the 5th gen Nano but it was never setup since it was not recognized.

Sorry about posting in Ipod discussion instead of Nano 5th gen discussion. I was probably half awake.
I spent a lot time messing around with my computer with no luck. Finally contacted an Apple expert and though the rep was not able to solve the issue with me, he pointed me in the right direction. My fix was actually quite simple:
I downloaded Itunes onto my wife's laptop and plugged in the Nano. The setup worked and Itunes recognized it. I was able to update the latest software for the device. I moved some music files over with the Homeshare feature just in case I would not be able to use my PC. Luckily when I plugged the Nano back into my PC, Itunes recognized it.
It was either the initial device setup or the update that I needed to resolve the issue on my PC. So try it on another computer if you similar issues before you waste a lot of time and effort.

  • IPod Nano (3rd gen) not recognized by iTunes

I've got a 933mhz iBook G4 running 10.5.1, I hooked up my brand new iPod Nano, iTunes recognized it, I was halfway through the syncing process when I decided to stop it during the photo sync. Now the iPod keeps shutting down right after it tries to sync then starts back up again. It's not recognized by this computer at all. I tried to hook it up to my G5 iMac, and no go there. Ideas anyone?

  • Ipod nano 7th gen not recognized by iTunes. Windows

My ipod was working fine until a couple months ago. Now whenever I hook up the ipod to the computer I get an error message saying an ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. I've tried restarting the computer, deinstalling & reinstalling new iTunes, but to no avail. Help!

In same boat. Mine wont even charge. Now fully dead. I have a number of different USB sources. Ipod doesn't recognize it is plug in.
Ever since I got ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.
But trying to solve my problem Found most people solved there issue with holding on/off and sleep buttons at same time for few seconds to reboot. Didn't work for me.
    Might for you.

  • Ipod nano 7th gen not recognized by itunes

    how is this fixed

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62 and Windows 8.1.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • Ipod nano (1st gen) not charging/not showing up on computer or itunes

I recieved a 2GB ipod nano (1st gen) as a gift back in December 2005. It's worked fine until recently. Yesterday, I tried to charge my ipod. However, when I connected my ipod to my power adapter to charge it nothing happened. The charging symbol didn't even show on the screen. So then I tried plugging it in to my laptop computer. Same result: nothing happened and worse still, it didn't even show up on My Computer or in iTunes. I then tried connecting it to our regular computer. Same result as the laptop and still no charging icon. I tried my 2nd generation nano thinking that maybe something was wrong with the USB cable or with the power adapter but it worked fine with everything. I also tried another cable. But still nothing worked. I've tried the 5 R's thing but it didn't work. I even tried leaving my ipod alone for awhile to no result. Finally I tried putting it into Disk Mode and that's where it is now. I've tried to run through the steps again with this but it didn't work. So now it's in Disk Mode and it needs to be charged but I don't know how to do it. I'm starting to think that I just need to get the battery replaced. Unless someone else has a fix that will work?? Please help!!

It sounds like the port or cable is having a problem. First try a different cable.
If the cable doesn't fix things then try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit) then see if the iPod will show up.

  • IPod Nano 1st Gen not connecting to my computer

My friend's iPod Nano 1st Gen won't connect to my computer (i have previsily added songs to it since last month) and now my iTunes won't show that ipod on my devices lists (I did NOT update iTunes because of the problems other people were getting)..... it will charge on my computer but WON'T sync....... WHATS UP WITH THAT???
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO THOSE THAT HELP.

Could be any number of reasons.  One of them just may be your refusal to update iTunes.  Just because others are having issues does not mean you'll have them!

  • Ipod nano 1st gen not syncing

My ipod nano 1st gen is not syncing properly. When I plug it in and itunes starts up, it begins the syncing process, but gets stuck midway through. I have it set to only sync checked songs and a specific playlist. Also, it still has enough memory. Cannot get it to sync and stays busy so long i cannot eject because computer is busy syncing! I've also tried to reset and restore, but it wouldn't restore because it was busy syncing!! Help please!

I have the same problem. I have an Ipod Nano 1st generation that won't sync also. I tried downgrading Itunes version and that didn't work. I installed the latest Itunes and firmware but I'm still having the problem.
The only solution I have found is to reset the ipod, then do a restore in itunes then run the sync. It works then once and you will need to do it again everytime you sync otherwise it won't sync. It is rather disapointing considering that the Ipod is supposed to be a premium product.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen not recognized in iTunes, read below...

So I plug my iPod touch 4th gen into my Windows 8 laptop and I get the little Windows 8 has recognized that a USB device has been plugged in jingle.  But the iPod does not charge, is not recognized by iTunes, and is not recognized by File Explorer.  So all I really get is the jingle.  How do I fix this?  I just downloaded the latest iTunes (11.1.1).  Thanks for your help!

I was having the same problem,  finally figured it out.  I am a W8 user.  Went to control panel, device  manager, and expanded portable devices. I happened to have my iPhone  plugged in to a USB port, and it showed up.  Clicked on the iPhone,  clicked on the driver tab, and updated the driver.  Now it connects to  iTunes.

So  apparently the driver in my iPhone 4 was the problem.  The TS1538  article did not address this issue.  I still think it has something to  do with the iTunes 11.1.1.11 update, because my phone and my wife's  iPhone 4s worked before the update and didn't after the update.  My  guess is this is the problem many are having right now.
