IPod Nano (1st gen) not working... seems to be dead...HELP!

Havent used my iPod in awhile. Went to plug it into computer to charge and got a screen that flashed the apple logo a few times and then went to a screen with a charging symbol but not the normal one (had gray plain background and lack symbol). Computer does not reconize iPod. I tried many of the things apple suggests but it has not worked.

Have you tried Resetting your iPod (hold down the menu and center keys for 6 seconds) while it is connected to power? You may have to try several times.

  • Ipod Nano 1st gen not working

    Hello all
I have a Ipod nano 1st gen 2gb. I can restore it, reset it with menu select key, but everytime it starts it loads to the lanuage screen and i can not click to get further into the ipod, it use to work before i upgraded the firmware to the new 1.3.1. is there away to downgrade back to like 1.1.9. I am running vista 64 bit so i cant run the 32bit restore program to try that. If there is anythign anyone can think of that will be great. Yes i have reset it via the menu key and select key like 1000 times...

I downgraded the nano from 1.3.1 to 1.1.1 then down to 1.0 and then back to 1.3.1 and still the same thing, no select function upon the Language Screen. Anyone have anything else i can try?

  • Ipod nano 1st gen not syncing

My ipod nano 1st gen is not syncing properly. When I plug it in and itunes starts up, it begins the syncing process, but gets stuck midway through. I have it set to only sync checked songs and a specific playlist. Also, it still has enough memory. Cannot get it to sync and stays busy so long i cannot eject because computer is busy syncing! I've also tried to reset and restore, but it wouldn't restore because it was busy syncing!! Help please!

I have the same problem. I have an Ipod Nano 1st generation that won't sync also. I tried downgrading Itunes version and that didn't work. I installed the latest Itunes and firmware but I'm still having the problem.
The only solution I have found is to reset the ipod, then do a restore in itunes then run the sync. It works then once and you will need to do it again everytime you sync otherwise it won't sync. It is rather disapointing considering that the Ipod is supposed to be a premium product.

  • Ipod nano (1st gen) not charging/not showing up on computer or itunes

I recieved a 2GB ipod nano (1st gen) as a gift back in December 2005. It's worked fine until recently. Yesterday, I tried to charge my ipod. However, when I connected my ipod to my power adapter to charge it nothing happened. The charging symbol didn't even show on the screen. So then I tried plugging it in to my laptop computer. Same result: nothing happened and worse still, it didn't even show up on My Computer or in iTunes. I then tried connecting it to our regular computer. Same result as the laptop and still no charging icon. I tried my 2nd generation nano thinking that maybe something was wrong with the USB cable or with the power adapter but it worked fine with everything. I also tried another cable. But still nothing worked. I've tried the 5 R's thing but it didn't work. I even tried leaving my ipod alone for awhile to no result. Finally I tried putting it into Disk Mode and that's where it is now. I've tried to run through the steps again with this but it didn't work. So now it's in Disk Mode and it needs to be charged but I don't know how to do it. I'm starting to think that I just need to get the battery replaced. Unless someone else has a fix that will work?? Please help!!

It sounds like the port or cable is having a problem. First try a different cable.
If the cable doesn't fix things then try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit) then see if the iPod will show up.

  • IPod Nano 1st Gen not connecting to my computer

My friend's iPod Nano 1st Gen won't connect to my computer (i have previsily added songs to it since last month) and now my iTunes won't show that ipod on my devices lists (I did NOT update iTunes because of the problems other people were getting)..... it will charge on my computer but WON'T sync....... WHATS UP WITH THAT???
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO THOSE THAT HELP.

Could be any number of reasons.  One of them just may be your refusal to update iTunes.  Just because others are having issues does not mean you'll have them!

  • Ipod shufffle 1st gen not working

    Hi...
I have a 1st gen Ipod shuffle.I was listening to music and it suddenly stopped working. It won't turn on (lights do not blink) and when connected to the PC the light doesn't even blink. What do I do?
    Pls help

If the lights (front and back) do not come ON when you connect it to power, it is likely to be a hardware problem.
If the shuffle ran out of power when you were listening to it (and that's why it "suddenly stopped working"), and now will not charge when connected, it could be a problem on the shuffle's built-in USB plug.  It tends to become worn out (or damaged) over time.  It's probably the most common failure point for the original white plastic shuffles.
If you recall that the battery had a good charge when it stopped working, then the problem could be on the shuffle's logic board.
You should rule out a problem with the USB port on the computer.  If you are using a USB hub, try a direct connection on the computer's port, with other USB devices disconnected (you can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected).  If you don't see the shuffle's light come ON, try something else on the same USB port (preferably something similar like a USB flash drive or port-powered external drive) to confirm the port is working properly.  If you have a USB power adapter, you can also try connecting the shuffle to it.
If you can rule out a problem with the USB port, and the shuffle's light does not come ON when connected, it is likely to be a hardware problem on the shuffle.

  • TS1538 Does Ipod Nano (3rd gen) not work with Windows 8?

I have tried all of the uninstall and reinstalls, upgrades, reset of ipod nano, etc.... Cannot get computer or itunes to recognize ipod nano.  Does this device work with Windows 8?

  • Ipod nano 1st gen. not connecting to computer

My ipod connects to the computer because my computer makes a sound when I plug it in. But everytime I do, the computer tells me to connect it to a high speed usb port. Apparently I have 10 "high speed" ports I wasn't aware of. I have tried changing ports to every one on my PC and none of them work. Everything else I connect to a usb works fine, so is there suddenly a problem with my ipod? The fact that I can't put anything new on my ipod is driving me nuts. I've tried everything to fix this problem, both with the ipod and with the computer. NOTHING works. Help would be appreciated.
    Owen

I'm having the same issue and have just posted a question before reading yours. I know what your going through and am just as frustrated. I have built my own computer so I'm not computer illiterate by any means, but you'd think so by the fact I cant get a little storage device to work at all. I did hear that the newer version of itunes is not supporting old nano's, anyone??

Hi I was just wondering, if my iPod nano's serial number says that it is eligible, but its screen is not working, am I still eligibile for the iPod nano 1st gen replacement?

Yes. They'll still replace your iPod. Several users have indicated that they have returned damaged iPods and were still given a replacement iPod.

  • Restored Ipod Nano 1st gen. and nike + icons do not appear in itunes 7.0.2

I have a ipod nano 1st gen. I recently purchased the nike+ reciever and shoes and they worked great. I had not problems installing the latest version of ipod software version 1.3.
On my latest run I got soaked and the nike+ receiver stopped working after the rain. Waited a day until it dried out and reconnected it to my ipod and it did not recognized the receiver.
I reset my ipod and it still did not recognized the receiver.
I restored my ipod and it ereased the nike+ icons from my ipod and itunes. I updated my windows software and reinstalled itunes 7.0.2 in my computer and still the nike+ icons do not appear in my itunes and the updates indicate that I have the lastest version of the itunes and ipod software.
What else can I do to reinstall the nike+ software in my ipod and itunes?

  • Ipod nano 1st & 2nd not recognised on PowerBook

    hello
i'm sure something like this post is here somewhere. but there are just too many to read through.
    here is my dilemma.
i have just bought an ipod nano 1st gen & a 2nd gen. both work fine on my work computer (brand new MacBook). but when i plug them into my personal PowerBook G4, they are not recognised. my PB is running osx 10.4 and my itunes is up-to-date (exactly the same version as my MB.
i have tried both USB ports and nothing. it looks like its charging, but thats it. the screen with "do not disconnect" does not appear.
    any ideas anyone?
i even tried them both on an old ibook - they work just fine.
    cheers

    hello
i have tried restarting - no luck. i have tried different cable - no luck.
i plugged in a high-speed thumb drive, this worked. i opened system profiler and my usb saw that it was a high speed device.
my computer seems to be refusing to see ipods as an attached device, whilst other computers have no problems.
why is it refusing too see ipods????? i'm at a loss.

  • Apple may charge $100+ just to look at iPod Nano (1st gen)?

I got the iPod Nano 1st gen replacement program email. My nano hasn't been working for quite some time, even when I plug it in to my computer so I figured this would be a great deal. I typed in the serial # online and Apple emailed me saying "Our initial diagnosis indicates that because your product replacement will likely be covered by the warranty, an AppleCare Protection Plan, or another Apple repair or exchange program, there should be no charge to you for the service performed. If we have questions or concerns regarding the repair coverage, we will notify you"
After reading further into the email, it says that Apple might charge a diagnostic fee of $100 if the problem isn't battery related (*** kind of rip off is that?!). I'm pretty sure the battery is gone, but I don't know if I am willing to gamble $100 on it. I payed $200 for it in spring/summer 06 so it fits the Replacement Program criteria. Do they just expect people to be cool with the fact that they could be charged a bill for it? I know thewarranty is long gone but ****...makes me more skeptical about buying anything from Apple again. Should I send it in or just throw it away?

    see my thread about this..
called the 800# about the same issue you have.
    see below:
    ***UPDATE****
    Spoke to APPLE SUPPORT
They said that they are asking for these nanos as part of a replacement program.
They assured me that the fee does NOT apply
    Replacements may be refurbished models
Look for APPLE to provide updated customer communication
